What's noun itself
editwhat is noun itself 105.113.67.149 (talk) 00:52, 13 September 2023 (UTC)
- If you're asking for help using Wikipedia, you'll have to rephrase; and if you aren't, you're at the wrong place. -- Hoary (talk) 01:09, 13 September 2023 (UTC)
- You can always read Noun. Cullen328 (talk) 01:13, 13 September 2023 (UTC)
This recently added file:
should be a bit larger - if that's possible please. Thanks 115.70.23.77 (talk) 02:11, 13 September 2023 (UTC)
- You can make the thumbnail bigger by changing the value in
|upright=0.7
to a larger number, or by removing the parameter altogether. GoingBatty (talk) 03:37, 13 September 2023 (UTC) - I've used the default values for upright on that and the following image. Bazza (talk) 09:17, 13 September 2023 (UTC)
False Wikipedia entry
editThis entire entry is a lie

saving pages
editHi.
I love Wikipedia; I make a small monthly donation, despite being broke, because I believe in the principles of Wikipedia & because I use it on a regular basis, often several times a day. It’s my ‘go to’ resource for info on the various topics I’m interested in.
But there is one aspect I find extremely frustrating: saving articles & then accessing them later.
I mostly use the Wikipedia app on my phone (Android…relevant?) & can save articles but only seem to be able to access them again if I’m at the “Featured article” page where there’s a ‘Saved’ button at the bottom left. If I’m anywhere but there, either a saved page or at a new article, the ‘Saved’ button says ‘Save’ instead (either dark grey if the page is already saved or white if not) & there doesn’t seem to be any way to access my saved articles. I can’t see any way to have my ‘Saved’ list open at the same time as other tabs (which would be really handy!!) or even to go to my list without closing all open tabs AND closing & reopening the whole app, which then reopens at the “Featured article” page. There are many times when I want to be able to easily switch between tabs e.g. a new, unsaved, & a saved article, so the way it seems to be at the moment almost (but not quite) makes the ‘Save’ function useless.
Also, there doesn’t seem to be any way at all to save pages if using a browser apart from bookmarking as with any other page.
So, my questions are:
• Is there a way to easily switch between saved/unsaved (or saved/another saved) articles? Maybe a guide somewhere to using the Save/Saved functions in the app? (Is anyone working on development of this function?...I’d happily do it if I had the skills…actually, what skills would I need?).
• Is there a save function when accessing Wikipedia in a browser & if so, where is it?
Thanks Jeffkes Jeffkes (talk) 10:28, 13 September 2023 (UTC)
- @Jeffkes You would probably find it helpful to read User:Cullen328/Smartphone editing. I expect Cullen328 himself will be able to answer the specifics. Mike Turnbull (talk) 10:54, 13 September 2023 (UTC)
- I don't share that expectation. Cullen has previously stated that he edits from a mobile device in desktop view. I'm not aware of any highly active editors who use the dedicated app. User:Jeffkes, the best place to find an answer to your questions might be mw:Talk:Wikimedia Apps, or one of the other contact methods listed at mw:Wikimedia Apps/Team/Android#Contact us. Folly Mox (talk) 13:25, 13 September 2023 (UTC)
- To answer your last question: no, there is no "saved article" function in the browser version. There is a watchlist, and you are welcome to curate your own list of wikilinks on your user page (or a subpage); but there is no automatic function, and the list in the app is not accessible from the browser version. This is real
editThis information is real i asked him in real lofe in the brazilian bible on page 1534 sentence 32 it says that birth dates should be born in the 1800s on the transfer market. please leave a response if you want more questioans and please dont edit it away. - Tiss 185.186.44.104 (talk) 11:46, 13 September 2023 (UTC)
- This appears to be about your edit to Ederson (footballer, born 1993), which has been reverted. I find it difficult to believe that a living person could have been born in 1853. There are lots of Edersons, so you are probably confused, or your friend is: one of your edit summaries was "this is what my friend told me" and that's the sort of comment that will inevitably lead to a block. using image
editmay i use an image of the city of cortland on my facebook group header? Ann14850 (talk) 13:51, 13 September 2023 (UTC)
- @Ann14850, many images used on Wikipedia can be reused with proper attribution, though not all. Is there a specific image you want to use? Can you link to it or otherwise point us to it? Its file description page should have its licensing status. 199.208.172.35 (talk) 14:03, 13 September 2023 (UTC)
- would i post to give credit for the photo?
