Request for creation of SVG signature of the Aleksandr Kolchak

Hello Connormah, i noticed you are interested in creating svg images of signatures. So my question is whether you're be able to create an svg-signature out of this picture from the Aleksandr Kolchak.--Kolchak1923 (talk) 21:33, 3 May 2010 (UTC)

Sure, that shouldn't be too much of a problem, excluding time constraints. I'll get to it ASAP when time permits. Thanks for the request! Connormah (talk | contribs) 04:21, 19 May 2010 (UTC)

Another?

Hello again. I know you're pretty busy these days, but I'd be exceptionally grateful if you could find time (no rush) to generate a signature for Nathan Hale, whose signature I downloaded. The image needs some trimming. [1] Many thanks again for all your help! MarmadukePercy (talk) 00:16, 30 June 2010 (UTC)

Incidentally, I see you are applying for Admin. Hope it goes your way. MarmadukePercy (talk) 16:13, 10 July 2010 (UTC)
Thanks, as for the above, I'll try to get to it today. Apologies for not getting back to you, I didn't seem to get a 'new messages notification' when you posted it - probably a sign that I need to clean up my talk page soon :) Connormah (talk | contribs) 16:15, 10 July 2010 (UTC)
No worries. I understand: I recently cleaned up my talk page and ended up with three entire archives full! lol. MarmadukePercy (talk) 16:27, 10 July 2010 (UTC)
I am still interested in this Hale signature whenever you have a spare moment. Thanks, MarmadukePercy (talk) 05:51, 31 July 2010 (UTC)

Mackerras

Hi. Did the Mackerras image fall through? Best regards, -- Ssilvers (talk) 18:55, 2 August 2010 (UTC)

Theodore Dwight Woolsey photo

Hello. I noticed the photo you added. I would prefer to keep the other image in the infobox, as the photo you added has a watermark and isn't particularly strong. If we can find a better photograph, I wouldn't be averse to subbing it in the infobox. But I don't think that one fits the bill. MarmadukePercy (talk) 22:57, 2 August 2010 (UTC)

I'm requesting the watermark be removed with a higher resolution image - perhaps I was a bit too quick at adding it. I'll add it when it's removed. Connormahtalk 22:58, 2 August 2010 (UTC)
Okay, thanks. Woolsey was a pretty important figure at Yale, with several landmarks about campus named for him. It'd be nice to have an entry that does him justice. I should get to work (when I finish taking a little time off) expanding his entry. MarmadukePercy (talk) 23:03, 2 August 2010 (UTC)
No problem. Connormahtalk 23:06, 2 August 2010 (UTC)

Take it off

  1. One Unsourced.
  2. Two Changing numbers to #'s. Ive warned the user before, hes just on a different IP.
  3. Three Unsourced.
  4. Four Unsourced.

Thats todays, earlier history there alot more unsourced edits. I dont wanna violate 3RR and reverting is getting a pain. Protection would be appreciated. - (CK)Lakeshade - talk2me - 03:24, 4 August 2010 (UTC)

3RR doesn't apply to reverting unsourced stuff/vandalism IIRC. Also, I'm not sure what that first instance you posted here is, but only 5 is manageable IMO - it's not so bad that we can't keep up with it. Also, my comments were just my views - I don't make decisions like that as I'm not an admin. Connormahtalk 04:14, 4 August 2010 (UTC)
Hahaha, apologies. I guess my first copy didnt copy the right page, oops. And 3RR does apply to unsourced edits. I was warned for it when i was first learning how to edit. - (CK)Lakeshade - talk2me - 04:19, 4 August 2010 (UTC)
Just my view IMO. I'm interested to see how the admin who reviews the request will respond. Connormahtalk 04:38, 4 August 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for the notification, Connormah although I wasn't the editor who wrote the sentence in question or for that matter any of the lead in the article. I did request that the editor change the word "curmudgeonly" and he therefore wrote "stubborn" in its place. I take the more positive definition of the words used and see them as meaning "uncompromising" and "eccentric" which is not a bad thing in a creative profession where being unafraid to be unique and out of the ordinary is not a bad thing. Agadant (talk) 18:50, 6 August 2010 (UTC)

These descriptors have been in the article for about 15 months and it also passed WP:GA as such. There have not been any objections to them that I can remember. Also, "critically acclaimed" balances it out. (There have been objections to critically acclaimed in the opening sentence.) Agadant (talk) 19:45, 6 August 2010 (UTC):

