Possible new Wikiproject - Mills

Possible new Wikiproject - Image Science

I'm very interested in creating a Wikiproject on Image Science. I find the quality of articles in this area to be lacking and I think I can get a group of folks together to work this. I am not sure whether it should go under the Technology or Science parent projects tho. Do any of you have any thoughts on this? Thanks. Tjamison (talk) 21:54, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

Greenspun illustration project: requests now open

Dear Wikimedians,

This is a (belated) announcement that requests are now being taken for illustrations to be created for the Philip Greenspun illustration project (PGIP).

The aim of the project is to create and improve illustrations on Wikimedia projects. You can help by identifying which important articles or concepts are missing illustrations (diagrams) that could make them a lot easier to understand. Requests should be made on this page: Philip_Greenspun_illustration_project/Requests

If there's a topic area you know a lot about or are involved with as a Wikiproject, why not conduct a review to see which illustrations are missing and needed for that topic? Existing content can be checked by using Mayflower to search Wikimedia Commons, or use the Free Image Search Tool to quickly check for images of a given topic in other-language projects.

The community suggestions will be used to shape the final list, which will be finalised to 50 specific requests for Round 1, due to start in January. People will be able to make suggestions for the duration of the project, not just in the lead-up to Round 1.

thanks, pfctdayelise (talk) 13:18, 13 December 2007 (UTC) (Project coordinator)

Georgetown PowerPlant Museum

I recently visited the Georgetown PowerPlant Museum and took a lot of photos. I'm pretty happy with these aesthetically, but to be honest for the most part I don't know much about what I was looking at, and they could use far better descriptions than I can give them. If anyone knows their way around the museum or steam technology for power generation, then help would be welcome throughout Commons:Category:Georgetown PowerPlant Museum. If there is anything I can help with (e.g. identifying where in the building certain shots were taken), just ask on my talk page and I'll do my best to help out. - Jmabel | Talk 04:32, 17 January 2008 (UTC)

Reminder of the Philip Greenspun Illustration project

Hi. You may be familiar with the Philip Greenspun Illustration Project. $20,000 has been donated to pay for the creation of high quality diagrams for Wikipedia and its sister projects.

Requests are currently being taken at m:Philip Greenspun illustration project/Requests and input from members of this project would be very welcome. If you can think of any diagrams (not photos or maps) that would be useful then I encourage you to suggest them at this page. If there is any free content material that would assist in drawing the diagram then it would be great if you could list that, too.

If there are any related (or unrelated) WikiProjects you think might have some suggestions then please pass this request over. Thanks. --Cherry blossom tree 16:56, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

Changes to the WP:1.0 assessment scheme

As you may have heard, we at the Wikipedia 1.0 Editorial Team recently made some changes to the assessment scale, including the addition of a new level. The new description is available at WP:ASSESS.

  • The new C-Class represents articles that are beyond the basic Start-Class, but which need additional references or cleanup to meet the standards for B-Class.
  • The criteria for B-Class have been tightened up with the addition of a rubric, and are now more in line with the stricter standards already used at some projects.
  • A-Class article reviews will now need more than one person, as described here.

Each WikiProject should already have a new C-Class category at Category:C-Class_articles. If your project elects not to use the new level, you can simply delete your WikiProject's C-Class category and clarify any amendments on your project's assessment/discussion pages. The bot is already finding and listing C-Class articles.

Please leave a message with us if you have any queries regarding the introduction of the revised scheme. This scheme should allow the team to start producing offline selections for your project and the wider community within the next year. Thanks for using the Wikipedia 1.0 scheme! Wikipedia 0.7 articles have been selected for Technology

Wikipedia 0.7 is a collection of English Wikipedia articles due to be released on DVD, and available for free download, later this year. The Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team has made an automated selection of articles for Version 0.7.

We would like to ask you to review the articles selected from this project. These were chosen from the articles with this project's talk page tag, based on the rated importance and quality. If there are any specific articles that should be removed, please let us know at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.7. You can also nominate additional articles for release, following the procedure at Wikipedia:Release Version Nominations.

A list of selected articles with cleanup tags, sorted by project, is available. The list is automatically updated each hour when it is loaded. Please try to fix any urgent problems in the selected articles. A team of copyeditors has agreed to help with copyediting requests, although you should try to fix simple issues on your own if possible.

