General references

Plase don't remove the "General references" as you did with J. T. Wise. I know it is redundant since the links appear in the "External links" section, but I have ran into trouble with those "not being general references" at Template:Did you know and WP:GA. --Brian Halvorsen (talk) 23:03, 15 September 2010 (UTC)

I'll keep that in mind in the future. I did remove it because it's completely redundant. That's a minor issue to take up with the DYK folks, I suppose. --Muboshgu (talk) 23:21, 15 September 2010 (UTC)

Collapsed references

You didn't explain in your edit the reason why you collapsed the references. I had spaced them that way to make the wikitext legible, so that editors don't have to wade through a morass of ref info, and can instead skip past the ref tags, which are more easily found with that spacing. I've restored the spacing, but kept your changes (with some modifications, though I'll touch those up too at some point). Mindmatrix 00:49, 16 September 2010 (UTC)

I usually remove excess spaces and collapse references when I see them inserted like that because it adds excess data to the article. I won't begrudge that, but you undid too much. The detail about his callup and debut don't need to be in the lede (but should be in a consistent date format). Doug Drabek should really be in a personal info section, but I won't harp on that as there is no other personal info. However, the minor league baseball category is now inappropriate as he's made his major league debut, and so I'm replacing it with the Blue Jays category. --Muboshgu (talk) 01:00, 16 September 2010 (UTC)
First, my apologies for bombing away parts of your edit - I was trying to avoid that, but goofed anyway (esp. the bits about the category and infobox). Regarding your points - the only reason I merged the bit about his dad to the lede was because there was nothing else in that section (as you surmised), and I did shift the callup info out of the lede in a subsequent edit.
Regarding the ref formatting, is there a standard for this? I typically format them this way because I don't use the standard editing toolbox (or any of the additional ref formatting tools), so the wikitext appears as a jumble to me when there are so many refs. I don't really care how the refs are formatted, so long as I have some way of suppressing or avoiding all that text when I'm editing. Mindmatrix 13:13, 16 September 2010 (UTC)

2010 ALCS

The Yankees are not yet the champions of the 2010 ALCS.

All the quotes, by the way, said nothing of the Yankees winning the ALCS. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Redsox1014 (talkcontribs) 17:36, 23 October 2010 (UTC)

The quote section is taken directly from video clips on mlb.com. You can go check to hear the quotes are exact. Please stop removing them —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.77.5.5 (talk) 17:31, 23 October 2010 (UTC)

AfD of Major League Baseball team captains

Hello, you recently !voted to delete Major League Baseball team captains at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Major League Baseball team captains. Another editor has substantially edited the article and added references, and I have withdrawn my nomination and endorsed a move to Captain (baseball). I would like you to take another look and re-evaluate your !vote in light of the recent changes. Thanks! —KuyaBriBriTalk 15:13, 18 September 2010 (UTC)

I left you a response on my talk page. There was a time when I knew the template that did this message for me, but I forgot a lot in the past three months. Sorry for the inefficiency. Sven Manguard (talk) 17:04, 20 September 2010 (UTC)

A.J. Hinch

Hi, I don't understand your desire to gloss over A.J. Hinch's managerial career. The hiring of A.J. Hinch was roundly ridiculed by media and fans. He will always be remembered for being hired with no experience due to his understanding of “organization advocacy”. I do not understand why you would choose to try to wipe that from his Wikipedia history as it will forever define A.J. Hinch. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 63.226.32.16 (talk) 21:28, 27 September 2010 (UTC)

The issue here is that it's a controversial edit and it needs sourcing. If you can find appropriate sources, it can stay. --Muboshgu (talk) 21:30, 27 September 2010 (UTC)

Moneymonth9302010

Is a SPI necessary to block this most recent obvious sock of User:Don't Feed the Zords, or can it just go straight to AIV? I ask because I've never opened an SPI before, thought you may be able shed some light. Tampabay721 (talk) 21:55, 30 September 2010 (UTC)

I haven't either. How sure are you that it's a sock? I haven't seen any of this "Zords" edits before. You could certainly take it to AIV as a vandalism-only account at the least. If you want to tie it to that other account, you may need the SPI. --Muboshgu (talk) 21:59, 30 September 2010 (UTC)
TBDR92810 had an investigation opened up two days ago for the same edits/redirects, but as you'll see when you click Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/TBDR92810, the investigation was redirected to a page with a link to an archive for the Zords account. Tampabay721 (talk) 22:26, 30 September 2010 (UTC)
Well it appears someone else has opened up an SPI on Moneymonth, so I guess my question is answered now. Thanks anyway though. Tampabay721 (talk) 00:37, 1 October 2010 (UTC)
Yes I just saw that. I guess that's the way to go with that user. Go Yankees :) --Muboshgu (talk) 03:28, 1 October 2010 (UTC)

