Hello! I just wrote it, feel free to add some if you want. Is there a template to convert from Celsius to Fahrenheit? That was a great race by the way! I hope you're doing good. :) Mattaidepikiw (Talk) 07:45, 1 October 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks. Yep, it was pretty hectic, including the constant image problems they had because of the weather. It was the last televised race of the year here :( I just thought, the off-season is gonna be a great time to expand the riders' articles and kind of "catch up", I sure will do that once in a while. Mattaidepikiw (Talk) 06:04, 2 October 2012 (UTC)
- Hey, I was wondering if you'd accept a friend invite from me on Facebook. I share cycling stuff and political stuff. That would be great to have a place to chat, even though I'm not there often. Your call! :) Mattaidepikiw (Talk) 23:29, 8 October 2012 (UTC)
- Done! My profile pic is me with a mountain bike, just so you know it's me. Looking forward to talk a bit over there! Mattaidepikiw (Talk) 14:51, 9 October 2012 (UTC)

Article of the month – Tim Richmond - a Good Article
Tim Richmond (June 7, 1955 – August 13, 1989) was an American race car driver from Ashland, Ohio. He competed in IndyCar racing before transferring to NASCAR's Winston Cup Series (now Sprint Cup Series). Richmond was one of the first drivers to change from open wheel racing to NASCAR stock cars full-time, which has since become an industry trend. He won the 1980 Indianapolis 500 Rookie of the Year award and had 13 victories during eight NASCAR seasons. Richmond achieved his top NASCAR season in 1986 when he finished third in points. He won seven races that season, more than any other driver on the tour. When he missed the season-opening Daytona 500 in February 1987, media reported that he had pneumonia. The infection most likely resulted from his compromised immune system, which was weakened by AIDS. The disease drastically shortened his life. Despite the state of his health, Richmond competed in eight races in 1987, winning two events and one pole position before his final race in August of that year. He attempted a comeback in 1988 before NASCAR banned him for testing positive for a banned substance; after NASCAR insisted on access to his entire medical record before reinstating him, Richmond withdrew from racing. NASCAR later stated their original test was inaccurate. Richmond grew up in a wealthy family and lived a freewheeling lifestyle, earning him the nickname "Hollywood". In describing Richmond's influence in racing, Charlotte Motor Speedway president Humpy Wheeler said: "We've never had a race driver like Tim in stock car racing. He was almost a James Dean-like character." When Richmond was cast for a bit part in the 1983 movie Stroker Ace, "He fell right in with the group working on the film," said director Hal Needham. Cole Trickle, the main character in the movie Days of Thunder, played by Tom Cruise, was loosely based on Richmond and his interaction with Harry Hyde and Rick Hendrick. Pro12 Table
I am thinking of creating a template for the 2012/13 Pro12 Table, akin to "2012–13 English Premiership Table (rugby union)". This will allow me to include it in each of the participating teams' pages. I know you do a lot of work on Pro12, so I wanted to run this past you first. Do you see any problems with this idea? Hamish59 (talk) 12:38, 3 November 2012 (UTC)
- Apologies. I have just had a closer look, and realised that is is already a template. D'oh! Hamish59 (talk) 12:43, 3 November 2012 (UTC)

Article of the month – List of red-flagged Formula One races, current Featured List Candidate
Formula One, abbreviated to F1, is the highest class of open-wheeled auto racing defined by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA), motorsport's world governing body. The "formula" in the name refers to a set of rules to which all participants and vehicles must conform. The F1 World Championship season consists of a series of races, known as Grands Prix, usually held on purpose-built circuits, and in a few cases on closed city streets. The results of each race are combined to determine two annual championships, one for drivers and one for constructors. A red flag is shown when there has been an accident or the track conditions are poor enough to warrant the race being stopped. The flags are displayed by the marshals at various points around the circuit. Following a red flag being shown, the exit of the pit lane is closed and cars must proceed to the starting grid slowly, without overtaking. From 2005, a ten-minute warning is given before the race is resumed behind the safety car, which leads the field for a lap before it returns to