ArbCom 2023 Elections voter message
Hello! Voting in the 2023 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 11 December 2023. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
If you wish to participate in the 2023 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}}
to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:22, 28 November 2023 (UTC)
Your draft article, Draft:Priyanka Patel
Hello, PatGallacher. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "Priyanka Patel".
In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been deleted. When you plan on working on it further and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.
Thanks for your submission to Wikipedia, and happy editing. Liz Read! Talk! 02:10, 30 November 2023 (UTC)
Avoiding links to disambiguation pages
Hallo, in this edit you linked to the disambiguation page World Youth Championship.
There is an easy way to avoid linking to disambiguation pages: if you go to "Preferences", "Gadgets", and look under "Appearance" you'll see "Display links to disambiguation pages in orange" towards the bottom of the section. Select that tickbox, and whenever you Preview a page you'll be able to see whether you've accidentally linked to a disambiguation page. Thanks, and Happy Editing. PamD 09:15, 21 December 2023 (UTC)
@PatGallacher: Hi there and happy new year! I'm just messaging as I've seen you have edited at talk on Lucy Letby before so thought you may be interested in giving your view at Talk:Lucy Letby#RFC on Lead sentence. There's a vote there on whether to exclude calling her a serial killer, on various grounds including "I don't think we can assert in Wiki's voice that she is a murderer".
Suspiciously to me, the whole debate was started when the editor Richard D. Gill -- already-blocked for promoting his real-world advocacy in trying to portray Letby and others as innocent [1], [2] -- apparently appeared again(!) to evade his block and suggest the whole intro be changed to claim she is just an "alleged" killer: [3] - EXACTLY the same wording he'd suspiciously been asking for on his own Twitter account!: [4]. All seems very weird to me. 86.187.174.5 (talk) 15:26, 31 December 2023 (UTC)
Deletion discussion about Akram al-Shafei
Hello PatGallacher, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia.
While your contributions are appreciated, I wanted to let you know that I've started a discussion about whether an article that you created, Akram al-Shafei, should be deleted, as I am not sure that it is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia in its current form. Your comments are welcome at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Akram al-Shafei.
Deletion discussions usually run for seven days and are not votes. Our guide about effectively contributing to such discussions is worth a read. The most common issue in these discussions is notability, but it's not the only aspect that may be discussed; read the nomination and any other comments carefully before you contribute to the discussion. Last but not least, you are highly encouraged to continue improving the article; just be sure not to remove the tag about the deletion nomination from the top.
If you have any questions, please leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|Karnataka}}

Speedy deletion nomination of Category:Rape in Belarus
A tag has been placed on Category:Rape in Belarus indicating that it is currently empty, and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion. If it remains empty for seven days or more, it may be deleted under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and removing the speedy deletion tag. Liz Read! Talk! 04:08, 31 March 2024 (UTC)

The article Yonatan Steinberg has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Pretty much a classic, if not stereotypical WP:BLP1E instance. No meaningful coverage of the subject before or after the one event involved, and basically only obituary coverage.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Iskandar323 (talk) 12:50, 5 May 2024 (UTC)

Hey, to the best of my knowledge, striking comments that are not extended-confirmed (in areas where you have to be) is pretty close to standard practice. I‘m happy to stop if it isn’t permitted, but I’m unfamiliar with the policy saying that it shouldn’t be done, and it feels like a good compromise between leaving as is (bad for the closer) and fully removing (less transparent).
I apologise if I missed something obvious :) FortunateSons (talk) 15:33, 7 May 2024 (UTC)
- News to me that this is standard practice. Also, when you said EC, I assumed you mean Encyclopedic Comment. PatGallacher (talk) 15:51, 7 May 2024 (UTC)
- The older move discussion on Talk:Flour massacre has a few examples of !votes by users who are not extended confirmed being struck. However, I do agree that it’s optional, so I don’t mind the removal, I was just confused. :) FortunateSons (talk) 16:05, 7 May 2024 (UTC)

An article you recently created, Greg Philo, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) The article Paul Greenwood has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this biography of a living person will be deleted after seven days unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.
If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp/dated}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within seven days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. JoeNMLC (talk) 14:31, 10 June 2024 (UTC)
