Welcome to my talk page. Please leave a message below and I will reply on your talk page. Please be aware that although my email is enabled, it is not an address I check often (so I may be slow in replying to email). Thanks and happy editing! Ruhrfisch 23:21, 10 May 2007 (UTC)

More about largest cities

Can the infobox be changed to read "largest village" instead of "largest city"? For example, look at Vinton County: McArthur definitely isn't a city. Nyttend 14:33, 11 May 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for arranging for this to be done! Nyttend 21:46, 16 May 2007 (UTC)

Sorry

It looks like I wasn't the first to talk to you. Oh well. I've been working on the settlement dates for lots of the places in PA. I started it and now I can't stop. Maybe I'll move onto Williamsport's history soon. I have a book by Van Auken that will be easy to use. Another project I have in mind is the Fort Fisher Hermit. I'll let you know when he is up and running. Have a good one, don't forget Mother's Day! Dincher 19:53, 11 May 2007 (UTC)

My book was published in 2003. The title is "Williamsport: Boomtown on the Susquehanna" by Van Auken and Hunsinger. It is part of the Making of America series. I bought it a few years ago on a trip home at Wegman's. Pre-wiki for me. I'd like to see the user box. Perhaps it's colors could be whatever your favorite colors are. The hermit info is here [1] I watched the documentary last night. It was very interesting. Dincher 02:10, 12 May 2007 (UTC)

I see you're working on the Woodchcuk. I am about to fall asleep at the desk here at Penney's. The hermit is coming along at User:Dincher/Hermit. Trying to stay awake. Dincher 01:50, 13 May 2007 (UTC)

About the ethnicity facts

Hi, Ruhrfisch! The "ethnicity facts" are taken from the same U.S. census (of the year 2000) as the percentages of people belonging to different races. In both cases (to use the terminology of the U.S. census: "ancestry" and "race" respectively), the numbers derive from how the respondents choose to describe themselves. A person might for instance answer the question about race as "White" and the question about ancestry as "Swedish". It is possible to give several answers (for instance: "Swedish and Finnish") to the question about ancestry, but one has to put them in an order of subjectively perceived importance. I used the figures for "First ancestry reported" and then simply counted the percentage. I placed in the articles only those figures which were at least 5%. Since I placed the figures about ancestry immediately after the figures about race and the Wikipedia text about race statistics in every case referred to the census of the year 2000, I thought that the reader would understand that the figures for ancestry derive from that same census and that it would be tautological to state once again that these figures, too, come from the census previously mentioned. In any case the figures are verifiable (to use the Wikipedia keyword) and any one wishing to check their accuracy can do so online and without cost at the database of the U.S. Census Bureau. Do you think that I should state expressly in each case that the figures for ancestry derive from the same census than those for race? I can do so, of course, but I have a feeling that it might look too much like a tautology... Otherwise: Keep up the good work. User:Monegasque 02:42, May 13, 2007

Lamira, Ohio

Thank you for answering my question regarding Lamira, Ohio. I have used the information you provided to update the article on Susanna M. Salter. --TommyBoy 06:24, 13 May 2007 (UTC)

Hermit

The Fort Fisher Hermit is ready. I have a DYK idea, ...that Robert Harrill, the Fort Fisher Hermit, received thousands of visitors every year at his bunker near Fort Fisher Recreation Area, where he spread his beliefs about "common sense". If it makes it, it will be my first non-PA DYK. Mighty Plumbing Mind note (I fixed the flushing mechanism on our toilet with a chain of paper clips!) Dincher 17:33, 13 May 2007 (UTC)

Did you see that Edith Bunker's picture finally got wiped off Caledonia State Park? =( Dincher 03:12, 15 May 2007 (UTC)

