Route 66 shields

Could you make a shield for Route 66 shown here? Also, please make the same shield but for US84 and US54. They are signed on Interstate 40 in the Santa Rosa, New Mexico area and once near Tucumcari and I would like to place these in the article's exit list. Gfoley4 (talk) 00:37, 31 May 2010 (UTC)

Are these in use anywhere on independent signs, or just on those big brown signs? —Fredddie 03:27, 31 May 2010 (UTC)
I'm not sure if they are used as shields on the highway itself but are sometimes used on the green guide signs in New Mexico. [1] [2] [3] Gfoley4 (talk) 17:06, 31 May 2010 (UTC)

Capitol Loop

Ok, I got confirmation today from MDOT that: ""per federal law copyrights can not be placed on sign designs therefore the sign is in public domain. Although [I am] correct that it [Capitol Loop marker] does not appear in the MUTCD it is still consider a route marker." Additionally, "we make it a policy not to give out vector art for the simple reason it can be altered and we don't want altered versions distributed or used." Well, that's fine and dandy, but I could photoshop the current PNG to alter it. They can't prohibit the creation of SVGs though since the design is now stated to be in the public domain. I'm going to need some help to create an SVG to replace File:CapitolLoop.png because of the complexity of the detail in the Capitol Dome. any thoughts? Imzadi 1979  21:26, 9 August 2010 (UTC)

Shields for 7 Puerto Rico roads

Hi, I need shields for these 7 Puerto Rico roads.

  • PR-139 (this is a secondary road intersecting primary PR-14, thus the "county-style" shield is needed)
  • PR-501 (this is a tertiary road intersecting secondary PR-123, thus the traditional black numbers on round or oval white background, on square black background, is needed)
  • PR-502 (this is a tertiary road intersecting secondary PR-132, thus the traditional black numbers on round or oval white background, on square black background, is needed)
  • PR-504 (this is a secondary road intersecting primary PR-10, thus the "county-style" shield is needed)
  • PR-511 (this is a secondary road intersecting primary PR-14, thus the "county-style" shield is needed)
  • PR-578 (this is a secondary road intersecting primary PR-1, thus the "county-style" shield is needed)
  • PR-591 (this is a tertiary road intersecting primary PR-2, thus the traditional black numbers on round or oval white background, on square black background, is needed)

Should any additional info be required, please let me know! Thanks. Mercy11 (talk) 15:50, 22 August 2010 (UTC)

Done. Due to glitches at Commons, they may not appear, but I assure you they have been created. –Fredddie 22:50, 22 August 2010 (UTC)
Freddie, although they ARE showing up in the respective infoboxes (for example PR-511 and PR-139), they are still NOT showing up whenever the jct template is used. For example see the entries for PR-511 and PR-139 in the infobox at PR-14. Thanks. Mercy11 (talk) 06:04, 24 August 2010 (UTC)
It could be related to the problems Commons was having. The problems are occuring when thumbnails were made for large files, not unlike what {{Jct}} does. I'll try purging the files, perhaps that will help. –Fredddie 22:00, 25 August 2010 (UTC)

New Louisiana shields

As seen in this picture, Louisiana has changed the color on their state route markers. Is it possible for the colors on our set of LA shields to be updated? Dough4872 18:13, 8 June 2010 (UTC)

I have been wondering about this too. What should we do about it? And why on earth would Louisiana change to begin with? Brandonrush Woo pig sooie 17:54, 5 July 2010 (UTC)
It is my understanding that the green ink used to produce the signs is expensive and fades faster than black ink. I also understand that unlike South Carolina or Oklahoma's recent design changes that Louisiana will replace the old green and whites with black and whites as the individual signs need replacement, to save money and because the basic design didn't change, just the colors. I don't see a rush to create a new full set of graphics, and we should probably wait until someone says that the black and white is more common than the green and white. P.S. My other half is from outside of Morgan City, LA, and his family still lives there. I'll have him periodically ask friends down there that if they start to notice that more of the new signs are in place over the old signs to let us know. Others can do the same, and then I'd say to switch the articles over. Imzadi 1979  18:40, 5 July 2010 (UTC)
If the green really does fade quickly, than there should be quick turnover to the black signs. Brandonrush Woo pig sooie 19:39, 5 July 2010 (UTC)
It fade faster than black, not quickly. That means the life span is reduced, but not cut short. It could be years before they change over the state. Imzadi 1979  20:08, 5 July 2010 (UTC)