Nathan Hale

Many thanks. Nathan is resting easier in his grave this evening. :-) MarmadukePercy (talk) 03:34, 8 August 2010 (UTC)

I think the signature turned out great. Thanks. I will have a look around tomorrow in my usual daguerreotype sources and will let you know if I hit pay dirt. (I've found that finding daguerreotypes for folks is problematic. Some folks you'd think would have them don't, and then some you never imagined would have them do.) MarmadukePercy (talk) 03:40, 8 August 2010 (UTC)
Hi, I have searched for Helm, Polk and Johnson. On the first pass I'm not turning up anything. But sometimes it takes me awhile to dig up images. I just keep checking sources, and then I find a source I hadn't used before and luck into something. I will keep all three in my head and continue to search for them. As I say, this daguerreotype thing is really hit-or-miss. I came on a real trove of them recently in one university archive. They're out there, but it takes some old-fashioned 'shoe leather' (in reporter speak) to find them sometimes. MarmadukePercy (talk) 21:34, 8 August 2010 (UTC)
"Hi MarmadukePercy - any chance you can find anything on George Mifflin Dallas? " I'll have a look. MarmadukePercy (talk)

Could you please add the fact that this signature was published prior to 1916 to its description page, per Ucucha's request here? When I go to this file, I only have a "Create" button instead of an "Edit" button. Don't know why that is. Acdixon (talk contribs count) 20:02, 9 August 2010 (UTC)

Gracias, amigo. I know zilch about Commons, as I do all my work here. No problem if it doesn't happen right away; these FACs drag on forever. Acdixon (talk contribs count) 20:30, 9 August 2010 (UTC)
That'd be awesome. Also, didn't mean to ignore you re: a photograph of Richard Mentor Johnson. It's been a while since I was actively looking for stuff about him, but I don't remember running across anything. I would like to take that article to FA eventually, but there's a little hang-up about the Bryan's Station raid that I've been unable to clear up. Maybe one day. Acdixon (talk contribs count) 20:36, 9 August 2010 (UTC)
A little small, but seems like it would fill the bill. Acdixon (talk contribs count) 20:57, 9 August 2010 (UTC)

Re: Michael Bublé image

Hello! Just a small suggestion for you. When you replace an image, especially on a featured list (since alt. text is required), you may want to try editing the alt. text that accompanies the image so that it reflects the new image accurately. Also, the new image of Michael Bublé is great, but a quick crop along the top may improve the image by removing the "blank" space and centering Bublé more. I've looked at some of your other contributions--keep up the great work! --Another Believer (Talk) 23:44, 10 August 2010 (UTC)

No problem, I'll try and get a decent crop. Thanks, Connormahtalk 23:46, 10 August 2010 (UTC)
Sure thing! 'Twas just a suggestion, if you are interested. Best wishes! --Another Believer (Talk) 23:50, 10 August 2010 (UTC)

Re: Signature

Sure, you can copy the code I use from here and then create a page page like User:Connormah/Sig and put {{subst:User:Connormah/Sig}} in the signature field in "My Preferences" and just sign with ~~~. You only need three tildes, four and it adds a second timestamp. The timestamp in the code is the exact same one Wikipedia adds. Let me know if you need any help. - NeutralhomerTalk18:25, 12 August 2010 (UTC)

Re:Michael of Romania

I'll be honest, I don't think it would pass due to the other torsos hanging around- without them, it would be an easy support from me, with them, a regretful oppose. Feel free to give it a bash, though- I don't always make the right call. It's a damn striking picture, and it would have passed a few years ago, but the standards have gone right up. If his public appearances were incredibly rare and there was no chance of a replacement, you may be able to make an argument, but I don't think it'd pass now. J Milburn (talk) 18:37, 12 August 2010 (UTC)

Just add something like *On second thoughts, '''withdrawn''', obviously not suited for FP. ~~~~ at the bottom of the page, and someone uninvolved will come along and close it. Don't be disheartened, FPC here is tough. J Milburn (talk) 22:27, 12 August 2010 (UTC)

Asking help editing an image

Hi, Connor! I was wondering if you have the skills to help me out with this problem. I am nominating the article about Emperor Pedro II of Brazil to featured class but I need to improve that image of him. I need his hair and beard to look at least similar to the other portraits shown. Thank you very much. Please, help me out. --Lecen (talk) 01:13, 13 August 2010 (UTC)

