editHas the search bar become smaller?
editThe search bar in the top right-hand corner seems to have reduced in size, along with text in the search bar and search suggestions (FYI I'm using the Vector legacy (2010) skin). JACKINTHEBOX • TALK 05:28, 28 June 2023 (UTC)
- Indeed it has. JACKINTHEBOX • TALK 12:48, 9 July 2023 (UTC)
Cruciform churches in Norway Cruciform churches
editI live next to a cruciform church, Haslum church, with roots back to the 12th century. Today it is stands as a typical cruciform church, but it is not mentioned in the list under the above category. How do I add (f possible) the building to the list? Norwayuser49 (talk) 13:56, 28 June 2023 (UTC)
- @Norwayuser49, since there's no article about it here on English Wikipedia, there's nothing to add the category to. Only actual existing pages can be placed in categories. 199.208.172.35 (talk) 14:03, 28 June 2023 (UTC)
I recently posted a question about how to correct a list of cruciform churches in Norway, while looking at the list in English. Haslum church does not appear on that list, but as I changed languages to Norwegian, Lo and behold! There it was. How come...? Can I add to an English language list without affecting its Norwegian (supposed) twin? Norwayuser49 (talk) 14:06, 28 June 2023 (UTC)
- @Norwayuser49, Norwegian Wikipedia is a separate project from English Wikipedia. I'm not surprised to hear that an article exists there, but you can't add a Norwegian Wikipedia article to an English Wikipedia category. If the Norwegian article is well sourced, perhaps you could take a stab at translating it? See Help:Translation for instructions. 199.208.172.35 (talk) 14:08, 28 June 2023 (UTC)
- Michael D. Turnbull, the problem was here. Should be fixed. 199.208.172.35 (talk) 14:17, 28 June 2023 (UTC)
- Yes, thanks. The OP's edit seems briefly to have added the Help Desk to the "Churches in Norway" category! Mike Turnbull (talk) 14:18, 28 June 2023 (UTC)
- Behold the Church of Wikipedia. Donations welcome. 199.208.172.35 (talk) 14:22, 28 June 2023 (UTC)

- @Norwayuser49 The Haslum church is briefly mentioned (and is a redlink) on the English article Churches in Norway. Provided you have reliable sources, you could add some information on it there and make an interlanguage link with {{ill}}. That would be easier than trying to create a full article solely about that church. However, please do not attempt to add it to our category pages unless it has an article of its own. editAfter one discussion is closed, how much time one has to wait before nominating that article for deletion again? zoglophie 15:06, 28 June 2023 (UTC)

Proposed change to results of Template:Expand language
editHi there. I would like to use Template:Edit template-protected to request a change to Template:Expand language, so that it produces the wording "You can help expand this article with text…" rather than the current wording "This article may be expanded with text…" This change has been discussed and has a positive consensus on the template’s talk page, but none of us knows how to do it. Can somebody clarify whether this could be done once with effect for all languages, or must every single language template (for example: Template:Expand German) be changed? Thanks. Masato.harada (talk) 16:03, 28 June 2023 (UTC)
- No, Template:Expand German uses Template:Expand language, and I presume all the rest do too, so you only need to change that one.
- Just put a request on Template talk:Expand language, using {{Edit template-protected}}. ColinFine (talk) 16:14, 28 June 2023 (UTC)
editing citation - unknown error?
editI've edited a citation on the Rocky Valley page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rocky_Valley - but now it says there is an empty tag. I am not sure how to correct this - what should I do? Thanks for any help! Helenhc (talk) 18:19, 28 June 2023 (UTC)
- Fixed with this edit. Cheers! DonIago (talk) 18:26, 28 June 2023 (UTC)

Is there a way to get my page out of limbo?
editI made https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Table_of_plants_used_as_herbs_or_spices , and it was, in a *much* earlier form, rejected as a fork of https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_culinary_herbs_and_spices . As such, the title of my article (which, honestly, has a slightly different focus than the list of culinary herbs and spices--both because it includes non-culinary herbs, and because it's focused rather more on the plants than on the products of said plants) was turned into a redirect to the original culinary herbs page.
It was suggested, at the time of the early rejection, that I could build it up to a proper article, then move it back to mainspace. But even though my article is now much longer and more comprehensive (including having virtually all of the things on the original page, *and* a few culinary herbs not on the original page, as well as a healthy chunk of non-culinary herbs), I still can't move it back to mainspace with its current title (which is, honestly, the best title I can think of to describe the contents of the article), because that redirect is still in place.
As per the discussion on the culinary herbs page, my article doesn't really fit the focus or intent of said page, so the suggestion I repeatedly got to "improve the existing article"... doesn't really work. But the "new article" help desk kind of said "This isn't really what we do."
So, can someone with the appropriate authority or whatever remove the old redirect so my page can go live? Tamtrible (talk) 21:45, 28 June 2023 (UTC)
- @Tamtrible: I've performed the move – no reason things here can't play out in mainspace. Skarmory (talk • contribs) 22:47, 28 June 2023 (UTC)
- @Tamtrible Wouldn't the article be better if called plants used as herbs or spices as with plants used as musical instruments? Someone looking for the new article would be unlikely to type "Table of...." into the search box. Mike Turnbull (talk) 13:22, 29 June 2023 (UTC)
- @Michael D. Turnbull: I see it has already been moved, but looking at the content, this should clearly be moved to "list of..." That it is physically represented as a table does not mean this is "really" a list article. Don't worry about people typing "list of" or "table of", it's going to turn up in the search in any event. Maury Markowitz (talk) 14:20, 29 June 2023 (UTC)
- @Maury Markowitz I agree with you that it's a list-type article but the OP seemed to want to distinguish it from list of culinary herbs and spices and my comment related to my view that Table of... was a bad idea. Maybe list of plants used as herbs or spices would be a better title but that's probably a discussion for a different venue. Mike Turnbull (talk) 15:16, 29 June 2023 (UTC)
- 'ma copy this discussion into the talk page of said article. Valid discussion, that's probably the best place for it. Tamtrible (talk) 02:56, 2 July 2023 (UTC)