Jeter's hits

You seem like a sensible guy. You reverted to something you know is "unclear" (actually, wrong)? Also, isn't the idea to improve and not revert other people's work? Finally, let's see a RS. I know you love the Yanks, and I forgive you, but try to rise above your kind. :) Anyway, it's on Jeter's Discussion page. I support anything accurate and properly supported. Ripkin and Wagner are shortstops by any definition, so it's not accurate as it was stated (and there was no RS). You seem to know what you're doing, so I'll leave it to you. guanxi (talk) 04:38, 7 October 2010 (UTC)

As I said in the edit summary, and on the Jeter talk page, Ripken and Wagner were not exclusively shortstops. I provided the source. I didn't have time when I undid your edit earlier to search for one. --Muboshgu (talk) 04:41, 7 October 2010 (UTC)
So you reverted to a statement that you yourself say is unclear, and which in fact is misleading. Also, if you don't have time, then don't revert it. We can debate it in the discussion page. guanxi (talk) 04:53, 7 October 2010 (UTC)

Re: Template:Chicago Cubs

You were right to revert, although for not quite the right reason. The team now known as the Cubs played in 3 of the 19th century World Series, but did not win any of them. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots18:31, 18 October 2010 (UTC)

Hitting for the cycle

You may already be aware of this, but the table sort by date actually sorts by month first. Unless there's a way to trick it, you would probably have to specify the dates in YYYY-MM-DD format. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots18:07, 19 October 2010 (UTC)

quotes

You just made a huge number of edits to baseball page saying that having a quotes section violates, "our consensus." When did I agree to this and where? 018 (talk) 01:36, 25 October 2010 (UTC)

I can't find a link at the moment, but it's been discussed at WT:BASEBALL with the consensus that these quotes aren't encyclopedic. --Muboshgu (talk) 01:42, 25 October 2010 (UTC)
Hmm, while doing something like this it would be nice to post a link while you are doing it in the edit summary. As is, I'm sure a consensus at WP:BASEBALL doesn't matter for a hill of beans relative to WP wide policy (see WP:CONSENSUS). But in general, they need to be notable and there shouldn't be many, and probably just hanging out there in a quotes section is a bad idea. Perhaps you should move them to wikiquote. 018 (talk) 01:52, 27 October 2010 (UTC)

World Series

And if you'd care to look at the facts, you'd know that as of now, neither team has appeared in the 2010 World Series, as the 2010 World Series hasn't started yet. --Muboshgu (talk) 17:55, 25 October 2010 (UTC)

MLB Free Agency

Just a note on the new free agency rules, in case you didn't see them - there is no more 'declaring free agency'. 5 days after the end of the World Series, anyone eligible is automatically a free agent. So that's when we get to update.... Blahblah32blahblah (talk) 14:27, 27 October 2010 (UTC)

Games 5 was not vandalism

Yes, I was having a little FUN with the commentary and I know you had to remove the commentary about Lee, but the rest was factual. Lee gave up a home run to Rentaria. Lincecum had a stellar night. How is that vandalism? Why remove all of it? Sheesh... —Preceding unsigned comment added by Kochamanita (talkcontribs) 02:43, 2 November 2010 (UTC)

Your edit: "Cliff Lee gave up a big homer in another sub-par start in his second World Series game of the season to clutch hitter Edgar Rentaria. Maybe the Yankees won't pay through the nose to grab this guy for next fall's run. This looks to be the nail in the Rangers' coffin as Lincecum is having a stellar night." This edit did not follow WP:MOS, violated WP:NPOV, WP:CRYSTAL, and probably a few other rules I'm not thinking about. --Muboshgu (talk) 02:54, 2 November 2010 (UTC)

Brian Wilson

Hey, if I'm reading this right it looks like you deleted the "Post-Game Gesture" section from Brian Wilson's entry a few weeks ago. This is one of the most-asked questions about the player, and http://blogs.mercurynews.com/extrabaggs/2008/07/14/at-long-last-brian-wilson-reveals-the-meaning-behind-his-crossed-arms-gesture-after-he-saves-a-game/ shows that the information you deleted was accurate. Any way you could put it back in somewhere? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 219.26.7.1 (talk) 10:34, 2 November 2010 (UTC)