the pit lane. Previously, the race was restarted in race order from the penultimate lap before the red flag was shown. If a race is unable to be resumed, "the results will be taken at the end of the penultimate lap before the lap during which the signal to suspend the race was given." If 75 per cent of the race distance has not been completed and the race cannot be resumed, half points are awarded. No points are awarded if the race cannot be restarted and less than two laps have been completed. Since the first World Championship Grand Prix in 1950, red flags have been shown in sixty-three races. Twenty-six were restarted on the first lap. Thirteen races, nine stopped because of rain and four due to accidents involving drivers, were not restarted. Three races were stopped due to incidents that resulted in fatalities: The 1975 Spanish Grand Prix was stopped on lap twenty-nine and not restarted after Rolf Stommelen's car crashed into a spectator area, killing five people. The 1982 Canadian Grand Prix was halted on the first lap after Riccardo Paletti was killed when his car collided with the back of Didier Pironi's Ferrari. The 1994 San Marino Grand Prix was red-flagged on lap five following the fatal accident of Ayrton Senna, in which his car crashed into a wall at the Tamburello curve. Article of the month – 2010 Ford 400, a Good Article
The 2010 Ford 400 was a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series stock car race that was held on November 21, 2010 at Homestead Miami Speedway in Homestead, Florida. The 267 lap race was the thirty-sixth in the 2010 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, as well as the final race in the ten-race Chase for the Sprint Cup, which ends the season. The race was won by Carl Edwards for the Roush Fenway Racing team. Jimmie Johnson finished second, and Kevin Harvick clinched third. Pole position driver Kasey Kahne maintained his lead on the first lap of the race. Edwards started in the second position on the grid, and became the leader of the race on the fourth lap. Shortly after a restart on lap 22, championship leader Denny Hamlin spun sideways, resulting with damage to his splitter. Martin Truex, Jr. took the lead on lap 73, but after the final pit stops Edwards was first. He maintained the lead to win the race, having led it for 192 laps. A total of 67,000 people attended the race, while 5.605 million watched it on television. There were ten cautions in the race, as well as twenty-five lead changes among nine different drivers. Edwards' victory was his second win in the 2010 season, with the first coming the previous week at the Kobalt Tools 500. Jimmie Johnson won the Drivers' Championship, 39 points ahead of Denny Hamlin. Johnson's team owner Rick Hendrick won the Owners' Championship. Chevrolet won the Manufacturer Championship with 261 points, 44 points ahead of Toyota. Article of the month – 2012 Formula One season, current Good Article nominee
The 2012 Formula One season was the 63rd season of the Formula One World Championship, a motor racing championship for Formula One cars recognised by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) — the governing body of motorsport — as the highest class of competition for open-wheel racing cars. The season was contested over twenty rounds, which started in Australia on 18 March and ended in Brazil on 25 November. The 2012 season saw the return of the United States Grand Prix, which was held at the Circuit of the Americas, a purpose-built circuit in Austin, Texas. After being cancelled in 2011 due to civil protests, the Bahrain Grand Prix also returned to the calendar. The early season was tumultuous, with seven different drivers winning the first seven races of the championship; a record for the series. It was not until the European Grand Prix in June that a driver, Ferrari's Fernando Alonso, won his second race of the year, and with it, emerged as a championship contender. Alonso maintained his hold on the championship lead for the next seven races, taking his third win in Germany and finishing on the podium in the United Kingdom, Italy and Singapore. However, costly first-lap retirements in Belgium and Japan allowed his rivals to catch up, and defending World Champion Sebastian Vettel — like Alonso, a two-time winner — took the lead in the sixteenth race of the season. Vettel, too, encountered difficulties throughout the season; contact with a backmarker left him to finish outside the points in Malaysia, while alternator failures at the European and Italian Grands Prix cost him valuable points and exclusion from qualifying in Abu Dhabi led him to start from the pit lane. Vettel entered the final race of