peace (band)

peace (band) is under credible media coverage to the massachusetts musician artist group prior to the formation of a similar group from the UK. under wikipedia guidelines this page should under due process remain as the US based group from original origin. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Historicarticles (talkcontribs) 16:45, 8 May 2013 (UTC)

The article was created as the English band and we have no article for the American band. People keep trying to change this article to the American band but that should not be the way to proceed. If you wish you can create another article under a different dab probably Peace (US band). Keith D (talk) 14:47, 10 May 2013 (UTC)

It should probably be pointed out that this user has also been vandalising Eight (band). 92.8.27.47 (talk) 11:25, 16 May 2013 (UTC)

Thanks. I have already reverted their changes there with this edit. Keith D (talk) 11:32, 16 May 2013 (UTC)

The account is only used for making repeated nuisance edits, so why have they not been banned? None of their edits have been constructive and have all been reverted! 92.8.27.47 (talk) 13:22, 16 May 2013 (UTC)

Restoring vandalism

Hi Keith. I'm sure you didn't intend to, but I thought that you'd want to know that on three occasions in February you restored defamatory, BLP-violating content on Julia Mulligan: [1] [2] [3]. The line "evading her duty to confront misconduct, rather than show honesty, integrity and leadership, and actually deal with the problem" seems, to me, to be a fairly clear attempt at POV-pushing against the subject, though I acknowledge that the surrounding text appeared, at a glance, to be legitimate. — PinkAmpers&(Je vous invite à me parler) 09:35, 16 May 2013 (UTC)

Thanks. It just looked like vandalism as text appeared at first glance to be referenced and OK. The subsequent ones were probably just without looking as it was the same removal. Obviously I did not check in detail of the text. Looks like there some COI now as the subject appears to be editing the article. Keith D (talk) 10:57, 16 May 2013 (UTC)

Talk:River Welland/GA1

River Welland is undergoing a GAN. It is a decent article, and will meet GA criteria - though there are a few queries, and a little bit of work to be done on the lead, on the layout, and on incorporating a couple of lists into the article. The review has been put on hold for an initial seven days to allow the work to be done. SilkTork ✔Tea time 23:22, 24 May 2013 (UTC)

Well done. Keep up the good work! SilkTork ✔Tea time 10:11, 31 May 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for the review. Sorry I was away when you reviewed it but looks like others have responded to the queries raised. Keith D (talk) 18:34, 1 June 2013 (UTC)

Willoughton

Hi, could you keep an eye on Willoughton for a while please - it's getting heavily hit by a vandal and I don't want to fall foul of the 3 revert rule. It looks like a new "editor" might be a sock of a slightly less new "editor". Thanks. Acabashi (talk) 15:34, 2 June 2013 (UTC)

Will do, though may be a little slow to spot as I have 2 weeks of changes to work through. Keith D (talk) 15:44, 2 June 2013 (UTC)

Results by round

There is a long-standing consensus at WT:FOOTY that results-by-round tables should not be included due to the sketchy definition of a "round". Not all matches in a "round" are played on the same weekend, let alone the same day, due to postponements, etc. Therefore, the position a club is in after a particular "round" may not be a true reflection of where they would be had all teams played the same number of games. Furthermore, due to the ability to colour the collapsible footballbox template, there is no need to indicate the actual result per "round" in a table, as people can scroll up and down to view the different colours. By the way, that Hull City article is an absolute mess of empty tables. I suggest you comment a lot of it out because at the minute it is making the encyclopaedia look pretty unprofessional. – PeeJay 11:43, 3 June 2013 (UTC)

Timestamp changes reverted by IP

Just noticed that in about three to six occasions, 86.44.247.122 (talk · contribs) has reverted your timestamp updates as "maligned" (on one occasion, even considered as vandalism). Penny any thoughts? hmssolent\You rang? ship's log 13:35, 10 June 2013 (UTC)