Well, to be sincere with you, I wanted a picture of him young and more "real". For the last months I've been working on this article from scratch. All is left is this image. I believe the color of his skin is quite good but all is left is to fix his beard and hair. Are you sure you can't do that? Do you know someone else who could do that? Anyway, thank you very much for yout ime. Regards, --Lecen (talk) 01:59, 13 August 2010 (UTC)

License tagging for File:Bungie Logo - Official.svg

Thanks for uploading File:Bungie Logo - Official.svg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Daniel Coit Gilman infobox

Hi, you set up that infobox for Gilman at his piece. But I think it should be 'headlined' President of Johns Hopkins. Gilman's tenure at Hopkins. where he served as the first president, was far longer than his tenure at Cal, and his accomplishments at Hopkins – particularly in the area of graduate school – are still being written about today by experts in the field. In other words, it's for his tenure as president at Hopkins for which he is remembered today. Thanks. MarmadukePercy (talk) 11:09, 18 August 2010 (UTC)

Could you have a look at File:Kirsten Dunst 2 Shankbone.jpg for me and see if you can do something with the brightness in the top right? The lighting is terrible, which is a shame, because it's otherwise a very good image. A friend and I were hoping to use it as the lead image in Kirsten Dunst. Looks like you've stopped the bleeding? On a side note, does Crown Copyright apply to the provinces? What about cities? The Dief Center sent me a huge list of pictures and some of them are from the Saskatchewan archives or were taken by the city of Montreal (not the same ones).--Wehwalt (talk) 21:07, 28 August 2010 (UTC)
Not sure, might want to ask Elcobbola about that - on the other hand, I think I'll put Dewdney off for now - looks like there are better resources, plus the resource I have now is a bit hard to read and extract and summarize the facts - there's lots of extra info. Connormah 21:10, 28 August 2010 (UTC)
The Dief Center has lots of shots I'd love to use but they are almost certainly copyright. But they have some here and there that are before 1945, or that are by the film board, or that are UK Crown Copyright expired or to expire at the end of the year. It should be a productive couple of days.--Wehwalt (talk) 21:41, 28 August 2010 (UTC)
I think I might take on Francis Godschall Johnson in the meantime - Dewdney is getting a bit complicated - the other source is probably way better than the one I have, so the comprehensiveness may not be at it's best. Connormah 03:08, 29 August 2010 (UTC)

I think you need to answer all questions fully as we do not hand out limited mops and even though you may not intend to work in that area, the community has no recourse if you should work in that area later and do it badly.

I've got to see where we stand on Shield nickel images, I have still not heard back from Spindel and fear that the license may have scared him off. It is possible the ANA money museum in Colorado Springs will play ball. Buying Shield nickels in decent enough condition to show the detail isn't on my agenda. They are not cheap. Liberty Head nickels are doable, but not Shield. I am hopeful Liberty Bell will clear the FAC page this weekend, if I don't have the coins ready it will have to be Charlotte next. I am also starting work on History of the New York Jets, which involves more cutting back than writing, it is three times as long as it needs to be. Images are a problem there.--Wehwalt (talk) 13:42, 27 August 2010 (UTC)

Conn, I certainly do not think you should feel obliged to answer any 'optional' questions if you don't feel like it. Research has shown that many of those 'optional' questions are posed by children, people wanting quick answers to their own editing problems, general time wasters, and most disturbingly, by admins who never had to answer any any additional questions themselves and might not realise the extra pressure this puts on people, and is one of the strongest a deterrent against wanting to run for office. If I were running the gauntlet (and I might be one day), I will certainly not spend three hours answering anything up to 12 questions compiled into one 'optional' question. I would blatantly ignore it. Sorry that I could not see my way clear to supporting you this time, but do bear in mind that 'neutral' is neutral, not 'weak oppose'. --Kudpung (talk) 11:11, 28 August 2010 (UTC)
Thanks Kudpung - I've answered the questions that I feel are relevant that relate to admin tasks. I agree, some questions don't really relate, which is why I've taken the option not to answer. Connormah 21:09, 28 August 2010 (UTC)

If not, please do so and let me know the filenames so I can include them in an email to OTRS and also alert Elcobbola to approve the ticket. No need to leave talkback, I have your talk page on watchlist.--Wehwalt (talk) 22:57, 29 August 2010 (UTC)

