- Speed bump: remember, all documents MUST BE SUBMITTED TO THE CHAPCOM FIRST before anything, even signing it and notarizing it. Check step 3 of the Step-by-step chapter creation guide. --Sky Harbor 05:45, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
- How long does the usual ChapCom review take? --Jojit (talk) 07:04, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
- I wouldn't know. But once it (AoI) is approved, we should immediately send it to the ChapCom. --Sky Harbor 07:14, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
- I think they also need the Bylaws together as well, based on my reading of the step-by-step process. --seav (talk) 07:41, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
- Take note: August 2 is UPCAT Day. --Sky Harbor 08:21, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
- After the AoI and ByLaws are approved and submitted, ChapCom must give us a target date for completing the review so that we can adjust our timeline accordingly. Perhaps we have to extend the corporation name registration as the need arises. --Jojit (talk) 11:05, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
- Just modified the timetable. I am hoping that incorporation would come before September. --Exec8 (talk) 23:03, 4 June 2008 (UTC)

Iloilo International Airport is up for FA!
Here's to the fourth fifth Philippine featured article bet: Iloilo International Airport. The nomination is available here. Comments, and your support especially, are most welcome. Thanks! --Sky Harbor 01:51, 3 June 2008 (UTC)
- Fourth? TheCoffee (talk) 06:34, 3 June 2008 (UTC)
- The LRT, the MRT, the history of the Philippines and this one. The other ones were not initiated by a Filipino Wikipedian or by someone actively involved here, so they don't count. --Sky Harbor 10:45, 3 June 2008 (UTC)
- ahm, what's the importance of third, fourth, fifth Philippine FAs? --Efe (talk) 10:50, 3 June 2008 (UTC)
- The remaining four FAs in our records were initiated by other WikiProjects (examples: Mount Pinatubo's FA nomination was initiated by WikiProject Mountains, while Durian had significant involvement in its FA nomination from Singaporean and Malaysian Wikipedians and is largely MY/SG/TH-centric). --Sky Harbor 11:13, 3 June 2008 (UTC)
- Philippine Idol was actually submitted for FA, too. Starczamora (talk) 14:09, 3 June 2008 (UTC)

Can anyone help me clean up this article? So much fancruft and stuff, you know... Blake Gripling (talk) 02:53, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

- Yeah, for sure. That guy thinks I'm assuming ownership of the Angel Locsin and Strawberry Shortcake articles, so he resorted to falsely warning me. I'm just doing my job, and he's the one who's messing things up. And you know what? He's Gerald Gonzalez, in the form of an anonymous user using a Globe Telecom IP, probably in an Internet cafe... Blake Gripling (talk) 04:18, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
- I'm currently editing the article. I like Toni Gonzaga (but not so much that I'd do fanboy-ish edits), and I feel guilty enough that I had neglected this article among others, so I'm continuing what I had neglected to do for some time :-P --- Tito Pao (talk) 04:36, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

New test Wikipedia
We now have a new test Wikipedia: the Tausug test. As I was browsing on Tawi-Tawi (and looking for a translation of "airport" into Tausug for Sanga-Sanga Airport), I saw that someone made a Tausug Wikipedia on Incubator. So, this means if you know any Tausug speakers, they now have a Wikipedia to call home.
And remember, POSS people, please add this to the list of Wikimedia projects hosted in Incubator. --Sky Harbor 00:15, 8 June 2008 (UTC)

4th PhilWiki Chat
Since its a long weekend (for some), its a great way to have 4-5 hours of your time on Saturday Sunday to chat. The agenda is the same and I might consider going to Cebu (awaiting approval of my leave) on June 23. I am satisfied that the WMPH discussions were gone onto high gear and I even went to City Hall just to get a Cedula for this. We will also need to discuss preparations for the ChapCom submission of AoI and By-laws on June 14 and possible meetup on June 21. We also need to encourage more members to participate in our future discussions here in Tambayan, PhilWiki Chat and PhilWiki Yahoo Groups. For those who haven't seen the By-Laws, visit this link. We appreciate your inputs by going to this link. For AoI, we need to get the CTCs of Jojit_fb, Scorpion_Prinz, Bentong_Isles, and TheCoffee, and nominate the members of the first board of trustees.

A little help...
There is someone (using the IP Address 59.154.26.124) has been repeatedly editing the Tanauan City article, changing the present Mayor to the ex - mayor and places the present mayor as a SK Chairman (see the article and the history), placing information without evidence. I know that the culprit is also from that town who is angry from the present administration. He has already given last warning and although he has given a warning he still continues to disrupt the encyclopedic article.
Note: I am also a co - contributor of the Tanauan City article and when I change the "wrong names" he / she edits it again, bringing back again the "wrong name".
I hope help will come and punish this culprit.