IP blocked by Mattythewhite BTW. hmssolent\You rang? ship's log 13:39, 10 June 2013 (UTC)
It is just 1 person who keeps IP hopping that insists on removing, giving an incorrect timestamp or mangling the timestamp by removing just the time element, on usually Irish football player articles, it has been discussed a few times on the WP:FOOTY project during last season. Because I tend to correct them on some of the articles on my watchlist it anoys said IP and they revert with various comments, some personal atacks. They went away for a time but have just restarted with the international matches that have just taken place. Without range blocking or protecting all of the articles that the IP is interested in I cannot see a way to resolve this. They know they are against consensus, but insist on continuing. You can see from the reverts of the last couple of days that they are just picking perfectly random edits of mine from football related articles for reversion for a game to see if they can annoy me into correcting their errors. Mattythewhite has reverted some of these random changes by the said IP. Keith D (talk) 18:07, 10 June 2013 (UTC)
This one HMSSolent. Sorry I havent been able to keep an up to date list (busy- which is good). Murry1975 (talk) 18:45, 10 June 2013 (UTC)
Today's reverts are by 86.44.240.241 see comment on their talk page Keith D (talk) 13:22, 11 June 2013 (UTC)

This heading is an oxymoron if I ever heard one. I update players timestamps every week and then certain people come along and change them, even though they were correct to begin with. Adding the exact timeframe of your own edit is not mandatory or correct and it just confuses other users, who are confused about the last time John Doe footballer played his last match.

Of course Keith D only concentrates on Hull City footballers. He doesn't care about timestamps (or lack of) for the hundreds of other footballers, for all he goes on about the "project". I do a lot of editing for free, no reward, and this is the thanks I get. Immaturity like this....

You have just added a protection template for a footballer called Gary Dicker, because I removed the timestamp for International football. This footballer is 27 years old, has never played senior Interational football at any level and is no longer eligible for the U-21 National football team. The International timestamp is rendered redundant.

It is not my fault if some of the users on Wikipedia are overgrown children who refuse to accept when they are in the wrong and cancel or pointlessly amend other people's edits out of spite and malfeasance.

But I can be an overgrown child too.

Stainfield near Bourne

I've added this new one to Lincs. I'm not sure if the convention is 'nr.', 'nr' or 'near'. If I've made a mistake, please move, even if "Bourne" is wrong - I can't think of another way to distinguish between this and the other Linc's Stainfield. Also it needs an independent eye for assessment level for Lincs project on its Talk page. Also, I can't get my head around the Domesday Map site template. I can't find the OS link on the relevant DM web page to add, and mine for the info box goes 404 - would be glad for help on this within this article, and I will observe. Many thanks. Acabashi (talk) 21:00, 12 June 2013 (UTC)

I have made some tweaks, cannot think of better dab at the moment. Looks like you have fixed the OS link as it works, OK. Suggest you change the HAT on Stainfield to point to the new article and may be put one on the new article. The dab will need adding on List of United Kingdom locations: Sow-Stao. Many thanks - will do. Acabashi (talk) 00:22, 13 June 2013 (UTC)

NHLE template

I asked for a refinement on this temp to remove the blue links to "National Heritage List for England" and "English Heritage" for when there are multiple cites to NHLE, to avoid excessive overlinking. This has been now done, thanks to PBS, with a new "fewer-links=x" parameter, as: {{NHLE |num = 1001520 |desc = Pearson Park |accessdate=21 June 2013| fewer-links=x}}.[1] Hope this is useful.

Fulstow

Advice please. In this article there is a picture of a village hall with two children openly featured. I can understand it might be reasonable to add pics with crowds at distance, such as with markets and football where people can't be readily identified, but here identification of individuals could be made. Pics of subjects of a BLP can be added, as can people images from times past, but this appears to me to be the equivalent in picture of either outing living people, or promoting non-notable people, in text. Are there any guidelines on the picturing of identifiable living individuals ? Thanks. Acabashi (talk) 03:16, 25 June 2013 (UTC)

Probably Wikipedia:Image use policy#Privicy rights is where to look. I would see if another image of the village hall is available and replace it. Keith D (talk) 10:51, 25 June 2013 (UTC)
Image Privacy rights doesn't look to cover my specific concern over this picture, which may present a policy area that needs adjusting. I shall bring this up on the Image use policy talk page. Many thanks. Acabashi (talk) 12:21, 25 June 2013 (UTC)