No problem - I'll get them up ASAP - is Charlotte going to get pushed back for shield nickel when Liberty Bell clears, then? Connormah 02:54, 30 August 2010 (UTC)
Done, see 1 2 3 - which license did he agree to license it under, though? It'd be best to tag them, I've just got the OTRS tenmplate currently. Connormah 03:37, 30 August 2010 (UTC)
Creative Commons share alike 3.0. I thought he sent five pix. Did you only get three? BTW, Raul has scheduled Canadian federal election, 1957 for September 8. I made no request.--Wehwalt (talk) 06:04, 30 August 2010 (UTC)
I will probably put up Shield nickel next just to see their eyes bug out at my totally unexpected change of pace. It looks like Sandy didn't do promotions this weekend, so I guess the first chance of promotion is Karanacs tomorrow, which should be a good chance as I have three supports and I coincidentally threw in a friendly reference to Texas A&M, Karanacs's alma mater!--Wehwalt (talk) 06:06, 30 August 2010 (UTC)
Also, you put up the same nickel twice there ...--Wehwalt (talk) 14:05, 30 August 2010 (UTC)
Sure, I'll get the others up a bit later today. Connormah 15:19, 30 August 2010 (UTC)
That is fine. Once they are up I will put together the OTRS thingy and alert Elcobbola. I see no need to wait for him to act to nom for FA, after all, he can easily put the tag on once the article is at FAC, he can hardly oppose on that ground! The two cent piece image will have to go as a copyvio and I am a bit worried about the reliability of the Longacre pic but I suspect there's others out there.--Wehwalt (talk) 15:50, 30 August 2010 (UTC)
I'll try and look into the Longacre pic, I guess - I've replaced my duplicate link (2 I think it is?) above also. Connormah 15:51, 30 August 2010 (UTC)
Yes. Do you have the other two images that he sent? I thought I sent you all five. I'm finding pix of Longacre hard to find in google books, but there are shots of the US Mint, so that is a good substitute.--Wehwalt (talk) 16:06, 30 August 2010 (UTC)
And 2 is now a redlink ...--Wehwalt (talk) 16:07, 30 August 2010 (UTC)
Fixed (.png had 2 g's) - I'll get the others up once I can crop them decently. Connormah 16:09, 30 August 2010 (UTC)
No great hurry. I swapped the image of the 2 cent piece for one of the Old Mint, though it is a bit small.--Wehwalt (talk) 16:21, 30 August 2010 (UTC)
Looks good. Is the liberty head done now? Is the History of the NY Jets the current project? I can take a look as for images if you'd like. As for the liberty head images, no reply from the Flickr user yet, sorry. Might want to come up with another plan. Connormah 16:24, 30 August 2010 (UTC)
Jets is next. It should not be too difficult. Images would be a great help. I can take my camera to the game, but I cannot take photos of the past. I bought 2 Liberty head nickels in decent condition on eBay, an 1883 No Cents and a 1912 D. That should be sufficient. I may do a couple more coin articles, but I have to check to see what I have in my safe deposit box so I don't have to buy coins or depend on others.--Wehwalt (talk) 16:34, 30 August 2010 (UTC)

OTRS approved the images, however, Elcobbola wants the frame in the Longacre image cropped as frames are 3D and a problem. Can you do this? And what's with the huge countdown clock and scoreboard I see they are constructing in your userspace :)--Wehwalt (talk) 15:14, 1 September 2010 (UTC)

Will do. BTW - Countdown clock? Did I miss something? :) Connormah (talk) 21:47, 1 September 2010 (UTC)
Just a joke. Day 1 at the Nixon Library complete, they were very helpful.--Wehwalt (talk) 01:39, 2 September 2010 (UTC)
I've done the Longacre crop too BTW - 4 hours left on the RfA.. Connormah (talk) 01:53, 2 September 2010 (UTC)
Yes, I know, HJMItchell advised me to lay low to avoid offending potential voters, then went out and did a controversial block! :)--Wehwalt (talk) 02:08, 2 September 2010 (UTC)

Chinchilla

I reverted your addition of the new photo on the chinchilla article. While the photo you added was lovely, it does not show the chinchilla's tail, which is one of its defining characteristics. As that is the infobox and the first photo on the page of a chinchilla, any photo in that box should include the tail as well, even if the quality isn't superb. I would also go so far as to say that the chinchilla should probably also be a standard grey as it is the most common and most recognized coloration. I just wanted to give you a more detailed response than my little edit summary could provide. --132 22:52, 2 September 2010 (UTC)

