Insults

- Is there anything you can do about 24.67.253.203 removing referenced material from the Murad Guman article?[2]. Thanks. Kansas Bear (talk) 04:37, 3 October 2008 (UTC)
Introduction
Since you're in right now, I'd like to drop by to say hi. I'm a relatively new member of WP:WPTC, and I'm getting to know most of the members by introducing myself to them; I've already introduced myself to Elena85, Hurricanehink, and Yellow Evan, so you make four. I joined the project as a result of my passion for tropical cyclones which began as a result of the one and only 2005 Atlantic hurricane season. After three years, my passion remains strong, and I am already planning my first tropical cyclone article; it will be on this year's Norbert in the Eastern Pacific, which I will begin in my sandbox once it is named.
Two more things. Feel free to take breaks in between reading them.
Copyright problem
Don't worry, you're not in trouble. But I have a question; let's just say there's a copyrighted album cover. Is it fair use to use the cover in a userbox that praises the album? I can't publish the userbox until I know whether or not it's fair use to do so.
- There should be no praising going on. This is an encyclopedia, not a fan club. As for non-free use of album covers, you may want to look at other non-free album covers on Wikipedia. Image:The_Beatles_1_album_cover.jpg is a good example. Plasticup T/C 23:18, 2 October 2008 (UTC)
- Also, see Wikipedia:User_page#Images_on_user_pages, which states "Do not include non-free images on your user page". Emphasis in the original. Plasticup T/C 23:39, 2 October 2008 (UTC)
Fake hurricanes
My passion for hurricanes has successfully affected my imagination. I've created my own hurricanes on an imaginary planet. Hurricane seasons on my fake planet are being contributed to by Elena85 and I, and Yellow Evan is currently under a yellow light. We currently have seasons for 1979, 1984, 1985, 1990,2002, and 1995, of which 2002, 1984, and 1990 are currently under construction You can join in if you want, and if you do, contact me on my talk page. I will then notify Elena85 (and possibly Yellow Evan).
I'll let you respond from there. Great logo! Dylan620 Life story 22:53 UTC October 2, 2008
Bruce Castle redlinks
Can you please not remove the redlinks on Bruce Castle; as Lords and MPs, they're members of a national legislature and all automatically notable by Wikipedia consensus, and I'm just waiting for Kittybrewster and BrownHairedGirl to fill in the redlinks. – iridescent 01:33, 3 October 2008 (UTC)

Foxy Loxy's RfA
Hello, this message is to inform you that User:Foxy Loxy has restarted their RfA. The new discussion is located at Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Foxy Loxy 2. GlassCobra 10:02, 3 October 2008 (UTC)
RfA thanks: You are most welcome!
Julian,
Just wanted to say you're welcome for your RfA thanks. Nobody has deserved this more than you ... I see you made the WP:100. Cool!
On other areas, I was up the Catskills hiking with my son Tuesday and finally got the pic for the Route 28 article (curving road in front of Balsam Mountain, looking west) that I was hoping to get for it. If you'd like me to add it soon, let me know; otherwise it's at the back of my picture queue and I doubt I'll be adding it before this year is up.
I am currently stuck on a computer where I'm working where I can't get JavaScript to work right, so in the absence of polishing some of my older Nelsonville NRHP articles as I've been doing lately I may actually have to get around to writing that route description for that article as I promised you I would. Imagine that! Daniel Case (talk) 15:16, 3 October 2008 (UTC)
Over at WP:NRHP, we recently came to consensus (a month after the issue was first raised) on what we should rename the many "List of Registered Historic Places in ..." articles to (since "Registered Historic Places" is a term the National Park Service doesn't use, nor does anyone in the historic preservation community. It's now to be (as you've probably noticed) "National Register of Historic Places listings in ...". You're certainly welcome to help (We'll be working on the categories later). Daniel Case (talk) 15:33, 3 October 2008 (UTC)
Not really (Can you tell we weren't enthusiastically looking forward to doing this?) I'd start by looking under Category:Lists of Registered Historic Places by state for unrenamed articles (I don't know if AWB can do moves or not; I had some problems with it a while back and haven't used it since). Daniel Case (talk) 15:39, 3 October 2008 (UTC)
I'm working on it as we trade messages (and please take heed of Don's below. You have to use the "National Register of Historic Places listings in ..." form. Daniel Case (talk) 16:00, 3 October 2008 (UTC)
mistake in NRHP list naming
Hi -- You renamed "List of Registered Historic Places in California" to List of Registered Historic Places listings in California. That's NOT anyone's proposal, that's NOT directly analogous to the renamings being done by Daniel Case for New York county lists or by others in other states. Please look at it more carefully. doncram (talk) 15:56, 3 October 2008 (UTC)
- got your message. i see you did a lot of others, too. Another thing, more minor, about your edit summaries, which applies to Daniel Case's as well, is that it is a bit chafing to assert that it is a wp:NRHP consensus. It comes across as argumentative to me in Daniel's usage, because there was/is not a unanimous consensus. And from you it comes across a bit weird, of course especially if you get it wrong.... I don't know, maybe describing it as "according to reported near-consensus at wt:NRHP" or something milder would be better. Not terribly important, but some nod to those who were not on board could be diplomatic. doncram (talk) 16:17, 3 October 2008 (UTC)

