New Page Reviewer Newsletter
Backlog update:
- The new page backlog is currently at 18,511 pages. We have worked hard to decrease from over 22,000, but more hard work is needed! Please consider reviewing even just a few pages a a day.
- Some editors are committing to work specifically on patrolling new pages on 15 July. If you have not reviewed new pages in a while, this might be a good time to be involved. Please remember that quality of patrolling is more important than quantity, that the speedy deletion criteria should be followed strictly, and that ovetagging for minor issues should be avoided.
Technology update:
- Several requests have been put into Phabractor to increase usability of the New Pages Feed and the Page Curation toolbar. For more details or to suggest improvements go to Wikipedia:Page Curation/Suggested improvements
- The tutorial has been updated to include links to the following useful userscripts. If you were not aware of them, they could be useful in your efforts reviewing new pages:
- User:Lourdes/PageCuration.js adds a link to the new pages feed and page curation toolbar to your top toolbar on Wikipedia
- User:The Earwig/copyvios.js adds a link in your side toolbox that will run the current page through
General project update:
- Following discussion at Wikipedia talk:New pages patrol/Reviewers, Wikipedia:New pages patrol/Noticeboard has been marked as historical. Wikipedia talk:New pages patrol/Reviewers is currently the most active central discussion forum for the New Page Patrol project. To keep up to date on the most recent discussions you can add it to your watchlist or visit it periodically.

Requesting reassessment of Oleg Bezuglov
Dear FriyMan,
I noticed that you've been active in reviewing new pages and also a member of the Wiki Russia editorial community. I wanted to ask you to review Oleg Bezuglov article. It was initially assessed as Start and Low shortly after creation and was missing a good amount of data and sources. It was even nominated for deletion and was kept after AfD. Since the article was substantially improved, I thought the review might give assign a better ranking to it now. I initially put the request in the Wiki projects: Russia Assessment requests section, but it didn't call anyone's attention so far.
Thank you for your consideration, --Fiddler11 18:13, 15 July 2017 (UTC)
- Sorry for a delay Fidler11 but I have checked your article. I graded it as C-class and low on importance scale. I believe that you have the power to improve this article even further. Cheers, FriyMan talk 12:57, 17 July 2017 (UTC)
Thanks much, FriyMan! I will keep working on it --Fiddler11 04:23, 26 July 2017 (UTC)

Articles you might like to edit, from SuggestBot
SuggestBot predicts that you will enjoy editing some of these articles. Have fun!
Note: All columns in this table are sortable, allowing you to rearrange the table so the articles most interesting to you are shown at the top. All images have mouse-over popups with more information. For more information about the columns and categories, please consult the documentation and please get in touch on SuggestBot's talk page with any questions you might have.
SuggestBot picks articles in a number of ways based on other articles you've edited, including straight text similarity, following wikilinks, and matching your editing patterns against those of other Wikipedians. It tries to recommend only articles that other Wikipedians have marked as needing work. Your contributions make Wikipedia better — thanks for helping.
If you have feedback on how to make SuggestBot better, please tell me on SuggestBot's talk page. Thanks from Nettrom (talk), SuggestBot's caretaker. -- SuggestBot (talk) 15:26, 18 July 2017 (UTC)
Thank you
Hey, thanks for the comments/advice you left on my peer review request for Tracer. I added the alt text (my first time doing so for any article, so I'm not certain if I did it correctly) and the see also section. For your 3rd suggestion, I already included her real name, Lena Oxton, in the lead section. But are you suggeting I include it immediately after her Tracer pseudonym? Thanks again for all the help & have a great day :^) Soulbust (talk) 19:29, 20 July 2017 (UTC)
- Yeah, Soulbust, I meant you would put it immediately after the pseudonym. I will check the alt texts for you. Good luck. Cheers, FriyMan Per aspera ad astra 19:57, 20 July 2017 (UTC)
P.S. I think the last alt text is not appropriate, since I believe captions are not voiced over, when the article is read through.
- Done I fixed these issues. Soulbust (talk) 20:11, 20 July 2017 (UTC)

Problems
- Some pages show the error
Lua error in mw.wikibase.entity.lua at line 34: The entity data must be a table obtained via mw.wikibase.getEntityObject
. This problem happens on pages with a Lua module that uses Wikidata. The developers are working on fixing the problem. You can fix a page by opening it for editing and then saving without changing anything. [10] - Wikidata and German Wikipedia could not be edited for an hour on 28 July. You can read why and how we could avoid it in the future in the incident report.
Changes later this week
- Some wikis already have the larger and brighter OOjs UI edit page buttons. All remaining wikis except Commons will have these from 1 August. [11]
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 1 August. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 2 August. It will be on all wikis from 3 August (calendar).

