- (looks like the promoter forgot to give out the credits, so I'm boldly correcting that here). Thanks for stepping in and expanding this one, I never found any time to look at it yesterday. And no WikiCup points for me, since I didn't actually edit the article at all! 😊 — Amakuru (talk) 09:23, 15 May 2021 (UTC)
- @Amakuru: thanks very much for that! My apologies for seemingly "taking" this article you wanted to improve for RD. As a courtesy, I refrain from editing articles that others have nominated and stated their intention to expand (e.g. Serge Bouchard). I held off for 7 hours and only decided to jump in after Vacant0 began editing it. Thanks for understanding and assuming good faith! 😊 —Bloom6132 (talk) 13:24, 15 May 2021 (UTC)
- On which subject, I just took at look at Gilles Lupien with a view to maybe RD-ing it, but I see you're already on the case so I'll leave it alone. Unfortunately for those concerned, there are probably more than enough RDs to go around anyway! — Amakuru (talk) 08:28, 19 May 2021 (UTC)

Patrick Sky
Hello
I am the author of the following biographical information about Patrick Sky which you removed:
1) Having become increasingly disillusioned with the music business, Sky relocated from New York City to Perryville, a small town in South Kingstown, Rhode Island.
and
2) the following year
I understand the importance of including citations. It is unfortunate that I am unable to provide anything other than personal recollection to support my statement. However, as a longtime personal friend and former business partner of Patrick Sky, I would hope my remembrances would hold considerable weight.
When I met him in 1970, after his move to the aforementioned small town where I lived with my mother and younger brother, he was quite disillusioned with the music business in New York and frustrated with being unable to achieve the level of success he believe he deserved. He was always ready to express these sentiments and often did, particularly after he'd had a few drinks.
These emotions also found expression in the songs he was writing at the time, several of which would be recorded the following spring to be included on his album, "Songs That Made America Famous." These were quite ribald and amusing, for those whose senses of humor could accommodate their scatological nature. The album was intended to be a sort of artistic revenge on the "suits" in the recording industry, who were hampering his creative freedom, to hear him tell it - or at least the musical equivalent of flipping them off. The irony of his being unable to put out the record for two years was not lost on him, and was a source of both frustration and amusement, confirming his cynicism.
Again, I am unable to provide any published source for these recollections. This is regrettable, as they are true and accurate, and deserve to be included in the story of has life and career. Unfortunately, of the four people mentioned in this remembrance, I am the only one still alive. All I can think of to support what I've said are two circumstantial references:
1) The opening paragraph of Loudon Wainwright's book, "The Charlie Poole Project" (mentioned, though not by name, in the Talk on this subject), which places Patrick in Perryville in the early 1970s;
2) The inclusion of the following phrase in the "Thank You's" part of the liner notes of the above album: "And all the crazy friends in Rhode Island, and wherever they are." We were among those crazy friends.
If it's at all useful, I wrote a piece about him upon hearing of his passing which serves as a eulogy, and posted it to The Mandolin Café Forum https://www.mandolincafe.com/forum/threads/155319-Patrick-Sky-RIP/ as well as on my facebook page. I doubt these would serve as true references; I merely mention them by way of reinforcing my assertion of their truth.
I apologize for the length of this post. I believe I've never engaged in this sort of discussion before, or if I have, it wouldn't have been about a subject that means this much to me. I trust you can see that is the case here, and hope that will inspire you to reconsider your decision and restore the deleted passage.
If you do indeed to do so, I suggest including the date, for the sake of clarity, thus:
1) Having become increasingly disillusioned with the music business, in 1970, Sky relocated from New York City to Perryville, a small town in South Kingstown, Rhode Island.
The following phrase thus performs adequately.
2) the following year
My only interest is in doing whatever I can to help tell Patrick Sky's story as completely and accurately as possible.
Thank you.