Checking sources
Julian, when checking sources, don't forget to look for mixed citation styles. The easiest way to check is to view the article in edit mode, scroll to the bottom of the page where transcluded templates are listed, and see if both {{citation}} and any of the cite xxx templates (book, web, journal) are mixed. Tropical Storm Norbert
Norbert's active now, which means so am I; I'm starting an article on it in my sandbox. Of course, the article is extremely stubby, but that's because I literally just got started minutes ago. Just thought you'd like to know.
P.S.: I'll remember to take your advice, and read a featured article (I'll read Hurricane Lane (2006), because it had origins similar to Norbert).
P.S.S.: In your spare time, come play a game here.
Education and the Vatican
Found these:
- Academies in Vatican City:
- Biblioteca Apostolica Vaticana (Vatican Library), includes the Vatican School of Librarianship
- Congregation for Catholic Education
- The Vatican Museums
- Has a reduced rate for students
- Conducts guided tours for school institutions (field trips)
- Publishes educational guides for children and youth
- Vatican School of Palaeography, Diplomacy, and Archivistry, run by the Secret Vatican Archives.
- Vatican City is too small to host extensive educational facilities, but the Holy See operates several pontifical universities close by (in Rome), which are often considered part of the Vatican:
I moved List of universities in Vatican City to List of pontifical universities, since they are not physically in Vatican City itself.
I bet there's more. :)
Hurricane Donna
Preparations were added. What kind of aftermath were you looking for? I know in some articles we can include aftermath after significant destruction has occurred, but I haven't uncovered anything like that for Donna. Thegreatdr (talk) 22:04, 10 October 2008 (UTC)
- Took your advice and reworded, though I can't figure out why the wikilink within the reference truncates like that. Will look again for more aftermath. Thegreatdr (talk) 00:00, 11 October 2008 (UTC)

I am extremely upset and saddened with the recent news of you repealing my edit. I believe that providing the public with Alec Baldwin's opinion (or lack there of) on Microprocessors is not only beneficial, but vital. I'm sure before my edit you didn't know what microprocesors were, I didn't know what microprocessors were, who cares? CASH! In conclusion, I desperately hope that you reconsider.

By the way, could you do me a favor? Please move Taiwanese to Taiwanese Hokkien (over the redirect there), and move Taiwanese (disambiguation) to Taiwanese.
I'm in the process of cleaning up the country adjectival (American, Cuban, Chinese, Iranian, etc. etc.) disambiguation pages, and Taiwanese sticks out like a sore thumb. When I'm done with Taiwanese, it'll be clear what's what, and it will match the weights given for the various contexts of the word as presented in the definitions of the main dictionaries out there, in accordance with WP:DISAMBIG.
The Transhumanist 19:20, 16 October 2008 (UTC)
- Nah, if someone doesn't like the solution, they can have it undone. There are two reasons to fix it this way: 1) it follows WP:DISAMBIG more closely than the current solution (since the Taiwanese dialect is not the main the use for the word "Taiwanese" - that usually means something from Taiwan, or a person from Taiwan), and 2) it'll match most of the other country adjectival disambigs (check my recent contribs to see how I've been cleaning these up). The Transhumanist 19:36, 16 October 2008 (UTC)
- Done - see Taiwanese. The Transhumanist 20:14, 16 October 2008 (UTC)
nice little side benefit
Now the treatment of the word on Wikipedia matches its Wiktionary counterpart.