You can learn more about the research plan at meta:Research:Autoconfirmed article creation trial. The exact start date of the experiment has yet to be determined.
- A new speedy deletion criterion, regarding articles created as a result undisclosed paid editing, is currently being discussed (permalink).
- An RfC (permalink) is currently open that proposes expanding WP:G13 to include all drafts, even if they weren't submitted through Articles for Creation.
- LoginNotify should soon be deployed to the English Wikipedia. This will notify users when there are suspicious login attempts on their account.

Recent changes
- You can now see which Wikipedia language versions are read in a specific country. This tool is called Wikipedia Views Visualized. [13]
- The Architecture Committee is now the Wikimedia Technical Committee. You can read the charter. [14]
Problems
- You can get an email when a page on your watchlist was edited. You can choose not to get emails for minor edits. There is a bug that means that you then don't get an email when someone does a normal edit after a minor edit. The developers are working on fixing this. Until it has been fixed you can activate "Email me also for minor edits of pages and files" at the bottom of "User profile" in your preferences if you want to. [15]
- The thanks button sometimes didn't work for mobile users. This was because of a new bug and has now been fixed. [16]
Changes later this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 8 August. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 9 August. It will be on all wikis from 10 August (calendar).
Future changes
- Editors and readers who still use Internet Explorer 8 on Windows XP will not be able to use Wikipedia. Internet Explorer 8 on Windows XP can't connect securely to the wikis. When we allow them to do so it means that we get less security for everyone else. If you use Internet Explorer 8 on Windows XP you can install Firefox 52 ESR instead. Around 0.1% of the traffic to the Wikimedia wikis comes from Internet Explorer 8 on Windows XP. [17]
- Links to sections on Wikipedia don't work well in languages that don't use the Latin script. The URL in the address bar in your browser shows Latin characters like
.D0.A1.D1.81.D1.8B.D0.BB.D0.BA.D0.B8
instead of the section heading in the wiki's language. Links to sections in non-Latin scripts will be in the script of that wiki in the future. This will happen in the next few months. [18][19] - Wiki pages printed by the web browser "Print" function will have an updated style. This new style will be similar to the when you download a page as PDF. It will be better at showing tables, infoboxes and headings. [20][21]

from artist fuoco9, ( rob camp fuoco) ,
dear friend friman,
this is a request to ask for mentoring and assistance.
i find the wikipedia system a bit confusing , and i think i have a simple request. I'm wondering if you could give me the pathway to accomplish what I'm trying to do.
two years ago i wanted to catalogue some of my achievements as an artist and historic gardens consultant. i produced a very logical history of my work. i submitted it to wikipedia and subsequently learned that we can't create our own autobiography on wikipedia. i have no problem with that at all.
however , the article was deleted. and now i would simply like to retrieve it so that i can use all the information for a reference.
can you help me to retrieve the information? it was done under my wikipedia name Fuoco9. i am actually rob camp fuoco.
thanks for your help.

- Hello, Fuoco9! I would be happy to assist you with anything you need help with. For now, if you want to grasp the most basic ways of editing I suggest you go through the great guide for beginner editors, The Wikipedia Adventure. If you have questions, message me here. Supermarine Spitfire
Hello:
The copy edit that you requested from the Guild of Copy Editors of the article Supermarine Spitfire has been completed.
Thank you for the Barnstar - very much appreciated. The article was in very good shape. Sometimes all that is needed is one set of eyes to go over a longer article to correct the anomalies that inevitably "creep in" over the years. It certainly does deserve its "Good Article" status.
I ran a Bot to add archival links to the URLs used in the article which will prevent "link rot" issues.
Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
Regards,
Twofingered Typist (talk) 21:37, 16 August 2017 (UTC)