We would also appreciate your help in identifying the version of each article that you think we should use, to help avoid vandalism or POV issues. These versions can be recorded at this project's subpage of User:SelectionBot/0.7. We are planning to release the selection for the holiday season, so we ask you to select the revisions before October 20. At that time, we will use an automatic process to identify which version of each article to release, if no version has been manually selected. Thanks! GEET and Paul Pantone

I was recently made aware of this story about Paul Pantone and his invention known as Global Environmental Energy Technology (GEET). More accurately, his invention is a fuel introduction system that modifies a regular fossil fuel combustion motor to run on mostly water (uses a soda and fuel mixture). It also boasts that "fuel efficiency is increased substantially while dramatically reducing its toxic & greenhouse gas emissions by 90 % or more. Individuals have reported a 20% to 800% increase in fuel efficiency." While I'm not sure what to think of what happened to Panton, he was forcefully committed to a psychiatric ward by the state of Utah for over three years for not agreeing with his attorney. There are claims that he was crazy and claims that he was offered money for his invention and was wrongfully prosecuted after he refused to sell. I don't know what to believe at this point but there's enough coverage out there to make him notable.

I'd be the first to call foul here on the claims but you can find videos all over the internet of the system working. It essentially uses a plasma reaction and a regular motor but he was able to put the two together.

Does anyone know if anyone has attempted to make this page already? I was surprised that I was unable to find anything about the story on Wiki. Search for "Paul Pantone", "GEET", or " Plasma Reactor Motor" and you'll see what I mean. I'll create it unless someone else has something started. OlYellerTalktome 19:44, 4 August 2009 (UTC)

I've read more and it seems that there is no peer reviewed and independent studies that confirm that the GEET is in fact reducing emissions or increasing efficiency. In fact, I now believe that the whole theory is a hoax or a large misunderstanding by someone who didn't really understand what they were doing. Still, an article could be made. Paper is a technology project?

The article on Paper and the articles on specific kinds of paper like Cotton paper mostly have the Wikipedia China project template on the talk page, which is correct, since almost everyone agrees that paper was invented in China, with maybe some dissent advocating Egypt. However, origin and history is one thing, but the technology is certainly another. I could not find a paper related article with any kind of technology project template. I am cautious about merely adding the technology template, but I am unsure what other template would be more specific. Any comments? If editors think that these articles should have the technology template, go ahead and add it to the talk pages. (WP:bb --DThomsen8 (talk) 23:56, 9 August 2009 (UTC)

Clutches and brakes working on electromagnetic principle

This is regarding the common content in the articles Electromagnetic clutch and Electromagnetic brake.

I propose that the articles Electromagnetic clutch and Electromagnetic brake should have general and concise info, and links to another article, which contains the theoretical treatment.

I tried to do this by creating this_revision, and moving the theoretical part (which is actually good and useful) to the article Friction-plate electromagnetic clutch. Similarly, this this_revision could be used for the Electromagnetic brake article.

However, the user User:Oguraclutch repeatedly adds the content back to these two pages, and does not heed warnings on the user's Talk page. Although Oguraclutch's contributions are good, the user is persistent on keeping only it's own contributions in these articles, evidently with the motive of promoting (presumably) its own website, www.ogura-clutch.com, to which it has placed several links in both these articles.

Could someone please help? Maybe we need to lock these articles from being edited to prevent this vandalism?

Tagging scope?

Could I ask exactly what the scope of this project is with regard to article project banner tagging. I ask because the recently promoted featured articles Rolls-Royce Merlin and Rolls-Royce R were tagged with this project only today with no member of this project previously working on these articles to my knowledge. Does the project intend to tag the 970 other aero engine articles or the 12,000 plus aircraft articles and assist with their improvement? If so could editors please have the courtesy of acknowledging the project that primarily supports an article by placing the technology project banner below the maintaining project. We also lost the date range of the talk page archives in the process. It is possible that this was the good faith work of a single editor unconnected with your project. Fairly annoyed that the result of two years hard work by many editors is claimed instantly by another project in a couple of mouse clicks to be honest. Nimbus (Cumulus nimbus floats by) 23:57, 25 November 2009 (UTC)

