Hi Keith, I noted your comments to the above new editor on:- Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_UK_geography#Metropolitan_Boroughs:_names_in_infoboxes. Unfortunately he does not seem to care about consensus and just reverts corrections to his edits, See:- Borough of Halton. He was also warned about inserting un-required flag icons in infoboxes on his talk page, However he has now deleted the multitude of warnings off there, by several editors, and continued along in his own way. There is also something strangely familiar about his editing style, to someone who has been indef blocked, although I can't recall the particular editors username. Richard Harvey (talk) 10:34, 20 August 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for the note. Cannot remember the user name for previous editor with this style. Looks like they are heading for a block. Keith D (talk) 10:52, 20 August 2013 (UTC)
I have done 5 of the 8 regions just the southern ones to be done hopefully someone will complete the job while I am away. Keith D (talk) 11:47, 21 August 2013 (UTC)

The Family Rain Page - Semi-Protected

Hi Keith!

I noticed that you changed The Family Rain page to semi-protected due to vandalism. I wanted to make a change to the article as I think someone has put in some history for the band that's not very central to them now but is taking up a lot of space, and wanted to add some context to it to bulk it out!

In the 2nd paragraph where it says -

"The band was formed following the dissolution of the brother's previous band, the AC/DC influenced Rock Pirates formed in 2004[1] with guitarist Tom Johnson who were describe as an "irony-free Darkness with bare torsos and blond highlights" and later named Dark Horse who released a self titled EP in February 2010."

Is there any chance you could get this changed to -

"Ollie was the driving force to get the other brothers into music. He started playing guitar at 14 and then persuaded the twins to pick up instruments, Will playing bass and Tim, drums, calling themselves Rock Pirates, and later Dark Horse who released a self titled EP in February 2010."

"Will said: “Ollie picked up a guitar and then it was a very natural thing. We were growing out of an obsession with wrestling so had to go somewhere."

This is the link for to reference the change - http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/entertainment/music/music-news/new-indie-blues-rockers-family-2142125

The info is from this interview that they did for the Daily Record which is much newer than those other references cited and the words are the band's! :) Bare torsos and blond highlights isn't very Family Rain, and if people want to find out more about those past bands that they used yo be in then they can click the links up there already!! Freddiesponge (talk) 11:16, 21 August 2013 (UTC)

There seems to be a consistent effort to get rid of the existing information on this for some reason which is why it was semi-protected in the first place so I am not prepared to remove the existing information. Keith D (talk) 11:20, 21 August 2013 (UTC)
I have added the reference to the existing material, quoting is not really useful especially in the lead sections of articles so have not added the quotes. Keith D (talk) 11:42, 21 August 2013 (UTC)

Hello Keith, This is William Walter from the family rain. I understand there has been some discussion on our Wikipedia page for some time so I thought I should contact you personally to sort through some things. From what I can see there is some inaccurate information on our page. As the creator of the family rain, I can confirm the band was not "formed following the dissolution of the brother's previous band, the AC/DC influenced Rock Pirates".Also it is not associated to the band darkhorse. It is a separate entity with no connection artistically, creatively, musically, to any of these projects, in the minds of its creators. The family rain was formed in 2011 with no previous material, no contacts and no platform in the music industry, it is not a re-creation or evolution of any other band/projects. Nobody has ever stated these band are linked and there is no reliable source to state that they are. I understand Wikipedias policy's on dealing with page on living people are very thorough and fair, the information on our page is inaccurate and we deem it damaging to the online presence of the family rain. Although I acknowledge myself and my brother were in these other bands as people there is no purpose, reason or justification for that information being on the family rain Wikipedia page. In light of this information I trust you will remove the following text

"The band was formed following the dissolution of the brother's previous band, the AC/DC influenced Rock Pirates formed in 2004[1] with guitarist Tom Johnson[2] who were describe as an "irony-free Darkness with bare torsos and blond highlights"[3] and later named Dark Horse who released a self-titled EP in February 2010.[4][5]"

As there is some controversy over the changes to this particular page suggest that you take to its talk page and agree some wording changes to this article with the other parties and this will prevent the problems caused on this article. Keith D (talk) 13:24, 22 October 2013 (UTC)

Hello Keith.

Thanks for getting back to me.

Is it necessary for me to take our conversation to the article talk page to get the article corrected? As far as I can see I would just be talking to you. I came straight to you because I understand you have the ability to edit the page.