I have this photo of mine. It's a fairly small image, but the quality is decent, it shows his tail, he's grey, and the background isn't as busy. I don't know how well it would work, but I thought I'd throw it out there. --132 23:24, 2 September 2010 (UTC)
LOL, I can't believe I've been here for so long and have no idea how to upload photos. Could you point me in the right direction? --132 23:29, 2 September 2010 (UTC)
Did I do it right? --132 23:43, 2 September 2010 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image File:ColumbiaU Wordmarklogo.svg

Thanks for uploading File:ColumbiaU Wordmarklogo.svg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

PLEASE NOTE:

Good job on beating me to the punch, Mkativerata (and TTTSNB). To Connormah, congratulations on successful third attempt at RFA! Your bits have been twiddled. I strongly encourage and recommend that you read and become very familiar with Wikipedia:Administrators, the tools page, the blocking and banning policies, and the protection policy. Refer to them often, especially if you have questions. Please also don't hesitate to ask questions if you have them. There are plenty of people around, including myself, who are very willing to help you out should you need it. Again, congratulations! ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WikiProject Japan!

  • Welcome to The Cabal! You're now immune from all policies and should proceed to block all the opposers in your RfA. Sadly (and, it seems, contrary to popular opinion) you're not, and every time you make a mistake abuse your admisnhip, you'll be dragged to ANI, but you'll get used to that! ;) I'm sure you'll put the mop to good use, though, and do feel free to raid my monobook.js—there are some useful scripts in there. I woke up a few ago, checked the page and it has been vandalized heavily. Could you go ahead and semi-protect it for 5 days? - NeutralhomerTalk22:45, 5 September 2010 (UTC)

It only has 2 more hours, and the last vandal I blocked a couple hours ago is still pretty high up in the history - we should be able to bear it - I've got my eyes on it. Connormah (talk) 22:47, 5 September 2010 (UTC)
Ditto. I've been keeping an eye on it much of the day. It got to the point where I was about to semi it in the middle of the afternoon (UTC), but then it calmed down. It's done pretty well for a TFA. I've seen much, much worse. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 22:50, 5 September 2010 (UTC)

Cross that bridge when we get to it. For now, I'd revert, block on sight and ignore. It's only got another 56 minutes left on the MP. Btw, I'm watching you. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 23:05, 5 September 2010 (UTC)
Good point, probably the best thing to do. Connormah (talk) 23:06, 5 September 2010 (UTC)

Sorry for the lack of responses, dinner happened. Sausage/Rigatoni/Pepper stuff, very good. I will keep an eye on it as well. I think it will get some vandalism afterwards for an hour or two, but hopefully that is all. I have noticed there were some sneaky vandalism, so I had to revert those as they weren't caught earlier today. - NeutralhomerTalk23:09, 5 September 2010 (UTC)

You mean the change of date? I hovered on the rollback button, but I decided to let it be because I couldn't verify the book source. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 23:17, 5 September 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, the change of year from 1731 to 1721. The town was founded in 1731. I think the sourced I used for that was the "Newtown History Center" site that we have under OTRS. - NeutralhomerTalk23:21, 5 September 2010 (UTC)

Funny.

Apparently your block of user J.255.255.255.255 triggered the message:

Page protection

Hi Connor. Noted that you have just protected Bob Marley article due to excessive vandalism, similar to the plethora of reverts on Freddie Mercury article (14 in 7 days of which 12 were removals of IP user edits). I also noted that in terms of traffic Mercury's page is 533 on Wikipedia. Given how busy this page is (Queen page also) and nonsense IP edits, i would propose that the Mercury article (and recently unlocked Queen) are locked, and open to contributions by registered, more genuine/reliable users.JodieCox200 (talk) 02:56, 8 September 2010 (UTC)

Beer

Hi there; do we actually think that the world's best pale ale, which is a matter of opinion and was in any case only stated in a reference , is a meaningful claim to notability? I actually think not, and I thought that the block was a good one. I had intended to go and implement the speedy, but it was declined just in time and it is not worth wheel-warring about. --Anthony Bradbury"talk" 22:27, 8 September 2010 (UTC)

Well personally, I like my beers a little darker – a nice copper colour is the best – but that seems to be a credible claim of significance to me, though not one of notability (the two are, I'm told, different things). Only reminds me why I avoid A7! HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 22:40, 8 September 2010 (UTC)
Fine; I spend most of my life in WP:CSD, and in my opinion this article qualifies under A7. And, as I have already said, IMHO the block was good. I note a new request to re-block on the grounds of sockpuppetry. I feel that someone else should handle that one. --Anthony Bradbury"talk" 21:20, 9 September 2010 (UTC)
That's reasonable - I won't take any further actions. Connormah (talk) 21:27, 9 September 2010 (UTC)
Well it's not evasion if it's a {{softerblock}}, as the block of the account was, the template invites you to "evade" the block. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 21:34, 9 September 2010 (UTC)