Hi, I tagged the articles because these engines are technology. Wikiprojects are for finding (good) articles just as much as they are for organizing collaboration. Why get annoyed? Wikipedia is for sharing knowledge, you are in the article history (so much for "hard work ... claimed"), you released your contributions under a free license, and the connection might just lead more people to read the article - especially people who like me weren't aware that Wikiproject Aviation deals with details of propulsion systems. Hekerui (talk) 14:26, 27 November 2009 (UTC)
Hello Hekerui. Not so many months ago, realising that the coverage of aero engines and other aircraft-related terms and technology left a bit to be desired, Nimbus set about creating the Engine Task Force as part of WikiProject Aircraft. Since then he has tirelessly and diligently added, improved, and maintained articles within its scope, and ultimately has been fundamental to bringing two B-class articles to FA status within the last two months; namely the Rolls-Royce Merlin and Rolls-Royce R. If you check through both edit histories for this period as well as the FAC reviews you'll appreciate just how much work he has put into both articles. I know for a fact he has put himself out to obtain sources and images to add to them, incurring some expense in the process, so you can understand why he has posted the above note having seen the tech project banner taking pride of place above the Aviation banner. I also have to say it does seem a bit like cherry picking to me – of all the numerous engine articles you tag the only two FAs! In the spirit of collaboration, if you want to tag and improve an engine article, have a look at the Tumansky R-29 that needs all the help it can get, or if you want innovative technology there's the Exoskeletal engine (ESE). Help in instances like these is always welcome. --Red Sunset 19:00, 27 November 2009 (UTC)
So the two articles on propulsion engines are not in the scope of the technology project because someone put lots of effort into them? "Taking pride"? Pride doesn't belong on Wikipedia and I gave a reasonable rationale. Check WP:OWN. Hekerui (talk) 19:32, 27 November 2009 (UTC)
I'm not disagreeing with you that these two articles fall within the scope of the Tech Project, but with all due respect I do think you've missed the point we're trying to make here – we're all familiar with WP:OWN, and no-one is claiming sole rights to either article, it's more a matter of courtesy and recognition of effort by not replacing the Aviation banner as the founding Project at the top of the page. Following on my other point of why tag just two examples of an engine type – this doesn't make sense to me when the reciprocating engine article that encompasses the general engine design concept has not been tagged by the Tech Project. There are numerous others like Turbofan and Turbojet just to give two examples off the top of my head that would also be good candidates for your Project; and I still think the ESE would be perfect for you, so how about it? --Red Sunset 07:50, 28 November 2009 (UTC)

Seeking reassessment

Technology articles have been selected for the Wikipedia 0.8 release

Version 0.8 is a collection of Wikipedia articles selected by the Wikipedia 1.0 team for offline release on USB key, DVD and mobile phone. Articles were selected based on their assessed importance and quality, then article versions (revisionIDs) were chosen for trustworthiness (freedom from vandalism) using an adaptation of the WikiTrust algorithm.

We would like to ask you to review the Technology articles and revisionIDs we have chosen. Selected articles are marked with a diamond symbol (♦) to the right of each article, and this symbol links to the selected version of each article. If you believe we have included or excluded articles inappropriately, please contact us at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8 with the details. You may wish to look at your WikiProject's articles with cleanup tags and try to improve any that need work; if you do, please give us the new revisionID at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8. We would like to complete this consultation period by midnight UTC on Monday, October 11th.

We have greatly streamlined the process since the Version 0.7 release, so we aim to have the collection ready for distribution by the end of October, 2010. Article alerts

This is a notice to let you know about Article alerts, a fully-automated subscription-based news delivery system designed to notify WikiProjects and Taskforces when articles are entering Articles for deletion, Requests for comment, Peer review and other workflows (full list). The reports are updated on a daily basis, and provide brief summaries of what happened, with relevant links to discussion or results when possible. A certain degree of customization is available; WikiProjects and Taskforces can choose which workflows to include, have individual reports generated for each workflow, have deletion discussion transcluded on the reports, and so on. An example of a customized report can be found here.

If you are already subscribed to Article Alerts, it is now easier to report bugs and request new features. We are also in the process of implementing a "news system", which would let projects know about ongoing discussions on a wikipedia-wide level, and other things of interest. The developers also note that some subscribing WikiProjects and Taskforces use the display=none parameter, but forget to give a link to their alert page. Your alert page should be located at "Wikipedia:PROJECT-OR-TASKFORCE-HOMEPAGE/Article alerts". Questions and feedback should be left at Wikipedia talk:Article alerts.

Message sent by User:Addbot to all active wiki projects per request, Comments on the message and bot are welcome here.

Citation templates now support more identifiers

Recent changes were made to citations templates (such as {{citation}}, {{cite journal}}, {{cite web}}...). In addition to what was previously supported (bibcode, doi, jstor, isbn, ...), templates now support arXiv, ASIN, JFM, LCCN, MR, OL, OSTI, RFC, SSRN and Zbl. Before, you needed to place |id={{arxiv|0123.4567}} (or worse |url=http://arxiv.org/abs/0123.4567), now you can simply use |arxiv=0123.4567, likewise for |id={{JSTOR|0123456789}} and |url=http://www.jstor.org/stable/0123456789|jstor=0123456789.

