Luther Strange Page
"Big Luther" is a nickname he earned when playing collegiate basketball. It is a name he has carried with him throughout his political career. I am heavily involved with Alabama Politics and know this to be true. Also, Politco has the info on "Big Luther."[1] Thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rtrota (talk • contribs) 15:31, 9 February 2017 (UTC)

...need to put back redlinks, if you agree
@IronGargoyle and Checkingfax: Hi User:IronGargoyle. I am working on the List of flamenco guitarists. I find the redlinked guitarists noteworthy, but unfortunately sources or Wikipedia articles only exist in Spanish, French, and German. This makes it easy for me since I have several mother tongues and I intended to give these guitarists an article, albeit sometimes a stub, in English. To do so, I need to restore the redlinked names you removed, if you don't have any objection, in order to have at hand precisely which guitarist I am researching and translating. Thus, would you mind if I undid your recent redlink removals? I should be finished translating all guitarists in about 2 months. Many thanks for your kind consideration; ...much appreciated. PS. I would be amiss not to congratulate you on your amazing Wikipedia accomplishments—so many created articles and contributions! Bravo! best wishes, Natalie --Natalie.Desautels (talk) 12:20, 13 February 2016 (UTC)
- @Natalie.Desautels: Thank you for the note and I appreciate the compliment. You can certainly work at this in userspace. I've taken the liberty of copying the redlink-filled article for you to work on at User:Natalie.Desautels/List of flamenco guitarists. That way you can easily keep track of the missing articles and then add the links back to the main article (List of flamenco guitarists) as they become available, satisfying WP:LISTPEOPLE and keeping the main list tidy while you work. IronGargoyle (talk) 18:57, 15 February 2016 (UTC)
- Dear IronGargoyle. Natalie.Desautels, myself, and others have determined that the redlinked artists are notable. The non-notable ones have been previously deleted. I have therefore restored the list. Cheers!
{{u|Checkingfax}} {Talk}
12:08, 17 February 2016 (UTC) - Dear IronGargoyle:
The entirety of the list does not need to be documented in sources for notability, only that the grouping or set in general has been. Because the group or set is notable, the individual items in the list do not need to be independently notable
- The list has been restored again. Ping Natalie.Desautels. Cheers!

23:13, 17 February 2016 (UTC)- @IronGargoyle and Checkingfax: Many thanks! Having the complete list available at a glance will make my time working on this list more efficient. There are quite a few sources available, mostly in my various languages, and I'm eager to roll up my sleeves again. You may not have noticed, but some of the names which were not redlinked were actually linked to non-English articles. I indicated these after the name, (with a little [es] for Spanish for example) as a reminder to myself, with the intention of translating them as well, but someone took away all my guidelines, and together with the redlinks disappearing, ...well, the redundancy started to accumulate and I had moved on ...after all, there's no shortage of interesting articles needing translation on Wikipedia ...some great ones in French!! But I am passionate about flamenco, so I'm glad this list is now in order, with a clear, visible path to follow. Many thanks once again; very much appreciated. very best wishes, Natalie --Natalie.Desautels (talk) 23:38, 17 February 2016 (UTC)
- @Checkingfax: I understand where you are quoting from, but you seem to be willfully ignoring the WP:LISTPEOPLE guideline. And I quote: "A person is typically included in a list of people only if all the following requirements are met: *The person meets the Wikipedia notability requirement. *The person's membership in the list's group is established by reliable sources." Please knock it off. You two have what you need in userspace. IronGargoyle (talk) 02:17, 18 February 2016 (UTC)

Uechi-Ryu--Help with Edit War
Sorry to bother, but a user: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/32.97.110.58 keeps changing the order of the Major Organization section without explanation. I reverted the edit and requested this person discuss it on the Talk page for Uechi-Ryu. I also asked for a more senior member to vet the situation.
As I explain on the Talk: It is very subjective which organization "is more bigger important awesome" than another. For example, currently, the first organization listed is very small, the third is bigger than the second and the first, but advocates of the fifth could argue their organization is bigger than all of them!
I am not aware of a way to OBJECTIVELY resolve such fights, but I would like it to end. I fear members of every organization could potentially play with the order to satisfy whatever personal agenda the member has. For the record, I have not ordered/re-ordered the organizations based on what I think since it is not objective and the situation changes.