I am surprised the Edith made it as far as she did. She was even on a page that was DYK, I think. I will look at the Illinois parks tonight. Back at Penney's spreading tales of my plumbing genius. Thanks for looking at the hermit when you do. Dincher 20:13, 15 May 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for getting started on the hermit. I made a few quick changes. Off to bed. Good night! Dincher 03:27, 16 May 2007 (UTC)
Thanks again for editing the hermit. I am watching lots more pages now and am doing some vandalism reverts. Not much fun. But I've added lots of PA places to my watch list as I am adding their settlement dates. Dincher 19:24, 16 May 2007 (UTC)

The Fort Fisher Hermit made DYK today! Thanks for the copy edits. Now I need to get there and take a picture of his bunker. It still stands. Dincher 01:09, 18 May 2007 (UTC)

Illinois Parks

I know I have been slacking on stubbing them out. I will try soon here to finish them off. I have been so busy with things outside the Wikipedia. Just wanted to keep you informed. Thanks for all your hard work! Are you changing the dots to different colors for the other parks? Was curious.--Kranar drogin 00:14, 15 May 2007 (UTC)

"How about green dots for the four state forests (all done) and blue dots for the State Recreation Areas for now?" - I think this sounds great for colors. And, we might or might not have the room, but we will see what happens and cross that bridge when we get to it.--Kranar drogin 02:41, 15 May 2007 (UTC)
Ok, finally have time to finish stubbing them out. That is all my goal will be, is just to stub them, get that done. Later on people can flesh out the articles, cause I still need to finish up the townships. So, I have started with the Recreation Areas first.--Kranar drogin 02:13, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

I have them almost all done but the national one up at the top, which I will do today. Well, there is three up at the top. I will take care of them today, getting the infobox in two, and creating the article for the other. Soon as you can start hammering out the dots, that will be great. I still have to finish up that main list article too someday, but atleast I have these stubbed out for now!--Kranar drogin 22:15, 26 May 2007 (UTC)

I have added coordinates per [2]. So I would put it there. Yeah, it is huge, but that is the "Headquarters".--Kranar drogin 02:16, 4 June 2007 (UTC)
I think the map looks awesome. Even if it is a little busy, it really doesn't matter, long as you get the general idea of where they are, and actually gives the person a good idea where the most parks are for their "buck". You are doing an awesome job! I can't thank you enough.--Kranar drogin 23:21, 4 June 2007 (UTC)

Thank you

...once again! The congratulations should be going to you and all the people who helped to improve the article! I have been busy lately so I have not been able to contribute to WP. Again, thank you for all your tips and help along the way! LaSaltarella 03:47, 15 May 2007 (UTC)

Ross, Hepburn and Riots

I added a little bit about Michael Ross and William Hepburn. Could you take a look and fix what needs fixin'? I remember you saying something about some mistakes in the Historic Williamsport folks' info. Dincher 21:06, 15 May 2007 (UTC)

Well I added more for you too look at. I just wrote the Muncy Abolition Riot of 1842. There must be a DYK in it, unless it's too short. Perhaps...that 13 rioters convicted by a jury of their peers were pardoned for their actions in the Muncy Abolition Riot of 1842 by Pennsylvania Governor David R. Porter. What do you think? Dincher 23:31, 15 May 2007 (UTC)

I like the fishy. Pretty cool. Maybe I could make a picture that looks like false teeth=).Dincher 20:01, 16 May 2007 (UTC)

Bryn Mawr

I decided to deal with this by creating a separate infobox for the mailing address.

By the way, where can I find boundaries of the CDPs? Doesn't the census have that information? WhisperToMe 19:13, 17 May 2007 (UTC)

Re:

Thank you for your help on the OWU page. I noticed that you keep an eye with vandalism edits. It should make for an entertaining day. :-) Is there an easy way to minimize such edits? LaSaltarella 05:50, 18 May 2007 (UTC)

Tunnelhill

This place that I have never heard of until today has been an object of curiousity for me today. I have found a reference that points to it being in both Blair and Cambria Counties. So you'll have to restore the Blair County map. I included the Tunnelhill location reference at Tunnelhill. I'll try to fix the map myself. I'll let you know if I am successful.Dincher 03:43, 19 May 2007 (UTC) Failure. Can't edit a png file on a computer that doesn't have a paint program. Dincher 03:51, 19 May 2007 (UTC)

Confusion

Hi SwissCelt, there already is a page User talk:Appropriatusername, but I accidentally left the {{welcomeg}} template at Talk:Appropriatusername which is a talk page in article space (for a non-existent article named Appropriatusername, not a talk page in user space.

