Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for calculation the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. RonBot (talk) 17:22, 4 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Bit8

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Bit8, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Managing a conflict of interest

edit

  Hello, Maltalinks. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about in the page Bit8, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your COI when discussing affected articles (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Also please note that editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Edwardx (talk) 10:30, 5 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hi EdwardX, all, I do not have any COI with Bit8 or any company in the gaming industry in Malta. I used to work in the gaming industry for a long time in Malta, doing SEO and writing copy. I am not paid in any way as my interest now lies in covering companies that are working in artificial intelligence in the regions I am familiar with - which is mainly Malta and the UK -- Mark. Nomination of Bit8 for deletion

edit

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Bit8 is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Bit8 until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article. Edwardx (talk) 10:33, 5 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

Non-free rationale for File:Bit8-Company-Logo.png

edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Bit8-Company-Logo.png. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F6 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 17:26, 13 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free image File:Bit8-Company-Logo.png

edit

Thanks for uploading File:Bit8-Company-Logo.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 17:04, 23 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

File permission problem with File:Mark Mallia 2015.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading File:Mark Mallia 2015.jpg, which you've attributed to The author, Mark Mallia. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F11 of the criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. - FlightTime (open channel) 20:07, 25 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

Will be following the process to have the author's permission recorded properly. Have the email at hand. Maltalinks (talk) 11:15, 26 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

File:Mark_mallia_narcissus_broke_his_mirror.jpg

edit

You uploaded, File:Mark_mallia_narcissus_broke_his_mirror.jpg, where you either stated or implied that you had permission of a third party to upload it; or that evidence of such permission would be provided on request.

Wikipedia currently needs the permission to be explicit and proven at the time of upload.

Please read Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission, which advises on how to confirm the permission you obtained from a third party.

It is also advisable to ask the third-party what source attribution they desire, as opposed to marking the image as having been "sent personally". Proposed deletion of Conrad Borg Manché

edit

The article Conrad Borg Manché has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this biography of a living person will be deleted after seven days unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp/dated}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within seven days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. —C.Fred (talk) 14:27, 14 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hi User:FlightTime - there is proper permission for this file. The author Mark Mallia had sent the permission email a long time ago (on 30 June 2018), it should be logged within OTRS, I think the ticket number was 2018062610006679. Don't have access to OTRS so cannot check this myself. Let me know if you need me to forward a copy once again. The email had covered his photo and that of his painting, Narcissus. Kindly remove the deletion tag as this is in error. Thanks.Maltalinks (talk) 06:33, 30 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

You were correct, the ticket number is VRTS ticket # 2018062610006679. There was an issue with an insufficient first mailing, but that seems to have been resolved. I have removed the deletion request and tagged both Files as permissions received. Thank you for your contributions. Cheers, - FlightTime (open channel) 12:40, 30 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
P.S. You should of not reverted this edit an OTRS agent (me) would of fix it after the issue was resolved. Displaying an image with permission issues is a big no, no. Thanks, - FlightTime (open channel) 12:46, 30 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

Thanks User talk:FlightTime no problem, as you said better to ensure that there is proper permission for everything. Cheers! Maltalinks (talk) 17:12, 31 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

A page you started (Angelo Dalli) has been reviewed!

edit

Thanks for creating Angelo Dalli.

I have just reviewed the page, as a part of our page curation process and note that:

Of the 50+ sources currently attached to the article, maybe 5 are actually useful, in that they are independent, reliable, and contain significant coverage of the subject. Please consider removing the various citations to database entries, to articles written by Dalli, and to interviews with him that do not contain information not already provided by other, more reliable sources.

To reply, leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|Rosguill}}. And, don't forget to sign your reply with ~~~~ .

@Rosguill:Thanks for your assessment. I have erred on the side of caution when it came to references - will clean it up a bit as I may have overdone it a bit. Please appreciate that it is difficult to find good sources for people from Malta, which is the editorial area I am focusing on, so I thought that it would be better to have more rather than less references. I am going to leave interviews conducted by third parties unless there is some major objection to this -- Mark.Maltalinks (talk) 15:11, 29 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for following up on this. I can understand your reasoning behind providing so many citations, but you should still avoid ever having more than one citation per claim (unless it's a particularly controversial claim or a claim of the form "multiple sources say X"). As for interviews, if there's information that is reported nowhere else then I guess you can keep them, but bear in mind that they are generally not considered to be independent as a rule because they rely primarily on the subject's input (although there are often interview articles that start with a biography of the subject, and only then begin the interview: in these cases, the biography part is likely independent, although it is a subjective judgment that varies from case to case). signed, Rosguill talk 18:39, 29 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
Finally found the time to update this article and fix the issue, deleted redundant references, and shortened it a bit. Maltalinks (talk) 16:25, 22 August 2020 (UTC)Reply