Redlinks in orchestra lists
Good work on clearing out all those redlinks from the lists of orchestras. It was much overdue. I'll try to keep an eye out for the redlinks creeping back, but these days I'm often away from Wikipedia for long periods so I miss a lot of what's going on. --Deskford (talk) 17:17, 4 March 2016 (UTC)
I'd like to serve as a 3rd party in between you and User:BlackAmerican. I think that most of these *can* be referenced as existing, though notability will definitely be more of an issue. - That's fine. I have no problem letting the entries be re-added if independent, reliable sources can be found for them. In fact, I selectively left the entries that User:BlackAmerican referenced. At the moment, however, you'll notice that the editor seems to be more interested in blindly reverting and ignoring the improvements that we've made to the article. IP 67.5.192.83 and Terry Bean
Hello. The IP you just removed TPA from is the latest incarnation of user Lurie2 who has been going after Terry Bean since at least October of last year, obviously feeling they have a score to settle (see this section on my talk page, linking Lurie2 to both this IP and a long string of other IPs, all geolocating to Portland, Oregon). So it's not a temporary problem that will go away after the 24h block has expired... Thomas.W talk 19:55, 29 March 2016 (UTC)

I'm wondering why you insist on adding all that non-neutral stuff and keep interfering with my trying to get rid of it? Miep2 (talk) 20:29, 29 March 2016 (UTC)
- I didn't see that version as particularly non-neutral and you just removed a bunch of maintenance tags and a bunch of referenced content without explaining why. IronGargoyle (talk) 19:29, 30 March 2016 (UTC)
Well excuse me, but most if not all the 'stuff' that's mentioned on the Wikipedia-page *now*, is already on the www.laughfactory.com-site (doesn't Wikipedia want all those 'sob-stories' (like Richard Pryor handing him a bill of $100) gone? Don't they want an objective story? Like one single line for, say, how he opened the LF, supported by a reference, and then one line for the Comedy Camp, supported by a reference, and then on to the Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners, with a reference, and then the free Jewish services, with a reference?). That was EXACTLY how it was, you know, before people started butting in on March 24. Look here, Gargoyle, Mr. Masada has asked me to clean up this English Wikipedia page as good as possible and then translate said page into Dutch and French, likewise with the Laugh_Factory page. And I was just succeeding in that, I thought, with WORKING links or references. Miep2 (talk) 20:47, 30 March 2016 (UTC) Oh, and something else? I 'explain myself' on the history-page (you know, to the upper right of the page you see tabs 'read', 'edit source', 'edit', 'view history'?) Miep2 (talk) 21:18, 30 March 2016 (UTC) I'm very tempted to get rid of the 'march on Pennsylvania Avenue' but that's actually *not* mentioned on the site, so I'll leave it be for now.Miep2 (talk) 23:21, 30 March 2016 (UTC) I also just removed that 'this page has issues'-box, as that dated from 2014 and a lot has been done about it since then. Cleaning of Red Links
If we consider the "List of..." articles as informative in themselves, can you just removed the wikilink code, leaving the actual name? If not, the "List of ...." becomes a "List of ... with wikipedia article" which defeats the purpose of having the list in the first place. It is not a NavBox. I appreciate your hard work. I was just wondering, since by removing the names, the lists become incomplete. Thanks for you consideration on this.--Coquidragon (talk) 16:51, 30 March 2016 (UTC)
- I've been careful not to remove redlinks and non-notable entries from comprehensive lists (i.e., lists that contain every member of a certain category) nor to remove well-referenced list entries. This follows the logic of WP:LISTPEOPLE and WP:LISTCOMPANY. Can you be more specific about the list(s) you have a concern about? Thanks. IronGargoyle (talk) 19:22, 30 March 2016 (UTC)
Pash Bash
I *suspect* they're not actually a sock, just raiding my recent contributions for random material to use in their nonsense, and that pagename is exactly the one from that bunch that I CSD-tagged earlier and thus is in my CSD-log. (They also just welcomed a new user without contributions that I reported to UAA for a blatant username violation--not someone they'd have come across--copied my user page to their own for a bit (then messed around with it and blanked it. Earlier, they copied-then-pasted-then-blanked Bongwarrior's user page...shortly after Bongwarrior reverted their edit to my userpage)
Still, they're blatantly not here for constructive purposes. AddWittyNameHere (talk) 22:35, 31 March 2016 (UTC)
- I recently blocked another editor for a username violation that was editing with a very similar modus operandi to Pash Bash. IronGargoyle (talk) 00:30, 1 April 2016 (UTC)
- Ah. Part of a longer chain/well known case, or no/no clue? Looks like several of the puppeteers' sock-drawers opened up again over the past week or so, anyway. At least, been seeing a fair few blockevaders, IPsocks, ducks, attack usernames and similar come past. (Spread over several puppeteers, for the cases where I could figure out which string of discarded and blocked socks they belong to) Too much folks having too much time on hands due to Easter holidays, maybe? List of Breweries in San Diego
I do not understand why you keep taking down the breweries in San Diego that I have added or the organizational structure that depicts where breweries are in San Diego. Within San Diego, many of the areas have much higher density of breweries and the new organizational system shows that. Going through, you can now see that North Park and Miramar, for instance, have many more breweries than Downtown or Pacific Beach. This also provides room for future growth of the brewery industry (which is happening). As for not having articles for each page, that is work in progress. Many of the breweries on the page do not have wikipedia articles, but are still allowed on the page. Trev_fro (User talk:Trev fro) 2:43, 24 April 2016 (UTC)
- Hello, Trev_fro, and thanks for your interest in San Diego breweries. I am not IronGargoyle, but I am a frequent editor to that page (and in fact I was the original author of it). I'd just like to say that I agree with IronGargoyle's changes. In order to be listed here, a brewery has to have received significant coverage, written about it by independent reliable sources (such as general-circulation newspapers). Breweries that have a Wikipedia article already meet this standard. A few others are included with a reference to show significant coverage. San Diego County has more than 100 breweries, but we do not list them all, only the most noteworthy. As for the neighborhoods, that was a nice thought, but not really helpful for the list; some have multiple locations, others are in poorly defined neighborhoods, and there is little or not sourcing to support what neighborhood we assign it to. (For example, you listed Karl Strauss in Bay Ho, which is not a bad guess, but the company itself says it is in Pacific Beach.) I know you worked hard on these additions and I'm sorry they don't meet Wikipedia's criteria. If you want to try writing articles about individual breweries, you should realize that we pretty much only have articles about breweries that have won multiple medals in international competition. There certainly are some such breweries that we don't have articles about yet, and if you'd like to start a draft of an article in your sandbox. I'll be glad to help you with it, and I will copy this note to your talk page where we can continue talking about it. --MelanieN (talk) 00:14, 26 April 2016 (UTC)