- Thank you. Found a few more adjustments. I think it's done now. The Transhumanist 20:30, 16 October 2008 (UTC)

I appreciate your efforts to help fix up the NY State Symbols article. However, it is a list of symbols, not about the state of New York. Also, you just copied and pasted from the New York State article. Also, by adding Hurricanes you are promoting your own WikiProject (WP:Cyclones). Your edits had no reason. Please add to the article according tho the actual topic Juthani1 tcs 20:12, 16 October 2008 (UTC)
- Not advertising, but hurrianes have nothng to do with state symbols. I will add a short description. Juthani1 tcs 20:20, 16 October 2008 (UTC)
- That's why there is a list of New York related subjects in the "See Also" section. This list includes all ubjects including hurricanes. Juthani1 tcs 20:25, 16 October 2008 (UTC)
- If you really have the desire to add them, than do so. However, look at the very bottom of the page. There are template with these links already. These template serve the same purpose Juthani1 tcs 20:31, 16 October 2008 (UTC)
- Thank you so much for your help. And because you are an admin I am lucky to have your help

I'll bring it up on the talk page and then look at which sentence to cut. Usually, the sub-article has the details and the section in the main article is a summary (doesn't have completely different information).
It shouldn't have any effect on the FAC. In fact, I'll review the sub-article later with the intent on supporting it for FAC (or making helpful suggestions). Chergles (talk) 21:16, 16 October 2008 (UTC)
- Working on a shorter version (will need 15 minutes or so). Also made a note in the talk page of the long version with diff so people can see how it looks. Chergles (talk) 21:21, 16 October 2008 (UTC)
- First draft is done. Consider for the Effects in the US article writing each section the same way. The most important information is the wind speed. So every section should have that as the first or second sentence. Otherwise, the reader has to hunt for the information. Power outages are commonly reported. Maybe put that in a uniform way.
One possibility is to have a chart of locations and windspeeds.

Hi, look here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Joseph_Wurzelbacher#New_break particularly the comment "Delete This is adequately covered in the article about the election." If this logic is used, then your FAC could be subject to an AFD. On the other hand, if you rightly feel that coverage elsewhere doesn't result in deletion, then the above AFD might be ripe for your comments. I'm bringing this up solely for a better understanding of subarticles (AFD or not), not canvassing, as I have little feeling on Joe the Plumber. Chergles (talk) 21:48, 16 October 2008 (UTC)

Saw your comment. Apparently you haven't been reading the keeps. You see it seems that deleting the article violates WP:CRYSTAL because we don't know that he won't continue to become more notable. And yes that's an argument that's been made.--Cube lurker (talk) 23:08, 16 October 2008 (UTC)

Hi Julian! I am working on a GA review of Tropical cyclone basins. I've done a review of the prose and references, but I was wondering if you could take a quick look at the content. I'm not a TC guru, and so I want to make sure that there is nothing big that is missing from the article. Move request
Please move Germans to German people, over the redirect there.
I'm about to write a disambiguation page for Germans, and _____ people appears to be the best standard plural demonym, since it fits all demonymic grammatical forms (ans, ians, ish, ois, ese, is, s, and even the unique ones like "French", "Dutch", etc.). So "Fijians" becomes Fijian people, which matches Japanese people, Irish people, French people, etc.
Thank you.

Effects of Noel in the US
I have no desire to stop people's requests for FA. However, I am not too happy about the article. It is a long dizzy list. There should be better analysis of the storm track, easy to find windspeeds of the course of the storm (rather than searching through different paragraphs), and an analysis of how the storm is different or the same.
I could help you but I don't want to you think I am chopping out text, adding text, and re-writing stuff. Should I do anything or leave it up to you?