- To Joseff3506 a. k. a. "The General", please put new mesages at the bottom. Hopefully, I'm not the only one editing and/or using the Tambayan talk page at this time. I'm sure that they'll take care of it. Besides, I'm from CALABARZON too and I'll be there to defend your edits in the Tanauan City article from that anonymous IP. Help at the Tagalog Wikipedia
Everyone, I need your help at watching the recent changes at the Tagalog Wikipedia. Why do I need it? There has been hightened vandalism that started just yesterday, and I can be sure that I can not notice and revert all of them, and that they are all from the same user. Why can't I block him? He's operating in so many IP's (between 121.0.0.0 to 125.0.0.0). Why can't I do a range block? Since our most active anons who are not vandals, operate also at that range. The vandalism since yesterday has been perhaps the maniest I have seen, I hope he gets tired of it. -- Felipe Aira 08:56, 11 June 2008 (UTC)
- I reverted some of the offending edits and speedy tagged some of the vandal-created articles.--Lenticel (talk) 13:29, 11 June 2008 (UTC)
- This is the worst case of vandalism I've seen at Tl WP. -- Felipe Aira 14:24, 11 June 2008 (UTC)
Edit wars in TL is still going on. I'm quite surprise that he's very persistent, even if he knows that I am protecting and reverting. Every minute there's a new vandal case. A record for Tl. It's still good that he's not insulting anyone, unlike other vandals. Help needed! -- Felipe Aira 11:54, 12 June 2008 (UTC)
- This is an every year thing, actually. This occur around the first few months of the school year. --bluemask (talk) 08:49, 14 June 2008 (UTC)
Printing of Tambayan Promotional Collateral for POSS
As agreed in the last virtual meet-up, I invited Wpinas to partner in POSS. I met with Tin Mandigma and Richard Grimaldo last Wednesday. I asked them if we could singit our promotional collateral in their printing. They said ok. I'll send them the following by Monday, June 2:
http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image:Wikipedia_anzeige2ce.jpg (poster)
- it would be great if someone could create a Tambayan version of this... something like "alien, art, or lapu-lapu's bahag" or something like that...
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/foundation/e/ee/Presskit.pdf
- I made a draft of a Tambayan version of the presskit here: Wikipedia:Tambayan_Philippines/presskit. If one of us here has a talent in layout, it would be great if this could be laid-out similar to the Wikimedia presskit, with graphs, pictures, logos and all. Otherwise, I'll do a hack job with it and have it printed as well on June 2. --Nino Gonzales (talk) 06:10, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
- So what I understand here is that we need to create something like that PDF. Explaning that what Wikimedia is, and our purpose is to assist and promote Wikimedia here in the Philippines. If so I'll try to create one, and also the graphs, and also when I make it should I use the Wikimedia logo, the Wikimedia PH or Wikimedia Philippines? (refer to the above section). And also who's our staff? This is so I can put content at the staff portion of the document. -- Felipe Aira 07:16, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, something like that PDF, explaining what Tambayan and WMPH is. No need to make it exactly like the Wikimedia PDF in terms of structure (but perhaps the same in style). Just keep in mind the audience and the message. We will be distributing this to participants of POSS, the press and everyone we could give it to. We need to explain who we are, what we do, and how they could contribute to our goals (e.g., the improvement of Philippine articles, promotion of local language Wikipedias, the chartering of WMPH, etc). Please feel free to edit Wikipedia:Tambayan_Philippines/presskit. It is very very first draft... --Nino Gonzales (talk) 08:10, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
- We can assume that the reader has already read the Wikimedia press kit when we write the text. So no need to go into details about Wikimedia and Wikipedia... We will be distributing the Tambayan presskit with the Wikimedia press kit...--Nino Gonzales (talk) 09:14, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
- And should I indicate that we're a chapter or a proposed one or a community or both? -- Felipe Aira 09:15, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
- I would word it this way: Tambayan... is a community of Wikipedia editors... as of printing of this information sheet, the Philippine chapter of Wikimedia is being formalized. This includes SEC registration blah blah blah... One the logo, we could just put a there "the logo of the soon to be formed WMPH" or something like that... --Nino Gonzales (talk) 09:22, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
- And should I indicate that we're a chapter or a proposed one or a community or both? -- Felipe Aira 09:15, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
Just a quick note about the message of the presskit. Please take note that Wikimedia chapters do not maintain the Wikimedia projects. Only the Foundation does that. --seav (talk) 09:23, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
I would like to inform all that I'm about 1/4 in the making of it. And also, in some instances I've replaced Wikipedian with Wikimedian; like The Philippine Collaboration Project, otherwise know as "Tambayan" or "Tambayan Philippines", is the de facto name of the the extensive community of Wikimedians ... This is since our scope of is not only Wikipedia, and that's the actual thing that I've put there. Also, as a personal opinion it's very hard to find free PDF editors although it's practically a documentation standard. And the original press kit of Wikimedia has so many tyos. hehe. -- Felipe Aira 12:33, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
And also another question: attribution? Who will I attribute in the footnotes like "All Rights Reserved. unknown Copyright 2008."? It's obvious that I can't attribute Wikimedia Philippines since I can't attribute something that doesn't exist. Would it be ok if I'll just put the attribution to my self? And do you think it would be better if it's liscenced in the GFDL? -- Felipe Aira 13:06, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
- Just copyright it the way it is. The lay-out is definitely yours. If you'll use the text in Wikipedia:Tambayan_Philippines/presskit, just put a link to that. Same with the pics. If they are yours, put your name there. If it's someone else's who wants to be attributed, let's attribute it to him... I think it is perfectly all right if you attribute it to yourself. On the license, perhaps GFDL or CC-BY--Nino Gonzales (talk) 04:26, 31 May 2008 (UTC)
Ok I am almost done. It is a 5 page press kit. Page 1 - title page; Page 2- mission/introduction to wikimedia; Page 3 - Projects; Page 4- Statistics; Page 5- final call for participation; copyright information, and also maybe contact information? What number should I put? I am already at page 4, I'll just finish it tommorrow. And also I'll be needing answers to all my questions tommorrow to finalize the content. -- Felipe Aira 14:41, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
- Who wants to volunteer his number? If none, we could just put there the egroup email and the URL of the Tambayan...--Nino Gonzales (talk) 04:26, 31 May 2008 (UTC)
Ang also maybe intead of that image we can use one's from WikiWorld like this one. I know has a larger text length but at least as people are looking at the cute pictures they'll be thinking of Wikipedia, since most of the time only the picture's will be looked at. -- Felipe Aira 17:07, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
- Whatever you think is best man... --Nino Gonzales (talk) 04:26, 31 May 2008 (UTC)
It's finished! http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image:WikimediaPhilippinesPOSS.PDF It seems that it can't be read by v5 of Adobe Acrobat Reader. It renders properly under 8. I'll also create a png version of that. -- Felipe Aira 14:35, 31 May 2008 (UTC)
- Copyediting suggestions on the participation page:
“ | We invite you to help us, and this help won't require you anything. We only need you're time. You can help by simply writing, spellchecking and verifying articles in the English and Philippine-language Wikipedia, or any other language edition of Wikipedia. Quoted from Wikimedia's dear founder Jimmy Wales, "Imagine a world in which every single person has free access to the sum of all human knowledge.". You can help making it possible.
You may contact the Philippine Wikimedia Community at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WT:TAMBAY . |
” |
- "require you anything" -> "require anything from you"
- "need you're time" -> "need your time"
- "Philippine-language Wikipedia" -> "Philippine-language Wikipedias"
- "Quoted from" -> "To quote from" and scratch the "dear" ;-)
- The end of Jimbo's quote has doubled periods.
- "making it possible" -> "in making that vision possible"
- The second "You" in "You may contact..." is a bit jarring. I suggest rephrasing that sentence.
- There's an extra space after TAMBAY. If you're afraid that people might consider that a part of the URL, underline the URL and color it a subtle shade of blue.
- These are just some initial comments. I might go over the other pages. :) --seav (talk) 14:59, 31 May 2008 (UTC)
- Thank you for copy editing I will correct those tommorrow or maybe the other day. I feel sick today. -- Felipe Aira 07:39, 1 June 2008 (UTC)
Could we remove the French Communes from the Cebuano stats? It's misleading. Perhaps you could just put a footnote: *Excluding stubs on French Communes--Nino Gonzales (talk) 09:24, 1 June 2008 (UTC)
- I'll give you another version in the weekend. -- Felipe Aira 11:24, 3 June 2008 (UTC)
- Stop the presses! I took a look at the presskit: I recommend a thorough look-through and copy-edit before printing it. There are several errors with regard to spelling, capitalization, grammar and factual accuracy. For example, the Tagalog Wikibooks has 200+ modules (not books) and we don't have an Ilonggo Wikipedia (still in Incubator, it should be the Ilokano Wikipedia), among others. --Sky Harbor 00:49, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
Here are the new statistics included in the Press kit. Sources are stats.wikimedia.org and stats.grok.se . I'll be uploading it later. It is now smaller (around 2 MB) since it was made from scratch (unlike the first one that was just superimposed over the original Wikimedia Presskit). Mistakes that were noted above have been corrected, and page 3 has been redesigned, and other mistakes have been corrected as well. It follows the British orthography not the American one (so it's "specialising" not "specializing"). Expect the new version, an hour or two from now. And also it now contains 6 pages. -- Felipe Aira 07:22, 7 June 2008 (UTC)

The new version is complete. It's much smaller in size (originally 3.7 MB; currently 2.3 MB), although it now has 6 pages. 3 of which concerns statistics. Its here at http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image:WikimediaPhilippinesPOSS.PDF . -- Felipe Aira 08:43, 7 June 2008 (UTC)
- I don't get why British spelling conventions are used when the vast majority of Filipinos use American spelling conventions over British ones. The spelling errors do not account for orthographical differences between American and British English, although American orthography should have been used. By the way, there are still errors. For example, it's the Tagalog Wikinews that's in the Incubator, not the Tagalog Wikibooks, "ofthe" in the Tagalog Wikipedia description should have a space between the "of" and the "the", the Tagalog Wikibooks has a focus on recipes (not cookbooks), and a Bikol Wiktionary is in the Incubator, among others. --Sky Harbor 14:58, 7 June 2008 (UTC)
- Wow thank you for seeing those errors, I'll be uploading a new one later. And also, did you notice any other errors? I need to know it all so that there won't be any in the next one. In the case of British orthography, that's the kind I'm used to, and I don't think anything's wrong about, as long as it's still English. -- Felipe Aira 08:37, 8 June 2008 (UTC)
- And also I'll be adding Tausug and the Bikol Wiktionary. Should the Filipino Wiktionary and/or Wikipedia be added, I think it shouldn't be, since I believe the proposal page in meta was trashed and nobody, or at least we, supports it? -- Felipe Aira 08:45, 8 June 2008 (UTC)
- By the way, the test projects for Filipino are bogus. People there are so confused about the language that they advocate. Filipino is not Taglish. See incubator:Wp/fil and incubator:Wt/fil. -- Felipe Aira 09:03, 8 June 2008 (UTC)
- Ok this is what I'll do: I'll be doing Sky's corrections add Bikol Wiktionary. I won't be adding Filipino since they were rejected, and Tausug because it is not yet formally proposed, and it's test is in English. I guess perhaps even the proposer is not Tausug. -- Felipe Aira 02:56, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
- Even if the proposer is not Tausug, it's valid (the Hiligaynon test was also in English when it started). POSS would be a good way for Tausug speakers who could be attending the conference to contribute to Wikipedia in their native language (out of all the existing Wikipedias, both regular and test, Tausug has the second-smallest number of speakers at 1.022 million, with only Chavacano having less). However, I will not back Filipino being inserted into the presskit. --Sky Harbor 05:54, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
- It will be most biased if I should include Tausug. So I won't. -- Felipe Aira 06:45, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
- I agree to that. I also created a test first page for Pandan Bikol. A link of an online community of Pandan Bikol (and Virac Bikol) speakers is posted there. Re Rinconada Bikol test, no contributors yet. --Filipinayzd (talk) 14:05, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

