Suspected edits of Daniel Dunga who removed the LTO verified licence plate.

To whom it may concern,

Daniel Dunga who posted the disruptive edits of History of vehicle registration plates of the Philippines who already removed the verification of LTO license plates series. Here's the following LTO license plates has officially verified in NCR and Region III:

CBO 1001-CBO 9999 (Region III)

NHP 1001-NHP 9999 (NCR)

NKJ 1001-NKJ 9999 (NCR)

Daniel did not receive the inbox messages but hopefully to permanent block Daniel Dunga who suspected the article due to incomplete and repetitive of removal edits to verified the LTO license plates as soon as possible.

@Jon2guevarra
I see no reasons for administrator intervention at this time. This appears to be a content dispute. If you disagree with this user's recent contributions, you are free to revert their edits and leave a message on the article talk page explaining why, per WP:BRD. Just be sure to stay within the confines of WP:3RR. See also WP:DR for further suggestions on how to handle disagreements with other editors. User:Rustylad31

Hi, not sure if I'm allowed to step in and edit sock templates and categories directly, as a non-admin, but the master account for Rustylad31 is Bigboss19923. Rustylad21 was just the most recent sock, I namechecked it at AIV to emphasise the obviousness.

Thanks for applying the block! Belbury (talk) 18:28, 5 October 2024 (UTC)

@Belbury Thanks. I will amend the template. -Ad Orientem (talk) 18:30, 5 October 2024 (UTC)

Triangleprecinct

Hi there, in case you are still around and have time (do prioritise packing your bags, though; this can wait), I don't think that what you've done re User:Triangleprecinct is right. I blocked that user for a user name violation. The template clearly says that such a user has two options:

  • "create a new account with a different username", or
  • "If you prefer to change the username of this account, you may do so by adding the following text to the bottom of your user talk page"

Hence, if such a user chooses the first option, their new account isn't a sockpuppet. Schwede66 23:02, 8 October 2024 (UTC)

@Schwede66 Ok I will unblock them. Thanks for the heads up. -Ad Orientem (talk) 00:22, 9 October 2024 (UTC)

IP Ban

Hello. Ive noticed today that ive been IP Banned for my edits. I found out when my older brother was trying to make an account. I apologise if I sound desperate, but I will never touch any page on Wikipedia and never let myself add information without any proof. I hope I can convince you that this will never happen again. Thank you,

Tomos.wh Tomos.wh (talk) 07:27, 9 October 2024 (UTC)

@Tomos.wh Your account is not currently blocked. As I do not know what IP you are using (please don't post that here) I can't comment on the specifics. However, it is possible that it may be caught in a range block due to widespread disruption across a number of IPs. If someone in your household is trying to create an account and unable to do so, tell them to read and follow the directions here. Best regards... -Ad Orientem (talk) 13:41, 9 October 2024 (UTC)

Disruptive page creations

After your recent block of 2409:4043::/33, I rolled back many of their edits on article-space pages, only to discover they have created many pages, mostly User talk pages, including some that look like promotion. I wasn't sure if I should request deletion or do something else (note that they are many months old), so I wanted to bring this to your attention.

All edits of the IP range that are page creations. Rusty 🐈 14:00, 13 October 2024 (UTC)

@Rusty Cat I will have a look. -Ad Orientem (talk) 14:13, 13 October 2024 (UTC)
@Rusty Cat I've looked at the more recent ones and deleted a few and blanked some others that looked like test edits. Honestly, I don't think it's worth the time to go through all of them. I only found a couple pages that looked like spam. If you want to go through them feel free. You can just blank anything that looks disruptive. That IP range has made almost no constructive edits. -Ad Orientem (talk) 14:44, 13 October 2024 (UTC)

Disruptive user with ip

Hey. You've blocked this ip for disruptive editing [1]. The ip also uses HeydarISm account which they admit here [2] and here [3] (btw they say they forget password but continue editing with that account). Anyway, post your block, both with his account and IP, he continued disruptive editing; he WP:OR edited to push his POV while ignoring MOS:NATIONALITY: [4], [5], removed correct due nationalities that didn't line up with his POV: [6], [7], while simultaneously added inappropriate WP:OR nationality that suited his POV again disregarding due weight and MOS:NATIONALITY: [8], [9], [10], [11], [12], [13], [14].

