New features
- You can now use the "Autonym" font of the Universal Language Selector (ULS) to display the name of languages (for example in navigation templates) in their correct script. To do this, add the CSS class
"autonym"
to the elements that include language names. Note that this font only works for the name of languages, not for any other text. [1]
Problems
- There was a problem with Parsoid (the program used by VisualEditor to convert wikitext to annotated HTML) on November 4, between 19:40 and 20:40 (UTC). Encoding issues caused non-ASCII characters (including those with diacritics, like "é") to be broken when converted to wikitext and saved to the page. [2]
Future
- The Beta Features tool is now available on Commons and Meta-Wiki. With it, you can test new features before they're added for everyone. The plan is to add this tool to all wikis on November 21. [3]
- MediaWiki 1.23wmf3 was added to test wikis on November 7. It will arrive to non-Wikipedia wikis on November 12 and all Wikipedia wikis on November 14 (calendar). [4]
- The MassMessage tool will be added to all wikis on November 14. It will make it simpler to send messages across wikis. [5]
- The button of the Search page will soon be changed to be blue and bigger (see the difference). [6]
- You will soon be able to add a page name as parameter for
{{REVISIONID}}
,{{REVISIONUSER}}
and{{REVISIONTIMESTAMP}}
and similar functions, by writing for example{{REVISIONID:Apple}}
. [7] - In the future, when you hide a CentralNotice banner on a wiki, it will also be hidden on other Wikimedia sites. [8]

Ben Watt in Feb 2010
User:Mdann52 Hi there. I changed the licence on Flickr as well, but couldn't work out which one corresponded with what licence I had been asked to change it to here. Flickr gives me to following options:
1. Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike Creative Commons 2. Attribution-NonCommercial Creative Commons 3. Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs Creative Commons 4. Attribution Creative Commons 5. Attribution-ShareAlike Creative Commons 6. Attribution-NoDerivs Creative Commons
Which one should I select?
Thanks,

- @Edwardmbishop: Number 5 is {{cc-by-sa}}, which is probable the best one to use. --Mdann52talk to me! 13:52, 7 November 2013 (UTC)

Oblivion (roller coaster) Good Article Review
Hi Mdann52, Firstly I'd like to apologize for taking longer than 7 days to come back after placing it on hold. However, you have made the fixes I felt were needed as well as many raised by others. While some weren't addressed, I felt these weren't appropriate to prevent GA (if it were an FA nomination, then they may have been) and I'm happy to tell you that I have granted the article Good Article status.
All the best and I hope to see the article up for FA in the not to distant future.

Your recent edit to Yahoo! Mail
You recently did this edit with a summary including the word "vandalism". It was a partial revert of this earlier edit. The earlier edit, although not explained, appears to me to be an attempt to follow MOS guidance, specifically Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Trademarks. The category changes are incorrect, unless the cats are renamed, but it wasn't mere vandalism. DES (talk) 15:56, 20 November 2013 (UTC)

Declined article question
Hi,
Briefly, I have two questions I hope you could help with: 1. Why was my article declined? 2. What should I change before I try to resubmit it?
In more detail, 1. you declined my Article for creation https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Articles_for_creation/Omegawave and I didn't find a reason for it being declined. Could you please provide a reason. Note - I've now added a Talk section to the bottom of the article that may clarify some things (I'm struggling to understand the Talk function even watching the help video on https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SummarizeDiscussion). The text was present but hidden my the previous submission.
2. I'm a Wikipedia newbie, so I probably made more than one mistake trying to submit my article. One mistake was that I tried to submit it under Wikipedia namespace, as noted by Dodger67.
- Drafts are supposed to be in the "Wikipedia Talk" namespace. The copy in the "Wikipedia" namespace will be deleted soon. Please continue working on the copy at Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Omegawave. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 19:07, 23 November 2013 (UTC)
Excirial actually declined that submission because it was a duplicate, rather than because it was in the wrong namespace.
However, I don't know if there was anything wrong with the actual article or in the way I submitted it in the Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/ namespace. Could you please let me know what, if anything, needs to be changed or corrected.
Thanks for your time and help,
Peter Peter Cura (talk) 09:43, 25 November 2013 (UTC)
- @Peter Cura: I have accepted the article; I declined the wrong version. The reason the other one was deleted was because it was a duplicate. The new article is at Omegawave. --Mdann52talk to me! 11:09, 25 November 2013 (UTC)

I've put the GAN on hold. There is a fair amount of work to be done on the article. This is a fairly major BLP, attracting nearly 50,000 readers a month, so I do think it's important that the article is improved, and well done for making that attempt. I'll keep the review open as long as I see positive progress being made, though I suspect that it may take some time unless there are others willing to help out, so it may be best to close the GAN, and nominate the article again later when it has been brought to GA standards. I'll check back in seven days to see what's happening. SilkTork' ✔Tea time 14:55, 3 December 2013 (UTC)

Manual of Style Closure
Hi! As you closed the RfC at the Manual of Style, it might be best if you made any changes determined to the text itself. - With your last switch of reasoning, I fear you've made Identity a majority rules popularity contest, instead of weighting it toward respecting the people being named, an opinion found in the discussion, aposition held by people worried identity decisions would be decided by majority votes. "Most common in sources" will not lead to choosing better expert sources over the general gut feelings of editors in any naming disputes to come. I was also surprised you could switch a found consensus to its opposite. __ E L A Q U E A T E 20:48, 5 December 2013 (UTC)

