Why make this edit?
doesn't seem a good one Johnbod (talk) 13:54, 8 August 2012 (UTC)
- I understand the revert in this case. The name of the discoverer, although unsourced in the original, was changed. In addition, some of that looked like original research. That said, it looks like they tried to source it. This Change of named discover of elephant<refWenban-Smith, F.F., P. Allen, M.R. Bates, S.A. Parfitt, R.C. Preece, J.R. Stewart, C. Turner and J.E. Whittaker. 2006. The Clactonian elephant butchery site at Southfleet Road, Ebbsfleet, UK. Journal of ></ref>) was their edit summary. In addition, they shouldn't have received {{Uw-vandalism1}}, instead they should have received {{Uw-unsourced1}} which invites them to re-add the material. Ryan Vesey 14:09, 8 August 2012 (UTC)
- The main reason the vandalism tag was put on was because it was a script, which automatically adds it after the revert, and I forgot to go back and change it. Mdann52 (talk) 14:19, 8 August 2012 (UTC)
- Does igloo not allow you to choose a tag? If not, I suggest you use twinkle or huggle. Ryan Vesey 14:28, 8 August 2012 (UTC)
- They didn't "try" to reference it, they did reference it very thoroughly, with two academic articles and a link to a university website (not the best page, but still). How does that "look like original research"???? This is exactly the sort of edit that puts off new adult users and damages the project. You should both know better. Johnbod (talk) 18:22, 8 August 2012 (UTC)
- I was offering an explanation of why I believed the revert might have been made. With the new diff view I didn't notice the references they put in. Sans the references, adding "suggesting it was butchered for its meat by early humans of that era" after "The skeleton was surrounded by flint tools" would be OR. Ryan Vesey 18:28, 8 August 2012 (UTC)
- Yes, but the references were clearly there, until Mdann52 removed them of course! Johnbod (talk) 03:15, 9 August 2012 (UTC)

Believeniks! declination
Hi, you declined my proposed entry on the book Believeniks! on the basis of its lack of notability and because of its lack of independent references.
Believeniks! is a novel co-written by Jonathan Lethem, who is widely considered to be one of the most significant novelists, short story writers, and essayists working in the United States. The amount of independent coverage available online and elsewhere that demonstrates the extent to which this is a general opinion is, in a word, exhaustive. He is the recipient of the National Book Critics Circle Award and a MacArthur Fellowship, as well as numerous other honors. Currently he holds the endowed chair at Pomona College previously occupied by David Foster Wallace. Believeniks! is the only one of Lethem's novels not accorded its own Wikipedia entry. Moreover, Lethem's co-author, Christopher Sorrentino, is a well-respected novelist and short story writer and a finalist for the National Book Award. While his reputation is not quite that of Lethem's, once again there is considerable independent information available that confirms his national reputation as a writer.
As to the independence of the sources cited, I'm a little baffled. The entry cites New York Magazine, an independent magazine; the New York Observer, an independent newspaper; and GalleyCat, an independent website published by MediaBistro. None of these sources is connected in any way with the authors or publishers of this book.
I would surely like to know what can possibly be done to heighten the notability of something that is inherently notable -- i.e., an addition to the canon of work by an author increasingly considered canonical -- and to enhance the independence of sources that are demonstrably independent of the subject of the article.
Thank you. 69.119.59.55 (talk) 17:18, 8 August 2012 (UTC)
- I feel the sources in it are not enough to have referenced everything. By all means resubmit it if you think it is ok. Mdann52 (talk) 17:31, 8 August 2012 (UTC)

After a warning from User:Worm That Turned, Arcandam refused to (or couldn't) disengage and he was given a 48 Hour block for "disruptive editing, personal attacks and refusing to disengage after being expressly warned to". I am saying my thanks here as it has been quite a while and the talk has been archived already. I did not know what to do in that case and thought it wouldn't do much harm to come and post here. You could advise if this was the wrong choice to make and how I should go about it should that happen again. Sometimes I am here sporadically so comments on my talk page have all been archived. Thank You for your help
Thank you for your review. I am a new contributor. I used the West Palm Beach Public Library article as a guideline in addition to reading many of the Wikipedia guidelines. Guess I didn't understand it enough. I will improve. If I take out the stats on the programming and references to the services offered would the article be more compliant? The services offered are factual but I can see how the successful numbers are puffery. I'd appreciate any other suggestions. Many thanks! Boca Raton PL (talk) 11:21, 21 August 2012 (UTC)
ECNS
I'm new to this, so go easy on me......as I took over for prior submissions. This Wiki entry is NOT promotional..........the sanctuary has no income, sales, or other reason to be promotional in any way-it is not for profit. The sanctuary could devleop a web site to eliminate concerns that the sanctuary is using Wikipedia as a web host, but that would be for promotional purposes, for which there are none. The parcel is used by a local state university for research projects pertaining to natural resources, and also by organizations such as Ducks Unlimited (as cited). The sancutary is generally regarded as an important contributor to the natural diversity of the fauna and flora by the community, as the sancutary has no bounds by a fence or other means of containment. ECNS is a 'venue'..........no different than any other venue cited in Wikipedia. We are open to suggestions to improve the site to protect it from deletion as those who study there find the information of useful value. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Elucius (talk • contribs) 15:51, 21 August 2012 (UTC)

