DYK for CEC Bank
On 20 June 2012, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article CEC Bank, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that CEC Bank fell from a 32.9% share of the Romanian banking market in 1990 to 4.03% in 2006? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/CEC Bank. You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and it will be added to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |
Non-free rationale for File:Stokely Carmichael 1967.jpg
Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Stokely Carmichael 1967.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 11:58, 23 June 2012 (UTC)

Spanish Translation
Thank you so much for your help translating John VI of Portugal and Amélie of Leuchtenberg. Do you know Spanish as well? Would you mind taking a look at Pelagius of Asturias and see if the Spanish wiki version es:Don Pelayo has anything more to say? If you don't have time I will understand. Thanks.--Queen Elizabeth II's Little Spy (talk) 02:29, 29 June 2012 (UTC)
- My Spanish is much better than my Portuguese. Not sure how much time I have to give this, but I'll certainly take a look. - Jmabel | Talk 03:24, 29 June 2012 (UTC)
- Forget it, there are obviously some users who are obsessed with keeping this article in its current form and won't accept change from the obviously better article on the Spanish wiki. Thanks for trying.--The Emperor's New Spy (talk) 18:36, 30 June 2012 (UTC)
- Would you mind taking a look at zome of Kings of Leon? I've placed the translation template on all of them but I seriously doubt anyone are going to tackle them. Mainly the shorter ones like García I of León and Fruela II of León. As you seen on my talk page I have contacted nearly every person on wikipedia that possibly knows Spanish and English. --The Emperor's New Spy (talk) 18:45, 30 June 2012 (UTC)
- You did a great job of translating the article for Ramiro I of Asturias! Before you start on a new project, could you finished the translation for John II of Castile, there isn't much more information in the Spanish version except the sources, some small details here and there plus a paragraph on the burial part. Also do you mind if I list some more articles for these kings, which I think need a bit of work, here for you to look at?--The Emperor's New Spy (talk) 07:30, 6 July 2012 (UTC)

I just notice that John VI of Portugal was a feature article on the Portuguese wiki. You should nominate it so you can receive some credits for your hard work. --The Emperor's New Spy (talk) 20:46, 20 July 2012 (UTC)
- I don't believe it would qualify for FA by en-wiki standards, thought it's not too far short. - 20:50, 20 July 2012 (UTC)
Hey, I just saw your addition to Silo of Asturias. Does that mean you still plan on translating the articles of the Asturian-Leonese Kings?--The Emperor's New Spy (talk) 16:44, 2 December 2012 (UTC)
- I've been picking up some of this in my spare time, but as long as I'm working full time, doing my stuff on Commons, and living a pretty busy life, that spare time is none too copious. - Jmabel | Talk 17:57, 2 December 2012 (UTC)
Copyright notice question
When you sent a notice to the World News Network about their use of Wikimedia material without proper attribution (Wikipedia:Mirrors and forks/Vwxyz#World News Network) back in 2008, do you remember if you ever got a reply? They're currently using Wikipedia articles without even mentioning Wikipedia, so I sent them another notice, but it'd be nice to know if they ever replied to the one you send them. --Philosopher Let us reason together. 12:52, 30 June 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for DYK nod
Hello Jmabel, and thank you very much for approving my DYK nomination for Antinomian Controversy. Also, thanks very much for your kind words. Just as a note, I did not write out Massachusetts Bay Colony in the DYK, but did link to it using the word Massachusetts. A very minor point, and hardly worth my mentioning it. I greatly appreciate your vote of confidence.Sarnold17 (talk) 12:15, 6 July 2012 (UTC)