Deric Longden

Hi, I reverted your edit as I'm not sure what you meant about seeing "no connection to Yorkshire" in the article - for the last 20-odd years of his life he lived in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire (which is actually spelled out in the article), and his last few autobiographical books described his and his wife's life there. I'd say that was a pretty clear connection to Yorkshire, actually. Mabalu (talk) 14:08, 30 June 2013 (UTC)

I see that you have made a number of edits to the entry for Hampton School and wonder if you can help. The page does not seem to be displaying properly (at least on an iPad): it displays as a very narrow column on the left of the screen. I wondered if you might be able to correct this. Thanks 2011jps (talk) 18:36, 3 July 2013 (UTC)

I do not know exactly what the display looks like for you. But I have corrected a formatting problem at the end of the Rowing section that may be the cause of what you are seeing. Check again and see if that has fixed the problem for you. Keith D (talk) 18:46, 3 July 2013 (UTC)

Beighton railway station

Hello Keith, thank you for giving Beighton the once-over. I've now completed what I was doing when guests arrived early, including the Cupit and Taylor ref page, but I'm afraid I can't help with Pixton's North Midland book publication date or page number, I don't have the book and simply honoured what the originator had put (or not put, in the case of page number.) The in-line 2013 date seems rather rum, as looking through the history, whoever cited the work must have been in 2011 or before, as it wasn't redrose earlier this year and wasn't me. Maybe the inline date is a) wrong or b) refers to a new edition. All the best, Dave DavidAHull (talk) 21:50, 7 July 2013 (UTC)

I've now managed to get hold of Pixton Part 2 Chesterfield-Sheffield-Rotherham. I have it in front of me as I type and it says it was published in 2001. Hope this helps, DaveDavidAHull (talk) 20:22, 8 August 2013 (UTC)
Thanks, I have changed the article to sort out the contradiction. As you have the book to hand may be you could add the appropriate page number to article. Keith D (talk) 21:44, 8 August 2013 (UTC)
I've tried, but I can't find any reference to Beighton station in Pixton at all so I've removed the citation. I've worked down the Old Road stations from Treeton to Whittington adding the pages, correcting the ISBNs and the years as appropriate. DaveDavidAHull (talk) 22:34, 8 August 2013 (UTC)

Technical RM: 1 done?

Here you said "1 done", but the move didn't get done. Dicklyon (talk) 05:05, 11 July 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for spotting that. I moved WNBA Draft to WNBA draft and removed an entry from the move list, in the process of moving Hammarby IF Hockey (1921–2008) to Hammarby Hockey (1921–2008) a new entry was added to the list which I had not spotted and I removed it as done. Realising that the entry I should have removed was still there I had a quick look and though that the added entry was the one I had moved first I had not spotted the year at the front. I will move now. Keith D (talk) 10:29, 11 July 2013 (UTC)
By the way there is a problem with the WNBA draft and 1997 WNBA draft articles in that the entry on WikiData to get the interwiki links on the pages will not allow the entry to be changed to lower case for some reason. Keith D (talk) 10:37, 11 July 2013 (UTC)

Nowiki tags look like <nowiki> </nowiki> they are used round text that contains wiki markup that is not to be displayed as such. Unfortunately the new visual editor puts them in the page randomly usually when you do a link or insert a space. Keith D (talk) 22:08, 12 July 2013 (UTC)

Hi Keith, Thanks for correcting that bit of wording, I think my brain went numb by then.   Hello. Regarding the recent revert you made to Fred Hoyle: you may already know about them, but you might find Wikipedia:Template messages/User talk namespace useful. Geostub below cats