June 10 version
A new version, which is the final version, has been now uploaded. Encoding errors, et cetera have been corrected. http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image:WikimediaPhilippinesPOSS.PDF -- Felipe Aira 13:57, 10 June 2008 (UTC)
Some errors and points for improvement:
- page 1, change the double dashes with an em dash
- page 2, 1st paragraph: "connexion" to "connection"
- page 2, 1st paragraph: add a comma after "Currently" in "Currently Wikimedia servers host..."
- page 2, 1st paragraph: use semicolons to separate the projects since commas are already used as appositive delimiters.
- page 2, 2nd paragraph: "currently at the process" to "currently in the process"
- page 2, 2nd paragraph: "edcational" to "educational"
- page 2, 2nd paragraph: "producing open content" to "helping to produce open content" (remember, Wikimedia Philippines does not own the Philippine-language Wikimedia projects)
- page 2, 2nd paragraph: "Asia" to "Southeast Asia", there is already a Wikimedia Hong Kong and a Wikimedia Taiwan.
- page 2, 2nd paragraph: "has potential" to "has the potential"
- page 2, 3rd paragraph: add a comma after "and verify the articles' content"
- page 2, 4th paragraph: "presented to an article" to "bestowed on an article"
- page 2, 4th paragraph: "neutral of content" to "neutral content"
- page 2, 4th paragraph: "written in the most excellent style" to "written in an engaging and readable manner"
- page 2, 4th paragraph: "such as the articles of" to "such as the articles on"
- page 2, 4th paragraph: add quotation marks around the articles' titles
- page 3, Tagalog Wiktionary: "mostly are of Tagalog" to "most of which are from Tagalog"
- page 3, Tagalog Wikibooks: italicize "Florante at Laura" since it's the title of a book
- page 3: The footnote to the incubator projects is too small. Make it a bit larger and place it at the bottom to be a real footnote.
- page 4: The graph seems to have a "Full-screen Snip" watermark on it. I also suggest making the data lines a bit thicker
- page 5: Why is the Ceb and Tl graph repeated?
- page 5: The graphs seems to have a "Full-screen Snip" watermark on them. I also suggest making the data lines a bit thicker
- page 6: Is there an explanation for the spike at the end of March 2008? I'm sure those reading the pamphlets will ask this and it's best to give the POSS participants an answer to give. The answer need not be in the pamphlet.
- page 6: "won't require anything from you. We only need your time" to "won't require anything from you but your time and dedication"
- page 6: Is the YahooGroups Philwiki address set to be able to receive e-mail from non-members?
- page 6: "Gnu" to "GNU"
I wish you could have placed the text here or at Meta so that we could have all collaborated in making the text an example of Wikipedia's brilliant prose. --seav (talk) 15:46, 10 June 2008 (UTC)
- Ok, I've already uploaded new statistics. This time it doesn't have the "Full-screen snip" watermark, which is a side effect of the Snipping Tool of the worst OS ever. However if you can still see that the watermark is still there try purging the cache (both the server's and yours).
- The statistics for the pageviews have been updated (I'll be updating that every 5 days); it now includes an statistic about June 10 (that's yesterday). Quite oddly, there's a spike again, which is bigger than the last one. But this one was only experienced by TL not ceb, and also perhaps this is linked to the heightened vandalism we've been encountering at TL. Perhaps when there are more people viewing a wiki, there is a much better possibility of vandalism don't you think? Starting from March 28 to April 2 Tl and CEB experienced a huge spike in page views. TL: 8,700 pageviews (normally between 900 to 2500); CEB: 8,100 pageviews (normally less than a thousand). There has been also a countinuous and stable rise of pageviews after that spike (starting from April). And just yesterday TL experienced a huge spike again, even larger than the one before, with 12,300 pageviews on June 10 compared to 3700 pageviews of June 5.
- Thank you very much Seav for the copy-edits. I hope this time I upload again, it will be now perfect. About "connexion", as I've said the document follows British orthography; that's how they spell it. The repitition of the graph for Tagalog and Ceb should have been the statistics of activity in Philippine-language Wikipedias. I cannot explain the spikes on both March 28 - April 2, and the one yesterday. I have no idea. However I strongly believe that it has something to do with the Wikimedia Foundation press release (WMF:Press_releases/10M_articles), which was released on March 28, the same day the spike began, and it mentions the Tagalog Wikipedia as one of the fastest growing small Wikipedias; we doubled our size <sarcastic>thanks to Wikiboost. Perhaps we got featured again yesterday? The others, I shall correct them all.
- -- Felipe Aira 09:48, 11 June 2008 (UTC)
- Well, the "connexion" looks really odd. Filipinos usually follow American English spelling and the British themselves are using "connexion" less (see this). Filipinos are more familiar with meter/metre and color/colour variances but connection/connexion much less.
- Ok I'm going to take your word for it. I shall change it. -- Felipe Aira 09:58, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

- Also I won't replace commas with semi colons. Although it's an ease with reading, I don't think it's grammatically correct since those different projects are still on the same clause. -- Felipe Aira 11:06, 11 June 2008 (UTC)
- Also, I won't move the footnote but rather enlarge it. Why? How will the reader know that it's about the incubator projects? -- Felipe Aira 11:13, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

It's here: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image:WikimediaPhilippinesPOSS.PDF . Since it is now the final version, translations may now be done. Just tell if it needs to be translated to Tagalog. -- Felipe Aira 11:38, 11 June 2008 (UTC)
- I will take care of the Tagalog translation. And BTW, the article is "History of the Philippines". --Sky Harbor 13:02, 11 June 2008 (UTC)
Its been 14 years, I believe we need to expand this article to include history (MozCom, DOST PHNet), Top 10 visited websites in 2007. I remember the days of 28k dial-up of different ISPs and then the introduction of ISP scratch cards and the ILOVEYOU virus, the erap animated drawings, broadband internet, smartbro, friendster, tipidpc, pinoyexchange, yugatech, internet advertising, and of course wikipedia. --Exec8 (talk) 23:50, 15 June 2008 (UTC)
Pinoy Wikipedia Friendster Group
One of the things discussed in 4th PhilWiki Chat is a creation of a social networking group to get more awareness of WP:TAMBAY. The following sites were created:
- pinoywikipedia.multiply.com
- www.come.to/wikipedia
- Pinoy Wikipedia Friendster Group
- Facebook profile
- Facebook group keyword: "Pinoy Wikipedia"
--Exec8 (talk) 15:27, 13 June 2008 (UTC)