I then left the {{db-self}} template at the Talk:Appropriatusername page, which you have now reverted. I still want to speedy delete Talk:Appropriatusername and will leave the welcome template at User talk:Appropriatusername.

However, since I am frankly a bit confused about all this, please double check me and let me know if it is OK to delete the Talk:Appropriatusername page or not.

Thanks, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 18:08, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

Hmmm, I appear to have been snared in the same trap. It seems User:appropriatusername has been signing his or her posts as appropriatusername, leading me to believe that she or he has not yet established a user page (as seemingly indicated by the red link). I confess I did not check too carefully to ensure I was editing in user space rather than article main space. Go ahead and proceed with the speedy delete. And do it quick, as it's ensnared two of us thusfar. ;-) -- SwissCelt

Trick

I started up on the areas for some of the townships on the Woodchuck and ran into the same problem we had on the PA state parks. I remember that there is a "trick". What is it? Dincher 21:26, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

Thanks. The trick works for the areas that are greater than one square mile, but the areas that are less than one are showing at the top. I tried eliminating the zero for example 0.9 sq mi was changed to .9 sq mi. It didn't fix the problem. Do you know what to do now? Oh yeah the river info boxes look good. Dincher 22:41, 22 May 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for asking at the template talk. I should've thought of that. Now we wait. Dincher 00:42, 23 May 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for reverting the vandals. I've been reverting silly edits all across the PA articles and somebody in McKeesport isn't happy with me. I just reverted an edit to some township in Mifflin County that gave states on the average McGriddle consumption. That was pretty funny. =) Dincher 14:10, 26 May 2007 (UTC)

The work on the Frog looks very good. I am looking forward to it's completion. Dincher 16:10, 26 May 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for letting me know about the nts. Have a Happy Memorial Day! Dincher 04:48, 27 May 2007 (UTC)

Peter Herdic

Peter Herdic got created tonight. There must be a DYK. Too tired to think if it now. I have a picture for the info box on the computer at home. I'll work on the counties and rivers now. Dincher 00:57, 30 May 2007 (UTC)

Susquehanna

As a P.S. I did look up Sangerfield River - I couldn't find an area for it either, but it looks like it's about the same size as the other Chenango tribs listed. Kmusser 12:30, 30 May 2007 (UTC)

The template looks like it is good to go. Are you going to added it to all the streams on the template? What about the cities and counties? Is the template going there too? Thanks for the Herdic DYK idea. I just posted it. Dincher 19:45, 30 May 2007 (UTC)
The plans make sense to me. I'll be working on the Susquehanna Boom very soon. Dincher 21:06, 30 May 2007 (UTC)

Boom

You're welcome to co-author it. I'm glad for the help. I just started it. I'll work on it tonight. How do you want to split the work? I have a list of references. Do you want to work from the same list? I definetly think that you should handle the "numbers". The boom is absolutely fascinating. My Dad remembers when most of the cribs were still in the water, some still are. One of our family hunting cabins was constructed from logs salvaged from the booms. Heck Dincher and Dincher Tree Surgeons might have been the ones to fish the logs out. I'll have to ask my Dad. Dincher 21:24, 30 May 2007 (UTC)

All the refs should be up on Susquehanna Boom soon. I will work on it until 8:00. Waiting to see the pics. Dincher 21:35, 30 May 2007 (UTC)
Thanks, but I am stopping for now. I didn't write much about the reasons that the boom was built in relation to what getting the logs out of the river was like before the boom was in place. (Very dangerous). There is lots more to write, but I am done for today. I'll let you know when I plan to work on it again. Have a good night and have fun with the boom. Dincher 00:03, 31 May 2007 (UTC)

