Welcome to my talk page. Please leave me a message below and I will reply on your talk page. Although my email address is enabled, it is not an address I check often (so I may be slow in replying to email). Please also note that while I am glad to do a peer review on just about any article, I do not have the time to do copyedits (sorry). Thanks for stopping by and happy editing! BNP article

RFC will not work as it will entail the same biased and POV pushing users which are currently owning this article and preventing anything from going into the article to attempt to drag this article back to neutrality. As for 3O it would have to be somebody like you as anybody even in europe would be branded biassed in favour of the BNP and a racist if they attempted to modify the article in a way which was opposed to the owners views.--Lucy-marie (talk) 09:11, 1 September 2008 (UTC)

I would like to make clear that I do not want a Pro-BNP or an Anti-BNP page I simply want a page which conforms to all policies and guidelines and is most of all neutral in point of view.

There are number of concerns which I have for this article:
1. The overall tone of the article. The lead of the article is not objective It goes straight into talking of their electoral performance and people and points of vies which are anti-BNP. Such as by stating the party "believes there are "biological racial differences." No other lead goes straight in to talking about the policies of a party. It also only mentions they have a handful of seats or mentions elections where they won no seat. The lead does not contain that the party won a London assembly seat.
2. The lead is too long it should be three or four paragraph and not the seven it currently is.
3. The final paragraph of the lead is unnecessary.
4. The sources which are used particularly to support controversial statements such as a political position of Fascism are out of date and refer to the BNP under a different leadership to the current one. There are also numerous links to the 2005 manifesto which are no longer available, but an updated manifesto has been placed on the internet. The number of sources which are not verifiable online is also quite high, e.g. by quoting a block statement without providing where the statement can be located. This is demonstrated in reference 21 most. clearly.
5. Some sections which are anti-BNP e.g. the third paragraph of the Nick Griffin section contain no references at all.
6. There is no mention or link in the main body of the article to the historic BNP of the 1960s.
7. The large use of weasel words throughout the article such as "observers have suggested" and "some of whom" are found littering the article.
8. The Guardian's infiltration section, is the over use of a small piece by one media outlet that was not widely reported mainstream and is used to promote the BNP in a negative light in this article.
9. In depth analysis of only three policies, there needs to be a broader focus of all the policies and not a POV chosen three. The language contained is of a poor quality and contains POV phrasing "Sky News confronted the party's national press officer", The final paragraph of the racial policies section is just a quote.
10. The "Violence and Criminal Beheaviour" section is blatant POV as not even SInn Fein have a section on that.

This is just 10 points I could go on but I don't want to clog up your talk page. I hope this helps.--Lucy-marie (talk) 11:16, 8 September 2008 (UTC)

Wow! My first ever DYK submission (timidly offered, and one of the few articles I have created from scratch). I have a nice warm feeling, although that could be the wine. Thanks for letting me know :) Karenjc 23:12, 1 September 2008 (UTC)

Okay, Dr. Hook, I just wrote Williamsport Tigers do you see a hook? Maybe DYK...that the Williamsport Tigers played in historic Bowman Field with grandstands that were originally from Tiger Stadium? any other ideas are greatly appreciated.

Franklin County, Pa. website

I am questioning why the link to www.franklincounty-pa.com has been removed from several entries. The site is devoted to the history, government and people of Franklin County, Pa. and yes, there is some advertising (the site has to get paid for somehow). It is a shame that has been removed, and yet other sites remain listed which are primarily advertising based (www.publicopiniononline.com). I just wanted to vent my frustration at the double-standard. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Franklincounty-pa (talkcontribs) 16:40, 2 September 2008 (UTC)

Renovo or South Renovo

I recently uploaded a picture from flickr that was labeled as being Renovo, Pennsylvania, but I am pretty sure that it is South Renovo, Pennsylvania instead. A quick look at google earth seems to confirm this. It's been well over 10 years since I was even close to Renovo or South Renovo. Could you check and make sure I am correct? I will ask Finetooth too, who seems to be from or is familiar with Clinton County. Dincher (talk) 21:07, 3 September 2008 (UTC)

Thanks. I hadn't thought of looking at it that way. I think I made the changes needed on Evan Royster to answer the asked question. Replied on the DYK page too. Dincher (talk) 21:42, 3 September 2008 (UTC)

Geobox location maps; no Washington template?