The full list of supported identifiers is given here (with dummy values):

{{cite journal |author=John Smith |year=2000 |title=How to Put Things into Other Things |journal=Journal of Foobar |volume=1 |issue=2 |pages=3–4 |arxiv=0123456789 |asin=0123456789 |bibcode=0123456789 |doi=0123456789 |jfm=0123456789 |jstor=0123456789 |lccn=0123456789 |isbn=0123456789 |issn=0123456789 |mr=0123456789 |oclc=0123456789 |ol=0123456789 |osti=0123456789 |rfc=0123456789 |pmc=0123456789 |pmid=0123456789 |ssrn=0123456789 |zbl=0123456789 |id={{para|id|____}} }}

Obviously not all citations needs all parameters, but this streamlines the most popular ones and gives both better metadata and better appearances when printed. Headbomb {talk / contribs / physics / books} 03:24, 8 March 2011 (UTC)

Can you help the newcomers with some easy tasks?

Hello,

I am working with the Account Creation Improvement Project (my latest report is here). Now I need your help to find some easy things for newcomers to do.

To guide the new users into working on the articles, we have created a step-by-step process that starts right after the new user has provided a username and a password. Here is the first step. If you click on "technology", for instance, you go to a page where you are asked to state your skills. And based on your choice there, you go to a page that combines these two choices. Here is what it looks like if you choose copyediting.

Right now, that list of articles that needs copyediting in the field of technology, has been created manually by a rather small set of users. That is not a scalable solution. Especially considering that these articles could very well be edited by the time we have created all the lists.

That's why my question to you in WikiProject technology is if you could create four templates for each of the four skillsets: Copyediting, Research & Writing, Fact checking, and Organizing - and keep them updated? We could then transclude those templates in the account creation process.

This is probably one of the most efficient things you can do in this project. Yes, really! There are roughly 5-7000 new users - each day. Around 30% of them start to edit. So if only a sixth of them sees the technology templates, that's around 250 potential new editors in your field - each day. Possibly more. And they want and need something easy to do. Some of them will continue to edit if they think that the tasks are fun and they are welcomed into the project.

So, what do you say about those templates?

I will gladly answer any questions you may have about this question or the project. Best wishes//Hannibal (talk) 16:34, 20 May 2011 (UTC)

A Collection of Predictions for Technology 50 Years in the Future

Recently I have been studying the efforts to predict what technology will look like in 50 years. I have discovered that there is little information in this area that is not either very broad and nonspecific or specified to a degree that people are unable to get the general sense of what life would be like. As I am new to editing Wikipedia I am reluctant to create a specific page on Tecnology in 50 Years seeing as there are some articles on specifics like "Future Car Technologies" or "Technology Forecasting" I would appreciate feedback on whether the creation of such a page would be a good idea. Perhaps a page on multiple specific topics into the future of technology such as on this site, https://sites.google.com/site/technologyin50years/ or perhaps even more specific with Wikipedia's use of links to explain more about topics within topics. This type of a page may be just what is needed to link the many technology pages that already exist together. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mira Wind (talkcontribs) 02:54, 24 January 2012 (UTC)

Article in progress

Hey, all. I'm puttering in userspace on an article about Star Trek's influence on science and technology. Trying to shy away a focus on how they're depicted in the fiction, I'm instead interested in good information about professionals and products that were directly inspired by the franchise. Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Aluminum Ion Battery

Dear tech people: Here's an submission at Afc about a type of battery. Is this a different topic from Aluminium–air battery? —Anne Delong (talk) 16:31, 11 November 2013 (UTC)

Don't think so. The first reference in your submitted article treats them as being two different things. In Al-ion the Al reacts with the electrolyte, in Al-air it reacts with oxygen in the air. SpinningSpark 17:59, 11 November 2013 (UTC)
The Aliminum-air article says that it is not rechargeable. The Aluminum-ion references seem to indicate that this type is rechargeable. This would be a major difference - but maybe the existing article is just out of date. —Anne Delong (talk) 21:21, 11 November 2013 (UTC)

Help a new user out?

