Feedback on amph FA
Hey Hamiltonstone,
I want to thank you again for giving your feedback on the amphetamine FAC. Since I suspect the nomination is nearing a close, I was wondering if you had any other suggestions/feedback, or, if not, were willing to take a concrete stance (e.g., oppose/support) on the nomination. Sorry for bothering you with this if you're busy!
Best regards, Seppi333 (Insert 2¢) 19:58, 15 January 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks for the additional feedback!
- Btw, I had a question about improving accessability of the pharmacodynamics section. Do you think that it'd be understandable to an average reader if I made a 2nd image that shows what this neuron would look like without amphetamine? Beyond comparison diagrams, I'm out of ideas on how to simplify it. Seppi333 (Insert 2¢) 06:14, 22 January 2014 (UTC)
- I don't think the image support is the issue, it is a question of whether text as technical as this is appropriate to the encyclopedia article. I have an open mind on the issue, and would really like others to give their input. I suggest you ask the views of a couple of other FAC review regulars like Wehwalt, or ask one of the delegates to give their view (but don't ask the delegate who closed your last one - they will probably prefer to remain uninvolved, so they are seen as impartial when they review it next time...). Sorry I can't be more help, hamiltonstone (talk) 00:36, 27 January 2014 (UTC)
Hi, you had left some comments on this article's FAC review and I was wondering if you could continue your review on the article's talk page so I can fix any other issues you had before the next FAC nomination. --JDC808 ♫ 21:02, 26 January 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks for your note. I don't usually review game articles - i only did it because it was way down the bottom without many people having a look. I'm going to pass, I'm sorry. hamiltonstone (talk) 00:41, 27 January 2014 (UTC)
Patrick Corrigan
Dear Hamiltonstone, thank you very much for your comments. As this is my first article it is very encouraging. I presume your note about the potential conflict of interest relates to the book? I'm curious about the comment "looks as though you have addressed this through the 'article for creation' request". Is there another way? I assumed this was the only process to create/publish an article. To me, the reviewing process seems opaque. Thank you for all the other pointers and tips. Best regards Jane Raffan (talk) 21:04, 29 January 2014 (UTC)
- Hi Jane, sorry for the delay. Yes my COI comment relates to the book, but I also thought you might have a coi if you were paid by Corrigan (that isn't a question so you don't need to respond). Articles can be created directly, without going through the afc request process. But you've avoided any issue with that by taking the approach you have. Any questions, feel free to ask - though i can take a while to respond sometimes! Regards, hamiltonstone (talk) 11:13, 5 February 2014 (UTC)
Making more constellations engaging
To finish off the four Southern Birds, I have buffed Grus (constellation) for GAN, while Tucana is sitting at FAC (though Thopha saccata is attracting much less attention) - if you have any time a bit of spit'n'boot polish to make the prose as nice as possible is always appreciated :) Cas Liber (talk · contribs) 23:47, 11 February 2014 (UTC)
March 2014 GAN Backlog Drive
It's that time again! Starting on March 1, there will be another GAN Backlog Drive! There will be several changes compared to previous drives:
- This drive will introduce a new component to it; a point system. In a nutshell, older nominations are worth more points than newer nominations. The top 3 participants who have the points will be awarded the Golden, Silver, or Bronze Wikipedia Puzzle Piece Trophy, respectively.
- Unlike the December 2013 Backlog Drive, earning an additional barnstar if you reached your goal has been removed.
- The allowance to have insufficient reviews has been lowered to 2 before being disqualified.
- An exception to the rule that all reviews must be completed before the deadline has been created.
Also, something that I thought I would share with all of you is that we raised $20.88 (USD) for the WMF in the December 2013 drive. It may not sound like a lot but considering that that was raised just because we reviewed articles, I would say that's pretty good! With that success, pledges can be made for the upcoming drive if you wish.
More info regarding the drive and full descriptions regarding the changes to this drive can be found on the the drive page. If you have any questions, feel free to leave a message on the drive talk page.
I look forward to your participation and hope that because of it, some day the backlog will be gone!