Old New Jersey shields

Ugggh, what a horrible list, I would need to write a parser to figure out which files are still needed. So instead I decided write a paraser for TxDOT.
Some Farm to Market roads are missing from the completion list, when I get some free time I will try to add those in. Fredddie pointed out a font issue with my current bot, so I will need to do some additional testing before I run these.--Svgalbertian (talk) 07:52, 18 October 2010 (UTC)

Texas sign correction/request

Hey all, Am requesting an addendum be made for a Business Route sign in Texas. Business 101-B file:Texas Business 101.svg is a sign without the sublettering showing which business route it is, in this case, 101-B. Would like to request a Bus 101 route with the B underneath, similar to others. This does follow MUTCD, but I have no physical proof that the sign looks like this in real life (Google shows the way with the separate BUS sign above the regular state highway shield). Thanks. 25or6to4 (talk) 22:28, 24 October 2010 (UTC)

Texas Bus. signs, part 2

Thanks for the above request. I would like to request the rest of the uncompleted business shields, using the automated bot, but i do not understand what it wants for the 2 svg images. Would it be suitable to post the reqeust there and only put one image from the current business images so they can get completed? 25or6to4 (talk) 21:27, 25 October 2010 (UTC)

  • I assume you are referring to Wikipedia:WikiProject Texas State Highways/Completion list/Business Highways. Unfortunately the bot was only written to replace strings in one location, so each lettered route would have to be separate template. It also doesn't dynamically adjust font sizes, so 1-99 would be a different template than 100+. That means I would need 17 different templates to create 31 images. So at this point I am not interested, but that is not to say that I am not intrigued and I might re-write the bot in the future to accommodate this.--Svgalbertian (talk) 22:57, 26 October 2010 (UTC)
    • Yeah, that definitely doesn't sound feasible at this juncture. No problem. We'll just need to build more business routes in Texas. Go ahead and mark this declined and archive for now. 25or6to4 (talk) 23:55, 26 October 2010 (UTC)

More Texas

User:25or6to4 said he knew of more FM/RM routes not on the completion list. I guess I beat him to it. I added RM 2462 to the list although it is a former rather than existing route.

Also, FM 390 has a spur that needs a shield for the article's junction list. Although FM spurs are not designated separately from their parent routes, they are shielded differently. They use shields identical to state spur shields rather than FM shields but using the same number of the parent. Fortguy (talk) 00:17, 26 October 2010 (UTC)

Full suite of 1961 USH markers

Are there any objections to placing a request with Highway Route Marker Bot (talk · contribs) to make a full suite of US Highway markers in the 1961 style? I have created a template based off of File:US shield evolution.svg for this purpose. –Fredddie 04:56, 28 November 2010 (UTC)

I would support this. Are you planning on just doing 1 through 99, or do you intend on doing 3-digit routes too (which would probably require a copy of Series A to be dug up)? I suppose these shields would be useful in those states that still use '61 spec shields, like Arkansas, Mississippi (?) and Iowa (??). —Scott5114 [EXACT CHANGE ONLY] 06:27, 28 November 2010 (UTC)
If we somehow find a Series A fontface, I'm still waiting on a 1961-style US 309 marker for the NY USH list. – TMF 06:47, 28 November 2010 (UTC)
I was just planning on having it use Series B over 100, but Series A would probably be more period accurate. –Fredddie 23:18, 28 November 2010 (UTC)
I'll support this as well. Just skip US 102 in doing the 3dUSs. It was decommissioned in 1928. US 112 can be skipped as could US 131. (MSHD didn't use the 1961 specs and stuck with the 1948 specs until the early 1970s when they switched. US 131 didn't exist in IN during that time frame.) Imzadi 1979  23:49, 28 November 2010 (UTC)
I suppose the $1,000,000 question is how do we get a copy of Series A? –Fredddie 05:02, 29 November 2010 (UTC)

In running Highway Route Marker Bot (talk · contribs) I am not against using commercial fonts, I just want to make sure I am using them legally. I already paid $5.00 to use USHighwaysOldStyleBCBA. For this font $20.00 is not unreasonable and if someone gifts me the font I would use it.--Svgalbertian (talk) 19:18, 3 December 2010 (UTC)
My understanding of US copyright law is that the physical shapes of the letters in a typeface can't be copyright-protected. Font files for a computer are computer software, so they can carry a copyright. Having said that, and knowing that I'm not a laywer, once the letterforms are converted to a path, the job of the software is done, just as the job of a commercial image program is done once the image is created. I can't see that there would be any problem with using the series A typeface in this context. I can pitch in for the typeface. Anyone willing to chip in a few bucks as well? Imzadi 1979  00:08, 4 December 2010 (UTC)
$ I'll chip in only if I get a copy. :D –Fredddie 00:39, 4 December 2010 (UTC)
Imzadi1979 you are correct only the font file is copyrighted, the typeface is not. As for sharing the font, according to the website it allows 1-5 users, so think we could share with anyone who puts in $5.00 or more.--Svgalbertian (talk) 05:38, 4 December 2010 (UTC)

