Portable Ops

edit

Why do we not have a section for characters from Portable Ops? There are several introduced, such as Gene, Python, Elisa/Ursula, etc... — Preceding unsigned comment added by 32.178.104.167 (talk) 04:04, 11 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

That's not the only game lacking. The list also lacks the Metal Gear Acid characters.Tintor2 (talk) 01:10, 12 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

An anon above had stated that the characters from this game are omitted from this list. They also pointed out that there are several characters we could add. I'd also like to state that Portable Ops is indeed canon to the Metal Gear series. Someone needs to add a section for Portable Ops and put the characters in it. 134340Goat (talk) 03:48, 26 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

And repeat the same character descriptions every time? We don't need you to remind us about MPO's canonicity, we know that perfectly well, thank you. --Eaglestorm (talk) 04:04, 26 August 2012 (UTC)Reply
What do you mean by repeat them? Also, I brought up the fact that this game is canon because I meant that the characters introduced in this game are more important the characters in the non-canon spin off games, such as Metal Gear Ac!d. 134340Goat (talk) 04:09, 26 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

So should we make a section for it? Like I said, it's an important game in the series. 134340Goat (talk) 04:31, 26 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

I think we should. 71.251.166.213 (talk) 02:45, 29 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

The above issue must be resolved

edit

I apologize in advance if I seem pesky or annoying, but I am not getting any responses for the above section called "Portable Ops". We must add a section for characters in this game. If you disagree, then please state why. 134340Goat (talk) 04:43, 27 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

This is still unresolved. 134340Goat (talk) 08:15, 1 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Please, please, PLEASE respond to this. State why you would or would not add this section. 134340Goat (talk) 20:25, 5 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

If nobody else adds the information, be bold.Tintor2 (talk) 20:48, 5 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
I'm just asking if we should or should not. 134340Goat (talk) 20:51, 5 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
I would say yes, but it should be considered what characters are relevant to the plot in order to avoid wp:undue weight (the article already has 149,719 bytes). There are also more Metal Gear games with new characters including Ac!d, Ac!d2 and Ghost Babel but none of them are listed here.Tintor2 (talk) 03:03, 6 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
Portable Ops has more importance than the Ac!d games and Ghost Babel because those are non-canon spin offs. There are several charcters who first appear in Portable Ops, such as Gene, Cunningham, Elisa/Ursula, Python, and Colonel Scowronski, so we could easily make a section for it. 134340Goat (talk) 03:46, 7 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
Because they are canon it doesn't make them more important. In fact, none of them return in another game unlike some from Ac!d that reappeared in a sequel.Tintor2 (talk) 12:43, 7 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
Then perhaps we chould add Portable Ops in, then make a section dedicated specifically to non-canon spinoffs? Good idea or not? 134340Goat (talk) 19:35, 7 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
I'm sorry, but are you really THAT DESPERATE to see an MPO section here? All you've done so far is quack off on any talk page you can find. --Eaglestorm (talk) 06:11, 9 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
Not like I'm down on my knees and begging, but yes, I'd like to see a section for it. This list just seems incomplete without it. 134340Goat (talk) 17:03, 9 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

So is there a general consensus here or not? A simple "yes" or "no" plus rationale will do, unless we must bring this to a vote. 134340Goat (talk) 20:08, 14 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Merge Sniper Wolf?

Sniper Wolf should not be merged back into the main article for now. Lord Sjones23 (talk - contributions) 01:59, 28 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

I am considering a merge of Sniper Wolf back into the main article. I think the article's scope is limited, and Sniper Wolf was demerged without discussion. Unless we can find more reliable sources, I believe we should merge Sniper Wolf back into Metal Gear. Any comments or objections? Darth Sjones23 (talk - contributions) 16:17, 3 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

The article does look small and it was demerged without discussion.Tintor2 (talk) 16:22, 3 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

It's Sniper Wolf, also no. --Niemti (talk) 16:28, 3 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for that clarification. I kept on searching for "Shadow Wolf", and the only thing coming up was a page for some finnish musician... Sergecross73 msg me 16:34, 3 August 2012 (UTC)Reply
"Shadow Wolf" was an error in my comment, and it has been fixed. My apologies for my minor recklessness. Also notified WT:VG of this discussion. Darth Sjones23 (talk - contributions) 16:36, 3 August 2012 (UTC)Reply
WP:VG notification is at WT:VG#Merge discussion. Hopefully, we should have more editors commenting on this matter. Darth Sjones23 (talk - contributions) 16:58, 3 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

