no offense, but if you look at the after of your edit, it looks pretty screwed up. Change the titles themselves, one by one and not one large (and slightly strange) revert. Also, i strongly feel that the image caption is perfectly encyclopedic the way i have it. This is a new year, and i really don't want to fight. Happy New Year. dposse 05:24, 1 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Then how exactly did we get two "youth" sections after your revert? How was half of the infomation missing from the article? It may be my tired eyes, but that's what i saw. I'll make your edits, although i'd feel more comfortable if we discussed it on the talk page first. dposse 05:38, 1 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

File:1953 S Novym Godom.jpg
Happy New Year! (Ukrainian: З Новим Роком!, Russian: С Новым Годом!). I wish you in 2007 to be spared of the real life troubles so that you will continue to care about Wikipedia. We will all make it a better encyclopedia! I also wish things here run smoothly enough to have our involvement in Wikipedia space at minimum, so that we can spend more time at Main. --Irpen

Sourced

edit

Would you be kind enough to inform me what you mean by reverting my link to the arms to Iraq page? In your motivation you insist that it is unsourced, which would seem to be wrong since it I've linked to the page where the quotation comes from. I'm also interested in what periods you want me to divide the figures in? As a tentative suggestion I could calculate the values for the periods 1973-1979, 1980-1982, 1983-1988. Fair use rationale for Image:Kennan1990.jpg

edit
  This file may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Kennan1990.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. When you use a generic fair use tag such as {{fair use}} or {{fair use in|article name}}, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. BigDT 13:59, 5 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

If you are going to redirect this article, could you at least redirect it to a page that deals specifically with the death toll of communism, instead of the generic criticisms of communism page?

Communism

edit

Hi 172, thanks for your note. I don't wish to get re-involved with anything to do with communism at Wikipedia - the task of dealing with the CPW is hopeless under the current structure. That's why as soon as Larry Sanger's new project Citizendium gets going, I will probably leave Wikipedia altogether. Sadly, you will not be able to follow me there since editors are required to edit under their real names. Adam 05:26, 22 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Saddam Hussein image

edit

Hello,

no problem about your image, as far as I'm concerned. I had been trying for two days to find a suitable image for Saddam Hussein (I even included the one you used), only to be continually reverted and told about the rules of "free/fair use/whatever images". I had found a public domain image, but your is admittedly better, so if you're positive that it fits the wikipedia rules, no problem for me. I was just trying to replace the "bearded Saddam" picture, which I found unsuitable for the top box. I'll probably post mine somewhere else on the article. :) Max Thayer 07:58, 24 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

You deleted "Juche" on the grounds that you don't know for any major encyclopedia or sourcebook which uses that term in its entry on Communism. Do "Left communism", "Council communism" and "Anarchist communism" satisfy that criteria? -- Vision Thing -- 19:54, 24 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Well, there should be clear criteria for inclusion. If "Juche" is excluded those three should be excluded too, or the template becomes too unbalanced. -- Vision Thing -- 12:07, 3 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Regimes and forms of government

edit

Hi 172. Indeed I am interested in the subject of semidemocratic regimes and democratic transitions. I must confess, however, that I'm layman on these issues; my field of study at university was economics (though I did do a course on Political systems of the Third World, which focussed mostly on Islamic countries though). Still, if you can recommend some lecture, I would be very glad. Luis rib 00:06, 28 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Knox.jpg)

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Knox.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Capitalism and Scott refs

edit

In the history of the article Capitalism you assert the importance of references to Scott. " 09:31, 16 February 2007 172 (Talk | contribs) (rv nonsense by RJII/ICWT. The removal of the citation of Scott on grounds that there is no page number borders on vandalism. The source is an Oxford dictionary. Entries are alphabetical.)" Could you make the "(Scott 2005)" notations into reflist footnotes indicating what article in A Dictionary of Sociology is being referenced? For example, "(Scott 2005)" occurs in the sentence: "Mercantilism was a system of trade for profit, although commodities were still largely produced by non-capitalist production methods (Scott 2005)." Is the reference to the article on "Mercantilism", or "production methods" or "non-capitalist production methods"? I am making the request so that notes in the article are uniform and of maximum utility, regardless of the level of understanding of the user. --Bejnar 17:10, 16 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Scott refs

edit

I also note that Scott is a tertiary reference source. Tertiary sources are fine for some material, and I do regard Scott as essentially reliable, but would some of the citations that are currently to Scott be better, i.e. more useful, if they were to a secondary source instead? --Bejnar 17:10, 16 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

I have recently noticed the activities of User:Billy Ego. He claims to be a fascist, but follows the same editing pattern of claiming that fascism is socialist that has been characteristic of RJII in the past. Image:JohnH.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:JohnH.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Why?

edit

[6] > why do you say this picture is irrelevant? It was included in a section untitled "Criticism of and opposition to Mugabe" so it's not irrelevant to show a demonstration against him. It's totally neutral to show a demonstration. It would have been irrelevant if it was written something like "fair demonstration against Mugabe's crimes" under it but it wasn't. Moreover, there aren't many pictures in this article so I think such a picture was welcomed. So I am asking you better arguments/explanations before I ask other people's opinion. As a professional historian, your input on this short article is highly appreciated: it uses 1911 EB and 19th century sources to claim 'massacres' and such; I think it justifies the tag that indicate problems with reliability and neutrality, but some users claim 'those sources are fully reliable' and the article needs no more updating nor references.-- Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus | talk  17:07, 23 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

With all due respect, as you seem to have had a large hand in what I consider a well-written article, there is no reason for me to go through five pages of archives before submitting a suggestion. I could just as easily have added the infobox without asking you, but I asked out of consideration.

Non-free use disputed for Image:Li Peng.jpg

edit
  This file may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Li Peng.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read carefully the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content and then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 04:01, 6 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Unspecified source for Image:Hung-wu.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Hung-wu.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Father Goose and I (WikiLen) have developed competing versions for a possible guideline on relevancy. I note you have previous participated at this project. Your contributions would be timely now.

Fair use rationale for Image:Slovo-joe.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Slovo-joe.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Image Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading Image:Iraq,_Saddam_Hussein_(222).jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Abu badali (talk) 16:03, 28 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Replaceable fair use Image:Russiaduma.jpg

edit

Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Russiaduma.jpg. I noticed the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.

Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if not used in an article), per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. —Remember the dot (talk) 00:55, 28 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