fire department editor doesn't add sources or communicate
Your recent edit to the article for Elizabeth, New Jersey removed edits made by User:69.125.36.151 as "unhelpful". I agree. This editor makes a wide range of edits related to fire department articles and sections about fire departments in municipal articles. I can deal with formatting issues, such as this editor's desire to use initial capitalization for every word. The real issue is that no sources are ever added. I have never been able to verify the changes, even in cases where there are sources available about the department. I've left warnings about sourcing and messages on the editor's talk page. I'm not sure that the edits are incorrect, but I have been utterly unable to communicate with this editor.
Any ideas. Alansohn (talk) 19:06, 13 May 2016 (UTC)
- I'm going to call B.S. on the edits. The editor adds that Patterson, NJ has a fire boat but the navigability of the Passaic River is pretty dubious that far up river and I scoured Google Maps for anything looking remotely like a dock in Patterson and I found nothing. IronGargoyle (talk) 19:55, 13 May 2016 (UTC)
- After the IP troll had edits reverted, it looks like we have a new user making these same edits (see these recent contributions). I agree that the edits are problematic, and wonder again if you have any ideas on dealing with this editor. Alansohn (talk) 14:38, 31 May 2016 (UTC)
Doesn't look like an editing test on whale shark
Hi, IronGargoyle. I saw your revert of User:Squid404 on the whale shark article and the editing test warning you gave them. Why would you think this is an editing test? The edit seems to be an attempt to fix (what they thought was) a grammatical syntax issue and I'd imagine that receiving an editing test issue removal notice after their edit would be rather annoying to the editor. As for the grammar, I support the change back to "whale shark" so that's not the topic, it's the dubious use of the "edit test" warning template. Here an edit summary like "I believe 'whale shark' is the proper capitalization", an link to the manual of style, or something similar would have been appropriate. Jason Quinn (talk) 04:21, 14 May 2016 (UTC)
- I believe the editor in question already got a related note regarding the manual of style issues. I agree that it's probably not blatant vandalism (hence the test template), but when someone makes a nonconstructive edit and their only edit summary simply describes the edit without any sort of justification, I don't think a level one test template is too bitey. IronGargoyle (talk) 14:11, 14 May 2016 (UTC)
- I think even calling it non-constructive edit seems uncharitable. Despite the January warning given for the same mistake, it is very likely the user still thought they were improving the article, and we ought to still think so here. The user appears to have tried to edit only three periods, in January and March and now. I find it very likely the user did not see the edit summary in January explaining the incorrectness of these capitalizations and is too inexperienced to make sense of a general "use the manual of style" warnings they've been given on their talk page. What they need is a personalized message about these edits pointing them to MOS:LIFE. A belated welcome message would also be nice. I will do it. This is the difference between being welcoming and cold to newcomers. This is a user that appears to want to help the encyclopedia and it is somebody who has demonstrated long term interest in editing. This is a person we want to stick around and help get up to speed. Boomerang
Hi! Please could you give me the link for this? Thanks... 81.141.40.109 (talk) 18:15, 15 May 2016 (UTC)
- Sure. Follow this link through to the individual coaster pages (they are already linked individually in the list of installations) and you will see that every installation of Boomerang has the same particular height, speed, and seating characteristics. IronGargoyle (talk) 18:19, 15 May 2016 (UTC)
- Thank you.
- http://rcdb.com/914.htm says 'Height: 85 ft' - ?
- Why does RCDB say 3 inversions yet Boomerang (roller coaster) says 6?
- 81.141.40.109 (talk) 18:39, 15 May 2016 (UTC)
- The height is an odd issue. Maybe it is a model variant? I think 116.5 ft is probably consistent enough that we could footnote the different one. I fixed the inversion issue. Presumably they were counting the ride-forward inversion and the ride-backward inversions separately (experienced inversions vs. physical inversions). I don't think that's appropriate, so I changed it to 3. IronGargoyle (talk) 18:46, 15 May 2016 (UTC)