Hi Ruhrfisch. I'm not quite sure if you are the right person to ask, but since you have all those location map links on your page I thought you might have a answer to this question. I just discovered that the Geobox 2 for rivers can produce a automagical location map of the river's mouth, with a little dot on the appropriate state map. Impressed, I tried a few for some rivers in Washington and got expression errors. I think I traced the problem to the lack of a Template:Geobox locator Washington. I saw that such a template exists for Montana, Template:Geobox locator Montana, and successfully made Thompson River (Montana), with a locator map. Since I am quite clueless about how this magic works, I wondered if you had any ideas about why there isn't a Washington template. If I knew how to make one I'd do it myself, but this is all a bit technically mystical to me, so I ask. Thanks! Pfly (talk) 08:02, 4 September 2008 (UTC)

JSPC&B picture

Yeah, I just noticed that. I was looking over Taber's "Railroad Atlas of Pennsylvania" when you left the message. I'm having trouble identifying the locomotive; Taber says the JSPC&B itself didn't own any locomotives. The Fall Brook Coal Co. owned a #51, but that was a 2-6-0, and this looks to me like an 0-4-0, maybe a construction engine or switcher. The JSPC&B wasn't leased to the Fall Brook until 1884, so perhaps it is a New York Central engine. Choess (talk) 01:45, 6 September 2008 (UTC)

What's strange, though, is the station. Both the station and the signals are typical of a mainline railroad, not a logging line. Choess (talk) 02:14, 6 September 2008 (UTC)
I think you've got it! I just checked "Railroad Atlas of Pennsylvania", and it says that Weed rented #51 from the NYC to switch their mill yard. According to Taber, the locomotive was built in 1887 as Grand Central Station #1 by the Rome Locomotive Works, was sent to another NYC subsidiary in western Pennsylvania (Warren County) in 1895, and scrapped in 1908. He doesn't say during which period Weed was renting it. Good detective work. (Although from the build date, the photo must actually be during the Pine Creek Railway period.) Choess (talk) 02:23, 6 September 2008 (UTC)
My interpretation of Taber's data is that, while Weed's railroad (the Slate Run Railroad) was 36" gauge, the track at the sawmill at Slate Run was apparently standard gauge. That would explain why they had to rent an NYC engine to "switch the mill yard". The picture might have been taken when the rental engine was delivered, or maybe while performing switching, they ventured onto JSPC&B track. The sawmill and railroad were built in 1886; the sawmill burned in 1893, but was rebuilt, with the railroad and mill closing in 1910. I don't know whether the engine was rented before or after going to Warren Co. in 1895. Choess (talk) 02:33, 6 September 2008 (UTC)
No, don't lift it. I think I'm just going to add a section in that same article on the line's history as the Pine Creek Railway; not enough changed to make it worth a separate article. Does "Sunset..." say anything about the time period of the lease? Choess (talk) 03:10, 6 September 2008 (UTC)

Colton Point State Park

I really like the new panorama at the bottom, especially with the tree up close. I also like the pic of the fire grate. It's interesting. The rest are mighty fine too. The cameo of the pooch is a good one. Dincher (talk) 02:43, 6 September 2008 (UTC)

No problem with the delay on Colton Point. I won't be on the wiki much until Tuesday. I am off this weekend and we'll be busy doing stuff. Dincher (talk) 02:10, 20 September 2008 (UTC)