I won't be working on the Boom at all until Saturday. What do you think of it so far? I like the picture of the cribs, good memories of playing around those cribs. Dincher 21:14, 31 May 2007 (UTC)

The Boom made Williamsport, Williamsport. The DYK should say something about that. More sophisticated though. What about working it up to GA or more? If we nominate it now, I can get it pretty well update before it is posted on the main page. Dincher 03:18, 1 June 2007 (UTC)
I made a slight change, ...that the Susquehanna Boom on the West Branch Susquehanna River processed over 5.5 billion board feet of lumber from 1861 to 1891, which led to Williamsport, Pennsylvania having more millionaires per capita than any other city at the time? Good night. Dincher 03:37, 1 June 2007 (UTC)

One thing you may one to include is the Last Raft, which killed Montgomery's mayor. I live in Montgomery and we have numorous references in town about the log boom.

I just nominated the Boom for DYK and added you to Herdic for all the cool pictures I really like how the trees frame the buildings. I have not heard back about Herdic's churches. Dincher 19:02, 2 June 2007 (UTC) I have pretty much exhausted my resources on the boom. Looking forward to what you can add. Dincher 20:48, 2 June 2007 (UTC)

The Boom plan sounds like a good plan to me. The bit about the boom stretching to Jersey Shore comes from the Wurster reference and is a direct quote from a former Boom Rat. Perhaps the boom from Linden to Jersey Shore existed under a different name? Dincher 13:59, 3 June 2007 (UTC)

Congrats to you too. Thanks for the help again. Dincher 02:08, 5 June 2007 (UTC)

Beyond busy in my real life. Hopefully I'll get a break soon. Tons of School paperwork to do. I am very interested in seeing the penn pilot photos. Dincher 21:39, 7 June 2007 (UTC)

I really like the map and how it shows how the cribs helped to create islands. Perhaps this could be added to the article if it can be cited somewhere else. The common sense explanation for the creation of the islands just isn't good enough for wikipedia. The split map works much better for size reasons. I agree the bridge could just be a misplace bridge.. Dincher 21:22, 13 June 2007 (UTC)
That wide template is really cool. The picture works better because it is larger and is aligned properly as far as the cardinal directions are concerned. Cool find. Dincher 03:08, 25 June 2007 (UTC)

Flyin' Birds

It looks like the birds trip has been extended by thirty miles to Philadelphia. I used Market Square for Williamsport and City Hall for Philly and some place in downtown for Pittsburgh. I double checked. Philly is 131ish and Pittsburgh is 166ish. Dincher 03:11, 5 June 2007 (UTC) No problem. Dincher 03:19, 5 June 2007 (UTC)

All the boroughs should have border info and flying crow info too. I know I added it to all the municipalities in Lycoming County. I didn't add it to anything else. Dincher 20:04, 5 June 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for fixing what I left out in the Geography sections. I think you'll find that all of them along the river do not mention what is on the other side of the river. I just started the Pennsylvania Lumber Museum. I've got lumber on the brain. Dincher 20:47, 5 June 2007 (UTC)

Ruhrfisch, thanks for being so kind in your explanation. Two of those sites that I linked are mine (I do not profit from them however) but the rest were not. Admittedly however, I did edit the article with the goal of promoting my site. I thought this was permissable however, because I felt my edit added value to the article. But I was wrong. I am sorry.

I read the articles you referenced -- and you were right, the links don't conform to the standard principally because some were mine! I also understand that every Williamsport link would be innapropriate to list, but I do think some of the community websites would be helpful to list.

People looking up Williamsport in Wiki may be looking for historical or statistical information for research purposes or personal interest ... or they may be residents or visitors. From a practical application standpoint, I hope you'll consider reviewing the community website links yourself, and selecting any that you feel would help people to find more detailed and practical online information about Williamsport.