I deleted a lot of crap that people added there. If I deleted something accurate and sourced, than it is my mistake, assuming the source was there. I only delete unsourced material. I'll take a look and readd it if it's appropriate. --Muboshgu (talk) 13:44, 2 November 2010 (UTC)
I found the edit you were referring to. I removed it because it was unsourced. I have restored it with the source you provided. --Muboshgu (talk) 13:49, 2 November 2010 (UTC)

Free agency

This year, MLB has changed the way they handle free agency in an effort to speed up the process and not have so many players left in limbo so close to spring training. Part of that is they did away with "declaring" free agency. All players eligible for free agency were released into free agency when the World Series ended. --Muboshgu (talk) 01:33, 6 November 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for the info. Was there a discussion on the free agency topic discussing it? I'm trying to wrap my brains around the confirmable sourcing on rosters such as the discussion here regarding keeping players listed on the roster so long as they are on the MLB roster, even though the information on it is incorrect. I know that position is different than status, but i'm trying to apply the discussion consistently. (the player info is incorrect, or there is a more correct few to take, but because the 'correct' few is not source able on the roster, we go with what we can source to avoid original research) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Red3biggs (talkcontribs) 00:22, 7 November 2010 (UTC)

Borders?

Why did you remove them from the MLB Championships template navboxes? I was extrapolating the usage of borders on the NFL version of them and the Detroit Pistons had them done already on the NBA side, so I was doing this to make stuff uniform across all sports disciplines. Thanks for hearing me out, which I would like a comment on your talk page, don't worry about putting it on mine, I will check back later.IBS101 (talk) 20:46, 8 November 2010 (UTC)

At WP:BASEBALL, we have consensus to keep the templates simple. I don't remember when that was from. You might want to bring it up on the project's talk page to see if people support the borders. --Muboshgu (talk) 20:58, 8 November 2010 (UTC)

Great, but I'm not sure I understand... that code means we don't have to wikilink the name? How does it work when you need to link to someone who's name had been diambiguated? --Muboshgu (talk) 00:12, 13 November 2010 (UTC)
Yep, no more wikilinking. For example, Brandon Graham (American football):

Yankees Roster Template and Date

Hi! One of the IP addresses changed the date again, but he changed it to November 7 instead of November 6. I'm going to leave it, since free agency began on the seventh, and technically that's when Jeter, Rivera, etc should have been removed from the roster. If you have any thoughts, let me know. Thanks a bunch! Kjscotte34 (talk) 02:10, 14 November 2010 (UTC)

I noticed, and I agree with letting this one stand pat. Usually, this IP changes the date to whatever date it is that day. This time, the edit actually makes sense. --Muboshgu (talk) 02:34, 14 November 2010 (UTC)

Wausau Timbers don't equal Wausau Mets

I have come across at least one instance where you categorized Wausau Mets players as playing for the Timbers. You don't do that, just like with the city of Tacoma, a minor leauge baseball city with multiple team names, gets a category for each. The Tacoma Tugs, Tacoma Yankees, Tacoma Twins, Tacoma Tigers. Salt Lake City is another example. Teams in that city with a category include the Buzz, Bees, Gulls, and Angels.

To straighten this out, I created a separate Wausau Mets category and will edit player article pages to recognize players who played for this team.-William 12:39, 16 November 2010 (UTC)

Template:US Bank Arena Concerts

In regard to this page, I didn't think it was a clear violation of WP:CSD#T2. Then again, I also didn't think it was really a template, just an article in disguise. I've removed the speedy delete tag and moved it to US Bank Arena concerts, but this is not an endorsement of the content, so please feel free to request deletion of the page under some other applicable criterion or process such as WP:PROD or WP:AFD. --Metropolitan90 (talk) 00:07, 18 November 2010 (UTC)

I think the CSD criteria for templates are lacking, honestly. This is something I feel should be speedied, though maybe it isn't an "unambiguous" violation. I will PROD it as WP:NOTDIR. --Muboshgu (talk) 02:20, 18 November 2010 (UTC)

Baseball players

It's not crystal balling. Kingjeff (talk) 16:57, 19 November 2010 (UTC)

It is. It's predicting the future. You are predicting who will and will not play where in 2011. We don't know who will be traded, released, non-tendered, suffer a career ending injury in spring training, etc. They can be signed to a team and that can be mentioned in the text, but the infobox is only for teams with which they have played at least one game, and to this point nobody has played a game in the 2011 season. --Muboshgu (talk) 17:00, 19 November 2010 (UTC)

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on United States presidential election, 2012. Users who edit disruptively or refuse to collaborate with others may be blocked if they continue. In particular the three-revert rule states that making more than three reversions on a single page within a 24-hour period is almost always grounds for an immediate block. If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the talk page to discuss controversial changes. Work towards wording and content that gains consensus among editors. If unsuccessful, then do not edit war even if you believe you are right. Post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If edit warring continues, you may be blocked from editing without further notice. DC TC 19:44, 22 November 2010 (UTC)