When encountering geostub temps, found either above or below cats I have, by your example, been dropping the stubtemp two white spaces below the cats - which seems sensible as otherwise the stubtemp crowds the stuff above. There has been an edit here[40] which moves it above the cats. Can you point me to a guideline which advises a stubtemp drop below the cats so I can feel more confident in tackling this. Thanks. Hi, sorry for delay, main PC is having problems at the moment just trying another re-boot to see if it will go into usable mode! The positioning of stub templates is noted in WP:LAYOUT but I cannot put my finger on where the bit about double spacing them is. Keith D (talk) 14:39, 28 July 2013 (UTC)
Not what I was looking for but WP:IDEALSTUB mentions the double spacing. Keith D (talk) 16:06, 28 July 2013 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) Unfortunately Visual Editor has not been programmed to put stubs at the end, so in future you will increasingly often find them placed above the categories, multiple stubs on a single line, and certainly no blank lines above the stub tag(s). This is "progress". (Well, actually the official line is that WP:ORDER is just an English Wikipedia thing and so can't be catered for by VE which is more widely applicable.) Depressing. curtailing title of the haworth pottery ..article

The Haworth Pottery (1971-88) West Yorkshire

the village and its district had a number of (industrial) potteries, not only in the (19, and it seemed a matter of caution to offer a bit of distinguishing detail. there has been also at least one (short-lived) attempt to establish a pottery there recently. I see your sensible point but thinkit wise to risk being a pedant!! Can I add I found your stuff about categories very helpful. Lastly, am I no nearer to satisfying crit on citation detail. I have worked in lots of dating and detailing about citation publication. Your view, appreciated. Tous les deux DUO 54 (talk) 17:05, 29 July 2013 (UTC)

Hi, I guess that English is not your first language as the article does not read correctly in places. That aside you appear to have addressed the cite detail problems. You now need to relocate the citation after the end of the sentence that it supports. The numbers that now appear at the top of the reference section will then appear in the text at the appropriate points.
If the same reference is required at more than one point in the text it can be re-used by naming it as <ref name="Reference 1">Reference detail</ref> and then just using the name like <ref name="Reference 1" /> for further uses. Keith D (talk) 18:00, 29 July 2013 (UTC)

Fulbeck Hall

I have been concerned with the Fulbeck Hall section of Fulbeck for quite a while. The Hall itself deserves an article, being Grade II*, while its presence in Fulbeck over-weights that article. I can certainly develop a separate Hall article, but the problem is all the years'-old original research, that I suspect will never get referenced, that I do not want to add to any Hall article I write, as I reference absolutely everything - therefore most of the section stuff I cannot use. This will mean WP having a Fulbeck Hall main article with an unreffed 800 word section (which I suspect is completely factual) remaining on the Fulbeck page. Do you have any advice on how to proceed with a new Fulbeck Hall article in the light of the Fulbeck section. Thanks. Acabashi (talk) 17:24, 3 August 2013 (UTC)

In order to produce the new article you will have sources available which should hopefully be able to verify some of the existing material on the Fulbeck page. When the new page is created it should incorporate most of the existing section details that references can be found for. You can then trim back the existing to a short paragraph with a link to the new article. Keith D (talk) 18:16, 3 August 2013 (UTC)
Thanks for that - that was the logistics I was looking for. I will have to name the article Fulbeck Hall, Lincolnshire as Fulbeck Hall defaults to Fulbeck. I suppose that the name can be then moved to just Fulbeck Hall later. Cheers. Acabashi (talk) 18:22, 3 August 2013 (UTC)

The page references in The Tenant of Wildfell Hall

Hello. Excuse me for bothering you, but I can't make out where in the references to books in The Tenant of Wildfell Hall page references should be made. They are missing in the references to the introductions to these books, and introductions are individually authored chapter of the book. Please forgive me my stupidity and tell me to which book I should provide page references. Thanks. The Terrible Mutant Hamster (talk) 10:57, 4 August 2013 (UTC)