the season with a thirteen-point lead over Alonso. Alonso needed a podium finish to stand any chance of becoming World Drivers' Champion, but in a race of attrition that finished under the safety car, Vettel finished in sixth place, scoring enough points to win his third consecutive championship, becoming the third driver to do so. In the World Constructors' Championship, Red Bull Racing secured their third consecutive title when Sebastian Vettel finished second at the United States Grand Prix. In addition to seeing seven drivers win the first seven races, the 2012 season broke several records. The calendar for the season included twenty races, breaking the previous record of nineteen, which was first set in 2005. Six current or former World Drivers' Champions — Sebastian Vettel, Fernando Alonso, Jenson Button, Lewis Hamilton, Kimi Räikkönen, and Michael Schumacher — started the season, breaking the record of five established in 1970. Concern following your recent Greg LeMond edits
Hi - I just noticed your recent edits of Greg LeMond, and appreciate your correcting the team affiliations especially. He signed for PDM in late 1987, right (after being contracted to La vie claire through 87, right)? Wondering though if you can help me find a source to include in the article to support it, as I myself was responsible for the error in dates, plus I didn't include material about his racing for Coors Light in the USA and their picking up some of his salary b/c I couldn't remember the details let alone source it. It would be good to have access to actual press to look to in refining the career summary, where this info was/is incorrect still. Thanks.joepaT 18:05, 16 December 2012 (UTC)

Article of the month – Daytona International Speedway
Daytona International Speedway is a race track in Daytona Beach, Florida, United States. Since opening in 1959, it has been the home of the Daytona 500, the most prestigious race in NASCAR. In addition to NASCAR, the track also hosts races of ARCA, AMA Superbike, Grand-Am and Motocross. The track features multiple layouts including the primary 2.5 miles (4.0 km) high speed tri-oval, a 3.56 miles (5.73 km) sports car course, a 2.95 miles (4.75 km) motorcycle course, and a .25 miles (0.40 km) karting and motorcycle flat-track. The track's 180-acre (73 ha) infield includes the 29-acre (12 ha) Lake Lloyd, which has hosted powerboat racing. The speedway is owned and operated by International Speedway Corporation. The track was built in 1958 by NASCAR founder William France Sr. to host racing that was being held at the former Daytona Beach Road Course. His banked design permitted higher speeds and gave fans a better view of the cars. Lights were installed around the track in 1998, and today it is the third largest single lit outdoor sports facility. The speedway has been renovated three times, with the infield renovated in 2004, and the track repaved in 1978 and 2010. Happy New Year!
I left you a message on Facebook about the rider transfers. Mattaidepikiw (Talk) 17:05, 1 January 2013 (UTC)
- Ah OK! What I said:
Happy New Year a bit late! I didn't even drink one drop lol, pretty relax. I started updating Vini Fantini-Selle Italia riders, including the template. I move slowly since while I'm at it, I clean the palmares up, delete dead external links, etc. I also only change the articles of the guys coming IN the team, since we'll encounter the riders leaving as we go updating new teams. Cool?
12:03pm Mathieu Giroux I've done Vini and vacansoleil riders and templates. I'll continue later on, starting in reverse alpha order. Mattaidepikiw (Talk) 19:05, 1 January 2013 (UTC)
- OK, I'm starting the UnitedHealthcare template and riders article at the moment, but I'll leave the rosters on the team pages to you if you don't mind (well, all of them) I am not patient/attentive enough for those, I'm sure I'll screw something up. Mattaidepikiw (Talk) 19:23, 1 January 2013 (UTC)
- I did UHC and Topsport Vlaanderen-Mercator riders (it went swiftly, except writing John Murphy's palmares, but it's fun) I was wondering what to do with this template: Template:SpiderTech-C10 riders. Moving on to Sojasun! Mattaidepikiw (Talk) 20:28, 1 January 2013 (UTC)
- I don't know what AFD means lol. Leaving that to you. Mattaidepikiw (Talk) 20:39, 1 January 2013 (UTC)
- Leaving it to you anyway! :) I'm now at SKY, and I see you have done the template. I did the templates from that point and I am quite positive they are OK (according to the transfer page) since I tripled checked them. I don't know about the managers though... I'll update the SKY individual riders' articles. Mattaidepikiw (Talk) 21:57, 1 January 2013 (UTC)
