Split A/C into separate articles?
editI am thinking of splitting the A-C article into two articles, covering the A and C lines by themselves. Please discuss this before a final decision is made.
- I don't feel strongly about it either way. Every C station is also an A station (late nights), so a split would create a lot of duplication. However, the overlap wasn't always the case, so the history of each service becomes a little simpler to describe if the other service isn't included in the same article. - Makes sense. Go for it. --Larry V (talk | contribs) 12:44, 4 August 2006 (UTC)

editIt seems that I stepped into a real morass on this whole template stuff. Can somebody in charge revert the changes that I've made so taht I can get outta the hole I'm in?
Thanks!
A train article problems

<A>
editI think it makes little sense to include <A> on this page outside of perhaps a footnote. <A> is not used on the maps, train signage, or station signage. Therefore we should not claim that it is the designation for the Rock Park A service. A note saying that these are designated by an <A> symbol in the schedule would be appropriate.67.247.23.150 (talk) 02:22, 15 June 2011 (UTC)
- Agree. We put to much emphasis on the symbol here on Wikipedia. The MTA discontinued using diamond symbols to designate rush hour service in 2004. Diamond symbols are only used for the and express services. I do not even think it is necessary to mention the fact that they are designated as in the timetable. It is only used in the timetable as an "eye catcher." Mysteryman557 (talk) 00:12, 28 November 2013 (UTC)
- What else are we going to use to represent rush hour service? Epicgenius (talk) 16:07, 30 November 2013 (UTC)
- Vcohen (talk) 17:46, 30 November 2013 (UTC)
- Epicgenius, we would use the same thing we use to represent rush hour extensions on other services. Vcohen, the appropriate symbol would be since it only serves the Rockaway Park branch in the peak direction. Mysteryman557 (talk) 22:37, 30 November 2013 (UTC)
- You are right. Vcohen (talk) 07:46, 1 December 2013 (UTC)
- By the way, the A schedule uses two special designations: for peak hour trains and (even larger) for the Lefferts Shuttle. I think, both are worth mentioning as being used in the schedule. That is, I am not proposing to use them anywhere, but only to mention that both are used in the schedule. Vcohen (talk) 16:09, 1 December 2013 (UTC)

It is worth mentioning that there is also the following diamnd bullets: and . Epicgenius (talk) 17:53, 1 December 2013 (UTC)
- Do you think any of them are in use? Vcohen (talk) 17:56, 1 December 2013 (UTC)
- The "M" diamond isn't showing up. Anyway, I don't think the diamonds should be completely eliminated. If they have to be used merely in footnotes, then so be it. ---------User:DanTD (talk) 18:32, 1 December 2013 (UTC)
- The "M" is fixed. Vcohen (talk) 18:48, 1 December 2013 (UTC)
- None of those symbols above are used anymore. They do not appear on any maps, schedules, timetables, station signs etc. In the article New York City Subway nomenclature, there is a whole section about diamond services, including use and former use. In popular culture
editI think that the aforementioned section can, with a few references, be put back in rather than being wholly removed. @Doniago and Nikkimaria:, would you like to comment? Epicgenius (talk) 15:57, 21 June 2014 (UTC)
- The section was not wholly removed. References lacking indications of significance were culled. Do you have secondary sources supporting the significance of these references? Nikkimaria (talk) 16:05, 21 June 2014 (UTC)
- I will find some sources soon, when I have time. Epicgenius (talk) 16:48, 21 June 2014 (UTC)
Help me please
editCan someone help me upload this new image from 168th Street about the A train. I REALLY NEAD HELP TO GET it uploaded. It is a good image and it is much better than the one from Broad Channel.
Roldank talk 10:48 25 January 2015 (UTC)
And your point is...? It's just an image. Who cares about which one you think is better? This isn't your site. Nobody cares if you used to work for the Transit Authority. All that nonsensical vandalism just for a damn image? Oh wow. Get over it and move on with your life. It's not that serious. JoesphBarbaro (talk) 22:38, 25 January 2015 (UTC)
Replication/Minutiae
editIs it necessary or intelligent to include minute detail about public transit schedules in Wikipedia, when the info is available in several other WWW/non WWW locations/publications? I think not, and am considering its removal. Thoughts? Tapered (talk) 05:12, 19 June 2015 (UTC)
Article name issues
edit- Title: I ran across this article and saw some of the many others like it. Where to start? While I champion local common naming (with references) there is ambiguity with just "A". "A Train" leads to a disambiguation page that includes this article. It seems appropriate that the title reflect the natural disambiguation of "train" (A train (New York City Subway service)) using the further disambiguation to make it concise. Just "A" might be perfectly normal to someone from New York, like "I took the A to Broad Channel". In an international online encyclopedia it is a poor choice with no meaning outside of an ongoing subject or between to parties already privy to the meaning. A New York City subway service would be a sentence in a normal conversation and it looks like some *person* put parentheses around it as a title by mistake. It is just far more natural to call a cow a cow, a dog a dog, and a train -- a train. I do not know the reliability of the source but this link does show it's use.
- I noticed that someone started a multiple move request that failed. These types of "mass move" requests, other than by consensus derived from comments and project decisions, elicit thoughts of disdain. Mass move requests are just generally not good practice and creates a multitude of problems as one shoe size generally never fits all. However, there can surely be a better naming format than just "A" that would suffice local consensus and fit an online encyclopedia. Otr500 (talk) 14:56, 22 November 2015 (UTC)