My sources were very accurate, plain and simple. It was proof that I personally researched and witnessed myself. Please read the citations and reference links next time and you will see that it's all based on facts and not speculation. Regardless, I shortened the section down significantly and left the two paragraphs someone else wrote about it with a link to the comments section.

Apologies for the misplaced speedy notification earlier, I must not have noticed the move or else there was a brief glitch in the Wikimatrix. Judging by the log for the page, I'm guessing the editor created it with the disambiguation in the title to get around the fact that Subhas Gupta is salted after repeated A7 deletions. Can we talk about Huggle?
I’m reaching out to you because our logs tell us you’re a highly active Huggle user (top 20, actually). The Wikimedia Collaboration Team is researching a project that we hope will be useful to people who use Huggle and others engaged in edit-review and anti-vandalism. Using artificial intelligence programming (in ORES) and other means, we believe we can create feeds of Recent Changes that are better tailored to the type of work you do, helping you to be more effective and efficient. (The technology will have other benefits as well, which we can talk about.)
We're in the early stages of planning this and want to speak with people like yourself to better understand your work, goals and issues. If you’re interested in helping, I’d like to set up a time to meet by video conference, so that you can explain and demonstrate (via screensharing) some of your workflows, and we can ask and answer any questions.
To participate, please email the following information to me, jmatazzoni wikimedia.org, or send it to designresearch wikimedia.org:

- city/time zone
- Best time to talk to you?
- Email where we can reach you
- Please use the subject line: Huggle User Conversations

