How do I figure out if proposing a bot is feasible?

edit

Hi, everyone, and hope you're well. I was looking through my old edits and thought, "Why isn't there a bot that auto-adds Template:Tref to the end of talk page sections that are missing one and contain <ref> tags, the way SineBot detects unsigned comments and signs them?" Rotideypoc41352 (talk · contribs) 10:53, 28 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

See Template_talk:Reflist-talk#Bot_proposal and the subsequent section "Explanatory note". It might also be worth pinging @GreenC: who ran the bot back in 2019. Martin of Sheffield (talk) 12:19, 28 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It last ran March 2022 see User:GreenC_bot/Job_8 .. each time it runs there are fewer hits. I'll probably run it again soon. -- GreenC 14:35, 28 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! I guess people have been better at adding Tref to talk pages? Anyway, I figured someone else had already thought of the idea—just didn't know who—and now I do! Thanks again, Rotideypoc41352 (talk · contribs) 16:15, 28 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@GreenC: thanks for clearing the runs up, I was just going by the talk page. Regards, Martin of Sheffield (talk) 17:00, 28 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Redirect

How to remove a redirect to a page? Shahin007h (talk) 13:14, 28 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Shahin007h: Hi there! Please see Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 13:59, 28 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Shahin007h: GoingBatty's instructions are for when you want to delete a redirect (make it a redlink). If you would like to overwrite a redirect, for example to turn it into another article or turn it into a stand-alone page, that can technically be done by anyone, see Help:Redirect#Creating and editing redirects, to wit "To edit a page that is already a redirect (or to view its history, talk page, etc.), follow the redirect to the target page, then click on the link in the "(Redirected from ...)" notice at the top of the page. This takes you to the redirect page itself. (The URL for accessing a redirect page without following the redirect contains the query parameter redirect=no.) Another way to get to a redirect page is to go to the target page, and click "What links here" (in the toolbox on the left of the page). This will show you all the backlinks to that page, including redirects. Clicking on a redirect in this list will take you to the redirect page, not the target." --Jayron32 15:10, 28 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