Unblocking of User talk:85.211.114.101

Hi Connormah, regarding your unblocking of User talk:85.211.114.101. I am requesting a sock puppet investigation as there is a very strong possibility that this IP has been continuing to develeop the CSD'd article to circumvent the block already placed on their account at User talk:Stewartbrewing. The evidence on the Stewart Brewing article page history, along with the multiple removals of the CSD template, is very strong. --Kudpung (talk) 14:49, 9 September 2010 (UTC)

The unblock was mainly because the reason (removing CSD tags) for the block had went stale – the speedy was declined. Your suspicion definitely crossed my mind at a point, though - good idea. Connormah (talk) 15:19, 9 September 2010 (UTC)

A nickel here, a nickel there

St. Gaudens Double Eagle is next, work already started. I would like to complete this before I leave for Canada on the 14th, and I don't think it will be hugely long. I think I can get hold of one for an image ... the ones presently in the article are copyvios.--Wehwalt (talk) 20:48, 9 September 2010 (UTC)

Sounds good - as always - if you can find one on Flickr, do ask me - I can contact the owner and negotiate a release (If I'm lucky). If you are taking suggestions for (long term) future projects, could I suggest Jacques Cartier? He's a pretty important guy, being the guy who claimed Canada for France - he's rated a high importance in Wikiprojects Canada and France, and the article is viewed usually 1000+ times per day, but it could really use some improvement, as it's C-Class with a refimprove tag (could also be a good Canada Day 2010 TFA). It's up to you, of course - I could try and help with images, but this is just a suggestion. :) Alexander Mackenzie (explorer) could also be another good one if you're interested. Connormah (talk) 01:50, 10 September 2010 (UTC)
Reason I have avoided French Canadian related stuff, is I'm afraid there will be major sources in French and not translated. Perhaps that is why St. Laurent hasn't had a biography in English since his deatH. Still I will look at Cartier. Thanks for the crops. I will probably have about four more tomorrow re Saint-Gaudens.--Wehwalt (talk) 02:19, 10 September 2010 (UTC)
Alright, thanks. Is the Liberty head next up for FAC? Are all images okay? Connormah (talk) 02:21, 10 September 2010 (UTC)
Images should all be cool, either Flikr or self-taken. Is there any way you can increase the contrast on the 1912-D one? It is in pretty bad condition. Yes, Liberty head will be next, and then Saint-Gaudens, I guess and then we'll see what gets written on my return from Canada. It won't be another coin anytime soon, three is enough.--Wehwalt (talk) 02:24, 10 September 2010 (UTC)
I'll give it a shot - but are we sure of File:Liberty Nickel With Cents Reverse.png's copyright status? It doesn't look to be a self-taken or Flickr. Like I said - the articles you do are completely up to you, but some better coverage of Canadian explorers would be nice (it's covered pretty extensively in school curriculum, the articles get lots of views) :). How long are you in Canada, by the way? Connormah (talk) 02:29, 10 September 2010 (UTC)
Fly to Saskatoon on the 14th, Regina to Vancouver on the 18th, home on the 22nd.--Wehwalt (talk) 02:31, 10 September 2010 (UTC)
Whoops, you are right, that's a copyvio. Well, I have a nickel to replace it, but I want better light to photograph it.--Wehwalt (talk) 02:32, 10 September 2010 (UTC)
No problem, I can do a crop when the you other images of the Saint-Gaudens. Connormah (talk) 02:37, 10 September 2010 (UTC)
Actually, the Saint-Gaudens infobox images say they're from the US Mint - they could probably go through as PD-USGov, but I'm not totally sure. Connormah (talk) 02:41, 10 September 2010 (UTC)
Yes, those particular images are not there anymore, but it is clear they once were, there is a link. This is good, these digital scans are much better than I could do on my own.--Wehwalt (talk) 03:01, 10 September 2010 (UTC)
Think no link will trip you up at FAC, or will you try to get alternatives just stay on the safe side? Connormah (talk) 03:02, 10 September 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, safer to get them now, I guess.--Wehwalt (talk) 03:10, 10 September 2010 (UTC)

I found some pretty nice shots of the Saint-Gaudens on Flickr - should I try to negotiate a release? Connormah (talk) 05:22, 10 September 2010 (UTC)