All this post block and already having been warned about the manual of style on their account's talk page [15]. I think the user has a tunnel vision for editing, ignores MOS, and pushes their POV no matter what despite MOS, weight, warnings and blocks. AntEgo (talk) 11:19, 13 October 2024 (UTC)

@AntEgo The IP's block expired more than 10 days ago. So they are not evading a block right now. Their most recent edit was two days ago. While some of their edits have been disruptive, this is too stale for admin action. I will leave another warning on their talk page. If you see them start again let me know and I will block them. -Ad Orientem (talk) 14:20, 13 October 2024 (UTC)
Well looks like he's back again to WP:OR mos:nationality violations [16], [17], [18]. AntEgo (talk) 11:09, 17 October 2024 (UTC)
@AntEgo Reblocked x 1 month. -Ad Orientem (talk) 14:59, 17 October 2024 (UTC)

Question about requesting an article to be protected

So I noticed you were able to add an auto confirm protection to Ben Davis. I wanted to ask how I can request an article to be protected, or if that is even possible? Thanks in advance. A person of sorts (talk) 02:04, 18 October 2024 (UTC)

Hi A person of sorts. You can request page protection at WP:RFPP, or you can talk to an individual admin if you know they are online. What page do you have concerns over? -Ad Orientem (talk) 02:15, 18 October 2024 (UTC)
Oh no, I don't have any issues. It was Ben Davis (journalist) which was being super vandalized, but it is now protected. I just wanted to see how I could make admins aware of the problem.
On another note, I wanted to ask about fixing vandalism: If there is like three edits in a row of all vandalism, and I want to remove all three edits in one move to the edit before all the vandalism, how would I go about doing that? I've been reverting each manually but it's very tedious. A person of sorts (talk) 02:20, 18 October 2024 (UTC)
@A person of sorts You can go to the page history and click on the diff for the last good version of the page. It will show side by side that version and the one immediately preceding it. Above the diff will be an option that says "restore this version" in brown lettering. By clicking on that you will roll back all edits that came after it. If you don't currently have it, you should consider activating Wikipedia:Twinkle. It is hugely helpful in more ways than I can count. -Ad Orientem (talk) 02:26, 18 October 2024 (UTC)
Ok awesome I will download that. Thank you. A person of sorts (talk) 02:30, 18 October 2024 (UTC)

@TheEagle107 I am again refusing the claim against me. I have given an explanation here (and someone have checked it). You would not find any similarities between myself and Blocked user Lazy-restless except the creation of Arabic in Islam article. I am regularly contributing on Bengali Wikipedia on Islam related articles, even on english wikipedia I have created articles like Hadaiq e Bakhshish and Muhaddith (though I am not the creator of the second one, I am the top contributor) before the creation of Arabic in Islam. I also have no connection with Tanvir Rahat or Tanvir Sdq. It is true that our usernames are similar, but this is purely coincidental. The name 'Tanvir' is quite popular among Bangladeshis, so it is not unusual for there to be multiple users with that name on Wikipedia. However, I have no relationship with those users and no similarity either. Tanvir 360 (talk) 06:59, 19 October 2024 (UTC)
@TheEagle107 I came here after seeing myself tagged, and I was a little surprised to see that you are counting me as a fake account of another editor. For your information, I have been editing on Wikipedia since 2023. The article you claimed was created by me is about a book that is very popular in Islamic communities in Bangladesh in recent times, and I felt that the article should be on English Wikipedia. The book is also widely popular in the Arab region. Otherwise, I have no connection with the other two editors and do not know them. Tanvir Rahat (talk) 05:51, 19 October 2024 (UTC)
@TheEagle107 It sounds like this has been looked at by one or more CUs and whatever they found was not actionable. Your vigilance is appreciated. -Ad Orientem (talk) 15:37, 19 October 2024 (UTC)