Having acquired the font, I made a request on Commons. I requested 1-999 just so we wouldn't have to go back and make some more later. If anyone feels that's too many, please go to Highway Route Marker Bot (talk · contribs)'s request page and correct it. –Fredddie 14:55, 8 December 2010 (UTC)

I'd like to see them added. ----DanTD (talk) 01:49, 2 May 2010 (UTC)

Dan, don't use Iowa shields in VA. Seriously, someone didn't use the right shield for VA-3000, using the name for a non-existent shield for Iowa. (Iowa's shields are technically different than other circles.) Using the {{jct}} with the type "sec" for secondaries and county#=<county name> in VA makes things simpler. Imzadi 1979  01:54, 2 May 2010 (UTC)
I didn't put the Iowa shields in. I think it just turned up that way when the anonymous IP who added them worked on the templates. And believe it or not, those junction templates already has "sec" for secondaries and the county names. ----DanTD (talk) 02:09, 2 May 2010 (UTC)

  Done

I changed how {{Jct}} handles VA sec markers. Jct will now look for the file 'Circle sign #.svg' first before it will look for an 'Iowa #.svg' marker. That being said, you may see some wide elliptical markers where there should be a circle. I am working on a plan to correct this.
I am creating a set of wide markers in the naming scheme 'Ellipse sign #.svg' These will take the place of most files currently under the name 'Circle sign #.svg' I will then create a set of circular markers, now somewhat residing at 'Iowa #.svg'. Confused? Here's a table:
Image Old name New name
Circle sign 700.svg Ellipse sign 700.svg
  Circle sign 700 (Virginia).svg Circle sign 700.svg
Any files that are leftover in the 'Iowa #.svg' naming convention that aren't in the Iowa spec will be purged from Commons. This will allow all of the VA sec markers to be under the 'Circle sign #.svg' convention.
I would appreciate some help in creating these new files. I'm making them when I have time and as such, I am only in the mid-400s of the Ellipse signs. I haven't started any of the 100-999 Circle signs. —Fredddie 04:06, 14 July 2010 (UTC)

I would type the list of routes needing shields, but there are quite a few and it would be quite a task. This would complete the shield needs for the State of Arkansas. Brandonrush Woo pig sooie 18:56, 6 December 2010 (UTC)

It can, but that request is made over on the HRMB page on Commons. Make sure that you provide a template and the full list so Svgalbertian can input them into the bot. See commons:User:Highway Route Marker Bot/Requests for more details. Imzadi 1979  19:56, 6 December 2010 (UTC)

In fact, Mississippi and New Jersey have been migrated over to the ellipse sign nomenclature. There are files from 1-999, so there shouldn't be any issues unless there are some special cases that I haven't seen. –Fredddie 21:17, 5 January 2011 (UTC)

Question regarding use of US 1948 shields

So we're slowly building a selection of 1948-style US Highway shields. Since the MUTCD of the period said to post white square "oversize" markers at intersections, would it be a good idea to create a set of white square USHs for {{Jct}}? The cutout shields would still be used for infoboxes. I would send this request to HRMB. –Fredddie 02:12, 23 December 2010 (UTC)

Probably should for legibility reasons if nothing else. Note that the 1948 oversize markers are identical to the 1961 markers other than having a white square in back instead of white. —Scott5114 [EXACT CHANGE ONLY] 10:20, 23 December 2010 (UTC)

Nebraska Loop, Spur, and Recreation road shields

Is it possible to get Highway Route Marker Bot to make shields for the Loop, Spur, and Recreation roads in Nebraska. The list of routes needing shields for each is at List of Nebraska Connecting Link, Spur, and Recreation Highways and the shield templates are as follows: File:N LINK Blank.svg for the link routes, File:N SPUR Blank.svg for the spur routes, and File:NF Blank.svg for the recreation roads. An example of how the numbers and letter suffixes appear on the shields is at File:N LINK 28B.svg. Dough4872 04:15, 17 November 2010 (UTC)

Blanks are not templates. Plus, the suffixes are a different size as the numbers, so I don't think the HRMB will be able to make them. –Fredddie 04:39, 17 November 2010 (UTC)
Fredddie is right, HRMB would not be able to handle those. I am looking to make modification to the bot that will allow mulitple replacements, but cannot commit to when I will do it.--Svgalbertian (talk) 21:24, 23 November 2010 (UTC)

Texas State Highway 550 toll...