And by no I mean don't. No more reliable sources are even needed at all, because it's already complete (unless someone wants to check some reviews for what they said, but that's not me). Or paper magazines for something from before 2006 and especially from 1996 (or 1997, for awards), but I don't really see any urging need for that neither because it's more than enough already . --Niemti (talk) 16:41, 3 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

The article needs some resources that are not based on Top 10 style lists. So far, the article's scope is limited and with one paragraph in the lead, a limited creation section, and no game quotes, it still does not meet the criteria of GA or FA. Darth Sjones23 (talk - contributions) 17:11, 3 August 2012 (UTC)Reply
I didn't know what "still does not meet the criteria of GA or FA" is to do with your "Merge Sniper Wolf?", but you can elaborate on that. --Niemti (talk) 18:32, 3 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

But speaking of it, Psycho Mantis has loads of reception. I just never liked him, but maybe someone else does. --Niemti (talk) 16:52, 3 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

I don't know. There are an awful lot of third party sources in the reception section for me to argue in favor in need of merging. However, a lot of the sources aren't really used very well. Quotes like "this character takes a special place in our hearts." doesn't serve much of a purpose. I kind of wonder if things were cleaned up some, with some more meaningful quotes, if it wouldn't be in better shape. (I don't know for sure though, I haven't gone to check the sources to see if there's much else to pull from them, and I tend to stay away from working on Character type articles very much for the very reason that there seems to be so much disagreement as to what the threshold is for notabilty with these characters.) Sergecross73 msg me 17:33, 3 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

But I know. Also there's a lot of unused character exposition in this scene so someone might transcribe it and use for sources. (Here I also wonder what "A Kurd? So thats why you're called Wolf." might mean, because I have no idea. No, "Kurd" is not "wolf" in Kurdish or Arabic for that matter. Maybe some mythology / national ethos, like with Chechens, but I don't know.) --Niemti (talk) 18:02, 3 August 2012 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose - while I hate to violate WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS which everyone here is so passionate about, I think the article is being judged waaaaaaaaaaay too harshly. Take a look at the large number of comic book character articles; most don't ha44534543534534ve reception sections at all. I'm NOT saying that's a good thing, but... Really? This article has good references, good reception, good appearances, a good layout... It's actually pretty good and deserves to stay. CyanGardevoir (used EDIT!) 22:11, 3 August 2012 (UTC)Reply
    • No, I know what you mean. Part of the reason I was suggesting we come up with specific guidelines for VG character articles at WP:VG is that sometimes it seems character articles are held to an unnecessarily high level of scrutiny that goes beyond the GNG. (However, I do think the opposite is probably more of a problem too, with people thinking "Oh, Character X has been around in the background in three games now! Surely it's time someone points this out in the form of it having its own article!" ) Sergecross73 msg me 16:18, 6 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

OK, close it already. Btw, it's B now. --Niemti (talk) 18:15, 14 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

A new article dedicated to the Patriots?

edit

Hi,

I have played a few Metal Gear games. I think "the Patriots" deserve a special article here, as they were a significant influence in the plots. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dajo767 (talkcontribs) 07:44, 21 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

Why do Big Boss and Naked Snake have seperate sections?

edit

Big Boss and Naked Snake are the same character, just with different codenames. So why do they have seperate sections? Heart of Destruction (talk) 10:39, 7 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

Removed Naked Snake's section. For some reason, users tend to divide each section whenever a new name is given to the characters similar to "Liquid Ocelot".Tintor2 (talk) 15:53, 7 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

Meryl Silverburgh as a main MGS2 character?

edit

Meryl is listed in the chart as "main" in MGS2 when, from looking up transcripts, she plays no role in that game, outside of the non-canon, optional Snake Tale missions which are only in Substance, which I think would qualify her for either "guest" or "recurring". I have never played the updated version so you must be right. Be bold.Tintor2 (talk) 20:14, 1 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