Is the multiply site a group site? There are other features when it is a group site. --bluemask (talk) 08:59, 14 June 2008 (UTC)
- Yay! Any more and more Filipino teens will be aware about WP... But of course, we must make sure that they won't screw up once they join... Blake Gripling (talk) 10:05, 14 June 2008 (UTC)
- We shouldn't try to alienate teen Wikipedians by generalizing them. True, we need to correct their mistakes, but we must also correct their editing habits. Remember, there are responsible teen Wikipedians out there (like myself and Felipe Aira, among others). --Sky Harbor 14:18, 14 June 2008 (UTC)
- True. Remember every vandal has the possibility of being a very active Wikipedian. That's why don't insult the vandals. -- Felipe Aira 14:28, 14 June 2008 (UTC)

Question: what's the e-mail being used? That is so I can add it to the friends list. -- Felipe Aira 10:29, 14 June 2008 (UTC)
- Speaking of 'Pinoy Wikipedia', you need to confirm your identity to me on the Pinoy Wikipedia friendster group, since I'm the owner:
- First, you need to send me an email to me via Special:Emailuser or send me an email (see the Contact iaN page for the info) with this format:
- Real name: Firstname Surname
- Friendster site (it can be in any one of these formats, I'm using mine as an example):
- http://profiles.friendster.com/user.php?uid=17950227
- http://profiles.friendster.com/ianlopez1115 (if you have a personalized URL link)
- Contributes to which version(s) of Wikipedia: English, Tagalog
- Real name: Firstname Surname
- And by the way, no vandals allowed. I'm just doing this to weed out who's who. Also, I'm allowing myself to show some personal info just to demostrate how to "confirm your identity", and the 3 pages listed above all link to the same page. That will be all. -iaNLOPEZ1115 12:58, 15 June 2008 (UTC)
Have you seen this one? http://profiles.friendster.com/wikipedia also known as Wikimedia Manila. --Exec8 (talk) 20:53, 15 June 2008 (UTC)

Spanish wiki
I'm having a hard time making crucial corrections there on Filipino articles as of now. Hopefuly it will change. I might focus on using Enciclopedia libre instead.--Jondel (talk) 01:47, 16 June 2008 (UTC)
- I'm developing my Spanish before I consider a second foray into the Spanish Wikipedia. I still maintain my account there, though. --Sky Harbor 11:29, 16 June 2008 (UTC)
- Please do develop your Spanish. Did you know in the history page, its says that the members of the local (independentista) separatist movement, were made up of a faction of the Spanish-speaking, mistizo bourgeoisie aspiring to political power..... (se gestó un movimiento independentista local, compuesto por una facción de la burguesía mestiza hispano-parlante, aspirante al poder político que le estaba vedado.)?? What about there rest like speakers of Tagalog like Bonifacio, Cebuano, etc....!?? They have their own interpretations at the Spanish wiki. This happens a few times and I get into edit wars. (I wonder if it says in the Chinese wiki that the Chinese filipino speakers were propagators of the revolution and so on and so forth for other languages)Uh it is a bit to much for me now. Im in Japan btw.--Jondel (talk) 00:24, 17 June 2008 (UTC)

Just to remind everyone, there's been a great breakthrough at the Tagalog Wikipedia Page Views. I told you about the spike before right; the one which occurred from 28 March to 2 April. That week gathered around 8,700 pageviews. This 10 June the Tagalog Wikipedia page views reached 12,300. And most surprisingly this 11 June we gathered 21,400, and this 12 June, we gathered 21,000 page views. This makes it the highest pageviews reached in Philippine-Wikipedia History. I wish that this will mean more contributors, and readers not increased vandalism, which is happenning now. The Cebuano Wikipedia also experienced an increase in page views, although not as huge; 10 June: 1,400; 11 June: 1,900; 12 June: 1,700. The norm at ceb is usually less than a thousand. And just to give you a comparison, on average the English Wikipedia receives around 14 million page views a day. -- Felipe Aira 11:09, 13 June 2008 (UTC)
New statistics for pageviews of ceb and tl
I'll now be publishing the first one every five days, and the rest monthly. It's nice no, finally we know that at least a number of persons our reading the Wikipedias we have written. -- Felipe Aira 14:01, 13 June 2008 (UTC)
This is great! Where can you find the data for this? What happened in Mar 08? Why is there a spike for both? --Nino Gonzales (talk) 01:30, 16 June 2008 (UTC)
- See the section about the POSS something above. I've explained it there. It's from http://stats.grok.se/ while the others are from http://stats.wikimedia.org/ . And also as an update yesterday (13 June) pageviews dropped to 10,800 half of 21,400 of 11 June. Yet it is still significantly higher than the average. I don't have a theory for what caused this. But maybe we got featured? Since that was the cause last spike. -- Felipe Aira 13:03, 16 June 2008 (UTC)
The general statistics are again updated. Notice how the recent spike dwarfs the latter spike. It just happens that yesterday (15 June) TL got 25,700 pageviews, and again making a new record. Ceb's stats are also somehow gradually growing. Its current state almost equals the norm of TL. -- Felipe Aira 10:45, 18 June 2008 (UTC)
Follow-up on Iloilo International Airport
The FA nomination for Iloilo International Airport is proceeding extremely slowly (in fact, I already missed my intended date for Main Page display). Currently, there are but mere comments. So this means that there is no consensus.
The fact that majority of Filipino editors were not involved in the article should not be a deterrent for objectively reviewing the article and giving your support or opposition. I hope that I will be able to encourage enough editors to be able to assess the article and determine whether or not it is fit for FA. Unlike the case for the Manila Metro Rail Transit System, where the issue was raised before, the "being Filipino" of an editor assessing the article should not serve as a deterrent to objectively assess and, in turn, determine whether or not it is fit for FA status (there is no case of national bias here, and the last four editors who assessed the article are non-Filipino). So hopefully, I will be able to extract more Filipino involvement in the FA process, which is noticeably absent among much of the community. --Sky Harbor 13:53, 16 June 2008 (UTC)
- I don't think I can support since I've done too much editing and correcting to be uninvolved. --seav (talk) 16:00, 16 June 2008 (UTC)
- BTW, you really don't get to choose when an FA goes to the main page. You may suggest a particular date but it's really up to the FA director. --seav (talk) 02:57, 17 June 2008 (UTC)
- I can nominate one. Anyway, I need help with copy-editing. Anyone willing to help copy-edit? --Sky Harbor 10:19, 17 June 2008 (UTC)
Wikipedia Philippines By-laws and CTCs
Team, please submit your comments. We need to get as much inputs and comments as possible. We should vote on this measure on or before Saturday, June 14, 2008 and submit the Articles of Incorporation and By-Laws to the ChapCom the following day. By-laws are there since May so 1 1/2 month screening and review would be just enough. We also need the CTC # of the pledged incorporators on or before June 14. --Exec8 (talk) 21:38, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
Changing the target date
Since the target date of Incorporation (on or before August 1) nears, I would like to ask if you are in favor of the June 14, 2008 target date to vote the By-laws draft or move it to another date like June 21 or 28 . The 5th PhilWiki Chat will be conducted Sunday after the submission of the By-laws to the ChapCom and Manila 4 will be Sunday after the 5th PhilWiki Chat. --Exec8 (talk) 20:53, 11 June 2008 (UTC)
- At the rate we're going, it's going to be a while before we are able to polish the By-laws. I suggest Chapcom submission of the AoI and BL in early July. (Say, you haven't given your extensive comments on the BL yet, Exec8.) --seav (talk) 02:51, 12 June 2008 (UTC)
- Once we finish the review, can we seek the help of a lawyer before we submit it to ChapCom? There could be some legal issues on the By-laws that only professionals may know. Anyo Niminus' lawyer friend offered a free legal service for us. We can invite his friend to one of our meet-ups.--Jojit (talk) 05:11, 12 June 2008 (UTC)
- It is best to have lawyer(s) look at the by-laws this early, this way we can make a better collaboration and provide a simple, fair and legal org document. I therefore move the target date to July 5 and submit to ChapCom on July 6. The 5th PhilWiki Chat will be conducted on June 21 to discuss strategies for the succeeding six weeks of paperworks and to provide support for the delegates of Cebu 1 Meeting and POSS. Manila 4 on the other hand will be on July 13 and there is a possibility that we may need to renew reservation of the corporate name and extend deadline on October 2008. --Exec8 (talk) 14:52, 13 June 2008 (UTC)
- Sorry, had just seen this, just post on my talk page if you want to get in touch with my friend, so I can forward his contact info. --Anyo Niminus (talk) 09:56, 19 June 2008 (UTC)