- I have to say, having loved that Coat of Arms for ages, I feel it is a real shame this didn't get into an image slot. It's a powerful image with interesting symbolism. There seems to be a lot of heraldry and flags that are getting overlooked for image slots nowadays. I can't recall when we had one. I hope when I do get Flag of Montserrat back up, we can correct this (What I think is) a disappointing missed opportunity. The C of E God Save the Queen! (talk) 16:21, 20 July 2021 (UTC)

WikiCup 2021 September newsletter
The fourth round of the competition has finished with over 500 points being required to qualify for the final round. It was a hotly competitive round with two contestants, The Rambling Man and Epicgenius, each scoring over 3000 points, and six contestants scoring over 1000. All but one of the finalists achieved one or more FAs during the round, the exception being Bloom6132 who demonstrated that 61 "in the news" items produces an impressive number of points. Other contestants who made it to the final are Gog the Mild, Lee Vilenski, BennyOnTheLoose, Amakuru and Hog Farm. However, all their points are now swept away and everyone starts afresh in the final round.
Round 4 saw the achievement of 18 featured articles and 157 good articles. Bilorv scored for a 25-article good topic on Black Mirror but narrowly missed out on qualifying for the final round. There was enthusiasm for FARs, with 89 being performed, and there were 63 GARs and around 100 DYKs during the round. As we start round 5, we say goodbye to the eight competitors who didn't quite make it to the final round; thank you for the useful contributions you have made to the Cup and Wikipedia, and we hope you will join us again next year. For other contestants, remember that any content promoted after the end of round 4 but before the start of round 5 can be claimed in round 5. Remember too that you must claim your points within 14 days of "earning" them.
If you are concerned that your nomination, whether it be for a good article, a featured process, or anything else, will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed (remember to remove your listing when no longer required). If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to help keep down the review backlogs! 30–30 club
Hi Bloom6132, a brief note about a couple recent edits to the 30–30 club article.
I added a No. column to the table after correcting the claim in the lead that "X players have reached the 30–30 club", where the count was 41 and unsourced. Manually counting through the list, it was apparent that 41 was incorrect, so I fixed it (Mullins is the 43rd different player to achieve the feat). My experience has been that editors like to count things, without showing their work, and put the counts in articles... and over time such counts become stale. Explicitly numbering things or directly denoting things that are being counted (e.g. left-handed batters and switch hitters) makes it possible to spot errors and maintain accuracy. There are various other baseball lists that have No. columns; examples include List of Major League Baseball no-hitters and List of Major League Baseball perfect games. I'd ask if you could please reconsider your removal of it.
The unsourced statement "Eight of these players (including four active members of the 30–30 club) have played for only one major league team." is an example of the above: editors like to count things but don't show their work. Who are the eight players... the article doesn't say, nor are these players denoted in some manner in the list. I hope that number is correct, but there's currently have no way to know if Mullins (who has only played for Baltimore) is included or not, other that trudging through everyone in the list. At a minimum, the eight players should be listed, especially so that if/when an active member of the list plays for some other team, the count can be revised downward. Lastly, I would question if/why this is notable? Ten seasons is established to be the criterion of List of Major League Baseball players who spent their entire career with one franchise.
Thanks. Dmoore5556 (talk) 22:49, 26 September 2021 (UTC)
- @Dmoore5556: numerous baseball lists have been promoted to FL without citations for the number of players in the club (I can provide you with examples if you insist), ostensibly per WP:BLUESKY. How many people in the club is not contentious – it simply necessitates counting the table and excluding those who have multiple 30–30 seasons. Same goes for one-team players (whose statuses are already sourced in their individual Baseball-Reference.com biographies already in the table). They are namely: Larkin, Bagwell, Wright, Braun, Trout, Jose Ramirez, Acuna, and Mullins (the last 4 of whom are still active). I was not asked in the FLC to spell out each and every player in that category (it was not demanded of baseball lists promoted before and after the 30–30 club was). There is no policy or guideline that requires "showing [your] work" (this isn't math class) or having every detail in the lead denoted in the table per WP:EXAMPLEFARM and WP:CRUFT. Finally, List of Major League Baseball players who spent their entire career with one franchise is not a featured list, and in any case, should not be considered consensus as to what the WP:BASEBALL community deems to be the cut-off point. —Bloom6132 (talk) 01:39, 27 September 2021 (UTC)
- Bloom6132, thanks for replying. My point is that counts, when given, should be accurate, and articles should be constructed to help promote that. It may not be "contentious" how many players are in a certain list, but if editors don't care that a count is correct, then it shouldn't be given (bad info is worse that no info). Yelich was the 42nd player to have a 30–30 season, coming in 2019, yet the article stated (up until a few days ago) there had only been 41 players who achieved the feat. For over a year, no one bothered to check the count. Explicitly numbering the unique players ("showing your work") makes such errors clear. So would listing the one-team players by name. Cheers. Dmoore5556 (talk) 02:32, 27 September 2021 (UTC)
- @Dmoore5556: The point re. how much info must be included in an FL was dealt with last year in Wikipedia:Featured list candidates/List of Major League Baseball players with a home run in their first major league at bat/archive1. Under the "Resolved comments from Harrias" template, one of the FL directors states that
"At a minimum, that should have a footnote saying the information is verified by the Baseball-Reference pages."
I've added a note to that effect after the sentence re. one-team players in the 30–30 list.
- @Dmoore5556: The point re. how much info must be included in an FL was dealt with last year in Wikipedia:Featured list candidates/List of Major League Baseball players with a home run in their first major league at bat/archive1. Under the "Resolved comments from Harrias" template, one of the FL directors states that
- "Showing your work" to make errors clear is just a band-aid solution to the problem of stopping such errors from being made in the first place (i.e. someone has to update the lead accordingly). Yes, in a perfect world, editors who update the table should also update the lead. But that's not going to happen. I really don't think being off by one player is such an egregious error that it needs to be "rectified" with adding superfluous information to a table that already satisfies FL standards. —Bloom6132 (talk) 07:51, 27 September 2021 (UTC)