Hey, I need some help with an article and by extension, a new user. The article in question is XOLO, which is about an Indian technology company. The user in question is User:PrajayXG. I think that he's the same person as User:XOLOHQ, but this isn't a case of him being a representative for the company. This looks to be just an instance of a younger editor coming onto Wikipedia to write about something he particularly loves and running into the issues that a lot of people tend to have when they first started editing. I don't think that there's any bad or extremely promotional intent here- I think that PrajayXG has good intents here and he's trying to fix things, but he just needs some more guidance. Anyone from the tech WP want to give him a hand? I'm helping too, but I think that he needs someone who is particularly interested in gadgets- especially when it comes down to looking for sources for XOLO. As of January, the popular pages tool has moved from the Toolserver to Wikimedia Tool Labs. The code has changed significantly from the Toolserver version, but users should notice few differences. Please take a moment to look over your project's list for any anomalies, such as pages that you expect to see that are missing or pages that seem to have more views than expected. Note that unlike other tools, this tool aggregates all views from redirects, which means it will typically have higher numbers. (For January 2014 specifically, 35 hours of data is missing from the WMF data, which was approximated from other dates. For most articles, this should yield a more accurate number. However, a few articles, like ones featured on the Main Page, may be off).

Web tools, to replace the ones at tools:~alexz/pop, will become available over the next few weeks at toollabs:popularpages. All of the historical data (back to July 2009 for some projects) has been copied over. The tool to view historical data is currently partially available (assessment data and a few projects may not be available at the moment). The tool to add new projects to the bot's list is also available now (editing the configuration of current projects coming soon). Unlike the previous tool, all changes will be effective immediately. OAuth is used to authenticate users, allowing only regular users to make changes to prevent abuse. A visible history of configuration additions and changes is coming soon. Once tools become fully available, their toolserver versions will redirect to Labs.

If you have any questions, want to report any bugs, or there are any features you would like to see that aren't currently available on the Toolserver tools, see the updated FAQ or contact me on my talk page. Mr.Z-bot (talk) (for Mr.Z-man) 05:29, 23 February 2014 (UTC)

Leaflet For Wikiproject Technology At Wikimania 2014

Please note: This is an updated version of a previous post that I made.

Hi all,

My name is Adi Khajuria and I am helping out with Wikimania 2014 in London.

One of our initiatives is to create leaflets to increase the discoverability of various wikimedia projects, and showcase the breadth of activity within wikimedia. Any kind of project can have a physical paper leaflet designed - for free - as a tool to help recruit new contributors. These leaflets will be printed at Wikimania 2014, and the designs can be re-used in the future at other events and locations.

This is particularly aimed at highlighting less discoverable but successful projects, e.g:

• Active Wikiprojects: Wikiproject Medicine, WikiProject Video Games, Wikiproject Film

• Tech projects/Tools, which may be looking for either users or developers.

• Less known major projects: Wikinews, Wikidata, Wikivoyage, etc.

• Wiki Loves Parliaments, Wiki Loves Monuments, Wiki Loves ____

• Wikimedia thematic organisations, Wikiwomen’s Collaborative, The Signpost

The deadline for submissions is 1st July 2014

For more information or to sign up for one for your project, go to:

Review Load Cell article

Hi All,

I have edited the Talk:Load cell page, and I would like to ask some of you to review it. I would like to improve the current article in a bigger way, but I wouldn't like to mass it up, before someone with more experiences in Wiki editing would take a look at it.

Comment on the WikiProject X proposal

Hello there! As you may already know, most WikiProjects here on Wikipedia struggle to stay active after they've been founded. I believe there is a lot of potential for WikiProjects to facilitate collaboration across subject areas, so I have submitted a grant proposal with the Wikimedia Foundation for the "WikiProject X" project. WikiProject X will study what makes WikiProjects succeed in retaining editors and then design a prototype WikiProject system that will recruit contributors to WikiProjects and help them run effectively. Please review the proposal here and leave feedback. If you have any questions, you can ask on the proposal page or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you for your time! (Also, sorry about the posting mistake earlier. If someone already moved my message to the talk page, feel free to remove this posting.) Harej (talk) 22:48, 1 October 2014 (UTC)

E-cigarette RFC on Vapor vs Aerosol

Since the article has the Technology Wikiproject listed on the talk page I am posting this here. A RFC has been started at E-cigarette. The RFC deals with the use of Vapor, Aerosol, or Mist asking which term is best to describe what comes out of an E-cigarette. Please help by commenting, this could really use comments from uninvolved editors. Sorry about not adding itto the bottom but it kept being added to the white box below.AlbinoFerret 04:55, 19 November 2014 (UTC)

WikiProject X is live!

Hello everyone!