Extended confirmed protection
Hello, IronGargoyle. This message is intended to notify administrators of important changes to the protection policy.
Extended confirmed protection (also known as "30/500 protection") is a new level of page protection that only allows edits from accounts at least 30 days old and with 500 edits. The automatically assigned "extended confirmed" user right was created for this purpose. The protection level was created following this community discussion with the primary intention of enforcing various arbitration remedies that prohibited editors under the "30 days/500 edits" threshold to edit certain topic areas.
In July and August 2016, a request for comment established consensus for community use of the new protection level. Administrators are authorized to apply extended confirmed protection to combat any form of disruption (e.g. vandalism, sock puppetry, edit warring, etc.) on any topic, subject to the following conditions:
- Extended confirmed protection may only be used in cases where semi-protection has proven ineffective. It should not be used as a first resort.
- A bot will post a notification at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard of each use. MusikBot currently does this by updating a report, which is transcluded onto the noticeboard.
Please review the protection policy carefully before using this new level of protection on pages. Thank you.
This message was sent to the administrators' mass message list. To opt-out of future messages, please remove yourself from the list. 17:48, 23 September 2016 (UTC)
Request for page protection of the Sardinians and Corsicans articles
Hi, IronGargoyle. There are in fact two anonymous IPs engaged in edit war on these two pages (1 and 2). In particular, one of them tries to remove the reliably sourced info the first one has posted on the basis of his/her own personal POV, without the consent of other users. It's always the same guy, even if it has different IPs (I also tried several times to tell him/her it'd be time to create a single account, to no avail). I hereby make a request for the protection of these two pages... For a long time.--Dk1919 (talk) 11:07, 4 November 2016 (UTC)
Two-Factor Authentication now available for admins
Hello,
Please note that TOTP based two-factor authentication is now available for all administrators. In light of the recent compromised accounts, you are encouraged to add this additional layer of security to your account. It may be enabled on your preferences page in the "User profile" tab under the "Basic information" section. For basic instructions on how to enable two-factor authentication, please see the developing help page for additional information. Important: Be sure to record the two-factor authentication key and the single use keys. If you lose your two factor authentication and do not have the keys, it's possible that your account will not be recoverable. Furthermore, you are encouraged to utilize a unique password and two-factor authentication for the email account associated with your Wikimedia account. This measure will assist in safeguarding your account from malicious password resets. Comments, questions, and concerns may be directed to the thread on the administrators' noticeboard. A new user right for New Page Patrollers
Hi IronGargoyle.
A new user group, New Page Reviewer, has been created in a move to greatly improve the standard of new page patrolling. The user right can be granted by any admin at PERM. It is highly recommended that admins look beyond the simple numerical threshold and satisfy themselves that the candidates have the required skills of communication and an advanced knowledge of notability and deletion. Admins are automatically included in this user right.
It is anticipated that this user right will significantly reduce the work load of admins who patrol the performance of the patrollers. However, due to the complexity of the rollout, some rights may have been accorded that may later need to be withdrawn, so some help will still be needed to some extent when discovering wrongly applied deletion tags or inappropriate pages that escape the attention of less experienced reviewers, and above all, hasty and bitey tagging for maintenance. User warnings are available here but very often a friendly custom message works best.
If you have any questions about this user right, don't hesitate to join us at WT:NPR. (Sent to all admins).MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 13:47, 15 November 2016 (UTC)
ArbCom Elections 2016: Voting now open!
Hello, IronGargoyle. Voting in the 2016 Arbitration Committee elections is open from Monday, 00:00, 21 November through Sunday, 23:59, 4 December to all unblocked users who have registered an account before Wednesday, 00:00, 28 October 2016 and have made at least 150 mainspace edits before Sunday, 00:00, 1 November 2016.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
If you wish to participate in the 2016 election, please review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 22:08, 21 November 2016 (UTC)
Pakistan has no immigration policy. The Afghans arrived to Pakistan after Soviet invasion in 1979. Unlike in other countries, they cannot ever become Pakistanis. They will all go back to Afghanistan and then there will be NO MORE Afghans in Pakistan, except those who visit the country for up to 3 months (period of visa limitation). Your version of Afghans in Pakistan is giving readers the wrong idea about Pakistan.

Yuan Dynasty sexist trolling by chinese ethnocentrism
There is a lot of content from Chinese wiki users who highlight the enslavement of various peoples of non-Chinese origin during the Mongol rule of China. In fact, this page should focus on the social environment of Han Chinese people during Mongolian rule. It appears to be based on Chinese nationalistic intent and skews the page incorrectly. Please enforce a truthful and balanced account of history. Even if it is referenced to a source, the intent is damaging to students who may study Chinese and Mongolian history. I edited the page because the controversy was around the claim that Brewmeister knowingly sold beer that did not reach it's advertised ABV, rather than focusing on one of the many blogs that called them out on it which is what the article currently does. Removing redlinks
I'm curious as to why you are removing redlinks. They are a convenient way to identify what work needs to be done. - kosboot (talk) 21:56, 19 May 2017 (UTC)
- I'm not removing all redlinks. I'm just removing them from lists of people so that these lists comply with WP:LISTPEOPLE. While ordinarily redlinks can serve exactly the purpose you suggest, they are problematic in lists of people (and to a lesser extent, lists of organizations). These lists often have problems with non-notable entries being added. Without independent reliable sources supporting their notability, it would be impossible to distinguish between a valid redlink and an indiscriminate or vanity entry on a dynamic list.