Hey. I thought I had requested this earlier, but can't find a listing, or a shield. The new toll section of TX 550 has recently opened, and I am requesting an updated sign for it. The shield is actually the inverse of the TX toll sign colors: white lettering on blue background. There's a picture of an example on the Texas State Highway 255 page. I can also confirm that the state toll signs that I have experienced (Loop 1, TX 45, TX 130, TX 255, TX 550). Loop 49, on the other hand, uses the proper blue text on white background. Would like the blue background sign, but will also accept a proper standards TX Toll route sign for 550. 25or6to4 (talk) 01:31, 13 March 2011 (UTC)

I know its Canada but...

Any one care to create a template for the bot to whip up some PEI route markers? suffixed route, non suffixed, more --Admrboltz (talk) 00:29, 20 December 2010 (UTC)

Part of the problem with Canadian route markers is that they can still carry crown copyright. But after looking at the current shield, if you ask 10 people to draw a bushy tree most would draw something extremely similar, so I am willing to go out on a limb and say the design falls below the threshold of originality. You can find a vector version of the sign on page 73 of the Drivers's Handbook that could be extracted (the black border should be green, but the rest looks right). My next project is is Saskatchewan (see dicussion), but once that is done I can take on PEI.--Svgalbertian (talk) 21:50, 22 December 2010 (UTC)
I am working with the Communications coordinator to see if its covered or not. Apparently the stupid trees are part of the PEI word mark. A SVG template for the three NB versions would be nice, as the ones we have are png. --Admrboltz (talk) 21:55, 22 December 2010 (UTC)
The trees in the wordmark are far more detailed than the ones in the road signs. I am willing to go ahead and tag it {{pd-ineligible}}, but if you do get premission be sure to log it with ORTS. As for NB, I won't take them at this time, but might in the future.--Svgalbertian (talk) 22:23, 22 December 2010 (UTC)
Thats what I was thinking too, but the sign shop people said it would be under Wordmark and Coat of Arms protection, and have sent me up the ladder. And OK, the NB ones should be good, they are just a shape and font. --Admrboltz (talk) 22:32, 22 December 2010 (UTC)
The basic design of the trees comes from the coat of arms, and since those were granted in in 1905 they are no longer covered by any copyright. Additionally, while the coat of arms have may have additional protection from the Coat of Arms Act, Wikimedia Commons is only concerned with copyright. But to be safe they can also be tagged {{insignia}} to warn of other protections. At this point I am still willing to go ahead at make these signs.--Svgalbertian (talk) 23:00, 22 December 2010 (UTC)
Sweet :) once the template is created, I will fill in the HWMB request. --Admrboltz (talk) 23:02, 22 December 2010 (UTC)
Great. I can't wait to see all the Canadian Route Shields here. I've made my share of route dab pages, and too many Canadian ones don't have shields. It's sad. ----DanTD (talk) 03:48, 6 January 2011 (UTC)

Here you go.   Sorry for the delay, I was away from my computer on the holidays. The trees in the drivers handbook were different than seen on the sign, so I had to draw them by hand based on signs on Flickr. I might still tweek it in the next couple days, so feel free to let me know your thoughts. Don't worry about the HWMB request as that is my bot, and as soon as I finish making the actual template I will create the signs. Cheers. --Svgalbertian (talk) 00:11, 7 January 2011 (UTC)

Bike route shields

Is it possible to have bike route markers for 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 to the same specs as File:DE Bike 1.svg for List of bicycle routes in North Carolina? Dough4872 04:42, 2 February 2011 (UTC)

Can I also have two more for List of New York State Bicycle Routes, 9 and 17? Dough4872 17:16, 2 February 2011 (UTC)
While we're at it, I'd like to add a request a New York Bicycle Route 25. ----DanTD (talk) 17:38, 2 February 2011 (UTC)
And as I posted here, that list is missing about a dozen routes. – TMF 17:50, 2 February 2011 (UTC)
I didn't see that. I apologize. ----DanTD (talk) 18:02, 2 February 2011 (UTC)

OK, why are we using markers named "DE Bike foo" for other states? Clearly that's a naming convention problem. – TMF 17:50, 2 February 2011 (UTC)

