Speedy deletion nomination of Alexander Findlay Macdonald

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Alexander Findlay Macdonald requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a real person or group of people that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.   Please do not introduce links in actual articles to draft articles, as you did to Sylvester H. Earl and Alexander Findlay Macdonald. Since a draft is not yet ready for the main article space, it is not in shape for ordinary readers, and links from articles should not go to a draft. Such links are contrary to the Manual of Style. These links have been removed. Thank you. - Arjayay (talk) 10:47, 16 April 2023 (UTC)

April 2023

Hello, PaulGamerBoy360. Thank you for helping to build Wikipedia-- the world's largest free content encyclopedia. The page Career Tech High School has been speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This was done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seemed to be unambiguous advertising which only promoted a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to have been fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

This article needs to be rewritten from scratch from reliable, third party sources unconnected to the subject. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia. It is not an outlet for promotion, advocacy, or advertising.

Information on content and common pitfalls to avoid can be located here and here, however be aware that this is not an exhaustive list. Pages can sometimes avoid these pitfalls and still be seen as an ad copy or unambiguously promotional, particularly if the editor appears to be a paid editor or has some other conflict of interest. Please review these policies, including the FAQ page on organizations to determine if this applies to you.

Common mistakes or beliefs about promotional editing center on the assumption that promotional editing only applies to promotion for commercial gain. Some tags or G11 nominations are met with confusion by creators, particularly if they spend much time reading or creating corporate documents, mission/vision statements, or similar copy for their organization. The frequent exposure to promotional tone may make it difficult to notice non-neutral phrases or styles, as the editor has grown accustomed to seeing it as everyday writing or speech. This can be difficult, but not impossible, to unlearn.

Another common assumption is that the prohibition against promotional editing applies only to businesses or organizations. Anything can be promoted, including a person, a non-commercial organization, a point of view, etc. and CV/resumé's are by their nature promotional.

Wikipedia is an encyclopedia-- subjects must meet notability guidelines with reliable sources that are unconnected with the subject and providing verifiable information. That generally means someone unconnected with the subject needs to have written a great deal about the subject. Please see this page on citing sources and Wikipedia:Common sourcing mistakes (notability). This page has templates you can use in citing your sources. Place the template {{Reflist}} at the bottom of the page, and references cited in the text will appear there. New article creation can be difficult, but the Article Wizard can help you. The new user tutorial can help you avoid future problems. You can also ask for help at the TEAHOUSE and on IRC chat, as well as Wikipedia:WikiProject Articles for creation/Help desk. Wikipedia:The Wikipedia Adventure is a useful tutorial.

New article creation can be difficult and frustrating. Sometimes it is better to first gain experience by fixing and helping maintain existing articles. Wikipedia:Community portal/Opentask contains links to things that badly need doing, if you are so inclined. -- Deepfriedokra (talk) 09:07, 19 April 2023 (UTC)

Re: I was just wondering why my website cannot be on my user page???
I have removed my age school and date frome my website because i didn't want it on there, and there is no personal information on it, so I don't understand why i cant have the link to my website. PaulGamerBoy360 (talk) 16:30, 25 April 2023 (UTC)
I recommend you read WP:USERPAGE, which states what user pages are for; in particular WP:UPNOT which says what they are not for. Bazza (talk) 17:24, 25 April 2023 (UTC)
Yes & it states: "You are also welcome to include a simple link to your personal home page" PaulGamerBoy360 (talk) 17:26, 25 April 2023 (UTC)

Answering questions

I suggest you refrain from answering questions at the Teahouse and the help desk until you've gained more experience. Your response of Go to page history & revert to an older version. wasn't appropriate. The only time that would be a good idea would be if the edit was vandalism, which it wasn't in this case. Incorrect answers may not seem that bad, however if a user sees that as the first answer they may assume its the correct one before seeing any other answers which can possibly lead to them getting blocked for something that could've been avoided. ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 17:22, 25 April 2023 (UTC)

