SOMEONE ELSE KEEPS EDITING MY PAGE
editHello
"Please someone from wikipedia contact me Joanelle Romero asap as someone keeps editing my page and it is defamatory, libelous information." If this does not stop I will have to turn this over to our attorneys.
With Respect Joanelle Romero 2603:8000:2400:652C:45AE:826B:F8A1:95F5 (talk) 04:23, 15 March 2023 (UTC)
- I removed some apparent original research related to Romero's ancestry, and the article could use some attention from experienced editors, especially ones familiar with our guidelines/policies/essays on ethnicity and Native American tribal membership. Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 04:36, 15 March 2023 (UTC)
- If Joanelle Romero is about you, you should be familiar with WP:OWN and Wikipedia:An article about yourself isn't necessarily a good thing. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 06:13, 15 March 2023 (UTC)
- Hi IP 2603:8000:2400:652C:45AE:826B:F8A1:95F5. You might also want to log in to your other account instead of using an IP address for the reasons explained in WP:LOGGEDOUT. You should also be careful about posting personal identifying information on Wikipedia as explained in WP:REALWORLD and WP:PRIVACY. Content posted on Wikipedia pages is visible to anyone who wants to see it and has the means to access the page. If you feel you've posted something too personal that you would like to have removed, please look at WP:OVERSIGHT. Just for reference, other Wikipedia users aren't going to contact you by phone and may only use email for really sensitive matters; so, posting such information is not really going help resolve anything since all exchanges with others are going to take place on Wikipedia. -- Marchjuly (talk) 06:36, 15 March 2023 (UTC)

- 2603:8000:2400:652C:45AE:826B:F8A1:95F5, it appears to me from the Article's 'View history' page that you have been adding material, and experienced Wikipedia editors have been removing it because it is not acceptably cited to verifiable, published Reliable sources, as Wikipedia requires. This is not "defamatory."
- Please understand that the article is not "your page." It is Wikipedia's article about you. You need to read and understand WP:Own. {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} 5.64.160.67 (talk) 07:42, 15 March 2023 (UTC)

template request
edithi
my draft is declined
Name: Template:Shopping malls in Cagayan Valley
112.209.16.36 (talk) 11:35, 15 March 2023 (UTC)
- Yes, it is declined. The reviewer has placed a reason on the draft template's page, with a suggestion on how to make it fit for publication. You might like to read WP:NOTDIRECTORY, which is what your draft template seems to be. Bazza (talk) 11:52, 15 March 2023 (UTC)
Detail
editGood afternoon. I know this is a detail, but I have read several times, for example, "X (died 1500)"; wouldn't "X (died in 1500)" be more correct? JackkBrown (talk) 14:19, 15 March 2023 (UTC)
- I would use either "X (died 1500)" or "X died in 1500". The former is a note using the common abbreviated form, the latter is continuous prose. All IMHO of course. Martin of Sheffield (talk) 14:30, 15 March 2023 (UTC)
- @JackkBrown, check out Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Biography (and perhaps also Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Dates and numbers). 199.208.172.35 (talk) 14:33, 15 March 2023 (UTC)
- @Martin of Sheffield: how can I find all my corrections on "died 1500", and "died in 1500"? I have always corrected with the latter. I absolutely don't want to make mistakes in my corrections. Is there a filter that lets me find my corrections on this? JackkBrown (talk) 14:37, 15 March 2023 (UTC)
- Not sure. I had a look at your list of contributions: Special:Contributions/JackkBrown. Unfortunately you don't seem to include edit summaries, so I've no idea how you can retrospectively look. To be honest, it's not a major issue and I'd suggest just to be careful going forward. If someone else notices and objects, then let them sort it out. Martin of Sheffield (talk) 16:16, 15 March 2023 (UTC)
- @JackkBrown: And please remember to use edit summaries. Some WP edit interfaces can be set to remind you. (I used to forget sometimes, and use this all the time now.) Bazza (talk) 16:39, 15 March 2023 (UTC)