Moved to July pending completion of By-laws. Votation set for July 5, 2008. --Exec8 (talk) 14:41, 17 June 2008 (UTC)
- Given the slow pace of discussion on the By-laws online, I would recommend setting one or two physical meetups to complete this. Likewise, people should follow up on discussions on a regular basis. POSS updates 20Jun08
- Wpinas has printed the collateral
- Participants
- Bentong - not going due to ideological reasons. Will be around for the 1st Cebu Wikipedia meet-up
- Nino - I was supposed to give a project management training right after the summit (they would have paid for my fare), but that didn't push through, so I'm not going.
- Jojit - Not going to POSS but will be around for the 1st Cebu Wikipedia meet-up
- Kurt - Seems to be pushing through

Article assessment update: C-Class articles
Article assessors: as much as the word dagdag-trabaho is something worth dreading, this is important: the addition of the C-Class article category. There may be Philippine articles that qualify under this classification over "Start" or "B-Class" articles. See this and this, as well as this. --Sky Harbor (talk) 15:23, 21 June 2008 (UTC)

- No rush. The first step is to assess all articles first. We'll deal with updating them later. --seav (talk) 17:01, 22 June 2008 (UTC)
- I would recommend using C-Class rankings on articles to be assessed and re-assessing articles as C-Class after all articles have been assessed. That should ease some of the workload. --Sky Harbor (talk) 01:05, 23 June 2008 (UTC)
- Somebody should update the box in Wikipedia:Tambayan Philippines/Assessment to show the C-class articles.--Lenticel (talk) 00:08, 24 June 2008 (UTC)

Pangasinan Wikipedia
What happened to the Pangasinan Wikipedia? People go there. http://pag.wikipedia.org/. I know I don't speak Pangasinan but that is wrong. Try to click the random page button, and look at what you'll see. Those are not even encyclopedic. I think we should do something about this. They are trying to make a Wiktionary out of their Wikipedia. See the pages under http://pag.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Listaan_na_Salitan_Pangasinan . What I understand is that those are definitions, unencyclopedic ones and should be deleted. There are about 2,313 pages that is in pretty much the same format as that. The Wikipedia Pangasinan has aroung 3,100 articles. And also it seems that the person responsible for those unencyclopedic pages is Arikasikis, same person who created the Anti-Tagalog Imperialism Coalition and noticeboard. Again people are creating pages, not articles, to fool themselves and other people that their Wikipedia is large and comprehensive. -- Felipe Aira 10:28, 23 June 2008 (UTC)
- If you cannot edit or improve the articles there, leave them alone. Contributors will only be discouraged of writing or translating articles if their contributions are being deleted specially by a non-native user. Re: Ariskasikis, is he/s- a Pangasinan speaker? --Filipinayzd (talk) 12:26, 23 June 2008 (UTC)
- But you'll have to consider that those pages are not even within the scope of Wikipedia, and thus unencyclopedic. If content is unencyclopedic then they should not be included in the encyclopedia. -- Felipe Aira 13:02, 23 June 2008 (UTC)
- It seems there should be a mass shift of material from pag.wiki to wiktionary. --Soman (talk) 14:27, 23 June 2008 (UTC)

- Although I understand little Pangasinan, cleaning the whole wikipedia alone requires me 10 by 7 work for 1 month. And I observed that user is inactive for sometime now. Maybe I need to get a crash course from my parents who speak Pangasinan and Ilokano :) --Exec8 (talk) 22:02, 23 June 2008 (UTC)
- I would be happy to join the cleanup since it would be mere page deletion, I can use a bot for that; although I would need admin powers for my tl:User:AiraBot in the Pangasinan Wiki. There is a bot script that is designed to delete pages en masse. -- Felipe Aira 10:10, 24 June 2008 (UTC)
- Arikasikis as far as I know is the only active native contributor. From my observation, since no action was taken on the Pangasinan Wiktionary, it was decided to incorporate it into the Wikipedia. --Sky Harbor (talk) 11:15, 24 June 2008 (UTC)
- Which is wrong. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia not a dictionary. And even so, there is very little chance that this language can even get its own Wiktionary; that assumption is by simply looking at the current activity of the Tagalog Wiktionary (almost none), and the Pangasinan community/Wikipedia being the least active. -- Felipe Aira 11:22, 24 June 2008 (UTC)
- Be advised that the time the Pangasinan Wikipedia request was launched, a request for a Pangasinan Wiktionary was also launched. Both were approved. However, with the overhaul of the new language requests process (and since our overworked developers did not make the Pangasinan Wiktionary), the request was not carried out in the same way the Ilokano and Cebuano Wiktionaries were subsequently "rejected" despite being approved. --Sky Harbor (talk) 13:03, 24 June 2008 (UTC)

The project will involve two phases:
- Article Completion (start articles), 2000 data
- Article Development - July 6 until August 31
- Inclusion of LGU officials (2007-2010 term) using lmp.org.ph and lpp.gov.ph
- Adding 2007 Population Data without deleting the 2000 data.
I hope we join together to complete this project just like NAIA-3 (almost done but on hiberation mode). --Exec8 (talk) 15:42, 21 June 2008 (UTC)

Cebuano wikipedia anniversary
Hello tambays, the ceb: wikipedia is having its 3rd foundation anniversary this June 22 (a bit late announcement :=). The cebuano wiki has its first edit on June 25, 2005, now it has more than 34,100 articles and more than 213,000 edits. For tambays who can contribute to the development of cebwiki, you're always welcome (thanks Felipe_Aira for contributing there). Jordz (talk) 06:14, 26 June 2008 (UTC)

I think cebwiki and pamwiki are approved at the same time? I have a hard time looking at the exact founding dates (approval dates?) of our wikipedias. Here are the founding anniversary dates (taken from the Main Page, in the absence of which, the first edit date is presented, taken from http://stats.wikimedia.org/EN/Sitemap.htm:

I think we should discuss this. We could reason out that official portraits are irreplaceable. On the other hand, we could say that these can be replaced as the subjects of the portraits are still living. Any comments?--Lenticel (talk) 07:05, 29 June 2008 (UTC)

Uhh...
While making regular rounds on the help desk, I see that Judge Floro has asked for help from non-Filipino Wikipedians involving copy-pasting information verbatim from the main namespace to the talk namespace (see it here). He does this particularly when wanting to get suggestions involving editing articles. I have investigated the situation involving his "predicament" and have suggested making a sandbox. Anyone else want to give suggestions? --Sky Harbor (talk) 12:43, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
I have deleted/stubbed most of National Disaster Coordinating Council (Philippines) as a very blatent copyvio from the organization's web page. I originally speedy deleted it, but it's obviously notable, and have decided I should leave something from which to rebuild. This is a notice so that those with interest and knowledge can reconstruct a page that does not rip off the organization's web page. [2] - TexasAndroid (talk) 18:35, 30 June 2008 (UTC)