I answered that question assuming someone mistakenly removed the information, & yes I will not answer questions on those links. PaulGamerBoy360 (talk) 17:24, 25 April 2023 (UTC)
You shouldn't assume things like that. Its important that you look at the context so that you can answer the question as accurately as possible. I'm speaking from experience, if you look at my oldest archives on my talk page, you can see that I got myself into a bit of trouble because I kept answering Teahouse questions when I didn't know the answer and occasionally gave incorrect responses. ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 17:27, 25 April 2023 (UTC)
Yep I now know to always check the context, and I will stop answering questions until I become more experienced. Thanks~~~ PaulGamerBoy360 (talk) 17:30, 25 April 2023 (UTC)

U.S. Route 91

Thanks for the addition to U.S. Route 91. FYI, I expanded your addition using the sources you provided, but moved it to the history section. The reason I did this is the name Old Dixie Highway only applies to the portion of the highway through Washington County, Utah. It does not apply to the entire road, and likely would be confusing to someone in Logan, Utah, or Riverside, California. But I do think it's a cool adddition.   Hello, I'm Atlantic306. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, Reconnect Regal Theatre, Bathgate, Scotland, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so. You can have a look at referencing for beginners. If you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. The additions you made need to be independently referenced as per WP:REFB Atlantic306 (talk) 23:15, 1 May 2023 (UTC)

If you are talking about the moscow university page, then yes i can because that information was on there before I added my information that I Cited. You gave bo reason for getting rid of the information which is also against Wikipedia Policy. PaulGamerBoy360 (talk) 17:37, 3 May 2023 (UTC)
I addressed the overlink issue. With an appropriate edit summary. You reverted. https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Moscow_Polytechnic_University&diff=prev&oldid=1152988730 --2603:7000:2101:AA00:25F0:C85D:ACEC:9294 (talk) 20:33, 3 May 2023 (UTC)
And there was no overlink PaulGamerBoy360 (talk) 00:44, 4 May 2023 (UTC)
Of course there was. Which you reinserted. Linking Moscow, Russia, and automobile. Have you read the rule? 2603:7000:2101:AA00:D866:5AC:AC04:C82A (talk) 02:13, 4 May 2023 (UTC)
I did not insert those links, there were there before, & all you needed to do was unlink them not change the whole paragraph. PaulGamerBoy360 (talk) 22:40, 4 May 2023 (UTC)
Today you added alumni to Zion Heights Middle School that are not supported by refs. I and another editor already noted that doing this is a violation of our WP:BLP policy. Please undo that portion of your edits to that article. That will go a long way to demonstrating that you now recognize the importance of this site standard. I don't know what article the IP was noting a few days ago. DMacks (talk) 21:07, 5 May 2023 (UTC)
I restored the revision & forgot to remove the alumini, other notable information that was referenced correctly was removed, I will remove the alumini section. PaulGamerBoy360 (talk) 21:17, 5 May 2023 (UTC)

Hello, I'm 69.92.163.38. I noticed that you made a comment on the page Zion Heights Middle School that didn't seem very civil, so it may have been removed. Wikipedia is built on collaboration, so it's one of our core principles to interact with one another in a polite and respectful manner. If you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you.

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Zion Heights Middle School. This means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be although other editors disagree. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus, rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Points to note:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made;
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes and work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing. 69.92.163.38 (talk) 23:43, 5 May 2023 (UTC)

See the edit summaries for further information. You can't possibly know the motivation of another's actions, either on Wikipedia or IRL. Attributing an evil motive to a constructive action is a personal attack. Please WP:AGF. It's policy. 69.92.163.38 (talk) 23:46, 5 May 2023 (UTC)

One last thing. Wikipedia has a manual of style which among other things covers the use of bolded text. There are only a few places it is appropriate and it shouldn't be used for emphasis. Thanks. 69.92.163.38 (talk) 23:51, 5 May 2023 (UTC)

Hi PaulGamerBoy360! I noticed that you recently marked an edit as minor at Italian Cycling Federation that may not have been. "Minor edit" has a very specific definition on Wikipedia—it refers only to superficial edits that could never be the subject of a dispute, such as typo corrections or reverting obvious vandalism. Any edit that changes the meaning of an article is not a minor edit, even if it only concerns a single word. Please see Help:Minor edit for more information. Thank you. Paulpat99 (talk) 22:10, 7 May 2023 (UTC)

