Invitation to Cornell study on Wikipedia discussions

Hello Andrevan,

Iโ€™m reaching out as part of a Cornell University academic study investigating the potential for user-facing tools to help improve discussion quality within Wikipedia discussion spaces (such as talk pages, noticeboards, etc.). We chose to reach out to you because you have been highly active on various discussion pages.

The study centers around a prototype tool, ConvoWizard, which is designed to warn Wikipedia editors when a discussion they are replying to is getting tense and at risk of derailing into personal attacks or incivility. More information about ConvoWizard and the study can be found at our research project page on meta-wiki.

If this sounds like it might be interesting to you, you can use this link to sign up and install ConvoWizard. Of course, if you are not interested, feel free to ignore this message.

If you have any questions or thoughts about the study, our team is happy to discuss! You may direct such comments to me or to my collaborator, Cristian_at_CornellNLP.

Thank you for your consideration.

Thanks for the invitation, but I'm not interested. Andre๐Ÿš 18:06, 24 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hello, I noticed that you recently removed content without adequately explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an accurate edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry; the removed content has been restored. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks.-69.119.175.33 (talk) 01:48, 1 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

Actually, you removed content. Andre๐Ÿš 01:50, 1 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

I simply relocated it to "others", that's not removal. You proceeded to then undo my edit, THAT is removal. - 69.119.175.33 (talk) 01:50, 1 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

No, you removed content on eugenics. And of course Umberto Eco is a scholar. I've reported you to AN3 for editwarring. Andre๐Ÿš 01:51, 1 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

I wrote that I un-did the edit to the most neutral version. You are wrong, again. And no, Eco is not a scholar. -69.119.175.33 (talk) 01:52, 1 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

Eco is a "Italian medievalist, philosopher, semiotician, novelist, cultural critic, and political and social commentator." Regardless, your WP:BOLD edits were not supported by consensus and were reverted, you must seek consensus on talk to remove that long-standing material, not edit war. Andre๐Ÿš 01:54, 1 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Modern Jewish historiography, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Opprobrium.

Godzilla

Excellent points made here!, little Man with Van! Bishzilla good friends with Cousin Godzilla. No kowtowing to private company's aggressive copyright claims! [Bishzilla, whose vocabulary is already extensive thanks to wordsmyth.net, makes special note of "kowtow". Fine word, use often!] bishzilla ROARR!! pocket 14:12, 7 November 2023 (UTC).Reply

Bishzilla, always glad to hear from you. It does not surprise me at all that "kowtow" is not a word in your vocabulary! But now you can use it to remind people not to do it. Never change, 'zilla! Andre๐Ÿš 17:30, 7 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

Happy result!

[1]. Amid so much unpleasantness on Wikipedia, what a lovely result it is to see this. I felt that it should happen, but I had no confidence that it would. A small victory for things working the way that they are supposed to on Wikipedia. --Tryptofish (talk) 17:09, 7 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

Wow! Wasn't expecting it, but always glad to see it. Andre๐Ÿš 17:27, 7 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

for any Arabic-fluent talk page stalkers, I'm curious how this translates. It's supposed to say the US won't back down from the challenge of Putin and Hamas. DYK for Modern Jewish historiography

On 25 November 2023, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Modern Jewish historiography, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that dei Rossi's work on modern Jewish historiography was banned by Venetian rabbis, but he obtained imprimatur from a Catholic? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Jewish historiography. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Modern Jewish historiography), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

ArbCom 2023 Elections voter message

Hello! Voting in the 2023 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 11 December 2023. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2023 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:20, 28 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

  • The Arbitration Committee has announced a call for Checkusers and Oversighters, stating that it will currently be accepting applications for CheckUser and/or Oversight permissions at any point in the year.

Lichens

Hi Andrevan; welcome to the lichen task force! It's great to see a new editor getting involved. Feel free to ping any of us if you have questions. By the way, we're voting on the subject for our first collaboration article here, if that's something you might be interested in helping with. Otherwise, dive in! There is loads to do.ย ;) MeegsC (talk) 21:40, 8 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

Thanks, MeegsC. I don't know how much exactly lichen work I'll be doing or when, but I definitely want to keep apprised and offer what help I can, though I am not a lichen expert or any kind of biological scientist or conservationist, just an enthusiastic amateur. Moss is another great and underdeveloped topic critically important to climate change and to air quality! Andre๐Ÿš 23:50, 8 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
Actually, I think only one of us is really a lichen expert. The rest of us are all just enthusiastic amateurs as well.ย :) MeegsC (talk) 09:55, 9 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

December 2023

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war. This means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be although other editors disagree. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus, rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Points to note:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made;
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes and work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing. Iennes (talk) 07:43, 16 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

I haven't edit warred, no. I made one revert. Andre๐Ÿš 07:43, 16 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

You have violated the 1RR at 2023 Israelโ€“Hamas war, in addition to making nakedly partisan and tendentious edits. Please self-revert your latest change or you will be reported. nableezy - 09:28, 16 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

Actually, you have already declined to self-revert above, so Ill be reporting it now. nableezy - 09:29, 16 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

WP:AE#Andrevan. nableezy - 09:36, 16 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

Utter BS and bad faith. No attempt at reconciliation or understanding of an innocent error that was immediately fixed. I doubt Nableezy would appreciate being treated in the same manner the next time they make an error. They have now created a karma debt they will likely be forced to pay at some point in the future when they reveal they are not perfect. I have commented at AE. -- Valjean (talk) (PING me) 20:26, 16 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

It is extremely disappionting that Admins are not actively watching and engaging on these topics where some editors appear to be NOTHERE pursuing a deeply held personal POV. I am struck by how well the editing environment and interpersonal culture has developed in American Politics where only a few (impatient) newbies tend to get so upset with disussions of NPOV, BLP, etc. Some of the current mideast editors include personal attacks and denial of policy in nearly every post on the talk pages and don't even bother to address calmly stated concerns of editors whose editorial opinions differ from theirs. SPECIFICO talk 21:55, 16 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
Are you referring the the Team Blue AP2 editors? nableezy - 22:08, 16 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
Editors aren't on teams, if people choose to see the world that way, so be it. Reality has a well-known left-wing bias. Andre๐Ÿš 22:34, 16 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
If you haven't seen it, check out the Noam Chomsky article and talk. A 100 year old man, one of the most famous and notable public thinkers for decades, and suddenly an editor claims that some past thougths of Chomsky about Israel were overlooked but meet WEIGHT after all these years to the contrary. SPECIFICO talk 21:58, 16 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
I don't think I can edit impartially about Noam Chomsky, because I love him deeply. But I may leave a comment on the talk. Andre๐Ÿš 22:33, 16 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

Invitation

Hello AndreJustAndre/Archives, we need experienced volunteers.
  • New Page Patrol is currently struggling to keep up with the influx of new articles. We could use a few extra hands on deck if you think you can help.
  • Reviewing/patrolling a page doesn't take much time but it requires a good understanding of Wikipedia policies and guidelines; Wikipedia needs experienced users to perform this task and there are precious few with the appropriate skills. Even a couple reviews a day can make a huge difference.
  • Kindly read the tutorial before making your decision (if it looks daunting, don't worry, it basically boils down to checking CSD, notability, and title). If this looks like something that you can do, please consider joining us.
  • If you would like to join the project and help out, please see the granting conditions. You can apply for the user-right HERE.
  • If you have questions, please feel free to drop a message at the reviewer's discussion board.
  • Cheers, and hope to see you around.