Quick translation question
Hi there, you're listed as being able to translate Portuguese? I have this one sentence I'd like checked if you have time (the diacritics may be off, I'm working from a blurry scan): "A história é novinha em folha, mas quém está acostumada aos games da série não vai ver nado novo." I'm guessing that says for fans of the series, there's nothing new in this game? Thanks, bridies (talk) 08:29, 26 July 2012 (UTC)
- Pretty much: "The story is brand new, but those who are accustomed to the games in the series won't see anything new." The only thing I'm not completely sure of here is "the games in the series," but if that makes sense in context then it's probably right. - Jmabel | Talk 15:01, 26 July 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks :) bridies (talk) 15:57, 26 July 2012 (UTC)
Sleep apnea
Copied from Talk:Sleep apnea I added an image of myself wired up for a sleep study. If anyone feels that it is inappropriate to use an image of myself, believe me, I have no particular need to have my picture here. Hardly an ego-stroking picture. We lacked any image of this at all; I went in for a sleep study last night and arranged the picture for the specific purpose of having an image of this for the Commons. - Jmabel | Talk 05:11, 17 July 2009 (UTC) End copy.
Image is fine; however, that top part of the head assembly will eventually cause baldness. You should seek something that comfortably uses straps alone across the top of the head. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 110.165.229.242 (talk) 07:45, 31 July 2012 (UTC)
- Little idea what you are talking about: my picture has not been in that article in some time. However, (1) the "top part of the head assembly" in the current article does not resemble anything I wear and (2) if skullcaps caused baldness, there would be no non-bald older Orthodox Jewish men. - Jmabel | Talk 16:18, 31 July 2012 (UTC)

Translation request
Hi. I saw you listed yourself as willing to perform German to English translation. Would you be willing to translate de:Ladiner into English, presumably to Ladin people. Ladin language already has a good article, and Ladinia exists as a poor stub I started (which I created from es:Ladinia, but now there is no Spanish equivalent for me to work from!). It doesn't have to be perfect, just workable. Anyway, for whatever reason, this part of the world seems to be off the radar of English-speakers.
PS. If you respond to this request later than 24 hours from when I made it, please leave me a talkback message. Magog the Ogre (t • c) 00:30, 24 September 2012 (UTC)

The article Green Bicycle Case has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- WP:NOT - The page is far too long, and needs to be condensed by a long way. No need to include every detail about everyone in the article, just the main points.
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Mdann52 (talk) 17:00, 22 November 2012 (UTC)
- That's absurd. Earlier versions of the article (including my original version) were fine. The case is certainly notable -- two books have been written about it! -- and "far too long, and needs to be condensed by a long way" is certainly no reason for deletion, it's a reason either to edit or to revert to an earlier good version. - Jmabel | Talk 18:18, 22 November 2012 (UTC)