Semi-protect San Diego

Please semi-protect San Diego indefinitely like what you did to Atlanta. Reason is persistent vandalism by a VOA (vandalism-only account) adding “man who dropped an egg” and “Sandy Eggo”; At least 10 previous protections including an indef which actually lasted 8 1/2 years (4/4/2012-12/26/2020). That’s enough! 2603:8080:D03:89D4:D406:99F6:B4C2:6570 (talk) 20:36, 19 October 2024 (UTC)

I don't think it's justified. Since the page was unprotected, there has been some sporadic vandalism. But over the last year, most of the IP edits look constructive. Atlanta was getting hit quite a bit harder when I protected the page. -Ad Orientem (talk) 22:24, 19 October 2024 (UTC)
Also, user’s indef blocked, so no need for semi 2603:8080:D03:89D4:D406:99F6:B4C2:6570 (talk) 23:10, 19 October 2024 (UTC)

Sorry guys, I didn't realize this was a whole can of worms I was cracking into... RachelTensions (talk) 03:47, 22 October 2024 (UTC)
@RachelTensions (talk page watcher) I know little to nothing of the situation, but let me assure you that most of Wikipedia is not a can of worms. I have, however, noticed that Wikipedians tend to have weirdly strong opinions on music. I dream of horses (Hoofprints) (Neigh at me) 03:52, 22 October 2024 (UTC)
@RachelTensions No need for an apology. Sometimes people just need a friendly reminder that this is a collaborative project. This sort of thing happens all the time and usually it resolves itself without too much unpleasantness. -Ad Orientem (talk) 03:53, 22 October 2024 (UTC)
Looking into this editor's history I definitely see the WP:OWN issues... these diffs (the edit summaries in particular) about having to fix things that other editors "ruined" and made "visually appalling" gave me the ick.
But anyway, all I wanted was input from informed editors to form a consensus on a content dispute, didn't expect interpersonal issues. RachelTensions (talk) 03:59, 22 October 2024 (UTC)
Well this one seems to be a whole can of worms with a backstory that I unintentionally looped people back into  :-) RachelTensions (talk) 03:55, 22 October 2024 (UTC)
@RachelTensions Well, like Ad Orientem said above, sometimes people just need to be reminded to collaborate, so hopefully that's all it takes.   I dream of horses (Hoofprints) (Neigh at me) 03:57, 22 October 2024 (UTC)
For what it's worth, I don't know how many chances we want to give this person, as there are many more examples beyond the ones that we've pointed out so far of them being totally content to engage in edit wars without any fear or hesitation and just having the worst attitude towards other editors in general (even in the aforementioned discussion, With that out of the way, do you mind if I ask why you, a Kpop-focused editor, suddenly took interest on Coldplay? More specifically on making them look like bad? – like, seriously...). I just feel deep down that their attitude isn't going to change, the way things have been going. RachelTensions, I'll respond properly back at the talk page (was on my break at work, so didn't have a lot of time to respond beyond just adding my two cents and meant to clarify that I'd add more later), and even here I wasn't intending to create a whole other discussion, but yeah, unfortunately this is the result of a continuation of some pretty disappointing behaviour, regardless of how well-intentioned they might be. 4TheWynne (talk contribs) 09:36, 22 October 2024 (UTC)
If their problematic editing in this subject area continues, then likely the best remedy would be a topic ban. However that is not something I can impose unilaterally. You would need to open a discussion and request at WP:ANI. -Ad Orientem (talk) 00:43, 23 October 2024 (UTC)

Are you back, and adminning?

