February 2023

I've started the two name change requests which have requested with John Stauer, and I was wondering if you could look in and leave a support-oppose comment. His approach seems the easiest way to unravel what you called the "difficult" situation there. This is the first of the 2 Talk pages with the move requests: Talk:Timeline of the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine: phase 4. ErnestKrause (talk) 21:52, 22 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi Ernest, I'm sorry I haven't responded yet. I took a look at the proposal and I'm surprised that it has encountered so much opposition. Slatersteven is a user whose name I recognize as one who says meaningful and insightful things. I need to read up on the sources more in depth to understand why we have this phase 4 / phase 3, later operations issue. Maybe there should be a more comprehensive organizational proposal. I recognize you are seeking a compromise and that is admirable. I'll try to look at it when I have some time. Andre🚐 01:18, 24 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

FA ANI

Hi Andrevan, I am not sure if you saw my response to you at ANI but I did not take offense to your comments about AfC and do not think you meant any. I hope you think same about my comments. I did not get into this at ANI because it is off-topic, but just so you know there are several AfC reviewers who do spend additional time on FA's drafts (and other drafts too), cleaning them up some, adding sources and/or expanding them. Cheers! S0091 (talk) 19:26, 27 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

No worries, thanks for the note & for your work! Andre🚐 19:26, 27 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

Mar 8: WikiWednesday Salon by Grand Central

Mar 8: WikiWednesday Salon by Grand Central

The gathering is in the vicinity of Grand Central Terminal.

You are invited to join the Wikimedia NYC community and visitors from the global Wikimedia Foundation for our WikiWednesday Salon by Grand Central, in-person at Convene 101 Park Avenue in the vicinity of Manhattan's Grand Central Terminal. No experience of anything at all is required. All are welcome!

This is somewhat of a sequel to last year's Wikipedia:Meetup/NYC/Brunch in terms of the participants, though this time it is an evening event in a different borough.

We may leaven the event with a few impromptu lightning talks, a Wiki-fashion show (yes, really!), and likely an afterparty tour.

All attendees are subject to Wikimedia NYC's Code of Conduct. In addition, to participate in person you should be vaccinated and also be sure to respect others' personal space, and we may limit overall attendance size if appropriate.

5:30 pm - 7:00 pm
(Convene 101 Park Avenue, near Manhattan's Grand Central Terminal)

The Ukraine question

Last week you metioned that you might find some time to look at the Ukraine invasion articles. At present someone is trying to do a non-admin close on one of the move requests. I'll revert it to request a second opinion, which you might also glance at for adding your opinion or otherwise. The only other reasonable option at this time would seem to be merge phase 4 timeline back into the phase 3 timeline, which would also solve the name conflicts of sibling Wikipedia pages for the 2022 Russian invasion sibling articles. ErnestKrause (talk) 15:44, 27 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi Ernest, I haven't taken a look yet but thanks for following up. Andre🚐 19:26, 27 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
I've moved the discussion back to the main page Talk discussion, possibly you could add some comment there about your reading of all this. By the way, are you planning on going to Wiki meeting at Grand Central next week? ErnestKrause (talk) 17:08, 1 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

I don't know, but...

Maybe "disruptive abuse of process" is a little harsh? If you're settled on it, it might go down easier with a bit more explanation. Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 02:53, 18 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

I'd say it's pretty obvious? They keep filing more RMs and move reviews until an obvious no consensus resulted in a move? Andre🚐 03:00, 18 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
Do you think Vanamonde's close was a disruptive abuse of process? Since that's what under discussion, that's how your comment is coming off. Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 03:05, 18 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
A fair point, hopefully my next comment has clarified that. Andre🚐 03:09, 18 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