Two other concerns: File:US Bike 13 Alternate.svg and File:DE Bike 1.svg are using identical styles (which will eventually lead to two redundant sets of markers over two NCs), and both are using a stretched-out version of the bicycle icon. Compare the bike on those to the bike on File:US Bike blank.svg. – TMF 17:58, 2 February 2011 (UTC)
I think you just answered your own question; Some bike route shields from other states and those in Delaware are identical to each other. ----DanTD (talk) 18:02, 2 February 2011 (UTC)
If so, then DE should be using a national set. Having two sets of identical shields is silly. – TMF 18:04, 2 February 2011 (UTC)
And a further comment to underscore why we shouldn't be using DE Bike foo as the naming convention: that design is a national design; specifically MUTCD sign M1-8. – TMF 18:04, 2 February 2011 (UTC)
Sounds like a rename request, and have the HWMB create say 1-99 of the M1-8 signs? --AdmrBoltz 18:06, 2 February 2011 (UTC)
Sounds good to me. The bike needs to be fixed before the marker is sent to HRMB, though. – TMF 18:08, 2 February 2011 (UTC)
I agree we need a national set of shields based off File:US Bike 13 Alternate.svg along with a template for HRMB to make them. Dough4872 20:05, 2 February 2011 (UTC)

Since no one else has suggested new names for the markers, I'll present a proposal: rename the M1-8-style markers (like File:DE Bike 1.svg) to "US Bike # M1-8.svg" and the black-on-white (MUTCD M1-9, like File:US Bike blank.svg) to "US Bike # M1-9.svg". – TMF 21:51, 2 February 2011 (UTC)

As a disclaimer, the M1-8 shields are technically not for U.S. numbered bike routes, they are meant to be used for generic numbered bike routes. So, "US Bike x" is probably fine for the M1-9 U.S. numbered bike routes whereas something like "Bike x M1-8" could be used for the M1-8 generic bike routes. Dough4872 22:31, 2 February 2011 (UTC)
I see your point, but that name seems a bit ambiguous to me. – TMF 22:41, 2 February 2011 (UTC)
How about Oval Bike Route x.svg and US Bike Route x.svg? --AdmrBoltz 23:14, 2 February 2011 (UTC)
That really doesn't do anything to resolve my ambiguity concern re the M1-8 signs. – TMF 23:47, 2 February 2011 (UTC)
I like your original idea, but the "M1-8" and "M1-9" sections should be in parentheses. ----DanTD (talk) 23:22, 2 February 2011 (UTC)
Agreed. –Fredddie 23:29, 2 February 2011 (UTC)
If that's what most people want, I'm OK with that. Personally, I'm indifferent as to whether or not parentheses are used. – TMF 23:47, 2 February 2011 (UTC)
For reference, the MUTCD refers to the white and green oval marker as "the Bicycle Route (M1-8) sign" whereas the white and black acorn-looking marker is referred to as "The U.S. Bicycle Route (M1-9) sign". Perhaps a naming convention such as "bike route xx US.svg" and "U.S. Bicycle Route xx.svg", respectively, would be slightly more clear? The layman editor won't make any distinction based on MUTCD sign codes. -- LJ  08:14, 3 February 2011 (UTC)
Another comment: The U.S. Bicycle Route sign is fairly new, and is a program where route numbers are approved by AASHTO similar to the U.S numbered highways. To the best of my knowledge, there are few (if any) bicycle routes that have been officially approved such that many of these images would need creation at this point. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ljthefro (talkcontribs)
Now that I could get behind. My biggest problem with the conventions proposed above was that they didn't clarify what country the M1-8 signs belonged to. I'd probably drop the dots in U.S. in the second NC though since we don't use them in any of the other marker NCs. – TMF 17:53, 3 February 2011 (UTC)

Renames have been requested to US Bike NN (M1-8).svg and US Bike NN (M1-9).svg. --AdmrBoltz 00:15, 6 February 2011 (UTC)

I'm all for renaming them, but you tagged File:DE Bike 1.svg to be renamed " "File:US Bike 1 (M1-8).svg." ---DanTD (talk) 06:28, 6 February 2011 (UTC)
That is the M1-8 style, Dan. Imzadi 1979  07:33, 6 February 2011 (UTC)
I know, but he previously tagged this as "File:US Bike 13 (M1-8).svg," along with another one that was Bike Route 13. ----DanTD (talk) 13:29, 6 February 2011 (UTC)
Thank you Dan, I was copy and pasting. --AdmrBoltz 15:37, 6 February 2011 (UTC)

The shields have now been renamed. The next step is to now set up a template for HRMB to make the M1-8 shields. Dough4872 17:24, 7 February 2011 (UTC)

Wait, so the naming convention is the same for both except for using the sign designator codes? What happened to using "US Bicycle Route XX" (full with capitalization) as a convention for the designated U.S. bicycle routes? This would help with ambiguity between the two, as the layman won't know the difference based on sign codes. -- LJ  19:49, 7 February 2011 (UTC)
Someone still needs to redraw the M1-8 shields using a non-stretched bike icon first. – TMF 21:35, 7 February 2011 (UTC)
Since no one else has done so, I've made the template (and fixed the bike icon) myself. See US Bike template (M1-8).svg. – TMF 00:52, 9 February 2011 (UTC)

Historic MN shields

I need a sample/template for the bot to create a set of 1920 and 1934 route markers for Minnesota. The two are identical save for the color, the 1920 is gold and the 1934 is white.

