Harmon Killebrew (June 29, 1936 – May 17, 2011) was an American professional baseball first baseman, third baseman, and left fielder. During his 22-year career in Major League Baseball, primarily with the Minnesota Twins, Killebrew was a prolific power hitter who, at the time of his retirement, had the fourth most home runs in major league history. Second only to Babe Ruth in home runs in the American League, he was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1984. He led the American League six times in home runs and three times in runs batted in (RBIs), and was named to thirteen All-Star teams. His finest season was 1969, when he hit 49 home runs and recorded 140 RBIs. Known for his quick hands and exceptional upper body strength, Killebrew hit the longest measured home runs at Minnesota's Metropolitan Stadium, 520 ft (158 m), and Baltimore's Memorial Stadium, 471 ft (144 m). Daft Punk

French electronic music duo Daft Punk have released four studio albums, two live albums, one compilation album, one soundtrack album, three remix albums, two video albums, twenty-two singles and nineteen music videos. Group members Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo met in 1987 while studying at the Lycée Carnot secondary school. They subsequently recorded several demo tracks together, forming Daft Punk in 1993. After signing to Virgin Records, the duo released their debut studio album Homework in January 1997. The album peaked at number three in France, earning a platinum certification from the Syndicat National de l'Édition Phonographique. Random Access Memories, Daft Punk's first studio album in eight years, was released in May 2013 and topped several charts worldwide. "Get Lucky", the first single from Random Access Memories, also experienced chart success in several countries. (Full list...)

Today's featured picture

The Church of St. Peter and St. Paul is a Catholic church located in the Antakalnis neighbourhood of Vilnius, Lithuania. Constructed between 1668 and 1701, it is the centerpiece of a former monastery complex of the Canons Regular of the Lateran. Its unique interior has masterful compositions of some two thousand stucco figures by Pietro Perti and ornamentation by Giovanni Maria Galli da Bibiena. The church is considered a masterpiece of Baroque architecture in the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth.

This picture shows the central nave of the church, looking north-eastwards towards the altar and the apse. The nave is dominated by plain white walls that contrast with opulent decorations elsewhere in the church. It is decorated with colorful depictions of the Stations of the Cross and evenly spaced sculptures of the Twelve Apostles, as well as having a number of torture scenes placed within niches featuring martyrs from the persecution of Christians in the Roman Empire. Portions of the transept can be seen to the left and the right of the photograph.