I think you jumped in a bit quick there - what I was doing wasn't vandalism, but splitting the page into two, as you should be able to see if you look at my contributions. In fact, I think you need to slow down in general - in the last 30 minutes you've made 75 reverts using STiki, which amounts to 24 seconds per revert! I haven't looked at all of them, and I'm sure they're good reverts, but 24 seconds is barely long enough to read the diff and press the button, never mind do some proper research (like checking the page history, looking through the contributions of the editor you're reverting, reading the talk page, etc.). It's great that you're doing vandalism patrol, but sometimes tools like STiki make it too easy to do things quickly, instead of doing them right. Edit 'war' at goal difference
I have already explained several times why I delete the irrelevant passages from this article, however Dr Vicodine never gives any reason why his additions might be relevant. In brief, he gives lengthy accounts of championships in Yugoslavia which were decided on goal AVERAGE, while the article is entitled goal DIFFERENCE. There is no evidence that he even includes all examples of championships decided on goal average. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gusssss (talk • contribs) 15:46, 25 August 2012 (UTC)

I have tried discussing it. There is never any answer. In the end, he obviously thinks he is right, and I think I am. I believe I have the more compelling reasons for thinking this and until Dr Vicodine produces some rational justification I will continue to adjust the article. I would actually welcome independent opinion on this, the sooner the better as I am getting tired of it. Furthermore, Dr Vicodine seems to have a string of edit wars to his name.

Groopt
Hi Mdann52 --
Thanks for having a look at the article candidate. May I please request some specific advice on the page that you rejected?
Update ( jheuristic (talk) 23:54, 28 August 2012 (UTC) ):
The comments concerning 'peacock words' are unusual. There are no peacock words. The Groopt article for creation is encyclopedic, well-cited and exceeds all WP:NPOV criteria.
Some substantial edits were made. A authoritative citation from Harvard Law (Edudemic) was added.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_creation/Groopt
Background:
This entry adheres rigorously to WP standards. I took WP advice and used other authoritative, bona fide, approved and published WP articles as a robust model and editing template. I cited a range of independent, reliable, published sources. It exceeds with confidence Wikipedia's verifiability policy and the notability of the subject. It is encyclopedic and verifiable.
Some thoughtful examples of approved and published articles used as a specific, published model that exceed WP standards are below. Could you please look over these well-established, approved, confident and published WP pages? BTW, do they have peacock words?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xobni
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Groove_Networks
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jive_Software
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socialtext
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yammer
There are hundreds and thousands of other examples for you. This entry matches them precisely. It is a standard, encyclopedic entry. IT is in this reliable format, tone and specific standard. The are not advertisements.
Could you please reconsider your rejection? The Groopt article candidate certainly meets and confidently exceeds all WP standards. If you have editing advice required to meet WP standards, it is welcome and encouraged.
Specifics:
There are major WP:NPOV issues with this, therefore I am declining it again.
I am striving to meet WP standards and achieve parity with the examples I furnished and hundreds/thousands of others. If there are "major WP:NPOV issues" then it will be easy to identify just one. I already made some substantial changes. Thanks in advance for you attention. Please move/create the article into the Wiki Space.
Please use reviewers comments in future.
I don't know what that is. Please advise. At your service. Thanks again Mdann52.

