Author
editWhere is the information regarding future episode titles and summaries coming from? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Matthew Massey (talk • contribs) .
- The information was added by various Users. This list was originally included in the Dexter (TV series) article, but I moved it to this list page. Looking at the edit history of Dexter (TV series), the list began with an edit on October 2 2006 by 209.120.170.189. You can view tthe history by clicking here. Somnabot 10:41, 22 October 2006 (UTC)
- Come on people, sign your remarks, and try to be a little bit more helpfull. I think Matthew knew how to search the history. don't know the source of the title's myself. But I think if they are wrong that they will be changed later. --Soyweiser 20:32, 31 October 2006 (UTC)

Synopsis
editAll of the synopsis with the exception of "Seeing Red" were copied word for word from http://www.sho.com/site/dexter/episodes.do - I have removed them. Mrfridays 21:25, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
- Yes, you are right. Sort of. The descriptions you pulled were not ALL posted verbatum. I should know, just look at my contributions to this page. Besides, I would like to note that other TV series share the same practice. By all means, investigate it yourself. I have reverted your edit for the time being, and urge you to take a moment to reword whatever portions of this page you may feel need to be. Thanks in advance. Somnabot 23:11, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
- I went ahead and removed the 3 or 4 that were still verbatim copies and replaced them with original material. I also edited down some of the other ones that read more like recaps than synopsis. Mrfridays 19:35, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
- The current (much shorter) synopses are far better - the old ones gave away far too much information without Spoiler warnings. Thanks for trimming them to reasonable length. MattHucke(t) 22:20, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
- Go Mrfridays! Should we reitterate the long synopses into the articles? Somnabot 00:33, 17 December 2006 (UTC)
Screenshots
editThe supplied screenshots don't really say anything about an episode - mostly they just show Dexter. They should show an essential scene if possible. Wikidicted 23:16, 28 December 2006
- Feel free to make adjustments... Just to prevent a messy cleanup, let me suggest that you upload your new pictures to the current picture locations. Somnabot 21:12, 29 December 2006 (UTC)
Lead paragraph
editWhy was the lead paragraph deleted and considered to be redundant? Most pages which contain links to episode articles all contain a lead (or opening) paragraph. In fact, you need a lead in order to be considered for a fair use candidate. I just don't believe it should have been deleted. Sfufan2005 21:20, 29 December 2006 (UTC)
- The information was already covered on the lead-in page. Ask Mrfridays for more details--he was the one who made the edit. Somnabot 18:16, 8 January 2007 (UTC)
- I think it's pretty self-explanatory. The information that is on the main page was repeated here. This is not necessary. The lead-in page should have that information, not this page. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Mrfridays (talk • contribs) 17:32, 11 January 2007 (UTC).
What happened to the individual summaries and screenshots?
editI am new. What happened to the individual episode summaries and screenshots? I read this page last year and now when I come bakc, it's all different. Can someone explain without being mean? Thanks. 24.85.132.54 21:16, 12 November 2007 (UTC)
With regards to the pictures, it was felt they provided no integral outline to each episode, as earlier documented in previous talk page discussions. With regards to the synopses, they were changed due to being copied verbatim from Showcase's Dexter site, as well as having been judged as being too full of spoilers. While I agreed mentally with the first change, I found the second change to be unneeded. Albeit copying from any site verbatim is a bad practice, altering the synopses to edit out potential "spoilers" is wrong. For shows that have been aired, I'd agree to a synopses being altered, as one would have the material to alter it. However, for upcoming episodes, as no other "synopsis" but an official one would be considered genuine for the likes of an encyclopaedia (as no one but the people who've created the show would know the content), I feel that changing the provided synopses from Showcase is a cop out. I feel that Wikipedia is NOT a place for political/social/any sort of forced correctness, in the realm of "upcoming" events. In other words, Showcase is providing a more accurate and correct synopses for the currently unreleased episodes - and while the users editing this board find that the synopses provided by Showcase may have some sort of spoiler - one must realize that if the official source for the show is allowing such information to be known to the world, then it should be no different on Wikipedia. Of course, there's no place for logic here, at Wikipedia. 70.49.197.53 (talk) 01:12, 29 November 2007 (UTC) Joe Caron
Discussion of leaked episodes
editCurrently there is a section after the list stating how the last two episodes have leaked. I can confirm that this is true, having watched both of them, but I question whether the information is appropriate to this or any article. I am no fan of censorship, but a list of episodes should be just that. Regarding the quality of the info: This is a complex issue that comes up more and more these days, but the fact is that there is no source that passes WP:V for this information, even though individual wikipedians may know it to be fact. The leaked episodes themselves or their torrent links cannot be used as sources, as is clearly spelled out in WP:COPYRIGHT. For an example of a case when such information would be appropriate, see the Harry Potter 7 leak. Massive media coverage of the leak created citable sources, which has not happened here(yet?). In summary, this information is true, but must be excluded both because of inappropriateness for the article and plain vanilla WP:V issues. -₪-Hemidemisemiquaver (talk) 23:05, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
Reworked
editI reworked this today. I fixed the lead, removed the stuff about the title sequence (which belongs in the main article) and re-formated the episode list. Also made it the same color as the infobox in the main article, which I think looks cool.–FunkyVoltron talk 11:22, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