I'd also like to add links for public transportation and the chamber of commerce -- May I? --Billtown Blonde 21:28, 5 June 2007 (UTC)

TIMBERRRRR!!!

Do you think that the parts of the Pennsylvania Lumber Museum that are titled A brief history of the Lumber Industry in Pennsylvania should be moved to History of the Lumber Industry in Pennsylvania? Dincher 02:45, 6 June 2007 (UTC)

I agree there are lots of other areas that I will need to get into. I am going to leave it alone for now. Dincher 19:20, 6 June 2007 (UTC)
I didn't think that your previous comments were too harsh or negative. Don't worry about that. It's going to be a big project, to go with the other big projects that are in the works. List of Lycoming Municipalities, history of Williamsport, NC state parks (I got the book from the school library today), and God knows what else. At least I'll have something to do! Dincher 20:21, 6 June 2007 (UTC)

Well I have finished with added the settlement dates to all the boroughs, cities, the town and some of the townships of Pennsylvania, with few questions or revisions. Was this a necessary project? I doubt it, but I got started in Lycoming County and like Forrest Gump just kept on running with it. Have you started the Boom map yet? That was something I was going to request until I read that you had already thunk of it. Yes I wrote thunk on purpose. It's the past tense of think. Dincher 00:43, 7 June 2007 (UTC)

My watchlist now has 1,599 members. Seems like a nice number to stop at. I don't have them all on my list. Erie is well maintained as are Pittsburgh and Philly. There are a few others that I have dropped as well because others seem to have a more vested interest than I. I will slowly cull the list as I find that others are carefully watching a particular article. There's been lots of strange activity at Lewistown definetly not POV but not inaccurate. The mystery contributor is very persistent. I don't think I am going to worry about it right now. I'll let it pass for a while. Maybe they'll forget. Yes, mindless work on wiki can be very satisfying. I understand why some people like working in factories, you know what your job is, it doesn't change you get it done. Dincher 02:52, 7 June 2007 (UTC)

Clarification

Hello. Thank you for your consideration in warning me about the links that I was posting. I now understand that some of the links were inappropriately placed. I would just like to explain my purpose and see if I can clarify what kind of information would be acceptable to put on the pages.

As you stated, all of the works are scholarly and many are considered important works in their fields. Many of texts can be found online using the ISBN links or in a library. The Press website also often offers sample chapters and the table of contents for the books, which I thought would be useful. I think placing these books in the further reading category would be helpful, as people searching for more information on the topic would be led to very educational and respected works. I also would like to continue to update author’s pages with their new and upcoming works and modifying information about some of the books subjects.

I would like to hear back from you before I continue to do anything else. I am a new user and I have now read over the rules governing spam and external links, and I understand what I was doing. --Saz127 13:05, 7 June 2007 (UTC)

I am sure that you have seen my additions to Buchanan and Kittanning. They were an easy bit of work to do. Life's been interesting. I am glad to be back in wikipedia. I'll tell you more later. For now I must stay awake while on the job. Made the change to the PA template too. Dincher 00:10, 13 June 2007 (UTC)

I am looking forward to seeing the Boom Map. It's going to be pretty interesting. I got a picture of the crib the other day. When it is going to be devloped and on wiki, I have no idea. I noticed that the glorious Nittany Lion beat Larrys Creek and White Deer Hole Creek to the main page. That's the first time I wasn't disappointed with one of your articles not being the featured article. =) Dincher 01:24, 13 June 2007 (UTC)

There is no Beacon Street in South Williamsport. If it was west of Maynard Street it would probably be what is now Linden Street, I think, As for Goose Island, I am not sure if it is still in the river. My dad thinks that the island on the Duboistown side was created by the cribs. I am pretty sure that the cribs that are still there are in line with the island. There is a "gut" on the Duboistown side as well. The peninsula created by the gut and the river may be Goose Island. Both Larry and WDH are deserving. They both have strange names. I personally think that Larrys Creek is a bit more interesting. Perhaps this is because there are some many different places named White Deer .... in Lycoming County. Oh yeah the map link did not work. I wanted a username and password. Dincher 03:45, 13 June 2007 (UTC)

