Our nonprofit humbly requests your support

edit

"Wikipedia is yours. Please don't skip this 1-minute read. We're sorry to interrupt, but our fundraiser won’t last long. This Thursday, 14 September, our nonprofit humbly requests your support. Wikipedia was one of the first spaces online where you could learn for free, without ads. Just 2% of our readers donate, so whatever amount you can contribute helps, whether it’s ₹ 25 or ₹ 1,000. — The Wikimedia Foundation, host of Wikipedia and its sister sites."

why we are receiving this message when we are using Wikipedia 43.254.111.18 (talk) 07:04, 14 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

wikipedia subsists on donations. there is absolutely no need to donate if you don't want to. ltbdl (talk) 07:07, 14 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
If you register an account, you can disable fundraising appeals as I have done. If you are prosperous, you can donate whatever you wish. If you need to be careful about your spending, please be aware that the Wikimedia Foundation has annual revenue in excess of US $155 million, current assets of about US $240 million, and an endowment of over US $100 million. They do not need money donations from poor people. Time donations by volunteer editors working to improve the encyclopedia are vastly more useful than small financial donations. Admin Help

edit

I'm attempting to get the 'Durham Museum Heritage Center' article altered, as the current name has been changed to just 'durham museum', however it seems that it requires administrative access. Any help is appreciated. 46.208.35.136 (talk) 10:08, 14 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Changing the title of an article requires a page move(which does not necessarily require admin status, though it can depending on the situation). If you think that the name you want to change it to is the most common name for the topic(we don't necessarily use official or legal names) and that the change will be uncontroversial, you may request a move at Requested moves. 331dot (talk) 10:11, 14 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Durham Museum and Heritage Centre can't move to Durham Museum because that name is used for a museum in Omaha, Nebraska. The English museum could move to Durham Museum, Durham via a requested move. If there is no primary topic, the American museum could be moved to Durham Museum, Omaha, Nebraska and a disambiguation page created at Durham Museum. TSventon (talk) 10:42, 14 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
And that's only if "Durham Museum" is the most common name for the Durham-located museum. 331dot (talk) 10:49, 14 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Far, far, far, more important than the name of the article is the fact that at present it does not have a single source that meets the requirements in golden rule (most are not independent, and the ones that might be aren't about the museum), and therefore it does not show that the museum meets Wikipedia's criteria for notability. I presume that it is notable, but this needs to be shown by independent sources, and indeed the article needs to be based on those independent sources. I have tagged it accordingly. How to delete a file?

edit

I uploaded a new image for the title of the page Spy × Family (season 2), and the old image is unnecessary/redundant. How can I delete the old image? - Theodorethebear (talk) 11:56, 14 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Theodorethebear WP:NONFREE images that are not used in an article will be deleted automatically by bot, so you don't need to do anything. Mike Turnbull (talk) 13:00, 14 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Michael D. Turnbull Thank you. Theodorethebear (talk) 15:33, 14 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Reliable sources

edit

I found this reliable source with traces to an unreliable source.[1] Should we really avoid these reliable sources citing unreliable sources? 99.209.40.250 (talk) 13:12, 14 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I don't understand what you mean by "with traces to an unreliable source". The definition of a reliable source includes "a reputation for fact-checking and accuracy". ColinFine (talk) 15:44, 14 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@ColinFine: I think the IP means that the Collider article is sourcing their information from the "Midgard Times". Is "Midgard Times" a reliable source? Or is the "Midgard Times" info OK because Collider is a reliable source and Collider is in effect vouching for the "Midgard Times"? GoingBatty (talk) 00:36, 15 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Midguard Times is an unreliable source. It has been deemed unreliable since long ago. 2607:FEA8:761F:4600:243B:DC94:EF2E:74F1 (talk) 19:52, 24 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Pages using infobox Christian denomination with unknown parameters

edit

Can Category:Pages using infobox Christian denomination with unknown parameters be moved to Category:Pages using infobox religion with unknown parameters? Whatever code is generating this category also needs to be changed to use "Category:Pages using infobox religion with unknown parameters". This is because the name of the infobox was changed. Kk.urban (talk) 17:32, 14 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

It comes from {{Infobox_religion}}. Hopefully someone more experienced with template editing can fix it. RudolfRed (talk) 17:54, 14 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I have changed the name in {{Infobox religion}} [1] and nominated Category:Pages using infobox Christian denomination with unknown parameters for speedy deletion. PrimeHunter (talk) 19:56, 14 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