I'll leave the map decision up to you. Colton Point shouldn't take long at all. I am looking forward to Oil Creek State Park. I have also been thinking about FL for Clinton County, lots of great pics thanks to Nicholas T. Or even an FA for someplace (municipality) in Lycoming County. Salladasburg or Muncy come to mind. My natural bias for South Williamsport set aside of course. Dincher (talk) 02:22, 20 September 2008 (UTC)
The pic of the creek looks good. Nice shadows and light. Dincher (talk) 10:44, 24 September 2008 (UTC)
I like the flowers, but don't know where to use them and don't want to use them if we can't name them correctly. I can tell that they are wild and pink and white. Dincher (talk) 17:24, 24 September 2008 (UTC)
I think Choess may know a thing or two about plants. Want me to ask? Dincher (talk) 22:29, 24 September 2008 (UTC)

The question has been asked. I have covered most of the areas on wiki that I am interested in adding too. I guess it's time to change direction and help to improve this deal. Of course I'll keep on working on Pennsylvania state parks and trying to get them up to FA, but other than that I am pretty much done adding new content. At least until something else catches my fancy. Also real life is a whole lot busier. Girls need lots of attention. Possible good news on that front coming up. Return of the Massacre, take two

Hey Ruhr, I know your busy, and I know you did a copy edit many months ago on Bad Axe Massacre. I am thinking of going for FA with it and was wondering if you had any further suggestions (seeing as how you've been involved in our little collaboration since the beginning) for that attempt. Also, the only article on the battles that never got to GA was Attack at Ament's Cabin, I was angry when the review was done, and life was not good on wiki or off so I mostly ignored the review, was wondering if you had any thoughts on that old review or on the article itself. I was thinking about trying for a featured topic eventually, if Bad Axe passes FA and I can get the main article up to snuff. --IvoShandor (talk) 10:09, 10 September 2008 (UTC)

No rush at all. I will have the time to work on it. When you say "check", what do you mean? See if links are working? Format? Accuracy? Cross-checking? Just wondering, and thanks my wikifriend. :-) --IvoShandor (talk) 12:47, 10 September 2008 (UTC)

Untranscluded FACs

No problem, but when you a see a situation like that (that sends up all kinds of red flags, including the checkuser I just submitted), it's a lot less steps to get an admin involved rather than transcluding a FAC that then has to be botified and archived. Hey Ruhrfisch, listen, do you have time to look over Aaron Eckhart's article and give some feedback? I'm trying to maybe aim to FA status and want to know what needs to be done first. That's if you have time, of course. --  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 20:20, 19 September 2008 (UTC)

Thank you and I know your busy, so take your time. But don't take a month. ;) --  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 01:35, 20 September 2008 (UTC)
Its cool, don't make it your priority. I can wait within the days you stated. :) --  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 01:49, 20 September 2008 (UTC)
Alright, thank you for the comments and I got the stuff you left at the PR. Can you check the article and see if everything is in place? --  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 22:18, 23 September 2008 (UTC)

Clearing out PR backlog

Hello, I thought you might be interested to know that the PR backlog has one article left! You have put the   Doing... template on the remaining article, so I'm assuming you are going to review that one. I just wanted to let you know that you've done an excellent job of keeping the Peer Review process afloat. With plenty of teamwork, we've been able to clear out the backlog! Thanks for all you've done. Dabomb87 (talk) 14:52, 20 September 2008 (UTC)

And thanks for the barnstar. Next time the backlog gets so much, give me a shout. Sorry I hadn't noticed earlier! The Rambling Man (talk)
No problem. Don't get overwhelmed! Keep up your fantastic work. The Rambling Man (talk) 17:27, 20 September 2008 (UTC)

Could you help to review this bridge?

Seeing as how you are a skilled writer of bridges (with FAs to your names) and had given me invaluable advice previously, I would like to request your view on Niagara Falls Suspension Bridge. I would like to make it a Featured Article as well. Please take a look and do not spare the article in your passing at Wikipedia:Peer review/Niagara Falls Suspension Bridge/archive1. Thank you. Jappalang (talk) 00:33, 21 September 2008 (UTC)

Sorry about duplicates

Sorry that I listed auto peer reviews already listed, they were not mentioned on the plain old ordinary peer review pages for the articles in question. Will do a better job of checking. Kind Regards SriMesh | talk 04:34, 21 September 2008 (UTC)