While working on Elk State Forest I ran into a problem with the template for the Susquehanna River. Sinnemahoning Creek is the specific problem. All of its tributaries connect to the article about Sinnemanhoning Creek instead of the creek itself for example Driftwood Branch goes straight to Sinnemahoning Creek. It this the way it is supposed to be? Dincher 00:10, 14 June 2007 (UTC) Never mind I see how it works now. Dincher 00:13, 14 June 2007 (UTC)

Robeson County

I made this template tonight. What do you think? Is it missing anything that you notice right away. I purposefully excluded the CDPs. Should they be there?

Dincher 05:58, 15 June 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for fixing the pipe issue. North Carolina doesn't have townships like the townships in PA. The county government administers the areas that are outside the cities and towns. The "townships" are more commonly known as "fire districts" each having their own volunteer fire dept and little else as far as "government." I'll add the CDPs now. Dincher 17:11, 15 June 2007 (UTC)
The Robeson County map looks really good. Go ahead and make as many as you would like to make. I have made templates for Cabarrus and Mecklenburg Counties per requests on the NC WikiProject talk page. I am going to make a Cumberland County template tonight. That's where Hope Mills is. I am going to have to read up on townships, CDPs, etc., in North Carolina. When you cross into a new township the sign at the line usually says Entering Britts Fire District. I have never seen a township sign. Dincher 04:13, 16 June 2007 (UTC)
You're right about the townships in NC. They can be annexed by the city whenever the city wants and the city can actually prevent a nearby CDP from incorporating! Fayetteville just took on a bunch of Cumberland County it would be like Williamsport just annexing Loyalsock without the people in Loyalsock agreeing to be annexed. Thanks again for the maps. I am being kicked off the computer by my darling wife! Dincher 17:32, 16 June 2007 (UTC)

I've created templates for Scotland, Bladen, Columbus and Richmond Counties, if you want to make maps for them, have fun! Dincher 18:07, 18 June 2007 (UTC)

Richmond County is green on purpose. That's the colors of the Richmond County High School. They take their football very seriously in Richmond County so I decided to make their map green. I am going to do most of them in red, but the counties that Duke, East Carolina, UNC and Wake Forest are in will reflect their school colors as well. Their is some controversy here in NC about the license plates, the lettering has been changed from Carolina blue to NC State Red. Silly. Dincher 14:09, 19 June 2007 (UTC)
Just did Alamance County, North Carolina per 5minutes request. Hope you're having fun! Dincher 14:37, 19 June 2007 (UTC)
Dinch, I'm not sure that using the colors of the schools is setting a good precedent. It seems like a subjective decision. Right from the start Robeson's color is based on a high school's color, while the other's you mentioned are all colleges. This to me opens the potential for exposing these maps to debates about other counties using colors for prominent schools, organizations, etc and debate as to which best represents a county. I think the best course of action is one that will continue to use the well established precedent for highlighting regions on a map in Wikipedia in red. VerruckteDan 01:02, 20 June 2007 (UTC)
I agree with Dan - I think the consistent use of one color is best as it meets Wikipedia:WikiProject Maps color suggestions and also avoids any possible POV concerns by picking one color associated with a school over another. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 10:26, 20 June 2007 (UTC)

Okay. The rest will be red. Dincher 17:36, 20 June 2007 (UTC)

Moore, Lee and Harnett Counties now have templates. Having fun? Dincher 20:25, 21 June 2007 (UTC)

Henderson, Transylvania and Jackson. Done, done and done. Templates that is. Honeymooned in that area. Very very nice I would love to live there. Dincher 21:22, 23 June 2007 (UTC)

Two questions

1. Do you have knowledge of the status of the automated peer review process?

2. I believe you must be expert with the locator dot function. I was considering using it in an image, but was not sure how goofy it would look. I was going to add a locator dot to the leftmost pic in 333 North Michigan or its appearance in Magnificent Mile. Are you familiar with locator dots used in this way. TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/tcfkaWCDbwincowtchatlotpsoplrttaDCLaM) 11:57, 16 June 2007 (UTC)