This is an example of an actual 1920 marker. (Another here.) Another is on the legend of this map and there's a good artist's representation on the back of this one.

I did make a few PNGs in the 1934 style but they're not particularly good and I'm pretty sure they're not shaped right.

Historic Arkansas shields

Hey, could someone please make a template for the original Arkansas shields? They looked like this (also here) starting with the establishment of a state highway system in 1926. Brandonrush Woo pig sooie 01:13, 10 March 2011 (UTC)

It's another case of not having a copy of the block font. I think there are enough of the old-style shields around where I, or someone else, could create a file with all the characters available. I'll work on organizing the block letters and reply here. –Fredddie 01:59, 10 March 2011 (UTC)
Doing... I have a working alphabet and a set of the wider numbers. If skinnier numbers are needed, I can use the font that's available. Now the issue is creating the cutout. There's a way to do it so it's not a lot of work, but I have yet to find it. If you have a cutout shape that you'd like me to use, please share it! –Fredddie 01:50, 16 March 2011 (UTC)
Does the cutout need to be svg format?? Brandonrush Woo pig sooie 02:10, 16 March 2011 (UTC)
Not necessarily because shapes can be traced. However, to make the final product look good, the image should be fairly large. Making a large image smaller looks better than making a small image larger. –Fredddie 11:58, 16 March 2011 (UTC)
This or this is the best I cound find for the "STATE ROAD" shields. For the later "ARKANSAS" ones, this if the overlap can be removed or this one if not are the best I can find. Is that appropriate size? Brandonrush Woo pig sooie 19:40, 16 March 2011 (UTC)

Ohio State Route shields

There is probably a good reason why it's not there, so here are a few questions for you. Where is/was 4S? What time period? Cutout or square? Block or rounded font? Can you prove it is/was there? –Fredddie 03:05, 9 May 2011 (UTC)
Ohio State Route 4s is located in Dayton, Ohio. I do not know when it was put in but, it still exist today. The shield should be square and have rounded font. The only prove I have of it existing is this list of SR 4s junctions from ODOT (Ohio Department of Transportation):[10].   Not done I am going to pass. Checking Street View, it's clear that SR 4S is signed simply as SR 4. However, SR 4B, in Butler County, is signed as SR 4 Bypass, so it simply needs a banner. –Fredddie 20:21, 9 May 2011 (UTC)

Is there any chance of making a SR 4B shield? Route11 (talk) 21:06, 9 May 2011 (UTC)
No. If you read what I typed, all we need is a bypass banner. We have templates and infoboxes which handle this for us. –Fredddie 02:11, 10 May 2011 (UTC)

1926 PA 81 shield?

May I please have File:PA-81 (1926).svg to the same specs as the other 1926 PA shields? Dough4872 02:17, 30 May 2011 (UTC)

1926 U.S. shields for Minnesota

File:US 10N (MN).svg and File:US 10S (MN).svg need to be replaced with the 1926-style shield. Both of these routes were removed in 1934, so the existing images are incorrect.

I would also like to request an example of a 1926 U.S. shield for Minnesota for the bot to use as a sample to create the state's full set. I'm not familiar with that process or what it entails though. --Sable232 (talk) 20:52, 15 December 2010 (UTC)

The current scheme of things isn't to replace shields made in the current, 1971 specs directly with previous versions. We have started to set up types of US 1926, US 1948 and US 1961 in both the infobox and {{jct}}. Combine that with the creation of older spec state markers, and an article can have the right vintage markers for the end year of an old highway. (As an example, look at U.S. Route 112. Even the Michigan state trunklines have cutout versions of the diamonds. Imzadi 1979  23:43, 15 December 2010 (UTC)
I know, but considering that these existing ones aren't used and never will be since AASHTO doesn't do letter suffixes anymore, I figured it'd be more prudent to just overwrite them. --Sable232 (talk) 00:45, 16 December 2010 (UTC)
I know what you mean. US 102 hasn't existed since 1928, yet we have 1961 and 1971 spec versions of it. I think the full sets are being made more for consistency (everything is there in case we want it later). Imzadi 1979  01:26, 16 December 2010 (UTC)