For example reference 1 is to a book with a title of "Introduction and Additional Notes for The Tenant of Wildfell Hall" which is presumably more than a single page. Thus I would expect that each usage of that reference in the article to be to different pages in that book. Giving the page number means that you do not have to read the whole book to verify the fact that the reference is supporting. Keith D (talk) 15:28, 4 August 2013 (UTC)
I've changed reference from Introduction as a book (it is wrong filling of the template, because Introduction is a part of the book) to Introduction as a chapter by a different author in a book. Is it right? Facts in the article are taken from introductions to different editions of the novel. As I know, there is no need for page references for individually authored chapters in books, especially when they are less that ten pages. The Terrible Mutant Hamster (talk) 01:46, 5 August 2013 (UTC)
Thanks for the tweaks to the references it is clearer now. I got the wrong idea of what was meant with the previous presentation so I have now removed the tag from article. Keith D (talk) 06:07, 5 August 2013 (UTC)

citations for the haworth pottery article

there was criticism (in "multiple issues") of lack of detailed sources and publisher minutiae in my citations. I have tried to address these with full source details. could you advise if they now meet criteria? thanks. Tous les deux DUO 54 (talk) 19:19, 5 August 2013 (UTC)

See my comment in last section you raised this above. Keith D (talk) 19:23, 5 August 2013 (UTC)

Yes, sorry about that! You had already advised - and I missed it. Will go to work, as you suggest. Just one other point: I was slightly unnerved by your - in the most kindly intent! - comment that English was clearly not my first language as the piece does not read correctly. I would want to put right any incorrect or obscure communication. Could I possibly get you to use your hard-pressed time to give specifics? I don't want to be a drag, but my life has been so tied up with language as a reporter (including The Yorkshire Post!!) for both the tabloids and the broadsheets; as an Eng Lit academic (including York and Leeds!); and later, as writer - of about ten books, that I naturally am concerned to get the message clear. None of this is intended as a put-down. It's just whether I should go and see a shrink! Help....!!! (By the way, I slip in the occasional Yorks paper and academies above only to convince you I must have been capable of getting down to brass tacks, sometime in the past, at least. I'm wondering now if past readers of New Musical Express thought they were reading Wittgenstein. If you can help... Tous les deux DUO 54 (talk) 20:18, 5 August 2013 (UTC)

Sorry for jumping to the wrong conclusion.
"an Arts & Crafts tradition differing in its hand-made techniques and type of clay from the industrial pottery produced locally in the (19, to be seen in Cliff Castle Museum, Keighley." is an example which I could not work out what you were trying to get at. The bit in brackets, though closing bracket missing, does not make any sense and the sentence seams unfinished. Keith D (talk) 20:55, 5 August 2013 (UTC)

syntax

Thanks for your patience - and apologies for all that defensive Cv stuff on my part. (That sort of thing only invites scepticism about its truth!) But I was in shock..! The only way to resolve the matter is by analysis. 1. There's no end-bracket missing. "(19"= "the nineteenth century" (historical abbreviation in common use". If you prefer me to write it out in full, then I will be pleased to comply. 2. A sentence is grammatically complete (i.e. finished) if it has at least one main clause. The sentence in question is complete in that grammatical sense. "Shaw produced...domestic stoneware" is the main clause. This is qualified by a phrase, "of a type..Leach". "an Arts.....Keighley" is also subordinate to the main clause, in apposition to it, if you like, and again qualifying it. The sentence is complete. In fact, it would be grammatically complete i.e. having a subject and a verb (and object, in this case), if it had nothing more than "Shaw produced domestic stoneware". The rest merely qualify. They simply tell us more about the action of the main clause. They have no separate existence. They are just hangers on . They suggest its difference from what you see at Cliff Castle. They do not lead us to think the sentence unfinished, because as phrase and present and past participles they do not take the action (of the main clause)further where it might need completing -it would take another main clause to do that. The idea is: she produced something different from her predecessors; you can see their work in the museum. Was this the main area of contention? I would like to move on to the sentence beginning "Pottery was exhibited.." I do not like the passive with a thing as a subject. It belongs with science lessons and writing up experiments- " a beaker was ..". The idiom conventionally used in the art world for listing exhibitions is "her exhibitions included.." or (more commonly) "she exhibited at..". I originally had the latter but "Pottery was exhibited.." was introduced in someone's edit. As an article in an encyclopedia uses the linguistic discourse of the subject, I think a revert might be justified.