NEED TO EXPLAIN WHY
Hello Jmabel, You helped me get photo up for Valora Noland pg. last Dec. I noticed you had removed, at the bottom, "2. Corrected by Valora Noland, July 2009." I didn't want to put it back without telling you why it was there. Tom Lisanti could have contacted me to get bio info when he wrote his book(s), but he just copied stuff from an old article which was bogus then and now. SO much was false, more was than not. His pages on me were used as a bio reference for Valora Noland by the person who first put the article in W. in 2006.
I contacted Tom Lisanti about this a few years ago and gave him corrections, but I don't know if he has used them in a newer edition I was told was on the way. In any event, if a person were to read his prior book, and then Wikipedia's bio on my career, they would truly wonder. This is why I noted I'd corrected in 2009.
I am still unsure that I've contacted you in the right way, continuing as an edit under the last entry on this page.
Valora Kamitra1 (talk) 11:05, 7 February 2013 (UTC)
- I removed it for two reasons:
- The references section is for listing citeable, published sources, not for the history of who edited the article. If you need to say something about the history of who edited the article that would not be obvious from the article's history page (in this case http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Valora_Noland&action=history) then you should put that on the talk page (Talk:Valora Noland).
- If, as is the case here, the references section is maintained by using <ref> and {{tl|reflist}}, then no numbered notes should be written directly into the references section.
- Two questions:
- Have you (or anyone) published your accurate information anywhere that can be used as a source for citation? For some of this, even a personal web page would do. If not, of course I'd trust your corrections, but they are not citeable: plenty of people come in and edit Wikipedia articles about themselves and introduce inaccuracies because they are trying to alter their personal history (we catch politicians or their staffs doing this with some regularity).
- Is the IMDB page Valora Noland essentially accurate? That could be cited for what it covers.
- - Jmabel | Talk 15:24, 7 February 2013 (UTC)
Valora answers: There may be some article info more like what I put down, an article done on my photography around 1980. However . . . if Lisanti didn't get my place of birth right (and he didn't), that gives you a good idea about the rest. He asked why I didn't get the law involved when the bogus article was first published which he copied. I told him an upstart actress with little money is not able to fight back---only hold the breath and hope it all passes. Otherwise, though Pasadena Playhouse is long gone now, they still have available records, as does Famous Artists(the agency Dick Clayton worked out of)--if someone wanted to verify when I attended the Playhouse, and when signed with my first agent.
As for your second question, last time I checked imdb (some months ago) they listed me as being in "Mother", aka "Up Your Teddy Bear", about 1970. I was unaware of the film until I saw it on my imdb pg. It has been on and off. Last time, they wouldn't let me remove it. So, accurate? Not entirely. IMDB did check my birth info as being Seattle, WA. (called records in Seattle).
Using high speed cable, you can type franzbaumtheartist.net into the address bar at the top and you will get a pdf I created last year in memory of my father. It has his bio info, which includes Seattle, my birth, and moving to Santa Cruz. AND, it has some of his pictures which you may enjoy.Kamitra1 (talk) 23:06, 7 February 2013 (UTC)
- OK, so basically we are short on what would usually be considered reliable sources. That's OK; it just means the article is a bit under-referenced. I'm not at all interested in tracking them down: I was just bringing this into conformance with how articles are normally formatted, etc. Other than that, what you've written here is mostly stuff you might want to say on the article's talk page for anyone who might want to follow up. - Jmabel | Talk 00:37, 8 February 2013 (UTC)
SOMETHING NEW
Hello again Jmabel, it is a week since you last edited this page, and I have something new to offer to the Wikipedia. I don't want to bother you to help with it necessarily, so if you are busy, could you put me in touch with someone else? I have written an 8-1/2 by 11 regular size page--a report and review--for a film I was in which lacks such. Maybe I could copy/paste my page, now in Wordpad format, to somewhere on this site, and someone who knows their stuff could arrange it on the pg. Any suggestions? No photo to go with it at present. Valora Kamitra1 (talk) 19:47, 14 February 2013 (UTC)
- You can copy-paste an "unwikified" article; usually someone else will clean it up. Just put it up at the appropriate article location. Make sure you list your references in some manner, or it will probably be deleted as unverifiable. If that sounds intimidating, for the moment you can put the article at User talk:Kamitra1/Sandbox so that it is clear that it is something still being worked on
- I won't always have time to shepherd your stuff through, so rather than contacting me as an individual you should consider asking your questions at Wikipedia:New contributors' help page/questions where someone should generally be available to help you. In this case, after you put the article on Wikipedia, post a note on Wikipedia:New contributors' help page/questions asking if someone can take a look at what you've written and make suggestions. In your request it would be very helpful if you can provide a link to the article; e.g. the link [[Valora Noland]] shows as Valora Noland.
- I hope that's helpful. - Jmabel | Talk 23:35, 14 February 2013 (UTC)
Notification of proposal to ban Spanish articles from Did You Know?
Dear WikiProject Spain member,
There is currently a proposal to ban articles concerning a large area of southern Andalusia from appearing on the Main Page of Wikipedia in the Did you know? section. This would affect a significant number of articles within the scope of WikiProject Spain. If you have a view on this proposal, please see Wikipedia talk:Did you know/Gibraltar-related DYKs#Proposal for one-year moratorium on Gibraltarpedia DYKs. In addition, you may have a view on an alternative proposal to lift restrictions on Gibraltar-related articles on DYK - please see Wikipedia talk:Did you know/Gibraltar-related DYKs#Proposal for lifting the restrictions on Gibraltar-related DYKs. Request for help with italian translation
Hi Jmabel, I found your name through this list of translators and I thought I's ask you if you had the time perhaps you could stop by this italian article I'm in the process of porting over to the english WP. I've already done some work (and will continue to work on it) but a more experienced pair of eyes would certainly be of tremendous help. I understand if you don't have the time or if you're not interested. Cheers. Gaba p (talk) 15:22, 20 February 2013 (UTC)
- I'm really backlogged on projects of my own at this point. I probably wouldn't get to it for at least several weeks. I'd suggest you try to find someone else. If no one has taken it on by mid-March, feel free to try me again and see if my schedule is more open. My sincere apologies. - Jmabel | Talk 15:40, 20 February 2013 (UTC)
- No apologies needed, I'll just look around for another editor. Regards and thanks anyway! Gaba p (talk) 15:56, 20 February 2013 (UTC)
Record an .ogg file??
Hey Jmabel! I was wondering if you could might be able to help a Washington-related article out by recording an .ogg file. I totally like your .ogg file for the pronunciation of "Seattle" on the Seattle article (of course), and I was wondering if you could record one of these for the Spokane, Washington article as well if you have the time and it isnt asking too much or isnt too difficult. As you might know, the name "Spokane" is often butchered by people outside the Northwest (the "e" throws people-why did that add that?! lol) and it would be super useful and add a cool interactive feature to the article if it had one. If you dont have the time, thats alright, just thought it couldnt hurt to ask.
Anyway, great work and thanks! 75.106.202.98 (talk) 04:01, 2 May 2013 (UTC)
- Sure, but it probably won't be immediate. I can't even think where my recorder with a USB cable is, haven't used it in a while. - Jmabel | Talk 14:40, 2 May 2013 (UTC)
- Done. File:En-us-Spokane.ogg. Couldn't find the recorder, but I just recorded something half-decent directly on my laptop. Good enough to make the pronunciation clear. - Jmabel | Talk 06:19, 5 May 2013 (UTC)
- Ah cool, nice job Jmabel! The recording sounds great, it's real crisp and is pronounced perfectly. I'll put that thing on there right away; your recording will help tons of people out.
Thanks a bunch for lending a helping hand and great job! 75.106.202.98 (talk) 06:52, 5 May 2013 (UTC)