I missed the automated review at my Haystacks (Monet) peer review this week.
I will get back to you on the pictures on Monday.TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/tcfkaWCDbwincowtchatlotpsoplrttaDCLaM) 03:04, 17 June 2007 (UTC)
I should have mentioned that I have about 5 articles at WP:PR that will need automated reviews: Chicago Board of Trade Building, Chris Young (baseball pitcher), Paul Cornell (Chicago)/Paul Cornell (lawyer), Blackstone Hotel & Merle Reskin Theatre. I also have promised someone that I would review WP:FAC J. R. Richard after peer review. TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/tcfkaWCDbwincowtchatlotpsoplrttaDCLaM) 14:17, 17 June 2007 (UTC)
I think the image where the locater disappears when the image is selected is the better way to go. If people want to use the GDFL image they could for other purposes. What do you think. TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/tcfkaWCDbwincowtchatlotpsoplrttaDCLaM) 14:17, 17 June 2007 (UTC)

Geobox Settlement

In the category section, what would I place for an unincorporated area? Such as Chana, Illinois? Do you have any idea? I have a few to create, and I would rather do them right the first time rather than going back later. Thanks!--Kranar drogin 23:17, 16 June 2007 (UTC)

Hamlet it is then. I did a quick google in relation to Illinois, and a few items do show that they can be termed hamlets. When you drive through them, they just have a sign that says Unincorporated or something like that. Thanks for the suggestion.--Kranar drogin 02:29, 17 June 2007 (UTC)
Ok, I have stubbed out Sangchris Lake State Recreation Area for you. The dot is showing on there, but should be fixed when you have a chance. Thanks for your hard work, looks like you are half way!--Kranar drogin 02:15, 18 June 2007 (UTC)

Joseph Rothrock

I am working on Joseph Rothrock. It's time to leave work, I will have to finish it at home. I think there should be a DYK in it. What do you think? The maps are looking good. I really like how they show the strange boundaries of some of the cities and towns. Dincher 01:57, 17 June 2007 (UTC)

I just got a note from you. North Carolina has 100 counties! How about that?!!? Dincher 01:58, 17 June 2007 (UTC)
The nomination is in. Thanks for the help on the wording of the nomination. Could you look at it again when you get a chance?, making any changes you think need to be madeOnly 95 more North Carolina counties to go! Dincher 04:03, 17 June 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the copy edits and Happy Father's Day! I'll bet that you're in the woods somewhere. Dincher 17:54, 17 June 2007 (UTC)

Thanks. For the copy edits and the maps. Only 81 to go! Rutherford County is waiting a map. That'll be it for today. Dincher 01:47, 23 June 2007 (UTC)

Feeling antsy?

I found Morven in Anson County. Dincher Union County, North Carolina is up and running too. Ironic name. 23:41, 21 June 2007 (UTC)

I added Brunswick, Carterer, Craven Jones, Onslow, New Hanover, Pender and Duplin County templates this weekend. Moved out of the mountains and towards the beaches. Dincher 23:02, 1 July 2007 (UTC)
Johnston, Wayne, Wake, Chatham, and Lenoir. Dincher 03:04, 3 July 2007 (UTC)

Linden Bridge

That bridge was on the original main line of the Sunbury and Erie Railroad, later the Philadelphia and Erie Railroad. According to Chris Baer's chronology, the line from Williamsport to Lock Haven was opened on July 1 1859, so it was probably built in 1858 or '59. Best, Choess 15:06, 22 June 2007 (UTC)

I like the vertical map. It's much better to see the whole thing as one piece. Good change. Macon, Clay and Cherokee are done Dincher 04:33, 24 June 2007 (UTC)