Using Wikipedia as a source

Hey, Just a head's up you've done it on Italian Cycling Federation and now I see on your Draft:Jose Mariano Calderon de San Martin. But you cannot use Wikipedia as a Source in a Wikipedia article. The information is here WP:CIRCULAR if you require further information. Happy Editing, Paulpat99 (talk) 22:32, 7 May 2023 (UTC)

I did that because i translated that page from the spanish wikipedia. How do I let people know that it is a translation??? PaulGamerBoy360 (talk) 22:33, 7 May 2023 (UTC)
Ah well unfortunately I do not know how but I had a quick Search and I think WP:TRANSLATETOHERE might help. But also you cannot just add material from another article, you need to have sources to back up that content. The rules in English Wikipedia are different to those in other languages. Try asking at the help desk. Paulpat99 (talk) 22:41, 7 May 2023 (UTC)

American English vs British English

Howdy, I hope your editing is going well. Just a quick note with spellings in other countries I see you recently changed Mont Albert, Victoria spellings of the word Centre to Center as per WP:SPELLING Australia and other British countries use the spelling Centre. As Wikipedia is world-wide and not based in America it uses the spellings of whatever region the page is about so an American article uses American spellings i.e. color and center while an Australian article will use Colour and Centre.

Simply put WP:SPELLCHECK states "Be sure to use the spelling for the correct dialect of a language (e.g., American English vs. British English)". Just a small thing to note that should be followed. If you have any questions I am happy to help. Paulpat99 (talk) 18:32, 9 May 2023 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Category:Heroes of El Salvador

A tag has been placed on Category:Heroes of El Salvador indicating that it is currently empty, and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion. If it remains empty for seven days or more, it may be deleted under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion.

Hello, PaulGamerBoy360,
I don't think you understand what categories are and how they work. There should not be article content on a category page. It is a navigational tool, not a page for your to write an article on. Please move your content over to a page in Draft space which is a namespace created for developing articles.
If you have questions about categories on Wikipedia, please bring them to the Teahouse. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 03:38, 8 May 2023 (UTC)
I did not write an article on the catagory, the catagory currently only has one english article in its space, i added a link to the spanish version of the catagory & still listed the names of the articles in the spanish catagory. PaulGamerBoy360 (talk) 21:41, 8 May 2023 (UTC)
Well, there shouldn't be any content or lists on a category page. Look at any other category page and you can see what I mean. Your list of names of articles is what I meant by "article content". Liz Read! Talk! 04:45, 31 May 2023 (UTC)

Hello, PaulGamerBoy360,

Welcome to Wikipedia! I edit here too, under the username Significa liberdade and I thank you for your contributions.

Mirrors

Thanks for contributing to the article Dhi As Sufal District. However, one of Wikipedia's core policies is that material must be verifiable and attributed to reliable sources. You have recently used citations which copied, or mirrored, material from Wikipedia. This leads to a circular reference and is not acceptable. AFD request(#1)

Hello, PaulGamerBoy360,

I'm not sure how to get this point across but it doesn't matter if an article is one sentence or two sentence. Wikipedia has plenty of very short articles. That is not an important rationale for deletion and I think by mentioning this, editors do not take your nominations as seriously. Please review Wikipedia:Guide to deletion and Wikipedia:Arguments to avoid in deletion discussions. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 00:59, 3 October 2023 (UTC)

please specify which article you are talking about, because the articles I have nominated have few sources most of which are unreliable. PaulGamerBoy360 (talk) 01:08, 3 October 2023 (UTC)
I wasn't talking about specific articles, I was discussing your deletion rationales in AFDs. An article being one or two sentences long is not a good deletion rationale. It could be that there are other reasons why it should be deleted but being a short article isn't a valid deletion rationale.
Also, please do not move articles that are being discussed in an AFD. It messes things up when a closer try to close an AFD discussion. You seem to think you are more experienced than you are. In your case, I think you should be less bold. Liz Read! Talk! 00:41, 5 October 2023 (UTC)