The Aurolac redirect is tagged for speedy deletion as I suspect it's an NPOV violation. - Who is John Galt? ✉ 20:36, 22 May 2013 (UTC)
- Apologies for the "attack page" note, that is an automated note that comes from Twinkle when I tag something for speedy deletion. That's why I replaced it with the current note. However, I still don't think the redirect is appropriate. A brand name of a commercial product, whether or not it is still sold, is not appropriate to redirect to an article about substance abuse. Huffing paint is a significant problem, but we don't redirect articles about bant brands to the article about huffing. - Who is John Galt? ✉ 17:42, 23 May 2013 (UTC)

House of Aviz-Beja
Would you mind translating pt:Dinastia de Avis and merging the contents in House of Aviz and House of Aviz-Beja? The use of Aviz-Beja (which looks like a modern invention uncommon in reliable sources) really irk me. I will understand if you are too busy.--The Emperor's New Spy (talk) 05:08, 21 June 2013 (UTC)
- I'll try to get to it; I'm pretty busy this next few days, though. - Jmabel | Talk 05:46, 21 June 2013 (UTC)
- Done. The Portuguese section on Aviz-Beja was a bit of a diatribe; I've translated it loosely and toned it down. Also, I've translated and provided much more thorough links and a bit more information in the section on notable members of the House of Aviz who were not monarchs. - Jmabel | Talk 07:01, 17 July 2013 (UTC)
- Thank you very much. You did more than I asked. Thanks again.--The Emperor's New Spy (talk) 07:04, 17 July 2013 (UTC)

