Issues with coon songs
The problem with your edits is that by saying they became popular with white men & women, the implication is that blacks and whites sang them. Maybe a few black men sang them, but the genre was created by and sung by white people. Your emendations imply that both races sang them equally but they were more popular with white performers. - kosboot (talk) 12:08, 28 April 2020 (UTC)
- I didn't add anything about African Americans singing coon songs in the edit to which you refer. The edit I added summarized content from the article and emphasized that white people were performing and recording the songs. "The genre became extremely popular, with white men giving performances in blackface and making recordings. White women known as coon shouters also gained popularity." It says nothing of Black performers and I don't know how you reach the conclusion that African Americans performed the songs equally from those statements. I am not opposed to adding a clarification that there were also some African American performers of the genre if it's helpful. FloridaArmy (talk) 12:40, 28 April 2020 (UTC)
- No you didn't say it directly but the way you phrased it implies it. I might alter what you wrote in the lead paragraph to make it clearer. - kosboot (talk) 13:26, 28 April 2020 (UTC)