You may have received a message from me earlier asking you to comment on my WikiProject X proposal. The good news is that WikiProject X is now live! In our first phase, we are focusing on research. At this time, we are looking for people to share their experiences with WikiProjects: good, bad, or neutral. We are also looking for WikiProjects that may be interested in trying out new tools and layouts that will make participating easier and projects easier to maintain. If you or your WikiProject are interested, check us out! Note that this is an opt-in program; no WikiProject will be required to change anything against its wishes. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!

Note: To receive additional notifications about WikiProject X on this talk page, please add this page to Wikipedia:WikiProject X/Newsletter. Otherwise, this will be the last notification sent about WikiProject X.

PK drive screws

I'm just trying to find out if this type of fastener is already covered on Wikipedia, I'm not sure if anyone other than Parker Kalon made them or whether there is a generic term for them and if not, whether they would fit better under rivets or under screws? If you're not familiar with them, they are usually very small diameter (2mm dia or less shaft and typically 5mm long or less) with a mushroom or round head that is completely smooth and they were often used for fitting thin metal identity plates to machinery or engines. You hammer them in and they have a quick multi start thread which stops them vibrating loose. Here are some links to pictures. [3] [4]Mighty Antar (talk) 19:47, 24 February 2015 (UTC)

Help with Citrix Products section

Hi there. I've been working on behalf of Citrix to suggest improvements to their article for the past few months. Thus far, I've worked with editors to update the History section and the infobox. A few weeks ago, I posted a note on the Talk page with an updated draft for the article's Products section, but I haven't had a response yet. Since the article falls under the scope of this wikiproject, and the section deals with some highly technical products, I'm hoping someone here might be interested in taking a look. Because of my COI, I will not be making any edits myself, but instead ask that other editors review my work and move it to the live article if they agree with the changes. I'll be watching the Talk page and can respond to any comments or questions editors may have there. Thanks, 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 11:51, 22 April 2015 (UTC)

Create an entry for Active Power please

Hello, My name is David Hamilton and our public relations agency represents Active Power, a global leader in flywheel energy and power technology for mission critical applications. Given our relationship with Active Power, it would be a conflict of interest for us to create a Wikipedia article on their behalf, but with over 4,000 uninterruptible power supply (UPS) deployments worldwide, we feel that Active Power is relevant and notable enough to deserve an entry.

I am requesting that an independent editor create the article. Below is the information I provided on the Requested Articles page here on Wikipedia that includes links to several independent third-party sources.

Active Power, designs, manufactures, sells, and services flywheel-based uninterruptible power supply (UPS) products that use kinetic energy to provide short-term power as an alternative to conventional battery-based UPS products. The company also designs and manufactures modular infrastructure solutions that integrate critical power components into a pre-packaged, purpose built enclosure that can include Active Power’s UPS products as a component. Customers include Verizon Terremark, Caterpillar, HP, Heineken, and Capgemini. Help needed protecting a technology article against attack

I am a technology editor with a very strong and diverse background in technology (BS Chemical Engineering, Masters Information Technology, well read with 500 pages of notes on economic history and the history of technology). I was the main contributor to Industrial Revolution, Economic history of the United States and to other articles such as Electrification, Automation,Mass production, Interchangeable parts, Economic history of the United States and others. My rewrite of Industrial Revolution met good article standards and the topic was elevated to high importance by several of the WikiPjogects that it is in.

I was planning to work on a merger of Productivity improving technologies (historical) with Technology, which from experience with Industrial Revolution I know will this will be a major undertaking. To date no one has interfered with any of my major rewrites. This time I find the source article under attack from a gang of thugs who do not edit the technology field but have a vendetta against me for filing a case against one of their allies. I also suspect they have opposing political views. These people are only here to make my life difficult and have never contributed any content.

Is there a way I can protect these articles and myself from these thugs through WikiProject technology?Phmoreno (talk) 21:35, 3 June 2015 (UTC)

Citation replacement and blogspam from an IP

An IP address has been replacing legitimate sources with ones for "144hzmonitors.com" on several articles I'm watching. They're not even adding new ones, they're just deleting others and replacing them. Can an administrator please help with this? I would revert these edits, but there's a ton of them and they'll probably just come back and do it again. FreeSync and G-Sync have especially both been the subject of these edits.