Limited A's to/from Rockaway Park
editAccording to the MTA'S GTFS data as of this system pick (occurring from 11/6/2016 to 6/24/2017), the limited A's that serve Rockaway Park terminate at 207th Street in the a.m. rush, and begin at either Dyckman Street or at 168th Street in the p.m. rush. The list should be updated correctly to reflect the stations the Lmited A's serve, which means either all of the boxes that have the station service icons that those A trains stop at should be shaded or removed in their entirety. —Imdanumber1 (talk · contribs · email) 11:00, 28 March 2017 (UTC)
R68A A Train
editBecause the A Train runs an R68A during PM Rush hours, I believe that there should be a picture of the A operating that train. Does anyone agree. And if you are a photographer, could you upload a picture of that? Thank you. --Davidng913 (talk) 03:17, 16 April 2017 (UTC)
- It's either an R68 or an R68A; as there's one B train in the morning that drops out at 145th Street on the upper level and deadheads to 207th Street from there. There's no telling what it could be, so anyone can upload either one or both if it fancies them. —Imdanumber1 (talk · contribs · email) 13:05, 16 April 2017 (UTC)

Sixth Avenue station on the A Train?
editI caught this still frame on IMCDb. I couldn't find any "Sixth Avenue" station that the A train could've possibly gone through. ---------User:DanTD (talk) 19:33, 29 August 2017 (UTC)

Edit warring on lead image
edit@Davidng913: @Epicgenius: Could we please stop edit warring on what the lead image should be and discuss it here?--agr (talk) 16:48, 22 November 2018 (UTC)
- @ArnoldReinhold: I have been trying to resolve this. But there is a stupid IP that keeps on changing the images like a maniac, along with other users that belong to Koov, all which have been blocked. We also need to figure out which IPs and users are being used by him first so we can try to resolve it. If anything, I will do something similar to the Q train article, in which I choose various pictures and set up a poll with them, where we see which picture the various users like best. -Davidng913 (talk) 17:17, 22 November 2018 (UTC)
- Getting a consensus here, by a poll or discussion, on which image to use would make it easier to police the article.--agr (talk) 17:31, 22 November 2018 (UTC)
- @ArnoldReinhold: While I wouldn't use the exact wording Davidng913 had, I agree - the IP/registered users that keep changing the image are sockpuppets of Koov, so we must revert these edits per WP:SOCK. But I also think a poll would be fine, like at the Talk:Q (New York City Subway service) article. epicgenius (talk) 17:35, 22 November 2018 (UTC)

- @ArnoldReinhold: Thanks, I appreciate it. However, I think this might be more of a long-term problem, as per Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Koov/Archive. If the user keeps creating sockpuppets after the protection expires (and I think they will), maybe we should look at longer-term protection. epicgenius (talk) 02:38, 23 November 2018 (UTC)
- Let's see why happens. Protection can be reimposed and extended if necessary. A talk page consensus on what image to use would create a clearer case that the edits are disruptive.--agr (talk) 16:13, 23 November 2018 (UTC)

'History' section
edit"The A train connected Harlem, Manhattan's central African American community, to areas of Bedford-Stuyvesant that provided residential opportunities for African Americans not found throughout the rest of New York City."
Isn't "areas of Bedford-Stuyvesant" an odd way to put it? Might this not be an example of eyeskip, and might the intended phrase be "areas of Brooklyn"?
The cited source is, thankfully, online but is not a great deal of help—partly because, in what seems to be the relevant paragraph, a stray quotation mark makes it unclear where the source's own text ends and the quotations from its own sources begin. Harfarhs (talk) 02:02, 11 January 2019 (UTC)

The R46 image should be the main train image and the R211 image should be moved to where the R46 train image is now since the line is still mostly R46s. Once the R211s make up the majority of the line fleet than the image can be moved back up. But for now there's only one train of R211s on the now so there's no reason why it should be the top image since there's only one R211 train on the now and most trains on the now are R46s. 24.191.191.144 (talk) 03:23, 14 March 2023 (UTC)
