Re:Ebiet
Halo Mas! :) αδζ ψακ φρψερ 10:45, 19 October 2011 (UTC)

Gaming the system
Regarding the closure of Template:Did you know nominations/Mohammed Bensakhria, do also check the user page of the editor in question. He does 1-2 edits to an article, after which he posts a 'GA' badge at the user page. Seems to be some bizarre way of trying to fast-track an RfA. --Soman (talk) 15:27, 22 October 2011 (UTC)
- I didn't do an in-depth look. It quacked, so it was enough to refuse it. Perhaps a discussion with the user would be best, regarding honesty in relation to wikiquette. Crisco 1492 (talk) 15:31, 22 October 2011 (UTC)

BWV 169
To add to the archived discussion of BWV 169: which Tony? The DYK critic Tony of course, see nom BWV 128, first of several, "English-speakers will be turned off a run of German gobbledy" (German speaker did not know what gobbledy is, but guessed). So whereas normally the translation doesn't make sense, as explained above "gobbledy", in the case of BWV 169 it does, it's a full sentence and the essential line of the piece. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:23, 28 October 2011 (UTC)
- Ah, of course. Gobbledy-gook (gobbledy) basically means text which most people consider incomprehensible; I've seen the same issues on Indonesia-related hooks. Crisco 1492 (talk) 16:28, 28 October 2011 (UTC)
- That's what I guessed. But the Bach cantatas go by their German "titles" worldwide, and I think it might even create curiosity. But repeating: in the case of BWV 169 the title is a full sentence and the essential line of the piece. A translation could be valuable information a reader didn't know, --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:54, 28 October 2011 (UTC)

Fading
Hi Crisco. How's it going. I noticed you passed "Fading (song)" for GA, which is good, but did you know, here [1] it says the article has failed. I guess that's why the article hasn't gotten a little green GA icon yet from the GA Bot. I'm not sure why that would have happened, but just thought I'd let you know. Cheers, Moisejp (talk) 15:51, 31 October 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks for the heads up Moisejp, I was just discussing that with Calvin. I'm perplexed. Crisco 1492 (talk) 15:56, 31 October 2011 (UTC)
- Well, it is listed here [2], so that much is fine. Was probably just a mistyping by whoever does the GA Revision history. Maybe just add the GA icon yourself?? Moisejp (talk) 16:25, 31 October 2011 (UTC)

- A big part of it was that photo. Creeeeepy. I assure you, that thing is just as creepy in person. IvoShandor (talk) 14:40, 2 November 2011 (UTC)
- Even with the lack of statues the Karet Bivak Cemetery still possesses a serene beauty. (Just seeing the photo on the page, never been there).IvoShandor (talk) 09:41, 5 November 2011 (UTC)
- That is indeed a shame. There are a lot of cemeteries in the States that suffer from similar neglect. Someone I know from Wikipedia was actually spurred into action in his hometown and has been restoring a cemetery for several years that was overgrown and neglected. Some amazing local history has come out of that place. His project had a lot to do with the work on historic sites him and I did (and do) on the Wiki. For a sound bite, do you just want a quote or something? I can say a few things: The work that other editors, including User:Crisco 1492 and User:Zagalejo put in on the article and the photo really helped the quality of the piece itself as well as the quality of the DYK. I really didn't intend on doing an article on the statue when I first went to see it, public art and architecture are just something I enjoy so I visited Graceland Cemetery mainly to check out the two Lorado Taft sculptures there and the two Louis Sullivan designed mausoleums. When I came across Eternal Silence I was stopped in my tracks, it literally took my breath away. A week or two later I did the article, and nominated it to DYK, I never intended it to have a Halloween appearance but the DYK regulars pushed it there and I am glad they did. I almost couldn't believe that it got more than 71,000 views, that really put a smile on my face and I can only hope that the effect of the article on others was in some way similar to the effect that the sculpture had on me in person. If they stared at the eerie close up photo long enough, I'm sure it did. (Feel free to break this up and use it how you see fit. I hope that helps.). IvoShandor (talk) 09:59, 5 November 2011 (UTC)
- I just saw it on the prep page for the Signpost. Refactoring is fine by me, it's the gist of what I said anyway. Perhaps some more people will get to enjoy the statue via the Wiki since it will be featured in the Signpost. Great idea! If you ever get a chance to photograph the Jeruk Purut Cemetery do let me know, I would enjoy seeing the place.IvoShandor (talk) 10:13, 5 November 2011 (UTC)