Proposing deletion / redirection for Citrix Online

Hi everybody. I'm looking for technologically-minded editors with a specific interest in software companies. I'm hoping someone might be able to take a look at what I've proposed over on the Citrix Online article regarding blanking and redirecting that page to the Citrix Systems article. To quickly note: I am working as a paid consultant to Citrix, and I won't be making any edits. Since I believe that Citrix Online doesn't meet WP:GNG and this division of Citrix no longer exists, I'm wondering about the possibility of blanking and redirection and hope editors will be interested to discuss this over here on the article's talk page. Online Age Verification - a new topic

I am thinking about creating a Wikipedia page on the topic of Online Age Verification (OAV). Currently, this term leads to several historical and specialist players rather than proper explanations concerning the issues. The UK Government is going to be bringing in legislation to mandate OAV in mobile web services as part of its child protection initiatives and there will shortly be a new British Standard to be published by BSI that could be implemented in the legislation. There are also issues regarding OAV and the European Audio-Visual Directive which will need to be presented with a neutral point of view. Greetings WikiProject Technology/Archive 1 Members!

This is a one-time-only message to inform you about a technical proposal to revive your Popular Pages list in the 2016 Community Wishlist Survey that I think you may be interested in reviewing and perhaps even voting for:

If the above proposal gets in the Top 10 based on the votes, there is a high likelihood of this bot being restored so your project will again see monthly updates of popular pages.

Further, there are over 260 proposals in all to review and vote for, across many aspects of wikis.

Thank you for your consideration. Please note that voting for proposals continues through December 12, 2016.

WikiJournal of Science promotion

The WikiJournal of Science is a start-up academic journal which aims to provide a new mechanism for ensuring the accuracy of Wikipedia's scientific content. It is part of a WikiJournal User Group that includes the flagship WikiJournal of Medicine.[1][2]. Like Wiki.J.Med, it intends to bridge the academia-Wikipedia gap by encouraging contributions by non-Wikipedians, and by putting content through peer review before integrating it into Wikipedia.

Since it is just starting out, it is looking for contributors in two main areas:

Editors

  • See submissions through external academic peer review
  • Format accepted articles
  • Promote the journal

Authors

  • Original articles on topics that don't yet have a Wikipedia page, or only a stub/start

Request to update Huawei Honor 8's total sales

  Resolved

On behalf of Honor, I've submitted an edit request at Talk:Huawei Honor 8 to add the total sales volume to the article. I cannot edit the article directly because of my conflict of interest, but hope there is a project member here who may be willing to review and implement this simple request. I've suggested specific language, sourcing, and markup. Thanks for your consideration. Inkian Jason (talk) 17:03, 25 January 2017 (UTC)

This edit request has been answered. I've posted two additional requests on the article's talk page, if anyone is willing to help. Inkian Jason (talk) 21:23, 30 January 2017 (UTC)

Draft:iPen - is this a notable subject?

Dear technology experts: This draft about a computer accessory has lots of references, because the gadget was discussed in various tech and gadget magazines when it first came out. However, interest appears to have died away. Is this subject notable enough for an article? If not, should a summary of the content be included in another article, for example Stylus (computing)?—Anne Delong (talk) 05:29, 9 February 2017 (UTC)

Lubrizol edit request

I am posting here to reach editors interested in editing articles about technology-driven companies. Specifically, I have suggested updates to the article about the specialty chemical company Lubrizol. I made an edit request at Lubrizol to replace the article's About section with this draft. I have discussed my draft with Devopam on the Lubrizol Talk page, but we agreed to have others give it a look. I have a conflict of interest as I work for The Lubrizol Corporation. Can an editor, or editors, review the draft, as well as the discussion on the Lubrizol Talk page? Lz maor (Talk · COI--Lubrizol employee) 21:46, 25 January 2017 (UTC)

Merge concepts of "air conditioning" and "refrigeration"? Comments requested

Please see

I think that descriptions of "air cooling" are all the same concept but somehow started to be described in multiples places. I am seeking advice on what can be merged together and where. Blue Rasberry (talk) 16:24, 6 March 2017 (UTC)

What are you proposing? • • • Peter (Southwood) (talk): 18:36, 6 March 2017 (UTC)
Pbsouthwood There is more there but I am going to merge a multi-part fork of the concept of the heat pump/refrigerator. I am posting here because it affects articles read by ~150,000 monthly. If you have comments please follow through the link, thanks. Blue Rasberry (talk) 21:31, 23 March 2017 (UTC)

More Wholesome Intro

I think the beginning of the page should have a more wholesome intro. It does not really give an overview of sports equipment and describe what the article is going to talk about. Maryskijagfan (talk) 12:35, 17 April 2017 (UTC)

Maryskijagfan, I don't think wholesome is the word you are looking for, and I am not sure you are using the right page, as this is not the talk page for sports equipment. • • • Peter (Southwood) (talk): 17:14, 17 April 2017 (UTC)

We – Community Tech – are happy to announce that the Popular pages bot is back up-and-running (after a one year hiatus)! You're receiving this message because your WikiProject or task force is signed up to receive the popular pages report. Every month, Community Tech bot will post at Wikipedia:WikiProject Technology/Archive 1/Popular pages with a list of the most-viewed pages over the previous month that are within the scope of WikiProject Technology.