- You can now test the new Timeless skin on the test wiki and mediawiki.org. You can turn it on in your preferences. You can report bugs in Phabricator. It will come to more wikis soon. [25][26]
- Your watchlist can now have the option to unwatch pages. You have to turn this on in your preferences. [27]
- If a table has several columns you can often choose which column you want to use to sort the table. This has not worked for some columns for readers who have used Firefox or Safari. This has now been fixed. [28]
- The RelatedArticles extension has shown related pages on Wikivoyages. You will now see the related pages at the end of the article together with an image. Previously the links were in the sidebar. Wikis that want this extension can request it on Phabricator.
Changes later this week
- Videos will now be played in the WebM format in all browsers. Previously some browsers used Ogg Theora (.ogv). If you use Safari, Internet Explorer or Edge you may see slower playback speed at high resolutions. Instead we will get better quality and smaller file size. You can still upload video as Ogg files. They are automatically converted to WebM. This doesn't affect Ogg audio files. [29]
- The default font in the edit window will change for some users this week. Instead of using the browser default, it will be monospace. Users can change this in their preferences. This should only change this for some users on Macs and iOS devices. [30]

Marcus Bosch
Thank you for the review Template:Did you know nominations/Marcus Bosch. As it's closed, I put my answers here:
- No, most readers of such a topic will know, and be bored by an explanation, and the others can read the linked article.
- "Other recordings", - tried to avoid repetition.
- It's like that in all sources, sorry. Other conductors come from being a singer, but he went the tedious path of first doing assistant jobs.
- Do we need commas in "He conducted as a guest orchestras"? He conducted, as a guest, orchestras?
- I haven't checked if that's yearly. Does it matter?
- Fixed, thank you! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:28, 22 August 2017 (UTC)

Future changes
- In the future you will have global preferences. This means you could set something in your preferences to work in the same way on all wikis. You will not be forced to use global preferences. The developers are now asking if editors need exceptions. This is where you want to use global settings on almost all wikis, but have some wikis where you want it to work in a different way. If you want this you need to tell the developers now. You can do so on the talk page. [36]
- New filters for edit review is a beta feature to improve recent changes pages. It will work on watchlists from 5 September. [37]
- The jQuery library will be upgraded to version 3 in September 2017. Wikis can ask on Phabricator to get it early, so they can help find and solve problems now.

New Page Reviewer Newsletter
Backlog update:
- The new page backlog is currently at 14304 pages. We have worked hard to decrease from over 22,000, but more hard work is needed! Please consider reviewing even just a few pages a day.
- Currently there are 532 pages in the backlog that were created by non-autoconfirmed users before WP:ACTRIAL. The NPP project is undertaking a drive to clear these pages from the backlog before they hit the 90 day Google index point. Please consider reviewing a few today!
Technology update:
- The Wikimedia Foundation is currently working on creating a new filter for page curation that will allow new page patrollers to filter by extended confirmed status. For more information see: T175225
General project update:
- On 14 September 2017 the English Wikipedia began the autoconfirmed article creation trial. For a six month period, creation of articles in the mainspace of the English Wikipedia will be restricted to users with autoconfirmed status. New users who attempt article creation will now be redirected to a newly designed landing page.
- Before clicking on a reference or external link while reviewing a page, please be careful that the site looks trustworthy. If you have a question about the safety of clicking on a link, it is better not to click on it.
- To keep up with the latest conversation on New Pages Patrol or to ask questions, you can go to Wikipedia talk:New pages patrol/Reviewers and add it to your watchlist.

- Following a successful proposal to create it, a new user right called "edit filter helper" is now assignable and revocable by administrators. The right allows non-administrators to view the details of private edit filters, but not to edit them.
- Following a discussion about mass-application of ECP and how the need for logging and other details of an evolving consensus may have been missed by some administrators, a rough guide to extended confirmed protection has been written. This information page describes how the extended-confirmed aspects of the protection policy are currently being applied by administrators.
- You can now search for IP ranges at Special:Contributions. Some log pages and Special:DeletedContributions are not yet supported. Wildcards (e.g. 192.168.0.*) are also not supported, but the popular contribsrange gadget will continue to work.
- Community consultation on the 2017 candidates for CheckUser and Oversight has concluded. The Arbitration Committee will appoint successful candidates by October 11.
- A request for comment is open regarding the structure, rules, and procedures of the December 2017 Arbitration Committee election, and how to resolve any issues not covered by existing rules.