New Zealand Parole Board
Hi, you posted a message about the deletion of this page. The page was deleted before I even had time to see what the alleged copyright violation was. How do I find the page so I can correct whatever the problem is?
Also could you please respond to discussion on the NZPB Talk page. ThanksOffender9000 (talk) 18:29, 31 August 2012 (UTC)
- Since the page has been deleted, you can't edit it any longer. The copyright issue was because it appeared to be cut-and-pasted off a website, which is not allowed on here. You can contact the deleting admin to request it to be emailed or put into your userspace, but as it is a copyright violation, it is unlikely to be recreated. Sorry for any inconvenience, but we need to enforce this rule. Thanks, Mdann52 (talk) 18:55, 31 August 2012 (UTC)
It is not a copyright violation. The information about the history of the Parole Board was taken from the official website of the New Zealand Parole Board. However, there is no breach of copyright as the the Board has a disclaimer which states: "Material featured on this site is subject to copyright protection unless otherwise indicated. The copyright protected material may be reproduced free of charge in any format or media without requiring specific permission. This is subject to the material being reproduced accurately and not being used in a misleading context." Could you please revert the page to its original state. ThanksOffender9000 (talk) 00:32, 1 September 2012 (UTC)
- Personally, I didn't delete it. However, I believe it was still a copyvio, as you did not state the source location. However, you can contact any admin and request they restore it. Mdann52 (talk) 06:19, 1 September 2012 (UTC)
- "Material featured on this site is subject to copyright protection unless otherwise indicated" and thus not useful for Wikipedia or better explain what is reproduced accurately and in a misleading context? This kind of license is flawed and totally not controllable: Does a change by any user change the context of the copied material? Is that than a copyright violation (in sense of that license)? Is the context then in a misleading context? mabdul 08:42, 1 September 2012 (UTC)
- I've restored the article. The copyvio only seemed to apply to one small segment (which I've now removed). Mabdul is right about the licence on the site; it's not compatible with CC-BY-SA and so we can't use their text here. However, there's a whole lot of article there that isn't (so far as I can tell) lifted from elsewhere, and so the correct course of action is to excise and/or rewrite the copied sections, rather than nuke the whole thing. I apologise; I should have done this originally rather than deleting the page. Yunshui 雲水 22:39, 2 September 2012 (UTC)

RE: Redirect
You should have checked what you were reverting. There is already a page for "Girl on Fire" by Alicia Keys at Girl on Fire (Alicia Keys song), whilst there is already a song by Rob Zombie also called "Girl on Fire". Hence the disambiguation page is required and its perfectly feasible that someone might type Girl on Fire (song) looking for the Rob Zombie recording, hence I redirected it to the DAB page. — Lil_℧niquℇ №1 [talk] 17:37, 7 September 2012 (UTC)
- Ok, sorry about that - I was going by the convention I had heard of that you shouldn't redirect to DABS...... Mdann52 (talk) 17:39, 7 September 2012 (UTC)
- Normally you wouldn't. But where there are 4 topics called Girl on Fire: a rob zombie song, an alicia keys song, an alicia keys album and a reference to the hungergames there's no benefit to making Girl on Fire (song) a dab page for two songs. — Lil_℧niquℇ №1 [talk] 17:41, 7 September 2012 (UTC)

Hello, I understand the reasoning behind the rejection, but here's the situation. Mikel Weisser is a candidate for Congress in Arizona's 4th Congressional District, and he asked me to creat a Wikipedia page for him about his biography. He supplied me with the content to include on the page, and he took it from the content of his own personal blog. How can I get to use that information on a Wikipedia page for him, as he requested?
Time is essential on this as election day is November 6th. I appreciate your consideration of that. Thank You!

Gail Russell
Gail had aged very badly during her 5 year break from filming, due to her alcoholism. Audiences were quite shocked by how bad she looked in "Seven Men from Now", as she was barely 31 when it was filmed. I think this should be mentioned in the article, because losing her looks so early was a major reason why she was unable to restart her career (together with her inability to stop drinking). Corey Large Entry
Hi
I'm confused as to how to source beyond the references I have included on this entry (its my first effort).
I was commissioned via the Subject's PR rep in Canada to put the materials together and then asked to post it. The material source is in fact the Subject himself, Corey Large. Additional sources are noted but mostly ImDB which I would think is a legitimate source.
For example, his birthdate. There's no published records so how do you source it?
His basic bio was pulled together from his existing sites which are referenced in the article and from an interview with him to add some colour.
How do I work around and through this issue.
Appreciate the help. This is something I might do more of for clients moving forward so I am anxious to learn. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ianjohnharvey (talk • contribs) 19:18, 10 September 2012 (UTC)
- ImBD is not considered reliable - like Wikipedia, it is user generated, therefore considered unreliable. Please also see WP:PSCOI, as I believe you have a major conflict of interests. Mdann52 (talk) 20:43, 10 September 2012 (UTC)
Not a COI if transparent
Thanks for your comments.
My notes:
1) Wiki guidelines suggest COI is mitigated if transparent.
2) The Content is factual and does not "sell" it is positioned as a biography and of interest. Many people work in relative obscurity in the movie industry.
3) Regarding ImDB. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citing_IMDb
This page in a nutshell: Anecdotes, trivia, and unreleased film information from IMDb do not meet the reliable sources guideline. The IMDb should only be used as a tertiary source for "hard data" on released films.
IMDb was cited as a Hard Data Source for completed projects
Are you suggesting then that for each movie I find a link to the movie's website as well as IMDb and or a review or other publication? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ianjohnharvey (talk • contribs) 21:14, 10 September 2012 (UTC)