Invitation to participate in a research

Hello,

The Wikimedia Foundation is conducting a survey of Wikipedians to better understand what draws administrators to contribute to Wikipedia, and what affects administrator retention. We will use this research to improve experiences for Wikipedians, and address common problems and needs. We have identified you as a good candidate for this research, and would greatly appreciate your participation in this anonymous survey.

You do not have to be an Administrator to participate.

The survey should take around 10-15 minutes to complete. You may read more about the study on its Meta page and view its privacy statement .

Simcha Jacobovici page

Hi Ad Orientem,

First of all, I'd like to apologize for the edit warring on Simcha Jacobovici's page. I am relatively new to editing on Wikipedia and should have researched better ways to resolve the conflict.

I would like to state that I do have a conflict of interest. I have worked for Simcha for over 20 years. Having said this, I do believe it is an advantage as I know what is true and what is false on the page. I also don't believe that any of my edits were "vandalism". There is inaccurate information on the page that I was trying to correct.

I did try to contact GenoV84 on their talk page. I never received a response and only today did I notice that what I wrote has been removed. Hopefully you can help. If not, please point me in the direction I need to go to resolve this.

As for the edits that I was trying to make, originally there were three, but now I just need your help with two of them.

First change being the opening paragraph. I don't believe that pseudo-archeologist and pseudo-historian should be included here as this is just a matter of opinion and not fact. While some people don't agree with the conclusions in some of Simcha's films/shows[1][2] as cited i.e., the late Amos Kloner and Eric Cline, others do agree.[3][4].

One of the books that is cited against Simcha “The Tomb of Jesus and His Family?: Exploring Ancient Jewish Tombs Near Jerusalem's Walls” edited by Professor James Charlesworth was the proceedings of a conference inspired by Simcha’s film! In its opening paragraph, Prof. Charlesworth says that the one topic for debate is “evaluating the Talpiot tomb in context” and the claim made “on the Discovery Channel that the tomb of Jesus, Mary Magdalene and their son had been recovered in Talpiot[5]. The paper on “The Authenticity of the James Ossuary and its possible link to the ‘Jesus Family Tomb’” by Drs. Amnon Rosenfeld, Howard R. Feldman and Wolfgang E. Krumbein, concludes “that the James ossuary exhibits the same geo-chemical fingerprints as the Talpiot cave…adding this ossuary…to the cluster of names found in this tomb has a great statistical weight. It raises the calculated odds (Feuverger 2008) in a combined probability equation…from 1 in 1600 to a compelling level or certitude that it is really the historic holy family tomb”.[6] Other academics cited in the book spoke in a similar vain. Eldad Keynan concluded that Simcha’s thesis on the Talpiot tomb “cannot be totally dismissed as an option[7] and Andrew V. Sills concluded that Simcha’s thesis “should be taken seriously and studied further”.[8] The list goes on.

It is unfair to cite two negative papers as if they are the objective truth, while ignoring the positive papers and the fact that the majority of scholars concluded that Simcha’s thesis needs further studies.

Having said this the original paragraph, before it was changed on May 28th, was based on facts:

Simcha Jacobovici (/ˈsɪmxə jəˈkbvɪ/; born April 4, 1953) is a Canadian–Israeli journalist,[9][10] documentary filmmaker[10] and New York Times best-selling author.[11]

I think this paragraph should replace what is currently there. I even tried to keep the pseudo-archeologist and pseudo-historian on the page under the "Controversies" section where I believe it is a better fit.

The second change I would like to make is the first paragraph under "Early Life". It states that Simcha's parents emigrated to Israel aboard the MV Struma. They were never aboard the ship. Nowhere in the referenced article does it say this and even the Wikipedia article on the MV Struma says that the ship was torpedoed while carrying the refugees and only one person, David Stoliar, survived. This is another change I tried to make but was reverted for "vandalism". (By the way, Simcha’s parents emigrated to Israel in 1948 and in 1952 on separate boats and obviously did not die on the Struma because they had two children, Simcha and his sister Sara).

As you can see from the above, I am not trying to vandalize the page. I am simply trying to make it as factually correct as possible while trying to keep everyones edits (fact based or opinion based) on the page.