Alexandru I. Lapedatu
Dear FriyMan, thanks for your answer. I understand the policy, and it makes sense. It is true that the name of this person has been written in various forms, and recently several publications tend to use the simplified form of his name, omitting the father initial (I.). The prime references we use, like the volume published in his (and his twin brother's honour) in 1936 names him Alexandru I. Lapedatu (reference Crăciun, I.: “Alex. I. Lapedatu. Note bio-bibliografice / Alex. I. Lapedatu. Bio-Bibliographical Notes). Likewise, the medal minted in 1936 in his honour is also writing his name "Alexandru I. Lapedatu" - we intend to add it as an illustration at some point. Furthermore, the article in his native language (Romanian) uses as title the form "Alexandru I. Lapedatu". Interestingly enough, his twin brother conserved the father's initial even in Wikipedia, and is named "Ion I. Lapedatu" even in recent publications, probably because his father was also Ioan Lapedatu - the initial helps keeping them apart. Our strong preference is obviously to write the names of the two twin brothers in a similar manner, and would appreciate if you would agree with us - but we understand that this is not the only possible viewpoint. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ioana Maior (talk • contribs) 19:38, 10 October 2017 (UTC)
- Hello once again, Ioana Maior! Firstly, I recommend to respond to threads on your own talk. Secondly, sadly, I think Huon has the point here. You are right, our page on Ion Lapedatu is named Ion I. Lapedatu to distingush from his father. But once again, Huon is right. Sources do refer to him as Alexandru Lapedatu and, according to the WP:UCRN, we will have to keep the page as Alexandru Lapedatu. I hope your question has been resolved. Administrators' newsletter – December 2017
News and updates for administrators from the past month (November 2017).
- Following a request for comment, a new section has been added to the username policy which disallows usernames containing emoji, emoticons or otherwise "decorative" usernames, and usernames that use any non-language symbols. Administrators should discuss issues related to these types of usernames before blocking.
- Wikimedians are now invited to vote on the proposals in the 2017 Community Wishlist Survey on Meta Wiki until 10 December 2017. In particular, there is a section of the survey regarding new tools for administrators and for anti-harassment.
- A new function is available to edit filter managers which can be used to store matches from regular expressions.
- Voting in the 2017 Arbitration Committee elections is open until Sunday 23:59, 10 December 2017 (UTC). There are 12 candidates running for 8 vacant seats.
- Over the last few months, several users have reported backlogs that require administrator attention at WP:ANI, with the most common backlogs showing up on WP:SPI, WP:AIV and WP:RFPP. It is requested that all administrators take some time during this month to help clear backlogs wherever possible. It should be noted that AIV reports are not always valid; however, they still need to be cleared, which may include needing to remind users on what qualifies as vandalism.
- The Wikimedia Foundation Community health initiative is conducting a survey for English Wikipedia contributors on their experience and satisfaction level with Administrator’s Noticeboard/Incidents. This survey will be integral to gathering information about how this noticeboard works (i.e. which problems it deals with well and which problems it struggles with). If you would like to take this survey, please sign up on this page, and a link for the survey will be emailed to you via Special:EmailUser.
ArbCom 2017 election voter message
Hello, FriyMan. Voting in the 2017 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 10 December. All users who registered an account before Saturday, 28 October 2017, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Wednesday, 1 November 2017 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
If you wish to participate in the 2017 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 18:42, 3 December 2017 (UTC)

Adoption
Hello there, I am a slightly inexperienced user looking for a mentor to help learn things about Wikipedia. I have been unblocked very recently with a special 1 Revert Rule which must be noted. I also have a topic ban as well. Could you please consider adopting me so that I can get better at using Wikipedia. I am particularly interested in counter-vandalism. Please get back to me as soon as possible. Thank you in advance. Pablothepenguin (talk) 20:52, 7 December 2017 (UTC)
- Hello, Pablothepenguin, Do not worry, I can adopt you. If you are interested in Counter-Vandalsim, I can help you, too. Let's begin. I will make a dedicated subpage for you, where you can ask me any questions you want. Firstly, read a few pages, such as WP:5P, WP:CIV and WP:EW. - Well. Eating cheesburgers? -maybe. Annoying me? -maybe! But most of all, the good work you do here! Re. your Spitfire below, may I suggest peer review? People might look like they're ripping it to shreds, but they give you a laundry-list of things to do which make it almost certain (hopefully!) that you then sail through FAR because all the things that would usually be thrown at you have already been dealt with. This isn't any sort of criticism, just that that way you hae a central page that lots of people watch, rather than waiting for people to come here :) Best of luck with it though, and I hope you don't think I'm being rude! Take care! SerialNumber54129...speculates 07:42, 8 December 2017 (UTC)