OK, so Spellcast has already blocked him, due to the account being a sock of Gerald; I've noticed that his contributions are obviously copywrong, due to the fact that he steals a magazine cover or a promotional image, posts it in his own Flickr page, and then uses the Flickr stuff as an excuse for him to do so, claiming that the images are under the Creative Commons license:
Angel Locsin in T3 Magazine by GoblinTech is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 2.0 UK: England & Wales License.Based on a work at www.flickr.com/photos/goblintech/2615595698/" rel="dc:source.Permissions beyond the scope of this license may be available at www.flickr.com/photos/goblintech/2615595698/" rel="cc:morePermissions.
But, as we all know, Summit Media holds the rights to the magazine, and Goblin, or Gerald, has no rights to claim it as his, or tag a Creative Commons license on it, unless if he made a parody of it, to which the license may apply. I added a comment regarding his photostream and this photo:
However, it is obviously copyrighted, regarding your upload in Wikipedia. Summit Media holds the rights to the image, you CANNOT claim it as yours or as something under the Creative Commons license.
I also reported him to the Flickr admin regarding his breach of guidelines, since the photos are copyvio, and the site guidelines say that "Do upload content that you have created. Respect the copyright of others. This means don't steal photos or videos that other people have shared and pass them off as your own."... Any thoughts on this? Blake Gripling (talk) 00:57, 2 July 2008 (UTC)
- You did the right thing there in reporting him to Flickr. However, that is a matter that can be best resolved by the Flickr peepz, so let's let them take this Flickr-related copyvio issue into their own hands. In the meantime, I've noticed that you did remove the now-deleted image references, so I think the article looks fine (for now). A better way of explaining what passes off as "uploading content that you have created" is this: "a photo you took of Angel Locsin when you spotted her in (say) Mall of Asia is good, but a photo you took of Angel Locsin's ad in a magazine isn't." - Move it to Melgar, Basilisa, Dinagat Islands if it were. Depends though on notability. The barangay is certainly notable to the residents of the barangay and the municipality, but I'm not sure outside of the municipality. --Sky Harbor (talk) 13:56, 2 July 2008 (UTC)

Before we move discussions to its page, I ask your inputs whether you'll be available. Please fill the table so we can make a consensus. Topic will be focused at the pending By-laws and WMPH incorporation. We also need to discuss some things like the regional language wikipedia development and the result of Cebu 1 (I am not aware if "Frank" suspends that meetup). --Exec8 (talk) 21:57, 23 June 2008 (UTC)

Presidential portraits
The official portrait of President Arroyo was deleted despite three keep votes and no opposes. Deletion review, anyone? --Sky Harbor (talk) 09:20, 3 July 2008 (UTC)
- Perhaps the argument is if the official portraits are that important when other freely licensed photos are available. --Howard the Duck 13:51, 3 July 2008 (UTC)

Articles flagged for cleanup
Currently, 1301 of the articles assigned to this project, or 20.1%, are flagged for cleanup of some sort. (Data as of 18 June 2008.) Are you interested in finding out more? I am offering to generate cleanup to-do lists on a project or work group level. See User:B. Wolterding/Cleanup listings for details. Subsribing is easy - just add a template to your project page. Right now, I'm expecting a backlash from this user, because of his record. This user obviously does not know the ropes here in Wikipedia, especially with his GMA Network Logos article, which obviously clasehes with WP:NFCC. I've just validly reverted his edits on Pinoy Idol because he primped it into an ad-like article (like this), which is clashing with WP:ADVERT. But with my history with this guy, he is one who could not be minded very easily, especially when he flamed me through an e-mail (which I showed to Lenticel). Can anyone help me in dealing this guy. - 上村七美 (Nanami-chan) | talkback | contribs 11:10, 4 July 2008 (UTC)

Changes to the WP:1.0 assessment scheme
As you may have heard, we at the Wikipedia 1.0 Editorial Team recently made some changes to the assessment scale, including the addition of a new level. The new description is available at WP:ASSESS.
- The new C-Class represents articles that are beyond the basic Start-Class, but which need additional references or cleanup to meet the standards for B-Class.
- The criteria for B-Class have been tightened up with the addition of a rubric, and are now more in line with the stricter standards already used at some projects.
- A-Class article reviews will now need more than one person, as described here.
Each WikiProject should already have a new C-Class category at Category:C-Class_articles. If your project elects not to use the new level, you can simply delete your WikiProject's C-Class category and clarify any amendments on your project's assessment/discussion pages. The bot is already finding and listing C-Class articles.
Please leave a message with us if you have any queries regarding the introduction of the revised scheme. This scheme should allow the team to start producing offline selections for your project and the wider community within the next year. Thanks for using the Wikipedia 1.0 scheme! July 12 at Starbucks might not work. As shown on one discussion section above, I am open switching venue to CCP (never been to CCP since High School). I recommend July 19 at 2pm but it depends (again) on your availability and willingness to go to CCP. I am willing to spend up to PhP 1500 for snacks and drinks for participants (yeah I did something like that on Manila 1). We can discuss language translations of places like "Southern Leyte" or "Autonomous Region on Muslim Mindanao" with resource speakers. --Exec8 (talk) 00:17, 5 July 2008 (UTC)

Second, third opinions needed on Lapu-Lapu
Hello!
I'm not positive if this is just one editor on a dynamic IP or if there are more people involved in this but someone keeps inserting a claim that Lapu-Lapu was Muslim citing this link as a source as well as a supposed press release by the government in this dead link. Could we get some opinions on this? Was he really Muslim and can this be verified? I don't even know if the source provided can be considered a reliable source to begin with.
Thanks! SWik78 (talk • contribs) 15:22, 9 July 2008 (UTC)

Tagalog Wikipedia admiship nomination
Hey people, I'm just posting this to remind you all that tl:User:AnakngAraw is still under RfA. She is also working here at User:DaughterofSun. And as a matter of fact, she's actually a rollbacker here at en. She is a very active Tagalog Wikipedian, and she has made a lot of contributions; in her first months she already had >6,000 edits today maybe almost 10,000. Just look at her talk page at tl and en how it is decorated with lots of barnstars and thanks. It would be really helpful if there will be more Tagalog admins, especially now that vandalism is at a very high rate; and she is actually a vandal fighter herself at tl. She could certainly use admin tools. So I encourage you to vote at tl:Wikipedia:Nominasyon para sa Tagapangasiwa ng Wikipedia Tagalog. -- Felipe Aira 13:12, 11 July 2008 (UTC)