Baseball Templates

Hi, thank you for talking to me about it. I was not trying to vandalize the Yankees-Giants Template page. I actually was trying to create a Yankees-Dodgers template, but after I saved changes to create it, I was not able to go back to it. I was the one who created the Yankees-Giants template in the first place and had the same problems then. Someone else wound up solving the problem, I forget who. If you could help with the creation of a Yankees-Dodgers template that would be helpful. Thank you! Arnabdas (talk) 20:48, 26 November 2010 (UTC)

I should clarify, that I wa trying to create the Yankees-Dodgers template by using the text of the Yankees-Giants template as a shell and just changing the relevant links inside it. Hope that makes sense. Arnabdas (talk) 20:49, 26 November 2010 (UTC)
Gotcha. I'll take a look at it. --Muboshgu (talk) 20:53, 26 November 2010 (UTC)

Nomination of List of New York Yankees first-round draft picks for deletion

A discussion has begun about whether the article List of New York Yankees first-round draft picks, which you created or to which you contributed, should be deleted. While contributions are welcome, an article may be deleted if it is inconsistent with Wikipedia policies and guidelines for inclusion, explained in the deletion policy.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of New York Yankees first-round draft picks until a consensus is reached, and you are welcome to contribute to the discussion.

You may edit the article during the discussion, including to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. BwburkeLetsPlays (talk|contribs) 20:49, 8 December 2010 (UTC)

Bad Form

See, what I think is "bad form" is everyone I've encountered on Wikipedia defending someone who has stolen photos and is not only passing them off as her own but who is giving everyone permission to use them when they aren't hers.

Every normal route we have taken to get this matter fixed has been rebuffed. Apparently, Wikipedia nor its regular contributors care much about the law, just about protecting each other.

The girl has broken the law and no one here seems to really care. But,yes, you're right, it's the people trying to right that wrong who are showing bad form. How silly of me. AuntieDa (talk) 21:01, 8 December 2010 (UTC)

There's a way to do something, and a way not to do it. Vandalizing someone's user page is not the way to do it. Like Alansohn said, take it up with the appropriate entity, and if you're proven to be right, the appropriate actions will be taken. --Muboshgu (talk) 21:03, 8 December 2010 (UTC)

The uniform number changes that I inserted are a result of this article in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch: http://www.stltoday.com/sports/baseball/professional/article_b5642f1a-02ea-11e0-b3d0-0017a4a78c22.html

Mike Aldrete has been the assistant hitting coach for the Cardinals since 2008.

Please stop reverting these constructive changes. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jhremo3 (talkcontribs) 17:59, 12 December 2010 (UTC)

I had no way of knowing this about the numbers. Next time, put the url in the edit summary. However I see no evidence of Mike Aldrete being part of the coaching staff [1] --Muboshgu (talk) 18:01, 12 December 2010 (UTC)

Moves to manager lists

Is there any reason that you undertook changing a lot of stuff with the MLB managers lists? Or was there a discussion somewhere that I missed? — KV5Talk13:42, 13 December 2010 (UTC)

There wasn't a discussion. I noticed that about half of the franchises had "owner and executive" pages and that they were horribly unstandardized, so I put them in the same format and created them for the franchises that didn't have them. They should either all have them or none should. Then I noticed that some of the manager pages had GM info, and that some of them were at featured list status. At that point I thought about stopping and holding a discussion before moving that info, but I noticed most of the manager pages didn't have any GM info so aiming for standardization, I thought I could move forward and explain my actions later. --Muboshgu (talk) 14:45, 13 December 2010 (UTC)
OK, making sure I wasn't missing something. Perhaps now's a good time to bring up at WT:MLB where the general managers belong. — KV5Talk17:47, 13 December 2010 (UTC)
Good idea. --Muboshgu (talk) 20:16, 13 December 2010 (UTC)

Philadelphia Phillies Opening Day starters template

Whoo, that's long-looking. I'm ok with it if you are, I was just trying to save space. — KV5Talk16:57, 16 December 2010 (UTC)

I was testing it, it seemed okay on Template:New York Yankees Opening Day starting pitchers. Point is it's way too long when it lists each one by year in the template, and I like what you did much better. You can revert back to last names only if you want, doesn't much matter to me. I think it was 4 lines that way and 6 this way (at least on my monitor). Judgment call. --Muboshgu (talk) 19:29, 16 December 2010 (UTC)