- Yes, @MilHist, always solid of course. But PR will get you a broader range of views, that's all- remember, FAR isn't project specific, so it's probably worth getting views from outside MH. Amyway. SerialNumber54129...speculates 07:59, 8 December 2017 (UTC)

Supermarine Spitfire
Hello:
I copy edited the article to the end of the Speed and altitude records section.
I have come across the following "issues" so far which I'm drawing to your attention.
Origins
"The Type 224 was a big disappointment to Mitchell and his design team" – needs elaboration
Airframe
I can see the confusion over the number of frames. The section begins stating there is a skeleton of 19 frames, but later says frame 20 was the last in the fuselage and then that the tail section included frames 21-23. I have added “vertical” for clarity. Could this issue be resolved by simply saying the skeleton had 23 frames?
Armament
I can’t figure out why there is a "but" in this sentence. "A variant on the Spitfire design with four 20 mm Oerlikon cannon had been tendered to specification F37/35, but the order for prototypes had gone to the Westland Whirlwind in January 1939.[5]"
By the way, I don't necessarily agree with, or understand some of the comments.
I will try to get back to the article as time allows. Have a look through what I've done so far and let me know if you see any issues.

2017 Military Historian of the Year and Newcomer of the Year nominations and voting
As we approach the end of the year, the Military History project is looking to recognise editors who have made a real difference. Each year we do this by bestowing two awards: the Military Historian of the Year and the Military History Newcomer of the Year. The co-ordinators invite all project members to get involved by nominating any editor they feel merits recognition for their contributions to the project. Nominations for both awards are open between 00:01 on 2 December 2017 and 23:59 on 15 December 2017. After this, a 14-day voting period will follow commencing at 00:01 on 16 December 2017. Nominations and voting will take place on the main project talkpage: here and here. Thank you for your time. For the co-ordinators, MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 08:35, 8 December 2017 (UTC)
Supermarine Spitfire - 2
Hello:
I've finished going through the article and found only one additional issue to draw to your attention.
Overview
The machine guns are converted so a .303 becomes a 7.7mm – surely they were never called 7.7mm guns? If not, the conversions are unnecessary.
Griffon-engined variants
Another cannon conversion.
I had some time so I added a few citations for you.
A few other thoughts:
- I don't think the last paragraph in the Origins Section is too long. It's discussing the fixes made on one plane—these can be in a single paragraph.
- "Although Morris Motors," ... "it was funded by government money." the use of "although" as in even though, or in spite of is fine.
Let me know if you have any concerns.
Regards

- Thanks once again, Twofingered Typist! I will get working on references today. I have no more concerns. Thank you for your amazing work. Cheers, FriyMan Per aspera ad astra 08:14, 9 December 2017 (UTC)

New Page Reviewer Newsletter
Backlog update:
- The new page backlog is currently at 12713 pages. Please consider reviewing even just a few pages each day! If everyone helps out, it will really put a dent in the backlog.
- Currently the backlog stretches back to March and some pages in the backlog have passed the 90 day Google index point. Please consider reviewing some of them!
Outreach and Invitations:
- If you know other editors with a good understanding of Wikipedia policy, invite them to join NPP by dropping the invitation template on their talk page with:
{{subst:NPR invite}}
. Adding more qualified reviewers will help with keeping the backlog manageable.
New Year New Page Review Drive
- A backlog drive is planned for the start of the year, beginning on January 1st and running until the end of the month. Unique prizes will be given in tiers for both the total number of reviews made, as well as the longest 'streak' maintained.
- Note: quality reviewing is extremely important, please do not sacrifice quality for quantity.
General project update:
- ACTRIAL has resulted in a significant increase in the quality of new submissions, with noticeably fewer CSD, PROD, and BLPPROD candidates in the new page feed. However, the majority of the backlog still dates back to before ACTRIAL started, so consider reviewing articles from the middle or back of the backlog.
- The NPP Browser can help you quickly find articles with topics that you prefer to review from within the backlog.
- To keep up with the latest conversation on New Pages Patrol or to ask questions, you can go to Wikipedia talk:New pages patrol/Reviewers and add it to your watchlist.