- I finished SKY's riders' articles, along with updating some palmares and all. I'll take a break (brain boiling) I will continue continue maybe tonight or certainly tomorrow. It's great to not only change the teams, but consult the 3 sources for the palmares that are reliable in my view (French Wiki, cyclingarchives and Cycling Base) I guess the next step would be to create an article for anybody in the World Tour, especially if they are young. (But no hurry) Mattaidepikiw (Talk) 23:06, 1 January 2013 (UTC)
- Just finished Saxo-Bank! You modified Kreuziger already. Anyway, it's going very swift. :) Mattaidepikiw (Talk) 02:14, 2 January 2013 (UTC)
- Well I'm in no rush, as I said it's a great time to update palmareses and take trash out. How come you can't access Facebook? 02:20, 2 January 2013 (UTC) BTW, there is no template for Rusvelo? Mattaidepikiw (Talk) 02:23, 2 January 2013 (UTC)
- Geez you are already at RadioShack? Does that mean the individual articles from the point are all covered? Mattaidepikiw (Talk) 02:28, 2 January 2013 (UTC)
- OK, some IP covered it. I'm on fire, but I take my time, not wanting to make a mistake. Do you see a meteor?? Mattaidepikiw (Talk) 02:43, 2 January 2013 (UTC)
- Orica-GreenEDGE riders done. Where are you at? Starting tomorrow, maybe. It's cool! Mattaidepikiw (Talk) 03:26, 2 January 2013 (UTC)
- OK, just leave me the individual articles, as I said, I'll check the palmares and add good results and delete crap. Maybe tomorrow. Not long after that! :) Mattaidepikiw (Talk) 03:30, 2 January 2013 (UTC)

I did the templates from that point and I am quite positive they are OK (according to the transfer page) since I tripled checked them. I don't know about the managers though... I'll update the SKY individual riders' articles. Mattaidepikiw (Talk) 21:57, 1 January 2013 (UTC)
- I don't know what AFD means lol. Leaving that to you. Mattaidepikiw (Talk) 20:39, 1 January 2013 (UTC)
Thanks
I was just a touch miffed about the equaliser after we had played so well, and to make matters worse, my hometown side Truro City, who were 3–1 up at Welling, conceded a last minute goal to lose 4–3. So it was a bad minute. But commiserations due also to you, after today's Luton bother, and you're minus a manager as well! Or is that good news...? Never a dull moment... ;) Bretonbanquet (talk) 01:29, 6 January 2013 (UTC)
- I thought Solbakken was an odd choice, it just seemed destined to be a failure from the start. But Dean Saunders? I just can't see it working. I quite like him as a person, but he's never really done anything at that level, and did Doncaster no favours. They're doing OK now, but I think League One is quite weak this season. Saunders should probably have got Wrexham promoted, but never managed to do it... O'Driscoll must be a better bet, and his treatment at Forest was a travesty. Forest are becoming a bit of a joke, I think. Curbishley's name pops up quite often, but when is he going to take a job? He must be very rusty by now. I don't think your lot will go down, but I'd be a bit worried about Saunders :/ Bretonbanquet (talk) 14:18, 6 January 2013 (UTC)
- Ha! No, that's exactly what usually happens... We've slipped down a bit because of postponed games etc, but we are unusually far from the relegation zone. There are some pretty poor sides in our division this season. The more I hear about Saunders, the more likely they're saying it is that he'll be your new man. Something odd about it! Bretonbanquet (talk) 22:51, 6 January 2013 (UTC)
- Hartlepool are incredibly bad for some reason, except (amazingly) the day they won at Sheffield United. Well, it looks inevitable then... I wish you chaps the very best of luck!! Bretonbanquet (talk) 23:13, 6 January 2013 (UTC)
- A point is a point! That may be the point that seals a place in the play-offs ;) Bretonbanquet (talk) 23:59, 12 January 2013 (UTC)

Newsletter
Hi Craig. I'm sorry to say that, due to no longer having sufficient time, I must relinquish my newsletter duties. I completely forgot about the latest issue, which I've just realised is several days overdue, but I'm afraid I simply don't have as much time as before to dedicate to it. Hopefully there will be someone else in WP:F1 who will be interested, but please don't feel responsible for continuing it by yourself if you don't want to! Many apologies,—Midgrid(talk) 21:28, 8 January 2013 (UTC)
- Well, that's understandable as well. I'll send send out the latest issue today and then post at Talk:WPF1 to see if anyone is interested in taking it over. Thanks for helping out with the newsletter over the years - I'd forgotten how long it's been running!—Midgrid(talk) 14:42, 9 January 2013 (UTC)

A pint for you!