Asking for review of the Translated page of an existing Wiki page
editI have been trying to translate in English the Marcelle Pardé page which was originally created in French (I am one of the primary contributors to that specific page). The system did not allow me to publish my translation because of my Wiki status and I could only save that draft under my personal Wiki account. How do I submit it for review so it can be published and tweaked using Wiki source code? I could not see that "ask for review" option nor could I see how to togle the translation page from text to Wiki code (in insert footnotes for example). Denis Couillard (talk) 14:20, 15 March 2023 (UTC)
- Denis Couillard I've added the information to allow you to submit it. It's provided automatically if you create a draft via WP:AFC. 331dot (talk) 14:23, 15 March 2023 (UTC)
- @Denis Couillard At present, you don't seem to have copied over the sources, since you have got dummy references like [1] within the text. For the English Wikipedia we prefer inline citations using <ref> tags: see WP:REFB. Please provide these before you submit the draft for review. Mike Turnbull (talk) 14:32, 15 March 2023 (UTC)
- I've taken the liberty of moving the raw references across for you and fixing one that would have caused an issue. Hope this helps. Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 15:07, 15 March 2023 (UTC)
May is Better Speech and Hearing Month
editHi. Would you please add Better Speech and Hearing month to the month of May. I am a SLP and this is a big month for us. I would like to increase the awareness of what we do in schools, hospitals, nursing homes, in homes, and rehab centers. Thank you. 64.83.145.218 (talk) 15:49, 15 March 2023 (UTC)
- Could you be more specific of which article you are referencing? Wikipedia is not for promotional purposes such as increasing awareness, even of good causes. 331dot (talk) 15:51, 15 March 2023 (UTC)
- It is already listed at May#Month-long_observances. —TheDJ (talk • contribs) 15:54, 15 March 2023 (UTC)
Roy MacGregor-Hastie
editI wish to suggest edits nd additions to your article on Roy MacGregor-Hastie. Can I send these as an attachment, as everything is detailed on this list? 2A00:23C6:BA88:9201:BC9F:FAFB:7A87:DE16 (talk) 16:54, 15 March 2023 (UTC)
- IP editor, you should copy your suggestions into a post at Talk:Roy MacGregor-Hastie. 199.208.172.35 (talk) 17:07, 15 March 2023 (UTC)
- Some editors are scared off by large lists of suggestions. I suggest first posting the most important suggestion, and then continue posting suggestions until your list is exhausted. You might enjoy using the Wikipedia:Edit Request Wizard to submit your requests. Hope this helps! GoingBatty (talk) 18:09, 15 March 2023 (UTC)

Citoid issue
editCitoid is not producing a citation for this article, even if you try to use the DOI. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 17:16, 15 March 2023 (UTC)
- It works for me. In VisualEditor, click "Cite", "Automatic", and enter 10.1130/B31119.1 in the field. In the source editor, click "Cite", "Templates", "cite journal" and enter 10.1130/B31119.1 in the DOI field. PrimeHunter (talk) 19:26, 15 March 2023 (UTC)
New Ownership of Business
editHi Wikipedia Help Desk, the owners have changed at : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Bicycle_Hotel_%26_Casino/ business was acquired by new owners in 2022. Since then, the name + logo have changed as well. How can we edit this on the page? Or should we simply start a new page for the new entity? Sandeekim (talk) 19:23, 15 March 2023 (UTC)
- Courtesy link: The Bicycle Hotel & Casino [your coding didn't quite work, it's easiest to just copy and past the title from the article page].
- It would not be a good idea to have two separate articles for the same establishment. One course of action would be to WP:Move the article to the new name (you can't edit page names in the same way as other text), leaving a WP:Redirect under the old name (because many people will search for that): if done properly, this will preserve the history of the original article, which is required.
- I see the logo is uploaded to en.Wikipedia directly under the Non-free use rationale – you can upload the new logo in the same way and replace the old one with the new.
- I assume you have no personal connection to the business. If you do, you need to look at WP:Paid and WP:COI, and comply with those policies as necessary (this is mandatory). Hope this helps. {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} 5.64.160.67 (talk) 19:54, 15 March 2023 (UTC)
- @Sandeekim: If you are associated with the business (and I assume you are due to your use of the pronoun "we"), then you should refrain from making edits to the article yourself. Propose them on the talk page instead. You can upload a new logo and add it, change spelling, and other minor things, but if you want anything more substantive than that, you should propose it on the talk page. You can preface your proposal with the tag {{request edit}} to indicate your conflict of interest and cause your proposal to be listed on a category page that is monitored by some editors. ~Anachronist (talk) 20:04, 15 March 2023 (UTC)