Sure, especially if you see any pre-1912 (46 star obverse), and especially if there's a "no motto" reverse (1907, some 1908). The article is about 2/3 done, because really not much happened during the production run of the double eagle. I'm going to see if I can manage everything today. I'll also download an image of the bullion coin from the Mint web site, and possibly the 2009 "checker" reproduction as well. Spindel was very pleased with the Shield nickel article, except for one technical point that he says Bowers is wrong on and that I will play with today, and has offered us all the images we like, alas he is a shield nickel specialist so that's sort of great, but limited.--Wehwalt (talk) 13:04, 10 September 2010 (UTC)

Five pillars

Hi there. As someone who on more than one occasion has reverted vandalism on the page, I was nonethelss wondering if you would be willing to reconsider indefinite semi protection of the five pillars.

As I see it, while largely symbolic, the five pillars are a reflection of the general philosophy of wikipedia, which is that a page should be accessible to everyone unless circumstances dictate that this is not an option, or if there is too big a risk of genuinely harmful material being posted about a living person. Taking into account the nature and frequency of vandalism and the number of people tracking that page, I don't feel that either of the above statements applies to 5P.

If you feel indefinite protection is appropriate then I'll respect that, and won't make a formal request for unprotection. But I think it's a point that's worth bearing in mind. Regards, --WFC-- 20:30, 10 September 2010 (UTC)

If it were any other project page, I would almost certainly agree 100% with Connor, but in this case, I think it's worth keeping it open. While there is a lot of vandalism, it's on a lot of watchlist (543, about 3 times the number of people watching my talk page) and, unless there are serious BLP or copyright concerns, I think we should try to leave it open to enforce its message. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 20:55, 10 September 2010 (UTC)
Sorry, I should have set an expiry, I thought I did, too, but the protection page seems to always play tricks on me - I'll unprotect. Thanks for the note. Connormah (talk) 21:26, 10 September 2010 (UTC)
No sweat. If there was a list for the amount of mistakes I've made on wikipedia, it would be deleted on accessibility grounds due to its ridiculous length! --WFC-- 01:25, 11 September 2010 (UTC)

User blocked for spamming

I've spoken to Stacyjj, who you blocked for inappropriate link additions, after she put up an unblock request. She seems now to understand that continuing to add the links would be inappropriate, and has agreed to stop doing so. Would you have any objections to unblocking (conditioned on not adding the links again, of course)? Seraphimblade Talk to me 00:45, 11 September 2010 (UTC)

Sure, that's completely fine by me, please go ahead. Thanks for your help working this out. Cheers, Connormah (talk) 00:46, 11 September 2010 (UTC)
And done. Good job on the block by the way, I think that's what got their attention enough to stop and consider it. Seraphimblade Talk to me 01:30, 11 September 2010 (UTC)

Saint-Gaudens

The article is more or less done, it needs a lede and the mintage chart. I will upload an image of a 1924 double eagle i was able to take, most likely tomorrow. Then polish, polish, polish. It is a great story, but Roosevelt sort of steals the show (he was good at that). I figure even with the speed of promotion up, this won't be needed for FAC for at least 2 weeks. I will do a DYK too. Right now I have to work on a couple of things I promised people for today and then go do some stuff offline.--Wehwalt (talk) 01:21, 11 September 2010 (UTC)

Sounds good. By the way - I've noticed that some of your more recent images are a bit blurry - have you tried sticking into a scanner? I'll look over it once more and see if I can catch any typos. Connormah (talk) 01:23, 11 September 2010 (UTC)
I'm sorry about blurriness, it is difficult to brace yourself while taking pix. I have a scanner, which I've never used, but which I am going to take with me to Saskatchewan, I have not tried putting coins in it. Do you think it would help? I can redo the pix, though it means another trip to the bank and will have to wait until my return.--Wehwalt (talk) 01:59, 11 September 2010 (UTC)
It may, though this is just a suggestion :) - no need, the current pix should be good enough. Connormah (talk) 02:01, 11 September 2010 (UTC)
Well, I will give it a try when I'm more familiar with the thing.--Wehwalt (talk) 02:04, 11 September 2010 (UTC)
Alrighty - I'll get the crops done later tonight - I need to finish up one thing offline. On another side note, I used a scanner for File:US Liberty Bell Eisenhower Dollar.jpg - it worked pretty good. Connormah (talk) 02:06, 11 September 2010 (UTC)
I will play with it with pocket change and see how it looks, these things can always be redone later.--Wehwalt (talk) 02:08, 11 September 2010 (UTC)
Alright - sounds good. I'll let you know when I receive a reply for those images on Flickr (fi I even do..) Connormah (talk) 02:10, 11 September 2010 (UTC)
Well, one can hope. Thanks.--Wehwalt (talk) 02:13, 11 September 2010 (UTC)
Hopefully - since (I presume) that this won't be at FAC for a while, I guess we've got some time... 02:16, 11 September 2010 (UTC)
It is possible Charlotte could be promoted as soon as tomorrow, it now has three supports, though I think it likely they will let it cool a week. After that, it's Liberty Head nickel. I really have to do some intense work when I get home to get the half-completed projects done.--Wehwalt (talk) 02:38, 11 September 2010 (UTC)