Do you want the suffix to be off-center like this photograph of a 10N shield shows, or were you wanting something more conventional? —Scott5114 [EXACT CHANGE ONLY] 08:33, 16 December 2010 (UTC)

If possible, yes, I think it should be as the actual shield is. Besides, 10S would probably look too much like like 105 if the letter was the same size. --Sable232 (talk) 03:15, 17 December 2010 (UTC)
Well, it's not the size I'm asking about so much as the off-centered-ness. —Scott5114 [EXACT CHANGE ONLY] 15:10, 21 December 2010 (UTC)
Yes, keep it off-center if it's feasible. --Sable232 (talk) 03:23, 24 December 2010 (UTC)

I would still like these... I'm going to start working on a 1920s route list soon and I expect to need them. --Sable232 (talk) 19:44, 6 February 2011 (UTC)

Polk County and other Florida CR shields

More shields are needed for the List of county roads in Polk County, Florida, two of which would also turn up on U.S. Route 17 in Florida if they're added(Thanks for settling the issues of the description in Eagle Lake, Florida, Freddie). Also, there's one missing for Lake County Road 46, which is a county extension of Florida State Road 46. 1926 shields for US 66

I'd like to request shields like the one in Commons for Arizona (sorry, I tried linking it, but I'm not sure how to shrink it. It's at http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:US_66_Arizona_1926.svg), but for the other seven states (Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, and California). Also, where can I get the 1926 fonts? PaulGS (talk) 19:41, 15 May 2012 (UTC)

You link it this way: [[:File:US 66 Arizona 1926.svg]] (File:US 66 Arizona 1926.svg). Making the 1926 versions are not easy, but I'll see what I can do. Also, there is no "1926 font" as far as fonts are concerned. I have cobbled together something that is useable, but it's hardly convenient. –Fredddie 23:55, 15 May 2012 (UTC)
These were the easy ones. –Fredddie 02:35, 16 May 2012 (UTC)

I am not sure what to do about California since the period signage usually contained an Automobile Club of Southern California logo. Should it be included? Reduced to a symbolic rendering, like just a blue ring? Ignored? —Scott5114 [EXACT CHANGE ONLY] 14:30, 16 May 2012 (UTC)
Since we'd need a FUR every time we used a California shield, I would forget it. Maybe include a note in the image description that it should be there but it's a non-free image. –Fredddie 17:39, 16 May 2012 (UTC)
What about the thought of rendering where the logo is supposed to be as a blue ring (no AUTO. CLUB SO. CAL., no pine tree)? Or would we prefer to just leave it off entirely? —Scott5114 [EXACT CHANGE ONLY] 18:09, 16 May 2012 (UTC)
I guess we could do that, but it should be a black ring and a bell. My personal first choice would be to leave it off entirely, though. –Fredddie 18:37, 16 May 2012 (UTC)
Done  Scott5114 [EXACT CHANGE ONLY] 04:37, 18 May 2012 (UTC)
Thanks for these. Are we sure we can't use the logo, though? Anything created before 1923 is public domain, so the older logo may be old enough to be usable. PaulGS (talk) 20:42, 22 May 2012 (UTC)
We could, but without knowing the exact date the logo was created, it's not a good idea. –Fredddie 22:35, 22 May 2012 (UTC)

Texas State Highway Spur 1966

Spur 1966 needs a shield. This proposed route is expected to be constructed within the next two and a half years, and now has an article. This will be the only state highway spur with a 4-digit number. Fortguy (talk) 22:55, 15 May 2012 (UTC)

Interstate shields

At Commons:Category:Interstate_Highway_shields_with_name_of_state, I-55, I-94, and I-290 are missing for Illinois; I'd like to request these.

I'd also like to request some historical shields for use at Interstate#Interstate_shield. The article mentions four revisions to the design - 1957, 1861, 1971, and 1978 - I'd like to add a diagram of each to show the changes (if the 1978 design is still used, obviously, we have that). PaulGS (talk) 22:06, 6 June 2012 (UTC)

Were you thinking something along the lines of Media:US shield evolution.svg? I think that would be useful in the article. Also, I fixed the interwiki link to Commons. –Fredddie 04:56, 7 June 2012 (UTC)
Yes, although I was thinking individual shields so they'd be available elsewhere, too, if ever needed (or as templates for others). But combining them also works, and that wouldn't be hard to put together. PaulGS (talk) 01:26, 8 June 2012 (UTC)
The others will have to correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure we have everything we need. It's just not nearly as obvious as it is with the USH shields. The MUTCDs themselves are a bit foggy as the depictions from 1971 edition look just like the 1961 edition. But there is a standard drawing from the 1979 edition; I have not ever seen a standard drawing from the 1957, 1961, or 1971 edition. –Fredddie 02:59, 8 June 2012 (UTC)