I just reverted three instances of vandalism to International Standard Serial Number, one of which was from 2021. Should this page be protected? 76.14.122.5 (talk) 20:34, 15 March 2023 (UTC)
- Three instances of vandalism spread out over two years is not enough to justify protection. That would prevent good faith IP editors like you from editing the article. Cullen328 (talk) 21:41, 15 March 2023 (UTC)
Steve Larder
editHi . I was editing the statistics on this page , and when it was first edited ,it had edited successfully ( and the statistics are still present when you go to the editing page ), but for some reason the statistics for this rugby league player now don’t appear now on his Wikipedia page , with some kind of ‘ cite ‘ message . How do I get the statistics ,which are under his playing career , to appear on his page Thank you Larder7 (talk) 21:32, 15 March 2023 (UTC)
- @Larder7: I think I fixed it with this edit. You had closed a template with } instead of }}. Better now? Deor (talk) 22:26, 15 March 2023 (UTC)
Password Issues
editGood evening, please I have forgotten my Wikipedia password,Have been trying to log in but I can't, I don't know if you can help me with it. 102.88.34.57 (talk) 21:32, 15 March 2023 (UTC)
- Hello. If you provided an email address linked to your account, then your password can be reset. If you did not provide an email address, then it is not possible to recover control of that account. You can register a new account instead. Cullen328 (talk) 21:47, 15 March 2023 (UTC)
- It's not impossible if you found a browser on which you were currently logged in, but otherwise you will have to create a new account if you don't have an email address for resetting the password.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 07:58, 16 March 2023 (UTC)
Doubt
editGood evening. How can I tell if the person who wrote the paragraph in the article meant "Astana Arena opened in 2009" or "Astana Arena, opened in 2009"? The problem is as follows: the person who wrote the article may have forgotten to add the comma. Without the comma, the sentence "Astana Arena opened in 2009" needs the MOS:CAPTIONS, while with the comma it does not need the MOS:CAPTIONS. How can I understand this? I hope I have explained correctly. The fraae in reference is "Astana Arena opened in 2009". https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Astana#/editor/18. JackkBrown (talk) 22:06, 15 March 2023 (UTC)
- JackkBrown, probably the best way to find out what somebody meant when they wrote something is to identify the edit in which that "something" was added, identify the editor, and ask the editor on the editor's talk page. Just as you cannot read other editors' minds, other people here at the "help desk" also cannot read other editors' minds. -- Hoary (talk) 23:34, 15 March 2023 (UTC)
- Another approach is to say that it doesn't matter what another editor meant: you have as much right as that other editor to decide what the paragraph says. If you think it isn't clear, reword it. If you are not sure what it is saying, look at the source and see what it says (and if one is not cited, find one and cite it), and reword accordingly. ColinFine (talk) 09:03, 16 March 2023 (UTC)
- @JackkBrown: Looking at the article in question, Astana#Sport, the caption is for a photograph of the Astana Arena. "Astana Arena" will suffice on its own, because it describes what the picture is. It is my preferred caption for this picture as any subsidiary information, such as its opening date, should be in the article text. It might have the date the picture was taken added, as has been done for the "Barys Arena in 2015" picture below it.
- Adding an extra snippet of information, as in "Astana Arena, opened in 2009", is fine with a comma: the additional text simply describes a property of the subject, although it would be better in the article text as stated above.
- I'd consider "Astana Arena opened in 2009.", without a comma but with a full-stop, to be inaccurate, because it's not a picture of the arena being opened in 2009. Bazza (talk) 09:46, 16 March 2023 (UTC)
- @Bazza 7: yes, I had already corrected the caption yesterday; I did the same reasoning. Thank you very much anyway! JackkBrown (talk) 11:58, 16 March 2023 (UTC)