As it it unclear much better to write it out in full, as "the 19th century" which fits our manual of style. Keith D (talk) 19:43, 6 August 2013 (UTC)
Will amend and give in full. Thank you for your helpful suggestion!

Withdrawing one's page

Could you sketch the procedure by which I could scrap The Haworth Pottery page? I would like to take my bat and ball home! Thanks. Tous les deux DUO 54 (talk) 10:00, 8 August 2013 (UTC)

This was also asked at Wikipedia:Help desk and I have answered it there. Arthur goes shopping (talk) 16:16, 8 August 2013 (UTC)

As you see, I'm still active until I get a decision on Vanishing from the bureaucrats. In the meantime, a couple of remarks. First, what is "single issue"? Secondly, could we not amend "wholesale and to other outlets" to "wholesale to other outlets"? The Pottery was a"retailer" (it sold to the public) but it also did "wholesale" ("to other outlets/retailers"),so you sell "wholesale to other outlets". The two are not alternatives; they define the same action. You do not sell wholesale AND to other outlets. Thirdly, could you explain removing the templates? Fourthly, just a vague moan - pointless, really since I acknowledge Wkpd's house style favours the simple (grammatically speaking) sentence. I notice that my single (grammatically) complex sentence - main clause with sub clause or qualifying phrases - has always been converted into two (simple) sentences, in the supposed interests of clarity. Grammatically, they are options. On the other hand, what you gain by simpler statements, you can lose by the tedium induced in the reader by a series of predictably similarly constructed sentences. There is a case for what I wrote, even though wikipedians think it somehow "poor English". I would compare the preferred wikipedian house-style to Route One (and no manager dare say that's a good idea!! Certainly, not at Hull City!) However, there's no need to argue with me on this. I accept you have to follow the house-style. Fifthly, the citation numbers have not been yet inserted into the text. Do I need to do this now (as it is a "single issue"?)? They need re-numbering anyway to fit the chronology of the text. I am grateful to you for your ever patient assistance.PS What happens to the article if I am allowed gratefully to "vanish"? The references will get renumbered automatically in the order they are used in the article once they have been placed in the text a the appropriate places. I have changed the tag to indicate the appropriate problem now rather than the resolved problem.
I have not modified the actual text this was done by IPs editing unanimously.
If you vanish the article will remain and others will modify it as they see fit. Keith D (talk) 20:16, 11 August 2013 (UTC)

Back to ask if you can also explain what it means, the template on the article talking of removing the multi template and proposing smething about the citations. I also did notice the "refining" of the title. I can see the economy (occam's razor, in philosophy) but there have been recently other so-called potteries trying to survive in the district. My original distinguished it, but I accept the change. Tous les deux DUO 54 (talk) 17:20, 11 August 2013 (UTC)

The multi-template is a wrapper for the maintenance templates at the top of articles. It is only used if there are more than one such template. As the other tags had been removed leaving the single tag, I remove the wrapper template. The rest of my edit summary was the refining of the location in the {{coord missing}} template that a BOT had added to the article. This template indicates that the article needs location co-ordinates so it can be plotted on Google Maps. Keith D (talk) 20:04, 11 August 2013 (UTC)

intended to "help" as exiting and vanishing by doing one last thing - the in-line citations but just as I thought I had them nicely sorted in the text and lined up in a new order of 1-4, I got the <ref> with no tag hard word. I've looked and looked at source but couldn't see the two faults there are supposed to be. I decidedto do all cites again but from the first simply ran into brick walls. So was stuck. Apologies for leaving it like this. Meant to help. For the record: 1 (grimsdell) is after "showrooms". 2 is (Skirrow) after "the nineteenth century". 3 is Thompson after "Heals and galleries". 4 is Bill Oliver after "Bradford Library Art Gallery". After all that, I feel I OUGHT to vanish!!! The numbers refer to the new ordering (as in text) of the citations. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tous les deux DUO 54 (talkcontribs) 18:01, 12 August 2013 (UTC)

I have fixed-up the problem for you. Keith D (talk) 18:16, 12 August 2013 (UTC)
a final thanks for fixing. now see what you can do for the sky blues. I started my reporting career at cov.