Thank you for your comments. There are many other stories that I could tell, but unfortunately, I can't reference them!
- I see there are already a few there that come from your personal repertoire. My favourite is of course the one with the garbage collector. I do hope you publish a family memoir in a reliable source, and then we can have the full story! hamiltonstone (talk) 11:27, 28 February 2014 (UTC)
Are you a Scottish Hamilton, an Irish Hamilton or an Australian Hamilton? In other words, am I talking to a close relative, or probably not? Amandajm (talk) 11:03, 28 February 2014 (UTC)
- That question is more complicated than you think. All three, and none. Scottish by birth, Australian by upbringing and residence, Irish of heritage in patches, but as to the origin of the Hamilton, well, Kentish, to the best of my knowledge, though I well know that may seem unlikely. Ramsgate, to be precise. hamiltonstone (talk) 11:27, 28 February 2014 (UTC)
- We are married into Scottish Hamiltons, who migrated to Australia several generations ago.
- Maybe the Australian Dictionary of Biography would be the way to go. I haven't got enough for a book. If I don't write it down, it will be lost, I suppose. They are only snippets. I hesitate to state that Myra invented the searchlight. It seems to have been more like a laser. According to my aunt Lavie, who was not an entirely reliable source, she shone it on the cat, and the cat died as a result.
- The Mary Gilmore story came from a much more reliable source, my other grandmother. The story goes that Myra was in the habit of listening to a radio broadcast by Leadbeater, a proponent of Theosophy. On this particular day Mary Gilmore had come to lunch and was arguing the point with Myra. Gilmore said "Well, if this man presumes to have all the answers, then let him answer this.... " and posed several difficult questions. The broadcast was turned on and he answered Gilmore's questions exactly as if he had the script. Gilmore took her hat and stormed out. That is how the story goes. Amandajm (talk) 02:21, 1 March 2014 (UTC)

Brandis edits
Hi there,
How about this addition, and deletion of the previous Bigotry quote.
When asked by Senator Nova Peris in Australian Parliment on March 24 2014, "Won't removing section 18C facilitate vilification by bigots?”, Brandis claimed “People do have a right to be bigots, you know. In a free country, people do have rights to say things that other people find offensive, insulting or bigoted. ” Brandis went on to accuse Senator Wong of bigotry. Brandis' bigotry comment was followed by intense media scrutiny.
Thanks. have replied with a tweaked versino of your suggestion, at the article talk page.hamiltonstone (talk) 05:25, 27 March 2014 (UTC)

Hi there. This is a message for CasLiber, HamiltonStone, SturmVogel and Crisco. Thanks for your help and feeback re: the Singora article. It achieved FA status on Saturday.
I got a message today saying the article will now appear on Wikipedia's home page on June 4. This surprised me. I read somewhere that it usually takes several months for featured articles to make it to the home page.
I've cleaned things up a bit. CasLiber and Crisco noted that the section about Persians in 17th century Siam looked out of place. I've deleted this paragraph.
I've also re-jigged the lead and added:
- 1. Alternative names / spellings to the Early History section.
- 2. An explanatory note re: the foundation of the city in 1605.
- 3. An explanatory note re: Sultan Sulaiman's declaration of independence in 1642.
- 4. A second paragraph to the The forts at Khao Daeng section.
If you have time to briefly glance through it again, please do. I still feel the article can be improved prior to June 4.
Thanks again for your help. I've enjoyed doing this. I finished Oxford University almost exactly 30 years ago, so this has been an opportunity to cast aside some of the rust and dust that's built up over the years. Perhaps I'm not as good as I was, but I think I'm still just about okay!
I'll login from time to time. If you'd like a review, do please feel free to let me know.

If you'd like to see an FA appear on a particular date in the next year or so, please add it to the "pending" list. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

DYK for Iso Rae
On 11 June 2014, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Iso Rae, which you recently created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that despite being Australian artists of a war, neither Jessie Traill (pictured) nor Iso Rae were Australian war artists? You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, live views, daily totals), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page. |

I noticed you are interested in working on aboriginal art. I went to Bennett's page to update it, but there's a lot more that can be done, if you'd like to help--Beth Wellington (talk) 18:01, 14 June 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks, I did some tidying up there and looked up a couple more references. If I get back to it i will expand it some more. hamiltonstone (talk) 01:45, 15 June 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks! Saw there are still two references missing. The Guardian eulogy by his associate lists a different h.s. I'll write him and ask. Meanwhile I'll add his piece as an external link. As far as his observations on race, couldn't find what's there re citation needed, but did find this: "Gordon Bennett’s extraordinary video, ‘Performance with Object for the Expiation of Guilt (Violence and Grief Remix)’, developed over 1996-2004...draws together frontier footage evoking the genocidal pursuit of Indigenous Australians [and] a succession of disturbing, racialized motifs..." ) I've listed it for now in the external sources (see MAA essay, 2007)--Beth Wellington (talk) 22:15, 15 June 2014 (UTC)