Hi Julian, You've probably noticed that the FA-Team has just launched a mission to help WikiProject AP Biology 2008 and WikiProject North of the Rio Grande improve articles towards featured quality. Another hurricane question
Julian - Thanks so much for your comments on the Tropical cyclone basins article. It always helps to have someone who is a subject expert review the article to catch anything that I may have missed as a layman. If you wouldn't mind helping me again, could you take a look at Hurricane Max (2005)? This article is up for GA, but is very short and (although everything is referenced) does not have a large variety of sources. To my eyes it looks like everything is covered, since the storm had no impact and no watches or warnings were issued, but it would be great if you could take a look and drop any comments you may have on the review page. Early season snowfall
You said you live in the northeast right? I'm not sure if I remember you ever saying that you lived in NY but in Ulster County, there's the possibility of up to 16 inches of snow. Cyclonebiskit (talk) 21:35, 27 October 2008 (UTC)
- Lucky, I've been dying for snow here. I'm in southern Westchester and there hasn't been a good snowfall since the storm in feb of 2006. They're saying winds gusting up to 60mph and heavy rain, maybe some wet snow here. A lot of trees still have their leaves here too, I didn't lose power over the weekend, but might not be so lucky this time since their going to be much stronger. Cyclonebiskit (talk) 22:04, 27 October 2008 (UTC)
- That seems to be the theme recently. I remember last year they were forecasting 12 to 15 inches of snow one night. I pulled an all nighter to get it cleaned up quickly to get the dogs out in the morning. But while watching the radar, the rain just turned to a mix...and barely any snow. The forecast still showed 6 to 12 inches but once morning hit, it went to up to an inch. When I measured it, it was about 1.5" of sleet and semi-frozen slush. Wasted a whole night of sleep for nothing. Cyclonebiskit (talk) 22:14, 27 October 2008 (UTC)
Just ran across this one for my area. (no school because power is still out there).
"Mostly cloudy. Rain and snow showers likely in the evening...then scattered rain and snow showers after midnight. Total snow accumulation up to 1 inch...mainly at higher elevations. Windy with lows in the mid 30s. West winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 45 mph. Chance of precipitation 70 percent."
First snowfall of the year, quite early too. Cyclonebiskit (talk) 12:38, 28 October 2008 (UTC)
- Maybe next time you'll get more. I just checked the radar, and I'm in a dry pocket right now, but to my east, it's snowing. I haven't seen a real snowfall of at least an inch since...December I think. Cyclonebiskit (talk) 13:00, 28 October 2008 (UTC)

I don't want to interfere with your rest, so please don't feel you have to hurry up to reply to this.
The issue with "Road to Germany" is larger than some disagreement over one little detail. There is a faction that wants to block access to all articles pertaining to Family Guy. Any edit by someone outside their faction is immediately reverted without regard to whether or not it is correct or even if that editor philosophically agrees with them. Often the only problem is that the editor does not belong to their faction. To accomplish this goal, they are interpreting the rules in their own unique way and when challenged on their interpretation, they merely repeat the rules, even if the rule doesn't apply at all. Want proof? Look at the edit history for any article of not-yet-aired Family Guy episodes. Cromulent Kwyjibo (talk) 21:48, 28 October 2008 (UTC)

I saw what that vandal wrote on that page. I would have reverted it myself, but I forgot my password! Anyway, thanks! Toonami Reactor (talk) 00:02, 29 October 2008 (UTC)

GA Barnstars
I see that you have given a 75th GA barnstar. I have never received either a 75th or 100th if there is such a thing. Who do I need to know to get one.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:LOTM) 04:23, 30 October 2008 (UTC)
- You would need to have 75 GAs, I think. [ roux ] [x] 04:25, 30 October 2008 (UTC)

Hi Julian. The article on Connie Talbot received a copyedit, so I would like to ask you to give it another look and possibly change your vote on the FAC page. - Mgm|(talk) 08:01, 30 October 2008 (UTC)