Peer review help

Good day Ruhrfisch! Could you have a look on Wikipedia:Peer review/Meshuggah/archive2 and add some comments/suggestions? It would help me a lot! Have a nice day!--  LYKANTROP  11:31, 21 September 2008 (UTC)

I thank you for answering! I can wait of course, I am glad that you will do it! Thanks! Cheers!--  LYKANTROP  12:41, 21 September 2008 (UTC)

Greetings! Thank you for the comments! I have one more question: Could you have a look at the first paragraph of this section and look if the language is ok please? It has been reworded and I need the language to be proffesional...  :) --  LYKANTROP  19:24, 27 September 2008 (UTC)

List of The Bellflower Bunnies episodes

This time, I'm that serious. Please leave me your feedback and I'll get to it later today. As for the potential splits for season pages, how do you feel about them? --Slgrandson (How's my egg-throwing coleslaw?) 14:28, 21 September 2008 (UTC)

PR

Just a friendly hello from me. I read your Signpost interview, and did a PR right away. Thanks for organizing this stuff. Keep it up! Jakob.scholbach (talk) 11:20, 22 September 2008 (UTC)

College Republicans Peer Reivew

I saw your interview in the Wikipedia signpost just now, and I was wondering if you could help me out with a peer review of Wikipedia:Peer review/College Republicans/archive1? I am sure that you're busy, but I would greatly appreciate a peer review from someone so respected around here. Thanks!--Dr. Ivo Shandor (talk) 21:26, 22 September 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the review! I agree with all of your comments.--Dr. Ivo Shandor (talk) 04:33, 26 September 2008 (UTC)
I think I have improved the article considerably. I still have to work on the lead, the citations placement, the activities section, and the missing history. After those things are finished, how close do you think this is to a GA?--Dr. Ivo Shandor (talk) 00:27, 28 September 2008 (UTC)
Again, thanks for the Peer review. I want to nominate it for GA now. Can you close the Peer Review? All that remains in to get a free image, and I have sent permission requests to a few people on flickr.--Dr. Ivo Shandor (talk) 16:59, 28 September 2008 (UTC)

SAPR

Hello there. Sorry to cause another problem. When doing GA's and not Peer reviews, the GA wikiproject folks don't like the GA to consist of SAPR's, though IMHO they do show improvements which could also be done to the article. In the case of Omaha, there was a SAPR done a l-o-o-o-ng time ago, which is outdated, can a new SAPR replace, be added to or supplement the old one??? In the course of doing the GA, the ordering or timing I did things in found the old SAPR after I generated a new one. The peer review showed a SAPR at Omaha Nov 2007. In the future... I will check the article history timeline first before generating a new SAPR in the future, esp if peer reviews and SAPR's are related to each other. Oh my goodness! ...Kind Regards SriMesh | talk 04:59, 23 September 2008 (UTC)

Thanks

Dismal Swamp State Park

I am starting Dismal Swamp State Park tonight. Since topozone isn't free anylonger and I have yet to solve the ACME mapper and can't use it at work, could you look up the co-ordinates for the Dismal Swamp Canal Welcome Center? If you have time before I leave "work". Ready for Colton Point to go to PR yet? Have fun.--Dincher (talk) 23:01, 23 September 2008 (UTC)

I will check the pic question now. I remember seeing it this weekend and forgot about it. Thanks for the GNIS ref. Forgot about that one. Haven't been using these tools lately. Dincher (talk) 00:27, 24 September 2008 (UTC)
DYK idea...that George Washington called Dismal Swamp at "glorious paradise"? Any other ideas? Dincher (talk) 01:31, 24 September 2008 (UTC)
The nomination is in. Thanks! --Dincher (talk) 02:57, 24 September 2008 (UTC)

Great dispatch!