Your review of Sri Temasek
I have added the requested citations to the article. Kindly check whether anything else needs to be done before the article can be passed. Thanks for the review. --Hildanknight (talk) 04:30, 19 June 2014 (UTC)
Your GA nomination of Jean Bellette
The article Jean Bellette you nominated as a good article has been placed on hold . The article is close to meeting the good article criteria, but there are some minor changes or clarifications needing to be addressed. If these are fixed within 7 days, the article will pass; otherwise it may fail. See Talk:Jean Bellette for things which need to be addressed. Message delivered by Legobot, on behalf of Arthistorygrrl -- Arthistorygrrl (talk) 19:21, 21 June 2014 (UTC)
Hello! The edits you made did the trick. I changed the "on hold" designation to "pass" today, so Jean Bellette is now recognized as a good article. I poked around a bit to see what possibilities there might be for adding an image of Bellette to the page, but did not find anything useful to relay. You're quite right that the image you found seems to be under copyright.--Arthistorygrrl (talk) 20:25, 23 June 2014 (UTC)
Hi hamiltonstone. I would appreciate you revisiting this page. Ceoil (talk) 22:47, 21 June 2014 (UTC)

Your review of TripleOne Somerset
I will be going to the library this weekend (maybe even tomorrow) to get the books that Sengkang used to write the article. Before then, could you do the following to make life easier for both of us?
- Tag specific statements that need an inline citation but currently do not have one (since not everything needs an inline citation)
- Raise concerns related to other criteria, such as prose (so I can address them first)
- Review Tan Chay Wa's tombstone trial as I can address concerns immediately (any concerns are unlikely to be about sourcing)
Once again, thanks for your reviews. By the way, Yue Hwa Building was placed on hold, and subsequently passed, by another reviewer. --Hildanknight (talk) 01:50, 26 June 2014 (UTC)
- OK, i've tagged it and raised an additional point at the GA talk. Good luck. hamiltonstone (talk) 12:06, 26 June 2014 (UTC)

Hello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to Jean Bellette may have broken the syntax by modifying 1 "()"s. If you have, don't worry: just edit the page again to fix it. If I misunderstood what happened, or if you have any questions, you can leave a message on my operator's talk page.

Reculver FAC
I just wanted to thank you for the effort you've already put into the Reculver FAC, apologise for the source-checking being so time-consuming, and ask, as a total ingénu regarding the detail of the FAC process, was there anything I could have done to make that aspect less time-consuming, or was it just the sheer number of references? Sorry to take up yet more of your time with this...! Cheers. Nortonius (talk) 11:42, 26 June 2014 (UTC)
- There's nothing you could do. It was basically volume. The thing that took most time was the primary source issue, but in my experience one never knows these issues until someone raises them. Also, because it's your first FAC, there is an expectation that someone will check a sample of the sources for plagiarism, inappropriate paraphrasing, or claims in the article that aren't supported by the citation. That will take some extra work in an article with so many references. Hopefully someone will come along to share the work on that. hamiltonstone (talk) 11:48, 26 June 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks for re-assuring me once again, hamiltonstone! You're right about the primary source issue, I was absolutely confident that the sources were appropriate and that I'd handled them properly, and I'm extremely grateful for your ultimate support on that. It honestly hadn't occurred to me that my first FAC would be harder for everyone else, I thought it'd be me doing all the hard work! Cheers. Nortonius (talk) 12:43, 26 June 2014 (UTC)
Further FA congratulations
Just a quick note to congratulate you on the promotion of Hilda Rix Nicholas to FA status recently. If you would like to see this (or any other FA) appear as "Today's featured article" soon (either on a particular date or on any available date), please nominate it at the requests page. If you'd like to see an FA appear on a particular date in the next year or so, please add it to the "pending" list. In the absence of a request, the article may end up being picked at any time (although with about 1,294 articles waiting their turn at present, there's no telling how long – or short! – the wait might be). If you'd got any TFA-related questions or problems, please let me know. BencherliteTalk 13:37, 27 June 2014 (UTC)