Thanks for your time

William

Once you have agreed changes and gained consensus with the other parties involved on the talk page then I can make changes to the page. The material you wish to remove is reliably sourced which is one of our criteria for inclusion, often "verifiability, not truth" is what we end up with. Other parties disagree with its removal so you need to gain consensus on what should be in the article. Keith D (talk) 13:36, 24 October 2013 (UTC)

Ok, I will put something up on the talk page now. Thanks for your help

Will

Hello Keith, I have raised the issue on the talk page and after waiting a day there has been no action/response. There seems to be no dispute from any other users regarding the requested changes. As I said before I deem the material inacurate and damaging and really just need the article to change as soon as possible. Thanks William Walter

Patience is a virtue - I would give people a chance to respond to this probably a fortnight or more or at least until there are some responses, especially as the people involved are IPs who cannot be directly contacted. Keith D (talk) 21:26, 25 October 2013 (UTC)

Re: Coordinates

You are quite right to point this out. In fact, initial inspections leads me to suggest two bugs: firstly, the conversion *back* to grid reference seems to be different here (correct) vs here (incorrect). Note that in those cases, the links in the left (global) panel indicate the correct point: the sole error is with the data passed to the utilities in the right-hand (UK) panel.

Some of the others do appear to have problems with the entry in both panels; I'll be investigating those as well (probably more concerning). Thanks for letting me know and I've stopped the bot for the moment to investigate. - Jarry1250 [Vacation needed] 10:49, 22 August 2013 (UTC)

Upon further review, I can't replicate the aforementioned errors with the "global" links. It's the UK ones that roundtrip via bad OS grid references that are now wrong. - Jarry1250 [Vacation needed] 17:47, 22 August 2013 (UTC)
Having spoken to Dispenser, who maintains geohack, I'm now confident this is just a bug in geohack and I'm going to continue updating the coordinates. - Jarry1250 [Vacation needed] 19:01, 22 August 2013 (UTC)

===Also, coordinates according to style manual should be in the {{||||||}}format, not{{Lat|||Long|||}}. Or is this obsolecent? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jabberwoch (talkcontribs) 21:30, 4 September 2013 (UTC)

You are going to have to clarify that as I am unsure what you are getting at or what MOS you are referring to. Though as far as I know lat/long format is valid as an input format. Keith D (talk) 21:41, 4 September 2013 (UTC)

Hull City

Dougie Wilson and Joe Cracknell are not in the Hull City 1st team squad. They don't have a squad number - nor will they get one this year. Why then do you keep insisting they are listed? Why not list every single player in the youth team? Why not list every single person in the world? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 212.50.172.211 (talk) 13:33, 5 September 2013 (UTC)

Advice sought please.

Keith, i would like to draw your attention to Talk:Acomb, North Yorkshire page and the section i have added on the recent article activity. Your informed advice would be welcome. Rimmer1993 (talk) 22:13, 13 September 2013 (UTC)

It might just be me, but i think there is a pattern emerging in some Yorkshire articles around York and Selby. There are several users, which i suspect to be one and the same person. The pattern is putting in unreferenced populations and also inserting some unattractive pictures into these articles, some of which are not in those areas, have replaced perfectly reasonable ones with more aesthetically questionable ones or just done the latter where a picture was not present. The three accounts in question are Haitypol,Steve Wajkelszc or just IP address 217.43.245.118. Worth looking at?Rimmer1993 (talk) 19:37, 22 September 2013 (UTC)
May be worth an WP:SPI to see if it is the same person. Keith D (talk) 20:10, 22 September 2013 (UTC)
I think we have another candidate for a sockpuppet for these users. Same style of editing, putting in unreferenced info and changing perfectly correct info, especially at Areas of the City of York. User in questin is Foxwoodeditor. I haven't got round to doing the SPI yet. Rimmer1993 (talk) 21:10, 23 September 2013 (UTC)
Correction, SPI submitted today. Rimmer1993 (talk) 22:00, 23 September 2013 (UTC)
Just to update, the SPI is stalled a bit but i have notified the admins that there is another mobile suspect called Thomas Ryebridge who has made identical edits to others under investigation, namely Haitypol, concerning the unsourced change to the population of York in a couple of lists amongst others.Rimmer1993 (talk) 17:32, 6 October 2013 (UTC)

The SPI was ultimately unsuccessful as the main evidence was gathered against an IP address which the admins can't use to trace behaviour. Despite finding several different users and providing the "diffs" to support my case, the problem was these users never made many similar changes before creating new identities and so was very difficult to prove they were same person. This message was prompted as i saw you reverted an edit by my last suspect York information on the York page. I guess it is a case of continuing vigilance. Sigh!!! Rimmer1993 (talk) 18:50, 20 October 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for keeping me up to date. Cannot think of anything else to do just have to keep an eye on the articles in question. Keith D (talk) 19:09, 20 October 2013 (UTC)

vandalism in Lurs and Luristan page

Hi Keith D

"HistoryofIran" user vandalism in Lurs and Luristan page. He remove All Historical images and "Lur people of iran" map no valid reason. I ask you to stop doing this "HistoryofIran" user.