query
editthere are about 3 editors that seem to edit the Dexter episode articles and I am assuming they are watching this page. My question is which episodes are notable enough to merit their own articles besides the two season finales "The British Invasion" and "Do You Take Dexter Morgan?" and the others that received awards "There's Something About Harry" and perhaps "Crocodile"? Nergaal (talk) 17:45, 20 March 2009 (UTC)
re: reply on my talkpage Hi, I read your post on the dexter episodes talk page. In my opinion, every article to which enough production and reception info can be provided merits it's own article. In fact, we're sort of trying to get a first season Good/Featured topic. A Dexter WikiProject has been proposed, so you can sign if you want. I was planning on creating the project in the next few weeks, with a Featured Topic Drive, similiar to the Simpsons WikiProject.
→Then why not make an explicit list of those episodes here until (and if) the WP:Dexter comes online. My opinion is that having a goal similar to the wp:Simpsons is overly-ambitious; for example the wp's of the more popular shows The Office and Family Guy appear to have had people working on such goals, but eventualy the momemtum died and except for the Office topics I have wrapped up they died. To make things easy I would suggest to clearly make a list of episodes that truly deserve an encclopedic article (such as those with critical acclaim or season openers/finales) and then put all of those together into a grand good topic of Dexter episodes. Something similar was done here and I believe it would work fine. Nergaal (talk) 21:32, 20 March 2009 (UTC)
- Maybe, but I don't thinks putting all kinds of episode articles in one topic would be sufficient. For instance, look at "Return to Sender", it didn't receive any awards or stuff like that, it's just an episode. However, there is enough to dell about it to make it achieve GA status, and appear as a DYK on the main page. Partly, I see what you're getting at, but on the other hand, what's wrong with what we're doing right now, we got all the time in the world, and we're just picking articles that we would like to write about. Your idea sounds fine to me, but I think that we should just continue with what we're doing right now, and when we start to slow down, your idea might come in handy. Oh, and thanks for signing the proposal.--Music26/11 11:37, 21 March 2009 (UTC)
Dexter's kill count
editI think the chart of Dexter's kills belongs here, in the main article. People looking for such information would expect to find it here. It is appropriate to put the chart in the list of Dexter episodes as well, or, if you don't like to repeat information, have a link in the beginning of the list of Dexter episodes directing people to this section in this article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Minetruly (talk • contribs) 01:15, 14 April 2009 (UTC)
I agree...the kill count is like the murder counts for The Sopranos in that people look them up because they cannot remember the episode, or simply want to see the list. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.112.173.140 (talk) 21:18, 21 April 2009 (UTC)
WTF? You've got some issues, people. And you shouldn't vent it here on wikipedia. Why should this be in the main article?? It's not like he's some Zodiac killer, it's just random facts. Dexter's not an hour long story about killing people. And what's with the "slide" column, now that's f'ed up. It might be a bit interesting but this is not the place. And that other person: Sopranos (especially) was not about killing people either, and majority of people don't actually remember the episodes by who was just whacked in it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.52.170.197 (talk) 17:42, 3 May 2009 (UTC)
I'm guessing there is some sort of mistake, as there is the 30 slides and then after there is one with (flashback), now that flashback was propably in one of those slides so... Oh but he didn't take a slide from the Ice Truck Killer so that evens it up. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.27.92.93 (talk) 18:59, 10 May 2009 (UTC)
The kill count is appropriate to the main article. The kill count table allows the reader to get an insight into Dexter's character by looking Dexter's selection criteria (e.g. what the person did or why they asked Dexter to kill them). Placing it in with the episodes would not be appropriate, as its purpose is much broader than simply a summary of Dexter episodes. --Bmoshier (talk) 20:51, 17 May 2009 (UTC)
Broadcast history - Paragraph 2
editI'm inclined to make a correction, but came here cuz it's a cited item, even though I think it's flawed. The claim is that Dexter is the first TV series in 20 years (since the Gary Shandling Show, apparently) to be ported from a cable premium channel to a broadcast network. The treatment of Dexter in broadcast is similar to what happened to Stargate SG-1, also from Showtime, and I think the same could be said about Sex and the City from HBO, although that went to TBS and WGN; cable channels. Isn't FOX the fourth broadcast network after the Big 3, or does it somehow not count? Unless there's some nuance about the way the deal was handled that matters to the point being made in this Dexter-specific article, I think the line should be removed, citation and all. Thoughts? -:- AlpinWolf -:- 06:04, 5 May 2009 (UTC)
I agree with what you are saying. Stargate SG-1, also a Showtime original show, was syndicated to the Fox network, a broadcast network, back in 1996. It has continued to do so even with Sci Fi taking over. I also agree with removing that line (in effect the latter part of the complete sentence) completely, since the cited article is incorrect.24.6.181.68 (talk) 18:25, 13 September 2009 (UTC)