Date formatting
Just for info, wrt your edit to Paddy Moloney. What you have done, changing the dates entered in standard YYYY-MM-DD format to formatted dmy dates, is not wrong, but it was a waste of your time because the Use dmy dates template at the top of the articles ensures that this is done for you automatically. Why can’t season be linked in a table. What’s the issue with that? Jimmymci234 (talk) 06:39, 28 October 2021 (UTC)
- @Jimmymci234: MOS:UNLINKDATES states:
"Dates, years, and other chronological items should be linked only when they are relevant to the subject and likely to be useful to a reader".
Adhering to WP:DATELINK and MOS:DATE (of which {{dts}} usage is integral) takes primacy over having the season linked. —Bloom6132 (talk) 06:53, 28 October 2021 (UTC)
- The season link is very relevant to the subject and I would say it is more useful to the reader to have than not. Jimmymci234 (talk) 07:04, 28 October 2021 (UTC)
- @Jimmymci234: the tournament link (esp. one linking to the specific edition of the tournament, if available) is far more relevant the subject than the season link. WP:DATELINK states:
"Month-and-day articles … and year articles … should not be linked unless the linked date or year has a significant connection to the subject of the linking article, beyond that of the date itself, so that the linking enhances the reader's understanding of the subject".
The date links in the table of Andersson Hed's article do not have a significant connection beyond that of the date itself. And again, MOS:DATE (hence dts) takes primacy over any usefulness to the reader. —Bloom6132 (talk) 07:24, 28 October 2021 (UTC)

The WikiCup
Please could you take a look at my sandbox to proofread the report I have prepared for The Signpost. I was tempted to write of your efforts that "it is not an honour to be written about by Bloom6132 because it means you have recently died", but thought it was in poor taste! You have a good eye for detail, so if you see any corrections needed or have any ideas for improvement, please mention it. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 11:20, 16 November 2021 (UTC)I've
- @Cwmhiraeth: Thanks for letting me know! I've made a few minor corrections to my ITN total (136 was my total last year). You might want to specify "New York City" in the first mention of Epicgenius's entry. Lastly, all the figures for the total content improvements over the whole tournament are inaccurate, due to round 1 having been calculated improperly by the bot and archived before it could be corrected (e.g. I was credited with only 20 ITN that round, but the point total in the table indicates the correct number is 71). Unfortunately, it seems too cumbersome to calculate the totals manually and then add them to the other four rounds (esp. since round 1 has the most competitors). —Bloom6132 (talk) 12:13, 16 November 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks, I hadn't realised that the round 1 figures were so inaccurate. I had better check whether I need to make adjustments to the totals in paragraph two. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 19:09, 16 November 2021 (UTC)