New England Thruway shield

Despite my failed efforts to get a shield for the Long Mountain Parkway, I was advised to request a shield for the New England Thruway for historic purposes, despite the fact that the article is tagged to be merged into Interstate 95 in New York. ----DanTD (talk) 23:49, 12 March 2011 (UTC)

These are both made. I am new to this project, so I do not know why they were not done before; they are both incredibly simple, they only took 5 minutes each to make. As I don't know their copyright status, please advise on that before I upload them, or should they be e-mailed while you research that?    → Michael J    05:04, 27 August 2012 (UTC)
Okay, I can't wait to see them. I'm afraid I don't know the copyright status myself, but there is a list on this somewhere. ----DanTD 05:16, 27 August 2012 (UTC)

Great Lakes Circle Tours

Ok, I've confirmed that the markers are PD. Can someone help me get them converted to SVGs and rendered in MTUCD green? Once created, can they be uploaded directly to Commons?

Thanks in advance. Imzadi 1979  02:07, 20 August 2011 (UTC)

We'll also need MUTCD brown versions of the LSCT and LMCT markers as well. Imzadi 1979  23:37, 21 August 2011 (UTC)

Sorry I didn't see this sooner, but I just got here. I am working on these. It is a shame that the rings on each sign are angled so differently. They are not even smooth curves. But I will get them done.    → Michael J    03:38, 25 August 2012 (UTC)

OK, these are done. I also included the Seaway Trail, which is mentioned in the GLCT article in lieu of a tour around Lake Ontario. I do not have a Commons account, so what should be done with them. (I need some guidance in getting a Commons account.)    → Michael J    08:45, 25 August 2012 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Unified login should have some links to help you set up a Single, Unified Login (SUL) which would "port" your user name and password to other project pages. It will then also link your accounts on each server together, so that if you login on enwp, it will also log you in on Commons, etc. That's the best place I can think to start on your account issue.
If you're up for it, the Michigan Heritage Route markers are in GIF format here at the moment. There are three of them, but fortunately, the only difference between them is a colored bar with a word on the bottom. They are:
If those can be converted at some point, then Michigan's tourist routes will be covered. Thanks for your hard work so far! Imzadi 1979  15:53, 25 August 2012 (UTC)
The Circle Tour signs have been uploaded to Commons. There are 8 of them: the overall GLCT, 4 lake tours (plus 2 in brown), and the Seaway Trail. I would like someone to check the copyright notifications and modify them if needed, please. I don't want them deleted because I screwed up that information. Thank you.
I will see what I can do with the Michigan Heritage signs in a day or so. They all have the same image, making it easier. Anyone know what font that is?    → Michael J    19:08, 25 August 2012 (UTC)

Green-and-white Louisiana shields

I would like to request that a template be made for the generic CR jct shields (without the name or the word "County"), similar to File:MUTCD_M1-6_template_00.svg. I would like this in order to send a request for HRMB to make the remainder of the CR jct shields between 1-999. Dough4872 13:18, 18 August 2012 (UTC)

Why? Most of them already exist, and we've been making them as they show up in the Jct missing shield category. –Fredddie 13:52, 18 August 2012 (UTC)

I can do this. It seems fairly simple. Tell me, is this logo copyrighted? So I know whether to put it on WP for fair use, or free at Commons.    → Michael J    02:31, 6 September 2012 (UTC)
It's a fairly new logo, so I have a feeling it might be copyrighted. To be safe, the sign should be uploaded with a fair-use rationale. Dough4872 03:12, 6 September 2012 (UTC)

Alternate Pennsylvania Turnpike shield

Can I have a version of File:Pennsylvania Turnpike logo.svg that has black text on a white keystone, as it appears on BGSs? It would be useful for instances where the shield is placed onto a dark background, such as green. Dough4872 03:10, 12 October 2012 (UTC)

I can make it easily, but it does not need to be uploaded to Wikipedia or to Commons because neither uses it. If you want me to send it to you, go to my talk page and use the e-mail link.    → Michael J    18:11, 17 October 2012 (UTC)
I was intending on using it for a userbox on Wikipedia because it shows up better on a green background than a green shield. Dough4872 18:36, 17 October 2012 (UTC)