Thank youSetenlyacc (talk) 05:54, 19 September 2013 (UTC)

I was considering taking both of them to ANI. The articles they are edit-warring on are a mess. However, I discovered that Setenlyacc ignored my warnings about copyvio and, as I did earlier with HistoryofIran, I have blocked him indefinitely which means he is blocked until we can be sure he understands our copyvio policy and can edit it without breaking it. Dougweller (talk) 07:12, 19 September 2013 (UTC)
Many thanks for handling this. Unsure why they selected me for message as have not edited either of those pages. Keith D (talk) 10:51, 19 September 2013 (UTC)

Timestamps/JMHamo edit warring/Leon Best Wikipedia page

I thought I'd point this out since you and a couple of other usual suspects are giving me grief over arbitrary nonsense like timestamps.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leon_Best

First of all that page is locked because of JMHamo edit warring, just like several dozen other pages on Wikipedia right now. Look at his stats and look at the timestamp. Now look at his Soccerbase page http://www.soccerbase.com/players/player.sd?player_id=38733.

As of "21:36, 21 September 2013 (UTC)", he had 10 appearances and 1 goal, not 11 appearances and 2 goals. As of today, he is making his 13th appearance and has 2 goals.

So a page is locked because of timestamps and the timestamp isn't even correct (and neither are the appearances).

So don't preach to me about timestamps and don't report me for actually doing them properly. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.44.243.163 (talk) 14:30, 6 October 2013 (UTC)

If you follow the rules then pages will not get locked and you will be able to edit them. There are things that I do not like on here but have to abide by the consensus and do things that I would not wish to do. All you have to do is stop putting the timestamps as you want them to be, abide by the format that is required and all will be fine. Keith D (talk) 18:39, 6 October 2013 (UTC)

The template {{Commons category}} when empty defaults to the name of the page, so there is no need to put the page name in it. I am not going to change it back, because it will direct to the same Commons category. Snowman (talk) 23:07, 12 October 2013 (UTC)

It is better to have the name in the template call to avoid problems if the page is moved and the link gets broken. Keith D (talk) 07:12, 13 October 2013 (UTC)
I thought that is what you had in mind, partly because this page has been moved quite recently. Snowman (talk) 11:05, 13 October 2013 (UTC)

Peace (band)

Hi Keith. I see you've worked on the Peace (band) Page before. There seems to be a lot of back & forth between people changing the history to include information involving a band "November & the Criminal."

I think the current version ( 20:51, 27 October 2013‎ 107.60.95.177 ) is an ok starting point & doesn't dismiss the bands previous involvement with November & the Criminal but someone (ip. 92.8.31.130) is often destroying edits to revert to their version which is loaded with irrelevant information which is greatly beneficial to people who were involved with November & the Criminal (irrelevant) but have had absolutely no involvement with Peace (relevant).

Does that makes sense? Is there anything that can be done? It's obviously very common that when a band enjoys success that every man & their dog needs to get their name involved but when it's irrelevant to the band which the page is on surely it becomes destructive?

Maybe the person should make a separate page for November & The Criminal? There's 4 references on the edit ( 20:51, 27 October 2013‎ 107.60.95.177 ) where the band have directly verified in interviews that November & The Criminal was a Different band/project/venture artistically & Although there's 1 reference which says differently I don't see how a dated piece of misinformed press can stand up against multiple verifications directly from the artist? & regardless, should it be ok to fill a page about Peace with information on a different band?

Hope you're well. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 107.60.95.177 (talk) 21:12, 27 October 2013 (UTC)

I did notice the back and forth on this page but could not decide what should be the state of the article. Often previous bands are included rather than create separate articles covering something which probable will not meet inclusion standards. Keith D (talk) 21:19, 27 October 2013 (UTC)

I agree it probably isn't of significance to require an entire separate article. Some of the information which gets wedged into the page just seems a bit well, irrelevant when there's a lot of relevant info on the group missing from the article. Will keep an eye on. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.93.184.209 (talk) 00:29, 28 October 2013 (UTC)

Conflict of interest here again (as with the article on The Family Rain!), as a band member keeps editing the page from wherever they are on tour - see the talk page on the article. The suggestion that I am editing the page to promote myself or others is farcical as I have never had any connection to the band. I researched the band, and added the information to the article in good faith to amek th article as informative as possible.

However, in reponse to their comments, I have removed the band member names from The Third Exit (as they are incorrectly suggesting that whoever added those names must be one of them) and removed the unreferenced changes they made. Re the info about November & The Criminal and Peace - an article from the time and logic demonstrates they were/are the same band as they never split up and are the same four band members - the band have retrospectively claimed they were different bands. That would be like Blur claiming that they are a different band to Seymour or Joy Division claiming they are a different band to Warsaw (they don't/didn't). I don't think it's valid to claim a band changing name/songs but remaining as the same lineup eqautes to the band being a different band.

Keighley and Worth Valley Railway

Hi. I've just added a ref here - Keighley and Worth Valley Railway - after just seeing a prog on BBC4 that supports text in the article. I am unsure of this kind of ref and the way to write it. Is noting content in a television program OK, and if so, are there specific guidelines as to how to describe such ? If what I've added is a no-no, please revert. Many thanks. Acabashi (talk) 23:20, 27 October 2013 (UTC)

Have not seen any usages but looks OK. Wikipedia:Videos as references appears to be the place to look. Keith D (talk) 00:21, 28 October 2013 (UTC)