To whom this may concern,
My friend (ken8dp) and i are trying to upload historical materials for our home province of occidental mindoro. We thought that through wikipedia, materials that members of our group have painstakingly researched would reach a wider readership through wikipedia. We haven't uploaded articles in wikipedia before, so please bear with us. Our first attempt at uploading (we started with the history of Calintaan, one of the municipalities in our province) has been dubbed as a possible copyright infringement and not "wikified."
We understand the latter, as there are still a million things to learn in "wikifying" but we've got a go signal from the authors of the historical articles to upload the entire material. Please let us now what proof you need for this. Do you want to talk to the author via ym? Does the author need to send an email to a wikipedia adminstrator? We apologize for asking what perhaps to you are stupid questions, but we are determined to learn, and get our materials in Wikipedia. So again, please bear us with us.
Sikatuna sunset (talk) 23:50, 2 July 2008 (UTC)
- Ronet, welcome to wikipedia. I would be happy to help you out. There is no need to send an email. Be sure to display your sources as reference. Best regards --Jondel (talk) 00:28, 3 July 2008 (UTC)
Jondel, thanks, I am familiarizing myself with "wikifying," reading up to the links provided by your colleague Ttony21...I guess the history of the barangays of Calintaan that you deleted will have to be uploaded in separate pages. I do not know how to do that yet, but I will learn. Thanks again. Sikatuna sunset (talk) 23:01, 3 July 2008 (UTC)
- Sikatuna/Ronet, yes you can create a separate article and put something like: See history of barangays of Calintaan. You can also put it on the same page but rewrite. The reason I deleted is because you really can not put a word-for-word copy. You will really get into trouble with other editors(not just me). I was too tired also to rewrite. You can by the way put the History of barangays but you need to rewrite, use different words. I can work on this too. It is also good that you put references. I'd like to remind you to read the bottom outside the edit box where it says:If you don't want your writing to be edited mercilessly or redistributed for profit by others, do not submit it.(Not that people here are horrible vandalizers ). Really it is better that we coordinate than getting into conflict with other editors. Cheers--Jondel (talk) 23:31, 3 July 2008 (UTC)
Jondel, I have done some cleanups on the History of Calintaan article already. OK I will re-upload the history of the specific barangays, by re-writing these. It seems best to put these in the Calintaan pages. I actually do not know how to create a separate section within the same page. Is it simply by using headings? Are the headings automatically generated in the table of contents. Thanks for the help and the patience.
Sikatuna sunset (talk) 22:40, 8 July 2008 (UTC)
- What I meant before was create a separate article e.g. History of Barangays of Calintaan. It might be susceptible to deletion for notability, then we really have to fight to for it to prevail here in wikipedia. But then again nobody will mind. You can also just continue writing within the old paragraph. Just use the equals sign:== History of Barangays of Calintaan== like when you create a separate paragraph. However on some browers, that will prolong uploading the article of Calintaan. That would be testing the patience of the viewers wouldn't it? Anyway, you decide.I hope things work out.----Jondel (talk) 23:27, 8 July 2008 (UTC)
OK, what I just did was to start a new section. I placed a note for people to make comments. I started with the first barangay. Now my question is: How does the article get to become a new page, instead of just a "talk page?" If I am not making sense, please let me know. Once I get a better handle on this, I'll upload (rewrite) the articles on the other barangays of Calintaan. cheers
Sikatuna sunset (talk) 23:31, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
- Congrats on the new section. You can simply create a new article, if you want to, eg History of the Barangays of.. . You may have to establish notability and monitor or guard it for a while. I 've lost some articles because I couldn't maintain them. There is a wiki dictum: Be bold. There should be other articles of a similar nature, you can reference this when there are arguments of non-notability.--Jondel (talk) 00:49, 14 July 2008 (UTC)
When user pages are redirected to actual articles
I've come across some Filipino users/ possible socks that have been redirecting their user pages to actual articles such as Luvlife Cheer to ABS-CBN and Madapaka to Lobo. Since they are redirected, I cannot view the history as to who redirected them in the first place (although I am aware the Madapaka's user page was redirected by User:Consciously Unique, who is a suspected Gerard Gonzales sock). Starczamora (talk) 17:27, 10 July 2008 (UTC)
- You can still access the user page although its redirected. In the redirected page, see the article's title, then something like this pops up: "(Redirected from User:Madapaka)". Click the link then you have it. =) --Efe (talk) 11:43, 11 July 2008 (UTC)
- I've redirected Madapaka's user page to his own discussion page. I've also added a sock template to Luvlife Cheer's userpage. This account is obviously a sock of User:Gerald Gonzalez. -Danngarcia (talk) 22:46, 10 July 2008 (UTC)

Assessment Department Update (July 2008)
|
Since the last update in April, we have tagged about 900 articles as part of the Philippine-related articles assessment drive. There are still approximately 2,500 articles left to tag. The bulk tagging of past articles is the first phase of the Assessment department's activities. Let's continue clear up the backlog, people! :-)
By the way, please go to this section to install a user script that greatly simplifies the tagging. Combine this script with a tabbed browser and you should be able to tag 100 articles in 15 minutes.

History of San Jose
Hello, I'd like to know the reference for Sinaoga being the site of the first presidencia in Occidental Mindoro as stated in the History of San Jose article. I grew up in that island and is of course interested to know more. The island has experienced a lot of changes (ecologically) in the last 40 years. And Mangarin Bay where it it located has been silted so much, it does not look like a bay anymore like how it was before the Spaniards came. So I would be interested in the source of this information.
I would also like to know the source for the information that San Jose became a municipality in 1911. What I know is that it became a municipality by virtue of Executive Order 31 signed by Governor General Cameroon Forbes on April 18, 1910. So the foundation day of the municipality should be 1910, not 1911! If my townmates rely on the information in that article, we would be celebrating our 100th year foundation day in 1911, not 1910! Would appreciate any help, perhaps we got the date wrong. Thanks.
Philippine LGUs on other language Wikipedias
Ok, which Philippine language Wikipedias would like an automated upload of articles for cities/municipalities? I've got a wonderful bot for this stuff and I know how to use it. Plus, a spreadsheet with data for all the towns with the following fields:
- Name: Butuan
- Alternative name: --
- City/Municipality: City
- Capital: Capital
- Province: Agusan del Norte
- City class: Highly Urbanized
- Income class: 1st Class
- Population: 267279
- Registered voters: 140632
- PSGC code: 160202
- HASC code: PH.AN.BT
If anyone would like a bot to do the work of creating 1600~ articles for some other language Wiki, just give me a template for what to do with this data. TheCoffee (talk) 09:27, 11 July 2008 (UTC)
- How about just apply it to all Wikipedias. This is a great time-saver, and with this people would rather be writing articles than updating statistics. Although personally, I am not dedicated enough to put a great amount of time to make templates such as that. Great work though. -- Felipe Aira 11:15, 11 July 2008 (UTC)
Can you create a bot that creates Philippine municipality stubs? The article includes: introduction (default class: 4th since most of them are 4th class; blank/??? for 2007 pop.; section and intro for Barangays - to be corrected/supplied manually), locator map, external links (just the 2000 census and nscb links) and the interwiki. --Filipinayzd (talk) 15:36, 11 July 2008 (UTC)

I suggest if we can have one databank for local political leaders, population, and economic class that can change through time, that would be great. --Exec8 (talk) 22:58, 11 July 2008 (UTC)

Trivia/Did you know that
- In Visayan, two is duha: compare with:Latin:duo -ae -o irreg. num. [two]. Greek: two": *duwō (> Myc. du-wo /duwō/; Hom. δύω, dyō; Att.-Ion. δύο, dyo)
- The Tagalog word for bula is similar and possibly a cognate of Latin, bulla. I don't think the Taglalog word for bubble came from Spanish which is burbuja. Supposedly all languages are related. Latin for bubble is[ bulla -ae f. [a round swelling]- in water , [a bubble]].
- The word tatai meaning father can be found in Romanian and ancient latin, the ancestor of the latin word atai(atta, attae father ). Maybe it is easy for babies to pronounce this word. There is a similar word 'tatle' in Nahuatle.
- To drink in Tagalog, inum is similar to Japanese , nomu.
- To grasp in Tagalog is kapit.: Compare with the past tense of Latin: cepit.(3rd person of cepere).
- Sabon has many variants in Hindi, Indonesian, Malaysian (Sabun ,Sebun etc) , they all mean soap. In latin btw it is sapo, saponis.
- The first Pinoy -Italian dictionary was created by Pigafetta together with the slave, (whom I believe is Cebuano), Enrique. He thought , Malay was generic and spoken all over the Malay region(Phil.,Indone.,Malaysia). Upon examining, the words were found to be Cebuano. There is still no wiki article written on this.
- The word 'lima' meaning 5 is found from Madasgar , all the way to Hawaii , (I think).
- I translated Luzon , as Luconia in the Latin wiki as can be found in ancient maps. Luconia , I think is a cognate for Ilocano. Also, nearby , there are the straits of Luconia.
--Jondel (talk) 00:40, 14 July 2008 (UTC)
- The 'lima' is not surprising. Malagasy and Hawaiian and Tagalog are all part of the Malayo-Polynesian languages. --seav (talk) 04:54, 14 July 2008 (UTC)

- There is an old map which I can locate off the web but it will take some time & effort.(sorry natamad lang ako :D, but I wil do it ) Anyway do you want to see this map? In it Luzon is Luconia. Nearby there is a Luconia straits possibly derived from the old name of Luzon. It has hard to find substantial proof though of the connection between Luconia and Ilocano. --Jondel (talk) 09:20, 14 July 2008 (UTC)