- ILoveCortlandNewYork, CC BY-SA 4.0 <https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0>, via Wikimedia Commons Ann14850 (talk) 17:00, 13 September 2023 (UTC)
- @Ann14850, the requirements seem to be creator name + link to file page, license name + link to license, and a statement along the lines of "No changes were made" (assuming you make no changes). So if you just include all the information in your post above, adding "No changes were made", you're good to go. 199.208.172.35 (talk) 17:50, 13 September 2023 (UTC)
- (edit conflict) Are you referring to Cortland, New York or Cortland, Ohio or some other Cortland? The images in the articles I've linked are reusable as long as you properly attribute the source. For the details of the CC-by-SA licence, see the file pages (accessible by clicking on the images). Deor (talk) 14:13, 13 September 2023 (UTC)
- @Ann14850: When you use any image from Commons, you are trusting that the uploader was following the rules. The uploader in this case asserts that they are the copyright owner and that they are releasing this image under a CC-BY-SA license. Nobody has contested this. However, this particular .jpg file has embedded metadata, and the metadata asserts that the copyright is (c) 2016 Kristian S. Reynolds, with no mention of a CC-BY-SA license. if user ILoveCortlandNewYork is in fact Kristian S. Reynolds, then all is good. If not, then Reynolds may decide to tell us to take the image down. If you are truly paranoid, You can probably contact Reynolds: according to the metadata the contact email is info@KristianReynolds.com (and you can thank him for the work). You can dig out other contact info from the metadata. -Arch dude (talk) 20:58, 13 September 2023 (UTC)
Giving Correction to a protected page
editI just wanted to point out to the admins of Michael Jackson’s page, his age at time of death is incorrect. 2009-1958= 55 not 50 Trivia Font (talk) 15:27, 13 September 2023 (UTC)
- @Trivia Font, 2009-1958 = 51 (leaving aside exact months for now). You can make an edit request at Talk:Michael Jackson if you would like to see something changed in the article (be sure to provide a source). 199.208.172.35 (talk) 15:32, 13 September 2023 (UTC)
- Trivia Font I assume you are referring to Michael Jackson the singer(there are many other Michael Jacksons with articles). Articles do not have assigned monitors; volunteers choose what to look at. Your math is in error; 1958 to 2009 is indeed 50 years of age as stated in the article. 331dot (talk) 15:34, 13 September 2023 (UTC)
- You may like to know that the age at death given in the infobox on that page is calculated directly from the birth/death dates, using {{death date and age|2009|6|25|1958|8|29}}. Provided the dates are correct, the age will be correctly calculated, thus avoiding a possible source of human error. -- Verbarson talkedits 15:15, 14 September 2023 (UTC)
Two different dates on the same source?
editHowdy! I'm tryin' to fix up the sourcing on Newspaper endorsements in the 2008 United States presidential primaries, but when I pulled up the Waltham Daily News Tribune to fix the dead link that's in the article, I found that the current location of the news editorial in question and the archived version of the original page have two different dates on the byline (first link January 25, second link January 27). I dunno if this is within scope here at the Help Desk or if I should take it to a noticeboard of some kind, but I'd appreciate any input on what date would be the most accurate for citin' the article.
Thanks in advance! ~Judy (job requests) 17:40, 13 September 2023 (UTC)
- @Janitor Judy: Hi there! I suggest using January 26, the updated date of the current location version. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 18:16, 13 September 2023 (UTC)
- @GoingBatty Sounds reasonable, I think I might use that as a rule of thumb unless things get really weird. Thank you! ~Judy (job requests) 19:29, 13 September 2023 (UTC)
Sandra Bullock filmography
editRecords are missing a film that S Bullock appeared in in 2004
A Fool and His Money 2001:56A:7245:A000:1982:14BE:F5E9:D7C4 (talk) 22:03, 13 September 2023 (UTC)
- If you have suggestions to improve Sandra_Bullock_filmography you can start a discussion on that article's talk page, including reliable sources for the information. There is already listed the 1989 film A_Fool_and_His_Money_(1989_film), if that's what you are thinking of. RudolfRed (talk) 22:11, 13 September 2023 (UTC)
Space at the start of a line
editWhy does starting a paragraph with a space cause the formatting to be stripped off and the text to be put in a box? There seems to be no situation in which this is desirable and it is a very easy typo. What is the intended use of this function? Furius (talk) 23:21, 13 September 2023 (UTC)