Thank you for taking the time to read this very lengthy post and providing any help possible.

Naustin522 (talk) 20:22, 5 November 2024 (UTC)

@Naustin522
We do not determine what is and is not true. We repeat what is reported in reliable sources. If there is a difference of opinion in those sources it is noted while give due weight to the consensus position. Please see WP:TRUTH. You may propose any changes you wish to make on the article talk page where they can be reviewed and discussed by other editors. As I am involved here in my capacity as an administrator it would be inappropriate for me to take sides in a content dispute. You can also see WP:DR for helpful hints on handling disagreements with other editors. I will append a template to your user talk page with some useful links to our policies and guidelines as well as tips for constructive editing. Best regards...-Ad Orientem (talk) 21:20, 5 November 2024 (UTC)
@Ad OrientemThank you for your quick reply. I will go back to the article talk page and propose these changes there. Naustin522 (talk) 21:48, 5 November 2024 (UTC)

Tell me...

Why is it that everytime I report someone being transphobic, it's always you who comes out and declines to block? LilianaUwU (talk / contributions) 06:12, 6 November 2024 (UTC)

I can't comment on any specific previous report. But I do recall having declined a number of your reports for a variety of reasons. In this case, you are assuming bad faith on rather thin evidence. Not everybody is familiar with our guidelines at MOS:GENDERID and not everybody considers noting someone's birth name as ipso-facto evidence of bigotry. No warning was given, a frequent issue with your reports, nor any other effort made to communicate with the IP to explain how we do things here. I have left a message on their talk page with a link to the relevant guideline. If this is a recurring problem, re-report or drop a line here if you know I am online. -Ad Orientem (talk) 06:54, 6 November 2024 (UTC)

Edit summary

Hi, about a recent vandal IP that you blocked. Can this ES be purged (which used a highly offensive slur against me). Thanks. Gotitbro (talk) 07:01, 9 November 2024 (UTC)

Political positions of JD Vance

Hi. As an uninvolved admin, can you ECP this page under CTOP as well? JD Vance#Political positions draws from it, and vandalism of a Nazi flag on the subarticle showed up on the main one. – Muboshgu (talk) 20:35, 9 November 2024 (UTC)

Weird question

If you're not too busy with admin-ing, I'd like to ask you if you'd spare a minute to look over an article I've recently been improving with hopes of placing it in front of the next good article reviewer; Minecraft: The Story of Mojang. Recently, I've been asking editors whom I am relatively familiar with to look at stuff, so I thought, "hey, maybe I pester this one admin who I run into from time to time to once over my pet project" that I started working on maybe a month ago.

Also, if you're still reading this on November 11, happy Veterans Day, and otherwise, thank you for being that admin who I run into literally everywhere in contentious topics who helps make order of things. Truly, your work is appreciated! BarntToust 02:15, 12 November 2024 (UTC)

@BarntToust With the very large caveat that I know absolutely nothing about Minecraft, I will try and have a look when I have a few minutes. Thanks for the kind words. -Ad Orientem (talk) 02:51, 12 November 2024 (UTC)
@Ad Orientem Hey, perfect pre-test; see if someone who isn't familiar with Minecraft can skim through and not be absolutely baffled by the article. You're just the sort of disinterested fellow I was looking for, actually! Thanks all again. BarntToust 13:32, 12 November 2024 (UTC)
@BarntToust Ok, I've taken a look and my impression is that this is a solid article. It's well written with links wherever someone might need something to be explained in more detail and the referencing is excellent. Honestly I am having a hard time finding anything to nit pick over. I think I saw a couple sentences in succession that started with the same word, "the" or "they." Good job. -Ad Orientem (talk) 18:19, 12 November 2024 (UTC)
Thank you for finding the time, and thank you for your appraisal! I'll look at the repetition of "the/they". Have a great one. BarntToust 18:49, 12 November 2024 (UTC)