Adoption
Welcome back, JC! I have been looking for mentorship recently, and I was wondering if you could be my mentor. I would love to be an administrator on Wikipedia someday, and school (a.k.a. WP:AAU) would be the first place for me to start. I would like to learn how to use Twinkle appropriately and responsibly, how to perform administrative tasks with ease, how to establish, program, and operate bot accounts, and how to perform professional GA and peer reviews. I would also like to learn how to be an excellent writer on Wikipedia, being given the knowledge and ability to write featured and good articles. Should you accept, I will promptly create a dedicated subpage within my userspace.
P.S.: I was initially considering Hurricanehink (talk · contribs), but I've decided to let him continue with his break without disturbance.
P.S.S.: Happy Halloween! --Dylan620 (Home • yadda yadda yadda • Ooooohh!) 19:14, 31 October 2008 (UTC)
I would like my program to be sort of a combo between admin coaching and adoption, thank you. I have read from Hurricanehink's talk page once that you were coached by him. If you think about it, this is a little like a hand-me-down system; you were coached by Hurricanehink, and now I'm being coached by you! Oh, and since you have accepted my request, I will create a dedicated subpage here. Thanks for adopting me! --Dylan620 (Home • yadda yadda yadda • Ooooohh!) 19:21, 31 October 2008 (UTC)
OK, I've created the subpage. Here's the link:
I have to go to a family wedding at about 2200 UTC (6:00 P.M. EDT), so we can work together until then before resuming tomorrow morning at about 1200 UTC (8:00 A.M. EDT). I'll see you at my adoption page! --Dylan620 (Home • yadda yadda yadda • Ooooohh!) 19:32, 31 October 2008 (UTC)
OK, the task's completed. What would the next lesson be, by the way? FYI, please do not answer at my talk page, rather the "classroom" instead. --Dylan620 (Home • yadda yadda yadda • Ooooohh!) 19:55, 31 October 2008 (UTC)
I'm back for a very short time, in case there are any tasks that can be fit in today. --Dylan620 (Home • yadda yadda yadda • Ooooohh!) 21:05, 31 October 2008 (UTC)
...And I'm off again. See you tomorrow morning! --Dylan620 (Home • yadda yadda yadda • Ooooohh!) 21:08, 31 October 2008 (UTC)
Although it's a little late for me (10:00 PM my local time), I'm back on Wikipedia due to being unusually awake following a family wedding. I had a great time, BTW. If you're still awake, how's about a couple last lessons before I'm really done for the night? If not, see you in the morning!
P.S.: Don't worry; I already know how to indent my comments.
P.S.S.: I have seen that Itfc+canes+me would like to be admin coached by you. If at all possible, do you think he could sort of be my classmate in school? --Dylan620 (Home • yadda yadda yadda • Ooooohh!) 02:11, 1 November 2008 (UTC)
OK, now I'm off for the evening. Good night! I'll be ready for more lessons first thing in the morning. --Dylan620 (Home • yadda yadda yadda • Ooooohh!) 03:27, 1 November 2008 (UTC)
Despite receiving a measly six hours of sleep (voluntarily, BTW), I feel fantastic! As a matter of fact, I'm ready for school! What's the next lesson, BTW? --Dylan620 (Home • yadda yadda yadda • Ooooohh!) 10:41, 1 November 2008 (UTC)
Another one moved to article space!
Topic outline of Zimbabwe is now in article space. It still needs images and some bluelinking, and is undoubtedly missing some relevant links.
Please take a look at it. You will no doubt spot things you can easily fix that I overlooked.
Admin Coachin
Seeing as you are an admin now... Could you possible - after you have finished with Dylan.... Admin coach me?
As I am not getting anywhere with the Admin Coaching page.

Question
I'm probably just not reading carefully enough but...How do I get an article up to A-class? Cyclonebiskit (talk) 21:27, 31 October 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks. I'm going to add an image to Tropical Storm Karina (2008) then put it up. Not going to try for FA after your amazing effort to get Erick (2007) to FA didn't work because it was such a short lived storm, and Karina was even shorter. Cyclonebiskit (talk) 21:31, 31 October 2008 (UTC)
- Really? Well, regardless, it's best I wait for Tropical Storm Kiko (2007) to pass or fail FAC before attempting to put Karina up for it. Problem is getting a good image that doesn't mirror the main image. Cyclonebiskit (talk) 21:38, 31 October 2008 (UTC)
- Looks good to me. I might grayscale a NRL image from about the same time, but it shows a bit more organization and convection. Cyclonebiskit (talk) 21:43, 31 October 2008 (UTC)
- I've put it up Assessment page:) Is this faster than FAC? Because Kiko has just been sitting for several days now and has been around for almost two weeks with no opposition. Cyclonebiskit (talk) 23:25, 31 October 2008 (UTC)