The Getaway synopsis
editDo we have to inlude the final spoiler? I think the synopsis should end with the word "price". No need for the big reveal. Seighean (talk) 22:18, 16 December 2009 (UTC)
- Can't even write it on the talk page? Wikipedia contains spoilers. What? Wikipedia is going to conspire to protect a plot secret already revealed? Yes, we have to include Rita's murder. It's arguably the most unsettling new plot development since the revelation of the identity of the Ice Truck Killer. Rita's death has already become the subject of at least one significant story, and before the beginning of next season I suspect the death will be well discussed. Sucks, too; IMHO, Rita was the only complete character on the series. BusterD (talk) 02:35, 17 December 2009 (UTC)
Season 5 Content
editAre there any sources for this information?
Granted, they may indeed be correct, but they seem like fan speculation at this point.
I move they should be taken down. Derekpatterson (talk) 18:17, 15 December 2009 (UTC)
Part of the text read "... she will not return from the dead, nor will as a psychological illusion ...".
I've altered this by deleting "will", but it might be better if it read:
"... she will not return from the dead, nor will she return as a psychological illusion ...".
Freebo
editIt is unclear from this that Dexter killed Freebo in Episode 2.
Issues
editPlease resolve the following issues so that this list will not need to be nominated for delisting at WP:FLRC:
- A number of dead or dubious links.
- A number of raw URLs in the references.
- The lead is a bit out of touch, such as "As of March 2009...", it's now May 2012 so please update it.
- Why is there the odd bit of bold text in the ref titles?
- Don't use mixed date formats for
accessdate
etc. - I do find it odd not having the lead image as a thumbnail, the text that wraps directly below it looks oddly like a weird caption.
- Please ensure the overview table complies with MOS:DTT for accessibility for screen readers.

- I fixed the bold in the refs. Rather than just list the titles of the articles, those who added them also tweaked every series title and randomly bolded. Most cite titles were standard. The rest have been commented on in FLRC. — WylieCoyote (talk) 18:16, 6 August 2012 (UTC)

Season 8
editThere is a reference to TVguide [90] stating the cliffhanger ending for season 8... But the article linked to refers to the cliffhanger of season 7 not season 8. Removing this erroneous tidbid would eliminate the entire season 8 subsection... Season 3 Plot Titles -- Link Errors
editExcept for the first episode of Season 3, "Our Father," none of the titles are links. As a result we cannot read about the episodes. Can't this error be repaired?
