Question

Hi, I'm not trying to be a p.i.t.a, but I wanted to ask if you could clarify a decision you made at WP:AIV today. I'm not necessarily challenging it, it's just that you removed 9 reports all at once with a brief edit summary that mainly focused on only the last report. I know you guys are busy, but would you mind taking at look again and letting me know why no action was taken for [user:Eleanoraduse]? (4th from the top) Thanks - theWOLFchild 03:36, 13 February 2016 (UTC)

@Thewolfchild: There are obvious problems with that editor, but it's not clear that it's a deliberate attempt to compromise the integrity of Wikipedia. At least some of their edits appear to be in good faith and attempts at adding useful information to the encyclopaedia. They need somebody to explain the policies to them and failing that more in-depth discussion at a venue like ANI. AIV is intended for vandals who can and should be blocked on just a cursory examination of their contributions. As a rule of thumb, if a report has been there for more than five minutes it's not going to get actioned at AIV; a report of an obvious vandal is likely to be actioned within a minute. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 18:40, 16 February 2016 (UTC)
Fair enough, thanks for the reply. If I see anymore problems with that user, perhaps I'll recommend they look into the wiki-adoption program. Cheers. - theWOLFchild 18:43, 16 February 2016 (UTC)

Thanks, George, I've put it on long-term semi. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 18:49, 16 February 2016 (UTC)

One more thing

I just noticed you're an Oversighter. Could you take a look at these contribs? It's a new user who has added his cell phone number as his edit summaries. A quick check on Google confirms it. (That's if it's him... it could be a troll) Either way, this is the kind of thing you guys deal with, correct? Thanks again - theWOLFchild 03:46, 13 February 2016 (UTC)

Generally we don't suppress personal information that an adult discloses about themselves, especially if they've already disclosed it elsewhere; I've made an exception in this case because they're new and might not realise the permanence of edit summaries. Also, just for future reference, it's better to send things like this by email, either to the whole oversight team (oversight-en-wp@wikipedia.org; Special:EmailUser/Oversight) or if you prefer to me specifically (hjmwiki@gmail.com; Special:EmailUser/HJ Mitchell), just to avoid drawing any more attention to it. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 18:46, 16 February 2016 (UTC)
I think this is only the first (or maybe second) time I've come across something like this. Now I know for next time. Thanks again. - theWOLFchild 18:55, 16 February 2016 (UTC)

Help?

Hi. Can someone help out? An editor is repeatedly deleting text that is footnoted to major media like the New York Times, and attracted an editorial by the New York Daily News. Because the editor calls it "minor"???

I don't want to fight with this person. The editor is edit warring slow motion. Deleting swaths of reliable newspaper supported information, without any honest rationale. Editing like someone who has a conflict of interest. And the editor seems to have done this sort of thing before.

I left my reasons why their deletion made no sense in my edit summary ("this is all properly cited, to sources such as The New York Times, and by its coverage clearly not minor ...") and on the article talk page. And waited awhile to re-install the NY Times reliable newspaper information. But the editor just deleted it all again anyway, saying they had read the articles ("the difference is I actually read the article"; that makes no sense). They simply seem to want to delete the reliable newspaper supported facts that the public official admitted violating the New York City conflict-of-interest law and was fined, and that The New York Daily News wrote an opinion piece saying: "By all rights, were justice equal in New York government, Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito would be out of her job today." The editor calls all that "minor."

I think its obviously better to have someone else look at it. I can't handle this editor just edit warring with me, even in slow motion. They are being totally unreasonable.

User:Bagumba blocked this editor most recently -- for edit warring. Saying "Editor understands that further EW will lead to longer if not WP:INDEF blocks". But I can't seem to be able to leave a note on his talk page.

You also blocked the editor in the past yourself -- for edit warring.

And before you, User:Spinningspark -- for edit warring.

And before that, User:TParis -- for edit warring.

Thank you. --199.102.168.8 (talk) 02:55, 17 February 2016 (UTC)

And now the editor I mentioned is hounding me

I mentioned to you before an editor that you had blocked for edit warring was doing the same with me. https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:HJ_Mitchell&diff=prev&oldid=705373183

And after I left word on the talk page of that article, the editor simply followed/hounded me immediately to an article I had just edited. That had nothing to do wiht the first one. And immediately deleted the addition I had just made. Once again, without any rationale basis. Just as at the prior article. So now he is not just edit warring with me, with (frankly) BS "rationale," but also following/hounding me. Can someone please address this? I'm just getting bullied around by a guy who has been blocked a number of times. And is clearly being unreasonable. Thank you.

Previously you mass-protected Interstate Highway articles. Would you please restore the protection? Our friend Link Smurf is back. –Fredddie 19:00, 27 February 2016 (UTC)

Sure, I've semi'd them all for a month. Let me know if that doesn't do the trick. And if there are any articles that don't need protection, let me know that too—the mass protection affects 96 articles but I'm not sure how many of them our friend frequents. Hi, I find it disappointing that you didn't respond at all to the de-adminship request and the prior discussion. You could have apologized for your comment at the Wilfredor RfA, or could have come with evidence for your claim. If both would not be an option for you, you could have resigned voluntary. Now we have a big drama with Russavia and the illuminati already involved. I don't like the Odder attitude in this case, I am not a fan of Russavia and I don't think Wilfredor qualifies for OTRS or adminship. But I do think we deserve that you respond to this case, one way or another. Jcb (talk) 22:07, 14 March 2016 (UTC)

Batch protect the Interstate Highway articles again

He's back and he's taxing our ability to deal with it. I know I could probably figure out how to do it, maybe, but since you did it last time, can you batch-protect all of the Interstate Highway articles again? Thanks. --Jayron32 19:13, 29 March 2016 (UTC)

Sure. I've set it to three months. This guy really is persistent. Just for future reference, if you have Twinkle enabled you can go to the category and select "p-batch" (it's along the top in Monobook, it's probably hidden in a dropdown in Vector). Then you just unselect the sub-categories and anything else you don't want to protect, set the protection level and expiry date, and off it goes. Cordially Asking for your Professional Opinion

User:HJ Mitchell, Hi! I am turning to you for your unbiased and professional opinion about an edit on the archaeological site Emmaus Nicopolis article, a place in Israel, and where I have suggested a more neutral edit so as to read: "The site today is inside Canada Park and is maintained by the Jewish National Fund of Canada," as opposed to the current edit that reads: "The site today is inside Canada Park in the West Bank, and maintained by the Jewish National Fund of Canada." As it stands, two Arab editors have joined in on the Talk-Page discussion (see: Talk:Emmaus Nicopolis#Location of Emmaus-Nicopolis (Imwas)) to voice their general disapproval at implying the archaeological site is in Israel, while Jewish participants (including myself) have wanted to omit the words "West Bank" in the article, that is to say, to keep it neutral, without mentioning Israel, neither the West Bank. What do you think we should do with respect to this edit? Can you give your advice on how we ought to proceed and to reach a compromise?Davidbena (talk) 22:50, 6 April 2016 (UTC)

Possible sock of 101el capitan

Over a year ago you indef blocked 101el capitan for disruptive editing[1]. A new user, Muhammadahmad79, has started edit warring, including IPs, to input the same information as 101el. I believe user:Muhammadahmad79 and 101el capitan are the same person. Muhammadahmad79 has singularly made the same edits on Qutb Shah that 101el capitan was making in March 2015 before his banishment.

Since 101el capitan was blocked back in March 2015, I suspect an SPI would be stale. Would you be interested in comparing the edits of these two users? Thanks. --Kansas Bear (talk) 19:03, 24 April 2016 (UTC)