No offense, but can't they bash WikiFilipinas instead, since their policy leans towards conflict of interest, or read the disclaimers instead? "Oh, let me guess, they did not." Hehe, and to think they reference WP for some stuff. Does this qualifies as libel? Hmm, maybe, because the reports seemed to be leaning on criticizing the project; even if we admit that there are some factual errors, efforts are made to correct it in a scholarly acceptable manner. - It's just natural that Wikipedians make mistakes; it may sound like it's warning kids to confirm stuff before passing it to the teacher, but even paper encyclopedias can harbor errors, too. It's hard to make an article that's 100-percent correct... Email ABS regarding this fiasco, anyone? Blake Gripling (talk) 12:37, 15 July 2008 (UTC)

I think it's ok. I very much doubt Wikipedia's reputation would be severely damaged much more because of Bandila. Hopefully, we can get more new editors! (And hopefully not the fanboy types.) --seav (talk) 02:26, 16 July 2008 (UTC)
new page watch

Added some tags there. the university article also had a notability tag. just letting you guys know. ty. --Eaglestorm (talk) 17:40, 14 July 2008 (UTC)
- User:Sumilang2008 is responsible for the POV/press-release edits. His contributions show that it is just a single-purpose, promotional account. I'll warn him for that... Blake Gripling (talk) 13:36, 16 July 2008 (UTC)

Here's the pageviews for June. Short summary: this is the best month for TL. Why? I can say it's from the flood of students doing their researches about Sibika and Social Studies. Just posting this for someone who's interested. -- Felipe Aira 10:12, 4 July 2008 (UTC)

Shariff Kabunsuan is now defunct
The Supreme Court has declared the creation of the province of Shariff Kabunsuan in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao void and ruled that the power of ARMM’s legislature to create provinces and cities is unconstitutional.
The SC, in an 8-6 vote, declared void Muslim Mindanao Autonomy Act 201, which created the province of Shariff Kabunsuan, which was carved out of Maguindanao province.[4] --Exec8 (talk) 04:26, 17 July 2008 (UTC)
- Wow. Good thing we didn't bother making individual locator maps for the municipalities. TheCoffee (talk) 06:47, 17 July 2008 (UTC)
- It's not yet final (too close to call, just one vote might change it, 8-6). Note, this year and next year, about 4 S.C. Justices will retire and will be replaced. So, under the Rules, appeal can be filed within 15 days, and the Court might not be able to act on this. When an appeal is filed, the judgment is vacated, that is, as if there is none (called "trial de novo." in old Rules), subject to Resolution. Here: they will appeal -[5]"Shariff Kabunsuan govt execs to appeal SC decision." This spares Wikipedians from creating maps images, etc.--Florentino floro (talk) 12:17, 17 July 2008 (UTC)
- The SC hasn't reconsidered its decision. Ever. --Howard the Duck 14:39, 17 July 2008 (UTC)
- Let's wait til it's executory and final. With regard to reconsidering decisions, it has, provided new arguments are presented. I know for a fact, the case where Jehovah's Witness students were exempted from pledging loyalty to the flag. --Scorpion prinz (Talk | contribs) 18:42, 17 July 2008 (UTC)

- My understanding is that the decision is effective immediately, and as of now the Province of Shariff Kabunsuan no longer exists. That's how the news articles are talking. (But then again, The Inquirer even got the number of provinces wrong-- it's down to 80 now, not 79) TheCoffee (talk) 04:04, 18 July 2008 (UTC)
- I sent a feedback to Inquirer.net through their feedback form. 79? Sloppy reporting! --seav (talk) 08:16, 18 July 2008 (UTC)
- Is moving the municipalities articles to Maguindanao a go? --bluemask (talk) 07:12, 18 July 2008 (UTC)
- I prefer waiting for the brouhaha to die down first. I'm not in favor of changing a lot of articles to reflect something like this if there's a chance that we would revert our changes again. --seav (talk) 08:09, 18 July 2008 (UTC)
- The decision can still be appealed, I don't think provincial officials of Shariff Kabunsuan are just willing to lose their jobs just yet without lifting a finger, unless no appeal is filed. I side with seav, lest we revert back the articles again. --Scorpion prinz (Talk | contribs) 09:14, 18 July 2008 (UTC)

- Sema v. Comelec - the Aftermath is legally horrifying. There is total disarray, chaos, and many are now displaced. If you read the full text of the decision,[6], there seems no Injunction filed or request for stay. The Rules of Court provides that in Injunction cases, the decision is immediately executory, but these cases are first in legal history. They must file Motion to Clarify, upon (pending) appeal, etc. Will the jobless guys be given salary, will the Governor be able to sign papers, release the budget? There has been no case like this since 1901. Worst, why did this thing just happen now, after huge amount of money was spent in the successful plebiscite. Who is to blame? Only one answer: Sema, since Dingalen booted this loosing candidate. This case is really a counter suit against Dingalen, resulting to legal and administrative chaos.--Florentino floro (talk) 11:16, 18 July 2008 (UTC)

ARMM to be expanded?
As if our problems are not enough: [7] Plebiscites might be held in Palawan, Lanao del Norte, Sultan Kudarat, North Cotabato and Zamboanga Sibugay. I hope that the new composition won't become a piecemeal thing like Isabela City-Basilan. --seav (talk) 12:35, 18 July 2008 (UTC)
Journal Online
I observed that some articles are citing Journal Online and by now, most of the cited articles are broken. I found out that as of today, articles posted before 2008-06-08 are not available on the said website. I suggest using WebCite to archive the articles first before using them as a citation for any Wikipedia articles. --bluemask (talk) 06:35, 19 July 2008 (UTC)
- It's Journal Online fault. All the articles posted the previous day are removed the next day, and its archive is non-existent. You could only rely on citing Journal article if you find that article through search engines. Starczamora (talk) 14:38, 19 July 2008 (UTC)
Late 19th Century Flag of Sulu
Can anyone confirm the existence of this flag? --bluemask (talk) 09:54, 19 July 2008 (UTC)
- Ask the author to provide the source. Starczamora (talk) 14:31, 19 July 2008 (UTC)
- I believe this is the flag used by the sultan, more like of a royal banner, not the flag of the sultanate itself. --Scorpion prinz (Talk | contribs) 09:46, 20 July 2008 (UTC)
Manila 4 (formerly First Wikipedia Tambayan Gimik)
I invite you next week for the first gimik of the Wikipedia Tambayan. We cant make it as Manila 4 since it is informal. Two wikipedians already provided their intent. If we are less than 10, its my treat!
- July 19, 2008 (Saturday)
- 2:00 PM
- SM Mall of Asia. Figaro, second floor near Food court and Ice Skating rink.
Possible places to visit:
- Seaside restaurants in San Miguel by the Bay
- CCP Cinemalaya
So if you are interested, include your name in the list.
- List of Attendees
- It turned out to be Manila 4 since technically no gimik happened, and no visit to CCP for cinemalaya.
- Actual list of attendees include:
- Exec8
- Jojit_fb
- Katimawan2005 of Kapampangan wiki.
- We used the opportunity to formally invite him and Val2397 to Tambayan Philippines. Katimawan2005 agreed to provide assistance for the creation of Wikimedia Philippines (hopefully to resume February 2009). We also discussed the Kapampangan language completion of LGU articles and possible creation of Kapampangan wiktionaty incubator. Jojit and I expressed support for Katimawan2005 and Val2397's elevation as bureaucrat in the the Kapampangan wikipedia.
Most likely Manila 5 might also happen in SM Mall of Asia on September 13 or September 14, 2008 in time of this event. --Exec8 (talk) 12:31, 19 July 2008 (UTC)