Adoption
Hello, FriyMan. Are you still accepting adoptees? If you are, would you be willing to adopt me? I've been editing Wikipedia for a few months now, but I still don't have a very good understanding of how to do it. I think I would benefit from some mentorship. Thanks. - Sorry, I think I am busy with one student right now. I think you can find another teacher. Cheers, FriyMan Per aspera ad astra 08:14, 14 December 2017 (UTC)

User group for Military Historians
Greetings,
"Military history" is one of the most important subjects when speak of sum of all human knowledge. To support contributors interested in the area over various language Wikipedias, we intend to form a user group. It also provides a platform to share the best practices between military historians, and various military related projects on Wikipedias. An initial discussion was has been done between the coordinators and members of WikiProject Military History on English Wikipedia. Now this discussion has been taken to Meta-Wiki. Contributors intrested in the area of military history are requested to share their feedback and give suggestions at Talk:Discussion to incubate a user group for Wikipedia Military Historians.

Concerns with mentoring
Hi - I have a number of concerns about the mentoring you are attempting at User:FriyMan/AAU/Pablothepenguin.
- You described edits where the editor had "
forgot the sources or maybe he added superfluous information not realising that it wasn’t strictly necessary
" as "test edits". They are not. - You suggested a recently unblocked editor, who is currently on a 1RR restriction, should apply for rollback. It should have been obvious to you such a request would fail.
- You describe IAR as an important policy the editor should follow ("
So, here is the most important one: WP:IAR
") - the editor was blocked for either edit warring or violating topic bans. Encouraging the editor to IAR isn't helpful. - You tell the editor "
P.S. You have the right to violate 1RR when reverting obvious vandalism!
". I note you asked at ANI if an editor could violate a 1RR restriction. Do you truly believe that the editor in question has the competency to identify "blatant vandalism", especially given the repeated blocks and inability to understand block reasons?
My advice would be to stop mentoring and allowing a more experienced editor to take over. I personally don't think Pablothepenguin is going to benefit from any mentoring (that ship has sailed), let alone help which is fundamentally poorly executed -- There'sNoTime (to explain) 13:47, 21 December 2017 (UTC)

New Years new page backlog drive
Announcing the NPP New Year Backlog Drive!
We have done amazing work so far in December to reduce the New Pages Feed backlog by over 3000 articles! Now is the time to capitalise on our momentum and help eliminate the backlog!
The backlog drive will begin on January 1st and run until January 29th. Prize tiers and other info can be found HERE.
Awards will be given in tiers in two categories:
- The total number of reviews completed for the month.
- The minimum weekly total maintained for all four weeks of the backlog drive.
NOTE: It is extremely important that we focus on quality reviewing. Despite our goal of reducing the backlog as much as possible, please do not rush while reviewing.

Adopt-a-user - your availability
Hello. Could I ask you to check and, if necessary, update your availability details at Wikipedia:Adopt-a-user/Adoptee's Area/Adopters, please?
I've been updating that page, plus the list of over 100 people seeking adoption (which I've now stripped down to around 20 active editors genuinely seeking help.
I've been working to identify those Adopters who are currently available, and those who haven't been active on Wikipedia for a while. But I don't think the bot has been updating correctly, so a manual check from you would be really helpful. I've also made some suggestions and a few edits to make life easier for newcomers. I've put some of my observations down in answer to a recent post about inactivity of some Adopt-a-User Project contributors. Regards from the UK, Nick Moyes (talk) 00:42, 29 January 2018 (UTC)

- An RfC has closed with a consensus that candidates at WP:RFA must disclose whether they have ever edited for pay and that administrators may never use administrative tools as part of any paid editing activity, except when they are acting as a Wikipedian-in-Residence or when the payment is made by the Wikimedia Foundation or an affiliate of the WMF.
- Editors responding to threats of harm can now contact the Wikimedia Foundation's emergency address by using Special:EmailUser/Emergency. If you don't have email enabled on Wikipedia, directly contacting the emergency address using your own email client remains an option.
- A tag will now be automatically applied to edits that blank a page, turn a page into a redirect, remove/replace almost all content in a page, undo an edit, or rollback an edit. These edits were previously denoted solely by automatic edit summaries.
- The Arbitration Committee has enacted a change to the discretionary sanctions procedure which requires administrators to add a standardized editnotice when placing page restrictions. Editors cannot be sanctioned for violations of page restrictions if this editnotice was not in place at the time of the violation.