We've made some enhancements to the original report. Here's what's new:

  • The pageview data includes both desktop and mobile data.
  • The report will include a link to the pageviews tool for each article, to dig deeper into any surprises or anomalies.
  • The report will include the total pageviews for the entire project (including redirects).

We're grateful to Mr.Z-man for his original Mr.Z-bot, and we wish his bot a happy robot retirement. Just as before, we hope the popular pages reports will aid you in understanding the reach of WikiProject Technology, and what articles may be deserving of more attention. If you have any questions or concerns please contact us at m:User talk:Community Tech bot.

Warm regards, the Community Tech Team 17:16, 17 May 2017 (UTC)

RfC Announce: Wikimedia referrer policy

In February of 2016 the Wikimedia foundation started sending information to all of the websites we link to that allow the owner of the website (or someone who hacks the website, or law enforcement with a search warrant / subpoena) to figure out what Wikipedia page the user was reading when they clicked on the external link.

The WMF is not bound by Wikipedia RfCs, but we can use an advisory-only RfC to decide what information, if any, we want to send to websites we link to and then put in a request to the WMF. I have posted such an advisory-only RfC, which may be found here:

Wikipedia:Village pump (policy)#RfC: Wikimedia referrer policy

Please comment so that we can determine the consensus of the Wikipedia community on this matter. --Guy Macon (talk) 21:45, 10 June 2017 (UTC)

Huawei Honor 8 Pro

  Resolved

Over the past few weeks, I've been working with Honor to propose some improvements to the Huawei Honor 8 Pro article. I've submitted an edit request with a suggested infobox and "Specifications" section. I'm looking for a neutral editor to review this simple edit request, which can be found on the article's talk page (I won't edit the article directly because of my COI). I've posted similar requests for help at WikiProject Electronics and WikiProject Telecommunications, but so far no one has replied, so I'm hoping a WikiProject Technology member may be willing to help. Thanks! Inkian Jason (talk) 20:33, 14 June 2017 (UTC)

Verizon Fios Telephone updates

Hello WikiProject Technology watchers. I was hoping to get other editors' input on this edit request at the Verizon Fios Talk page.

I created the edit request in January to clean up and streamline the section on Fios' telephone services. User:Altamel reviewed and declined the request because my draft at the time excluded details on reports of Verizon workers removing copper lines for copper-line phone service in some locations. To take Altamel's comments into consideration, I revised my draft, which you can see here.

I work for Verizon and have a conflict of interest so I'm here asking others to look at my proposal. Can someone review my request and move my draft into the live article if you feel it is neutral and properly sourced? I'm also happy to take suggestions. Thanks so much, VZBob (talk) 17:22, 5 July 2017 (UTC)

Notability for electronic devices (including mobiles)

Hi
Since almost a month now, I have been having discussions about a notability guideline for electronic devices, which resulted in an essay.

Recently, the situation that I was describing came in effect, when an editor created 16 articles for cameras, all of which are being considered for deletion 3 PRoD, and 13 AfD.

The essay is almost finished, but I would like more opinions/suggestions on it. Maybe it will not become an official guideline/policy, but I think it should be treated at the least as an essay. The essay is currently in userspace, if consensus is achieved theb it can be moved in mainspace.

I have posted this same request to a few other talkpages of related WikiProjects, so I request all the editors to put their comments on the talkpage of the essay to keep everything in one place. Here is the essay: User:Usernamekiran/Notability (electronic devices).

Thanks a lot in advance. —usernamekiran(talk) 20:28, 5 July 2017 (UTC)

Nomination of Elijah Daniel for deletion

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Elijah Daniel is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Elijah Daniel (2nd nomination) until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article. Sagecandor (talk) 21:01, 18 July 2017 (UTC)

Edit request to add logo to infobox

  Resolved

I submitted an edit request on the AutoGravity's talk page to add File:AutoGravity logo.png to the infobox. I've been given permission to add the logo myself, but given my conflict of interest, I'd prefer not to edit the article directly. Is there a WikiProject member who can help? Inkian Jason (talk) 15:11, 18 September 2017 (UTC)

The logo has been added, so I am marking this section as resolved. Inkian Jason (talk) 16:49, 18 September 2017 (UTC)