Wonderful interview! Hopefully you will pick up some peer reviewers from it! It was a cool idea to illustrate it with your photos, too. Awadewit (talk) 08:13, 24 September 2008 (UTC)

Yep. You're, like, totally, wiki-famous now!--IvoShandor (talk) 09:43, 24 September 2008 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Peer review/Rudolf Wanderone

Thanks for your comments there. User:Hag2 is doing a thorough copy-edit, and I'm sure the issues you've raised with either be fixed in that redrafting, or shortly thereafter. I did (at the review page) raise a question about IMDb; would be interested in your input on it. — SMcCandlish [talk] [cont] ‹(-¿-)› 20:50, 26 September 2008 (UTC)

Farthest South

I honestly can't remember whether you reviewed this at PR in July/Aug; I suspect you must at least have looked at it. Anyway, I've developed and expanded it since then, and sent it to FA. It's a change from my normal fare - I'd really value some feedback on it, if you have a momemt or two. Brianboulton (talk) 11:32, 27 September 2008 (UTC)

My RfA

Thank you for supporting me in my RfA, which passed with a count of (154/3/2). I appreciate the community's trust in me, and I will do my best to be sure it won't regret handing me the mop. I am honored by your trust and your support. Again, thank you. Happy editing! –Juliancolton Tropical Cyclone 17:57, 27 September 2008 (UTC)

Napoleon peer review

thanks very much, sorry for deleting your comments, i've only just seen Jaalang's reversion, i did a double-save by accident as i tried to pull it back to mark a minor edit and it potentially seemed to override an edit conflict which would be a bit weird. Anyway, i'll respond to your comments on the review page unless you prefer to handle things another way. thanks for confirming that as Nap is well known it should be well nailed down before wp:fac, it mainly serves to really bring it home to me that quite a bit more work will probably need to be done, Tom B (talk) 19:22, 27 September 2008 (UTC)

State forest natural areas

I am still thinking about the state forest natural areas. My thinking is that they should be part of the state forest article. Some of them could be daughter articles. I will look at Snyder-Middlewarth and the blueberry one now. Also repeated silliness at Plum, Pennsylvania made need an admins touch. Dincher (talk) 20:12, 28 September 2008 (UTC)

Thanks and thanks.Dincher (talk) 21:48, 28 September 2008 (UTC)

Colton Point PR

I'd be glad to. I should be able to get to that later today (Monday). Finetooth (talk) 21:25, 29 September 2008 (UTC)

I think Finetooth and Julian should be fine. They always do a nice job. The Colton info could go somewhere. A note should do the trick. The Steelers will have me off the computer tonight. Go for it if you wish. Dincher (talk) 00:23, 30 September 2008 (UTC)

Farthest South - Later history

300 pixels

Per your FAC comment, I have added a brief "Later history" section. I'd rather it not be any longer, for fear of losing the main theme of the article, which is the convergence on the pole, but I think the section makes a neat postscript. Would you mind checking it out?Brianboulton (talk) 14:53, 30 September 2008 (UTC)

I've just seen the outline map. I'm most grateful to you for doing this. It will need 13 different farthest south locations on it, and if these are properly described, e.g. "Nodal, February 1619", the quite small map will be overwhelmed with text. We could mark the successive farthest souths A, B, C etc, and reference them in the table? Would I have to let you know the required locations, or is there sufficient information in the table for you to do this? It seems an awful lot of trouble! Brianboulton (talk) 15:08, 30 September 2008 (UTC)
Let's keep the conversation here - I'll watchlist. Brianboulton (talk) 15:31, 30 September 2008 (UTC)
OK, I have two versions of the base map before dots: one with lines of latitude and longitude at Image:Antarctic farthest south map.png and one without at Image:Farthest south no lines map.png. Which one do you prefer? I also will need the latitude and longitude for each (except the south pole) and will use them and Google Earth to set the dots by hand. They will be a pretty good approximation, but not exact - is that OK? I agree letters are the way to go - red dots and letters seems best to me, is that OK too? Ruhrfisch ><>°° 16:11, 30 September 2008 (UTC)