You do sterling work posting race results: please know that it is appreciated. But if I knew you well enough as a pal to buy you a pint, I'd suggest don't be a dick if someone notices something current through a watchlist without trawling though the whole article. But I'd want to do it trusting it doesn't undermine recognition of great work. Kevin McE (talk) 16:29, 20 January 2013 (UTC) |
- Yep: not long now and Mrs McE will be getting used to seeing the top of my headphone clad bonce over the top of my laptop as I try to pick up something among the gutteral grumblings that constitutes Sporta.be commentary. The three month "talking to my better half season" is almost at an end. (and it looks like gnat's water lager anyway, so should scarcely challenge your balance on a wagon.) Kevin McE (talk) 16:47, 20 January 2013 (UTC)
Vandalism? What are you talking about? I cancelled the second surname "Correia" since it's not required, Brasilian people have two surnames like Spanish people. I think the other surname is used only in official documents, but you can't talk about vandalism in this situation.LegendK (talk) 23:33, 23 January 2013 (UTC)

Article of the month – Harley J. Earl Trophy, a Good Article
The Harley J. Earl Trophy is the trophy presented to the winner of the premier, and season-opening, event of the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR), the Daytona 500. It is named after influential automobile designer Harley Earl, who served as the second commissioner of NASCAR. Earl has been known as the so-called "father of the Corvette" and designer of the Firebird I prototype that adorns the trophy. The trophy is kept on display at the Daytona International Speedway, while a small replica is given to each Daytona 500 winner. Caja Rural
Very helpful edits on the article and I learned from you how to do repeated references too, thank you. I will leave it to you to change the grammatical tense back on Friday :-) [We and their other 2 English speaking fans will probably be the only ones ever to notice.] What was the thinking behind eliminating the Caja Rural–Orbea and Kaiku links? I had included them originally so that ancillary information on those teams could be included in Wikipedia without cluttering the main Caja Rural article. My rationale for including these prior names at all, by the way, is that (i) from speaking to those who follow Spanish and Basque Country cycling and from the tone of some of the relevant articles I have read, it seems clear that Caja Rural is not generally considered to be a 2010 start-up, and (ii) readers doing additional searching will find references such as "Kaiku-Caja Rural" in news prior to 2010 and even rider's team affiliations referring simply to "Caja Rural" in the 1980s (e.g. Marino Lejarreta). Transonic Crayon (talk) 13:40, 20 February 2013 (UTC)
- Basically, what it was to do was to remove links from the team names; just uniform across all teams' team name iterations over the years. The links can remain in the body of the text, but usually avoid them in the infoboxes. That's all. Craig(talk) 19:16, 20 February 2013 (UTC)
- OK, I understand the rationale now, thanks. Transonic Crayon (talk) 19:47, 20 February 2013 (UTC)

Article of the month – 2010 Emory Healthcare 500, a new Good Article
The 2010 Emory Healthcare 500 was a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series stock car race that was held on September 5, 2010 at Atlanta Motor Speedway in Hampton, Georgia. Contested over 325 laps, it was the twenty-fifth race of the 2010 Sprint Cup Series season. The race was won by Tony Stewart, for the Stewart Haas Racing team. Carl Edwards finished second, and Jimmie Johnson, who started seventh, clinched third. Pole position driver Denny Hamlin maintained his lead on the first lap to begin the race, as Ryan Newman, who started in the second position remained behind him. Afterward, Newman became the leader. On lap 128, Hamlin had an engine failure, finishing forty-third. Later in the race Tony Stewart led a race high of seventy-five laps. Stewart retained the first position on a final restart to clinch his third win at Atlanta Motor Speedway. There were eight cautions and twenty-seven lead changes among nine different drivers throughout the course of the race. It was Tony Stewart's first win of the season and the thirty-eighth of his career. The result moved him up two spots to fourth in the Drivers' Championship, 283 points behind of leader Kevin Harvick and fourteen ahead of Carl Edwards. Chevrolet maintained its lead in the Manufacturers' Championship, thirty-two ahead of Toyota and sixty-six ahead of Ford, with eleven races remaining in the season. A total of 93,200 people attended the race, while 5.516 million watched it on television. UCI World Tour race articles