Copy-paste vs. move
I am aware of the option. Unfortunately that move was no longer relevant as the title of the discussed article had already been in use, at that time redirected to the Olsen's main article by Assassin! No, Captain Assassin! (see an old revision dated May 28, 2013). Tweny13 (talk) 08:32, 9 August 2013 (UTC)
- A move (or even a history merge) is still perfectly possible at that point; it's just that it has to be done by an admin. See Wikipedia:How to fix cut-and-paste moves for how it can be sorted out even after the fact, once it's detected that someone did what you did. - Jmabel | Talk 16:19, 9 August 2013 (UTC)
Hello
Hi Joe,
I had a question for you. For reasons I won't go into, I ran across Russian Symphony Orchestra Society today, thank you for that by the way. I was wondering how you felt about having an "infobox" in the article. If you'd rather not get into it on-wiki, I'd fully understand. In fact there are days I wish I'd never heard the word "infobox" .. still I'd really be interested in your views and preferences on the topic - even if you just dropped an email to me. I know there is nothing in policy that covers this aspect of "articles" outside the "no wp:own" thing, still - you put the work into building that article, and I personally give weight to the people that actually do the article building. As an aside .. some very nice photos. While I don't contribute much to commons, I do enjoy photography. I have an old Nikon D-80, and was wondering what you shoot with. Cheers, — Ched : ? 19:33, 25 August 2013 (UTC)
- Russian Symphony Orchestra: feel free. I do intend to get back to that article, but I've had way too much else going on, and it's slow, slogging research through old newspapers.
- Photos: thanks. I'm shooting mainly with a Nikon D5000. - Jmabel | Talk 20:07, 25 August 2013 (UTC)

Thank youSetenlyacc (talk) 05:52, 19 September 2013 (UTC)
- I was considering taking both of them to ANI. The articles they are edit-warring on are a mess. However, I discovered that Setenlyacc ignored my warnings about copyvio and, as I did earlier with HistoryofIran, I have blocked him indefinitely which means he is blocked until we can be sure he understands our copyvio policy and can edit it without breaking it. Dougweller (talk) 07:11, 19 September 2013 (UTC)
- Sounds like Doug has the situation in hand, so I'm not wading in. I suggest to both Setenlyacc and HistoryofIran that when you are allowed back in (1) don't use copyrighted materials without appropriate permission and (2) try to reach consensus on the talk page before making major changes, and if you can't then it is time to seek a third opinion and abide by it. - Jmabel | Talk 15:16, 19 September 2013 (UTC)

Wikipedia Loves Libraries
Greetings! I am a student at the University of Puget Sound, and our library (the Collins Memorial Library) is considering hosting a Wikipedia Loves Libraries event! The only problem is, we're not really sure where to start. I have been busy doing some research (on Wikipedia) about the events other libraries have held across that nation, and I managed to stumble across your username when it had the word "Seattle" near it. I was hoping perhaps you could share some suggestions on the "dos" and "do nots" of Wikipedia meetups. I'm not a Wikipedian myself, so any information would be helpful. Also, if you know anyone in the area (Tacoma, Seattle, etc) who might be interested in the event, their coordination would be appreciated. Thank you! Christ Church Cathedral photography
Hi there. I'm dropping off a note to let you know that I used one of your images from Christ Church Cathedral (Vancouver) in an article. The image I used was of a war memorial tablet, this one. The article I used it in was memorial tablets to the British Empire dead of the First World War. You took that photograph 3 years ago. The equalizing helped, but I'm looking to try and get a better photo of that tablet. What I wanted to ask was whether you are in the area and able to get a better photo, or whether you know someone who would be willing to take a new photo? The other question I had, is whether you would know the best place to ask for a photo of the similar tablet that is in a church in Hamilton, Ontario (details in the article)? There are a couple of places I will ask about this, but I thought I'd start here as you took that photo. Carcharoth (talk) 01:19, 28 November 2013 (UTC)
- I live in Seattle, so it's a couple of hundred miles (and a border) away, so I'm not likely to be able to get another photo unless I happen to be there. Sorry I can't be more help. - Jmabel | Talk 17:55, 28 November 2013 (UTC)
- OK, thanks for the reply and thanks again for the original photograph. I'll drop a note off at WikiProject Canada and see if anyone there can help. Carcharoth (talk) 05:45, 29 November 2013 (UTC)

Hi, I'm currently expanding this and badly need images. Would [1] and [2] be acceptable to use? Wouldn't it be a derirative of a copyrighted work?♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:42, 23 January 2014 (UTC)
- If those are UK editions, then the covers are almost certainly still in copyright. If they are U.S. editions, then you'd have to look into whether copyright was renewed. Someone at Commons:Village pump/Copyright might be able to advise you further. - Jmabel | Talk 16:39, 23 January 2014 (UTC)