Please let me know where and how I violated copyright.
Also, my most recent draft seems to have been deleted - any way you can restore it? The August 23 version is definitely way too old. I have made many changes since.

sorry, one more point
Self-published and questionable sources as sources on themselves Shortcut: WP:SELFSOURCE Self-published or questionable sources may be used as sources of information about themselves, especially in articles about themselves, without the requirement that they be published experts in the field, so long as:
the material is neither unduly self-serving nor an exceptional claim; it does not involve claims about third parties (such as people, organizations, or other entities); it does not involve claims about events not directly related to the subject; there is no reasonable doubt as to its authenticity; the article is not based primarily on such sources. These requirements also apply to pages from social networking sites such as Twitter, Tumblr, and Facebook.
With great respect I believe the subject as a source meets the guidelines here (the ongoing discussion around IMDb aside of course) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ianjohnharvey (talk • contribs) 21:23, 10 September 2012 (UTC)

Question - My Man Is A Loser Rejected For Copyrighted Material
hi - you recently reclined or article submission for the upcoming movie My Man Is A Loser. You indicated it was rejected for using copyrighted material? We can't figure out how to see what part of our article uses copyrighted material as we believe we were only sighting articles, interviews, etc.?
Which part(s) of our article is utilizing copyrighted material and how do you recommend we change it so you feel it complies with Wikipedia's requirements?
Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dockkcod (talk • contribs) 13:11, 14 September 2012 (UTC)
Hallo, You moved this from AfC to article namespace, and added the "(artist)". Perhaps it would have been useful to go into this a bit more: any article with a disambiguation ought to have a dab page entry or be linked from a hatnote at the base name, so when I came to stub-sort it, I looked into this. There was no article at Martin John Callanan, but the title had been "salted" after two AfDs, although in 2008 and 2009. I proposed the article for speedy deletion under "G4. Recreation of a page that was deleted per a deletion discussion." The declining admin tells me that the new page is not substantially the same as the deleted content, so I have now made a "Requested move" to get the article back to the base title, ie get it un"salted".
If an article needs a disambiguator when you move it to name space, please make sure there's a link to it, and follow up whatever needs to be done. Thanks. PamD 06:57, 17 September 2012 (UTC)

- Just wanted to leave a message on your talk page regarding this Mdann52, as the warning is still in the system. As you're probably aware, nothing in the edit indicated vandalism. He had an edit summary, fixed grammar, and corrected internal links. All I can suggest is taking things slowly while browsing through recent edits - it's not a race. Additionally, the best course of action if you make an incorrect revert/warning is to undo the revert and to strikeout the warning on their talk page with a follow up message with an apology/explanation of what occurred. Otherwise huggle and other such programs will identify there as having been a warning but there will be no documentation. Additionally, it's inappropriate to ask a user to remove a warning from their own talk page - I'm sure you understand the reasons why. Regards, --Slazenger (Contact Me) 20:04, 20 September 2012 (UTC)
Prod for The Call (religion)
Hi Mdann52, I've removed the prod template you placed at The Call (religion), because I don't think the content is purely promotional, and is decently sourced. If you think otherwise a better tag would be a 'pressrelease' or 'npov' template, but I don't think the article will find consensus in its current state for deletion. Although at this moment an apparent WP:COI account is attempting to revert it to a promotional piece, so keep watching. Best, 76.248.149.47 (talk) 17:25, 20 September 2012 (UTC)

Im confused as to why my article was blanked by you. Each time I've gotten a message saying to add sources, I have added sources. The WBC and bangkok post aren't good enough? Can you be specific with what's needed and maybe I can fix it?

CVUA
Hi Mdann52. I'm leaving you this message because you have previously been involved with Counter-Vandalism, and may still be. The Academy project has been restructured, placing responsibility for it on the trainers themselves and as part of the process I am trying to find out who is still interested in remaining as active trainers.
In future, there will be no clerking or coordination, so If you are still active and can respond to requests from students within around 48 hours, you need do nothing until a new student contacts you on your talk page. Nevertheless, if your status changes, please update your entry on the table of active trainers at the new WP:CVUA page. If you no longer have sufficient time to commit to the CV training project, that's fine, but please remove your name from the active list. While on your travels however, should you come across users who are having a hard time with their reverts, don't hesitate to send them a link to the CVUA. Thanks, and happy editing! Speedy deletion contested: Swag Flo Music Group
Hello Mdann52. I am just letting you know that I contested the speedy deletion of Swag Flo Music Group, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: Please wait at least 15 minutes before tagging for A1. Although the article currently does not have enough content to identiify the subject of the article, you tagged it one minute after it was created.