Second map without lines preferred. Here are the latitudes and longitudes:-

  • Magellan 54°S, 71°W (approx, - longitude wasn't understood then)
  • Hoces and Drake both 55°59'S, 67°16'W (coordinates of Cape Horn)
  • Nodal 56°30'S, 68°44'W (coords of Diego Ramirez Is.)
  • Cook (1773) 66°20'S, 39°35'E
  • Cook (1774) 71°10'S 130°W
  • Weddell 74°15'S, 30°12'W
  • Ross (1841) 78°S, 164°W
  • Ross (1842) 78°10'S, 164°W (the 1841 & 1842 positions are so close that I think a single dot may have to do)
  • Borchgrevink 78°50'S, 162°W (also pretty close to Ross)
  • Scott 82°17'S 165°E
  • Shackleton 88°23'S, 162°E
  • Amundsen 90°

Again, many thanks for this help. Brianboulton (talk) 16:55, 30 September 2008 (UTC)

I have uploaded the map - may have to WP:BYC. I can make the letters a bit larger or a different color if needed. What do you think? Ruhrfisch ><>°° 10:29, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
The map looks wonderful. I have tested it in situ, next to the table. It looks great if it can be displayed in 300px, less good if it is thumbnail size. Can we display in 300px? Also, I'd like the reference letters in the table to be red also, but I don't know how to do this. Brianboulton (talk) 10:57, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
I made the letters in the table red and bold. I am fine with the map at 300 px - MOS Images allows fixed sizes for maps. I will let you put the map in and transfer it to Commons and delete it here. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 11:34, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
I was BOLD and added the map - feel free to tweak its position, caption, etc. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 12:10, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
The map and its positioning look just right. One very small thing: for the benefit of the geographically challenged, would it be possible to label in small characters the respective land masses "South America", "Africa" and "Australia"? Otherwise I'd say perfect, greatly enhancing to the article, and much appreciated. Brianboulton (talk) 13:15, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
Good idea - should I also label Antarctica? Ruhrfisch ><>°° 14:02, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
OK, it was easy to put labels in and I labeled all four continents - may have to WP:BYC to see the new map. Is this OK? If so I will move it Commons and delete it here - will probably also rename it to just "Farthest South map.png" but will wait for your OK before doing this. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 14:17, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
Well I think the map looks splendid now and couldn't be bettered. Let's hope the FAC reviewers will swoon with pleasure. I don't understand the WP:BYC move, so I'd say: do what you think needs to be done, it will be OK with me. Change the name by all means, it won't affect the image. Once again with grateful thanks, Brianboulton (talk) 16:06, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
I switched it to Commons and the name there is simpler Image:Farthest South map.png. Glad to help, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 18:01, 1 October 2008 (UTC)

Thanks

Thanks for doing the credits, Ruhrfisch. If you get a chance, can you leave me a note pointing me to where I can find instructions for giving out credits when I do the update to the Main Page? Thanks. Cbl62 (talk) 14:56, 30 September 2008 (UTC)

Thanks, and...

Hello! Thanks for the kind comments on my DYK for Strawberry Fields (2006 film). However, I noticed that one of those little "A fact from..." DYK boxes was not yet added to the discussion page for that article, or for the other articles that were cited in this DYK go-round. If it was an oversight, I wanted to call it to your attention. Cheers! Ecoleetage (talk) 15:30, 30 September 2008 (UTC)

DYK error

i had commented at, and was "watching", the New York State Route 146B article that is now up as DYK. i noted error previously in talk page and now also at wp:ERRORS. not sure if I should have been more forceful about the error before, or not. i thot i had raised the problem politely and adequately. Anyhow, perhaps you may want to address it. Thanks, doncram (talk) 17:27, 30 September 2008 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Peer review/Millennium '73/archive1

I think it might be helpful for you to revisit this peer review. It appears that after you commented and Will Beback (talk · contribs) addressed your points that the subsequent discussion has unfortunately degraded into a back-and-forth between editors involved in the article topic that haven't really given specific examples as to what to improve, the way you did in your initial comment. If you gave a comment about this that might help to either cease this non-constructive back-and-forth, and/or hopefully shift the discussion towards a positive dialogue about specific ways to further improve the article from its already high level of quality. Cheers, Cirt (talk) 17:51, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