Hey Cs,
I have a comment and a question relating to your work on the UCI World Tour articles. Well for one, you have done an impeccable with writing the stage summaries and my question concerns the articles that you have worked on: are you planning on submitting each article for GA? Cause they're certainly GA level and worthy. Disc Wheel (Malk + Montributions) 20:27, 11 March 2013 (UTC)
- Haha that's very true. I'm just saying your work with all the race articles in general is definite GA work and they should pass easy. But I feel ya, I remember I did the stage write ups for one of the Tour's maybe 09 or 10 and I just got sick of it after nine or ten stages so I give you props for charging through it my man. Disc Wheel (Malk + Montributions) 02:26, 12 March 2013 (UTC)
Okay I see you on the GA noms now. They take forever to get reviewed from my experience. I've got five up at the moment and once they go through I'm gonna try and nominate the Giro page itself once I've made some other refinements. But wow yeah so I guess you're reading the cycling news articles to catch up then and again you're doin' work on the pages. Much respect. Disc Wheel (Malk + Montributions) 03:23, 14 March 2013 (UTC)
- Yeah I know the videos you're talking about, yeah it isn't the same though. My computer has trouble loading most of the cycling videos that I try to watch on youtube so I've given up on trying to watch the races that NBC Sports doesn't show - provided that I'm not busy and can watch them. Disc Wheel (Malk + Montributions) 20:41, 15 March 2013 (UTC)
To be honest dude I haven't seen much outside of the Tour since the switch from Versus to NBC. But I know that they have the annoying commentators for life of me I cant think of the other guy one is Liam McHugh... and the other guy that helps with the rebroadcast - not Bobke. Sherwen and Liggett for sure do the Tour but they occasionally do the other races like the TDU and TDC I think. I haven't been watching much lately as you can tell. Disc Wheel (Malk + Montributions) 01:22, 16 March 2013 (UTC)
Pro 12 Round by Round
As per 2012 Six Nations Championship and 2013 Six Nations Championship, one of the reasons the round by rounf standings was disagreed with was because of the small amount of matches played, and I agree with that. The pro 12 has alot more mathes (22 to be exact) and each week dose have sigifigant changes in the standings. This is why the round by round table should be aloud. Based on your point of you saying it is a waste of space. Well on that, alot of items across Wikipedia is a waste of space, why single out this article?? Article of the month – Auto Club Speedway, a Good Article
Auto Club Speedway (formerly California Speedway) is a two-mile (3 km), low-banked, D-shaped oval superspeedway in Fontana, California which has hosted NASCAR racing annually since 1997. The track was also used for open wheel racing events until 2005. The racetrack is located near the former locations of Ontario Motor Speedway and Riverside International Raceway. The track is owned and operated by International Speedway Corporation and is the only track owned by ISC to have naming rights sold. The speedway is served by the nearby Interstate 10 and Interstate 15 freeways as well as a Metrolink station located behind the backstretch. Construction of the track, on the site of the former Kaiser Steel Mill, began in 1995 and was completed in late 1996. The speedway has a grandstand capacity of 91,200 and 28 skyboxes. In 2006, a fanzone was added behind the main grandstand. Lights were added to the speedway in 2004 with the addition of a second annual NASCAR weekend. In 2011 and 2012 the track hosted only one NASCAR weekend. The IZOD Indycar Series returned to the track in 2012 with the season finale race (a 500 mile night race); it ran a 400 mile race from 2002–05 at the track.