As a thought, do you think Bring Us Together is worth a try at FAC?--Wehwalt (talk) 03:16, 11 September 2010 (UTC)

You could give it a shot, I don't think the length will trip you up. The large image may raise issues, though, but I guess it's worth a try. Connormah (talk) 03:17, 11 September 2010 (UTC)
I'll send it to peer review, I think.--Wehwalt (talk) 03:23, 11 September 2010 (UTC)
Not a bad idea. Connormah (talk) 03:24, 11 September 2010 (UTC)
If they like it there, I may run it after the next nickel. I have a couple of sources I need to work in, so it will probably grow by 1K to 2K before all is said and done.--Wehwalt (talk) 03:36, 11 September 2010 (UTC)
Saint-Gaudens done, images added. I played with the scanner, it seems idiot proof and it is light, important when toting across continent.--Wehwalt (talk) 22:39, 11 September 2010 (UTC)
The scan looks good - I'll get to the cuts soon - I've been a bit busy. Is it just the one? Connormah (talk) 22:44, 11 September 2010 (UTC)
Yes, though there are 2 images in the article that need background to go away. That is a photo, not a scan. I will rerun the other coin ones on the scanner when I get the chance.--Wehwalt (talk) 22:47, 11 September 2010 (UTC)
Alright, I'll try and play around with the cropping tool soon :) Connormah (talk) 22:50, 11 September 2010 (UTC)
No hurry. Always grateful for your help. How do you like being an admin?--Wehwalt (talk) 22:54, 11 September 2010 (UTC)
So far so good - I need to get back to all of my half finished projects sooner than later, though. :) Connormah (talk) 22:55, 11 September 2010 (UTC)
Alas, only 24 hours in a day.--Wehwalt (talk) 22:57, 11 September 2010 (UTC)
By the way, did you send the inquiry to the Mint? Connormah (talk) 22:59, 11 September 2010 (UTC)

Sorry

With the greatest respect, I'm not sure why you left your most recent comment on my talk page, as you didn't have any involvement in it. Besides, I apologised to the user in question. I still hold the same opinion regarding his/her edit, but I have accepted that my personal viewpoint probably isn't shared by the owner of the site and therefore haven't pursued it. I still don't really appreciate being made out to be a 'bad guy', since I just disagreed over the content of a page on the internet (and I feel all opinions should be respected), but oh well. (Paul237 (talk) 22:21, 11 September 2010 (UTC))

No problem - apologies if you feel you're being made out to be a 'bad guy,' in my view, that's definitely not the case - I was just trying to add a simple suggestion, but I'm pretty much ready to move along. Thanks, Connormah (talk) 22:23, 11 September 2010 (UTC)
Okay, cool. I think the problem is that a lot of editors and administrators can come across as a bit robotic and snotty when they give 'warnings' to other editors. In my experience, people prefer to be spoken to respectfully, as they will then respond in kind. It gets people's backs up if they're spoken down to or given links to lengthy rule pages on Wikipedia. But anyway, the reason I came back was to ask if you can semi-protect my talk page. I'm not sure if I can do it myself (though I think it's unlikely). Thanks for any help you can give. (Paul237 (talk) 22:40, 11 September 2010 (UTC))
I definitely understand you - as for the talk page protection, talk pages usually aren't protected, unless there's a history of vandalism (I've endured it while fighting vandals..) - it's important to keep talkpages open so anonymous users or non-autoconfirmed users have the ability to contact you in the case that they'd need to (they can't edit through semi). I could do your userpage, though if you'd like. Connormah (talk) 22:42, 11 September 2010 (UTC)
Okay, I was just a bit concerned that potentially anyone could edit it. (Paul237 (talk) 23:11, 11 September 2010 (UTC))