This newsletter is now posted using MediaWiki message delivery.
New features
- The CommonsMetadata feature was added to all wikis. It creates metadata information about multimedia files (like their license) that can be read automatically by computer programs. It not only works for Commons, but for all wikis, and you can use it for files on your wiki by editing templates used to describe metadata. [20]
- JavaScript code used on Wikimedia sites is now saved locally on your computer to load faster. [21]
- You can now paste formatted content copied from external sources (not just as plain text) into VisualEditor; this includes copy/pasting from other VisualEditor windows. [22]
- You can now open VisualEditor by adding
?veaction=edit
to the page URL, regardless of your user preferences. [23] - Many bugs have been fixed, and VisualEditor should also look faster, for example when you save a page. [24]
Problems
- Due to issues, the new search tool ("CirrusSearch") was recently removed from wikis where it was enabled, then added again. [25]
Future
- MediaWiki 1.23wmf6 was added to test wikis on December 5. It will arrive to non-Wikipedia wikis on December 10 and all Wikipedia wikis on December 12 (calendar).
- The old Etherpad tool (replaced by a new version) will be removed on December 30, 2013. You can still save old pads before that date using the old address: https://etherpad-old.wikimedia.org. [26]

New features
- You can now see a legend on Special:RecentChanges and Special:Watchlist that explains the symbols used. [27]
- If your wiki is testing the new search tool ("CirrusSearch"), you can now test it by adding "New search" in your Beta features preferences. [28]
- The toolbar is now simpler; all text styles (bold, italics, underline, subscript, etc.) are in the same menu, and the "More" menu is called "Insert". [29]
- You can now use a basic tool to add special characters to your text. You can add more characters (useful in your language) by editing the MediaWiki interface on translatewiki.net.
- The tool to add and edit mathematical text is now called "formula". [30]
Problems
- There was a problem with the "Create a book" tool (Collection); books could only be exported to PDF format. The change has been undone. [31]
- The log-in system for external tools ("OAuth") was broken on wikis that tested the new search tool. It was fixed last week. [32] [33]
- Because of a bug, this newsletter is delivered to users using the new MediaWiki message delivery, and to community pages using the old EdwardsBot. [34]
Future
- MediaWiki 1.23wmf7 was added to test wikis on December 12. It will be added to non-Wikipedia wikis on December 17 and all Wikipedia wikis on December 19 (calendar).
- You will soon be able to select the language of SVG images that have translations using a drop-down menu on the image page. (see example) [35]
- GLAMToolset, a tool to help GLAM groups (like museums) upload many pictures to Commons, will be added to Commons on December 17. [36]
- A Draft namespace will be added to the English Wikipedia to make it easier to create new pages. You will be able to use VisualEditor for drafts if you have enabled it. [37] [38]
Other
- You can read the summary of the technical report for November 2013 to learn more about VisualEditor, Mobile and other features. [39]

Suggestions for Granger Westberg AfC
Hi Mdann52 -
I dislike it when people give me grief about my AfC reviews, so I promise to be brief. I was just wondering if you had any suggestions for the submitter of the Granger Westberg AfC. When I found the article a few days ago, the references were a little scarce, but I feel like that's a lot better now. While not a nurse, Westberg created a significant nursing specialty and was fairly broadly covered because of that. Is there anything you would suggest to make this a successful article? Thanks! - @EricEnfermero: rereviewing the article, it looks ok. It turned out I looked at the wrong history page, so I didn't see the changes.... I have reverted, so feel free to accept if you feel like it. --Mdann52talk to me! 16:45, 18 December 2013 (UTC)
- I appreciate your quick response. I ended up contributing to the article, so I'm not sure if I'll accept it, but I appreciate your revert. Cheers! EricEnfermero HOWDY! 21:14, 18 December 2013 (UTC)
- I will go back to it tomorrow - ATM, I am on a mobile device, so can't really use the script reliability. --Mdann52talk to me! 21:20, 18 December 2013 (UTC)

Food Structure Journal
Since it ceased to exist at the end of 1993, few links to it are available. Two have been added to its published form and a few former (surviving) authors have been asked to help. Effort will continue after Christmas in order to remove its "orphan" label. - Mentioning of the "Studies of Food Microstructure" would have shown that the journal was based on a previous experience with publishing papers of that kind. "Scanning Microscopy International" had published very many books on all kinds of electron microscopy but there are almost no links to it either, since it also ceased to exist. In 2013, the interest in food structure has been revived and a new "Food Structure" journal has been established by Elsevier. The dates 1982-1993 had initially been added to distinguish the earlier journal from the recent publication. In spite of severe Wikipedia editing, younger food microscopists are getting access to important information in this new Wikipedia article. Thank you. MKalab (talk) 18:11, 19 December 2013 (UTC)
Chester, New Hampshire
Hello! I wanted to check with you about your reason for reverting Tom Alciere's edits to the Chester, New Hampshire article. Is it because it's poorly written, or do you think it was cut and pasted directly from the source, or did you have some other reason? If it's just that it's poorly written, I could take a stab at fixing it up, but if it's because of misappropriation, he should probably be told. He's been editing New Hampshire towns alphabetically with an 1875 source and has gotten up to towns starting with "C", so will probably be doing a lot more edits. I'd be happy to send him a message. --Ken Gallager (talk) 14:25, 19 December 2013 (UTC)
- @Ken Gallager: bit of both... I misread the year as being 1975... Feel free to reinstate and cleanup as needed; I did feel it was a bit too linebreaky :) --Mdann52talk to me! 18:21, 19 December 2013 (UTC)
German
Congratulations on your increased German proficiency, as indicated by a recent change to your user page's babel status. I don't speak German but I do appreciate people who take the time and effort to learn additional languages. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 17:09, 21 December 2013 (UTC)