Brian Anderson

Are you sure about changing Anderson's page to outfielder/pitcher. He hasn't pitched a single Major League inning yet so it seems premature to me.. His career to this point has been as an outfielder. Perhaps some discussion on the project page about this first? Spanneraol (talk) 00:40, 17 December 2010 (UTC)

You think it's necessary for him to have pitched in the majors before it's appropriate? He's gone through the conversion, pitched some last year, and signed as a pitcher for 2011. --Muboshgu (talk) 01:24, 17 December 2010 (UTC)
Usually, the position the player is credited as is one in which he has played in the majors. Spanneraol (talk) 02:22, 17 December 2010 (UTC)

Starting pitchers template

Why'd you make such a radical change? I liked the original style better, provided much more information. Spanneraol (talk) 02:23, 17 December 2010 (UTC)

Sorry, forgot the edit summary. These templates are too big, and repeat names. Info on who started which Opening Day is available at the page, the template should be for navigation. --Muboshgu (talk) 02:32, 17 December 2010 (UTC)

RE: Kerry Wood

Actually, the deal is final. Cubs.com isn't reporting it yet because he has to take a physical before they can. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2010/12/cubs-to-sign-kerry-wood.html There's some proof. Jntg4Games (talk) 02:40, 17 December 2010 (UTC)

It says Cubs "to" sign Kerry Wood. That's future tense. If Wood fails the physical, the deal is off, so the deal isn't final. --Muboshgu (talk) 02:55, 17 December 2010 (UTC)
He won't fail it. Just stop changing it, it will be official by tomorrow anyway. If you already changed it again, then whatever, more work but fine. Jntg4Games (talk) 03:25, 17 December 2010 (UTC)
How do you know he won't fail? That's a violation of WP:CRYSTAL. --Muboshgu (talk) 03:26, 17 December 2010 (UTC)

#8 for Berra

I'd think Yogi Berra is to be considered a PLAYER who's number was retired, not a player/manager like Billy Martin for example. Yes, he did have the managerial job with the Yankees on two brief stints, but his number was retired exclusively as a catcher. Plus, his second stint hadn't even happened yet at the time the number was being retired in '72. I thought his number should be listed as a catcher only. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Subtorrct (talkcontribs) 01:30, 21 December 2010 (UTC)

You are right that while Martin was recognized as a player/manager, Berra was recognized predominantly for his playing. You make a good point, but we typically list all relevant positions, even if Berra's two managerial tenures were forgettable. --Muboshgu (talk) 02:12, 21 December 2010 (UTC)

Terry Collins

Okay, I read the above passage on your page, but shouldn't it be applied to all other managers hired in the 2010-11 offseason? Richiekim (talk) 15:32, 21 December 2010 (UTC)

Yes. Those are wrong and I'll change them to make it all uniform. Nobody should have "2011-present" in their infobox since it's not the 2011 season yet (hell, it isn't 2011 yet) and saying "future to present" is not right. --Muboshgu (talk) 15:33, 21 December 2010 (UTC)

luke scott

Whether it is routine or not, it doesn't change the fact that it was just news coverage and nothing more. It is irrelevant to his bio. Truthsort (talk) 02:50, 18 December 2010 (UTC)

You might be right. I'm open to reconsidering. But like I said in my edit summary, you should take it up on Talk:Luke Scott to change consensus. --Muboshgu (talk) 03:01, 18 December 2010 (UTC)
Well, have you changed your mind on this issue? Truthsort (talk) 16:44, 25 December 2010 (UTC)

December 2010

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Brandon Webb. You broke the WP:3RR rule attempting to revert the addition of unreferenced information on Brandon Webb, a BLP. Although the addition of unreferenced information is a clear violation of the BLP policy, a search could have shown you the connection between Rangers and Brandon Webb. In other words, rather than reverting, you should have taken this issue to the BLP Noticeboard. But I assume good faith and hope that in the future, before breaking the 3RR rule, you will take considerable care. Thanks Wifione ....... Leave a message 13:01, 27 December 2010 (UTC)

2011-present issue

If this is still bothering you, check out WT:BASEBALL. I have written an idea that may help the problem. What do you think of it? TL565 (talk) 21:42, 18 December 2010 (UTC)

Also one more thing. Before I start changing to the new compromise, should it be "present" or "Present" with a capital P? TL565 (talk) 04:10, 19 December 2010 (UTC)
Um, I think capital is better, but I'm not sure. Not a big deal. --Muboshgu (talk) 04:12, 19 December 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for the information about the infoboxes. I was unaware of the compromise. TheLabryinth (talk) 19:15, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