Tionesta Creek

I added an image to this article, I have tons of others, mostly I haven't uploaded them to the Commons yet, but there are a couple in my Pennsylvania galleries. I have images of a number of streams within ANF that don't have articles yet, I may be able to stub them out eventually. I will post them here in case you are interested. I will add an image to Kinzua Creek too, I have several. Interestingly, I have several images of Kinzua Bridge State Park (albeit they would need to be scanned but I can do that) before the bridge got blown away by a tornado (btw if you haven't read that PA DCNR report on that incident and its attached witness statements you should, it is quite an interesting read)

I will add others if I think of them. Happy editing. IvoShandor 07:21, 23 June 2007 (UTC)

Darn shame, really. The view from the middle of the bridge was awe-inspiring (unfortunately I didn't get to experience it in autumn, which I hear is when it is utterly amazing), but I did get to cross it. I will see what other photos I have around here of that area. I should have Kinzua Dam, Allegheny Reservoir, countless images of the Allegheny National Forest, numerous streams and creeks within the Kinzua/Tionesta (and ultimately the Allegheny watershed. I have a lot of photos from PA, I have a slew from Pittsburgh. About ¾ of the images are digital, others need to be scanned still. Let me know if you have a list of streams and rivers that need stubbed out or worked on, I may be able to lend some assistance sometime. Did you read the witness statements? I thought it was an interesting cross section, which spoke volumes about the individuals who wrote them, the kind of stuff historians absolutely love. IvoShandor 06:15, 25 June 2007 (UTC)

North Carolina Tribes

You are not the only one who is confused when it comes to the Indain tribes in North Carolina. It is correct that the Eastern Band of the Cherokee are the only "official" tribe in the state. So I believe that you are correct in including their reservations on the maps and exluding the others. The Lumbee tribe is dominant in Robeson County, politically and culturally. But they have not been recognized. The history is long and confusing and Nathalie's family is part of it. Anyway the maps look good and wiki does work at work. Dincher 20:15, 26 June 2007 (UTC)

I just caught up with you. 33 Dincher 04:34, 27 June 2007 (UTC)

Williamsport

I posted the History of Williamsport last night and another user, Jreferee saw it and suggested I nominate it for DYK. I did and you can check the wording at the usual spot. Do you have a picture that you want to include with the nom and possibly make DYK? Safe travels. Dincher 20:58, 27 June 2007 (UTC)

Yak skiing is now the funniest thing I have ever read on wikipedia. It really needs a picture! Thanks for the congrats. Williamsport's infobox needs a picture of the skyline. Safe return. Dincher 03:47, 2 July 2007 (UTC)
Daniel Hughes made DYK today. I think that it is very appropriate that he will be featured on Independence Day (United States). A terrific coincidence. I think that I am proudest of this article. Dincher 00:34, 4 July 2007 (UTC)
What do you think about making a map of the river showing the stretch of river that Hughes used? This would show miles, cities and towns passed, etc., I asked V-Dan about commons. I'll ask you to read it too, but will just leave it there on his talk page. And thanks for the congrats. Dincher 01:29, 4 July 2007 (UTC)
I added your pic of the Weightman block to the Williamsport infobox. Thanks for the maps. Happy 4th! Dincher 21:23, 4 July 2007 (UTC)
Your ideas for the Hughes map should be pretty good. Maybe include Muncy, since it was home to some Quakers. I am not sure about the exact mileage either. Maybe that question will be answered as the project is be worked on. When I get time I'll post my maps over to commons as you know I have already included some. 4th was good. Had to work then went to the in-laws. Dincher 04:32, 5 July 2007 (UTC)

Prominent Residents?

I left this message on the discussion page for the article "Allegheny County, Pennsylvania" but didn't see any follow-up:

I think the heading "Prominent Residents" is misleading. Actually, it should be "Prominent Natives and Residents" for Allegheny County (I made that change in the article), since a resident is reasonably construed as someone who currently resides there -- unless it says "Past Residents."

In the case of articles for individual municipalities, I'm confident that anyone prominent who came out of any of those little Western Pa. farm and steel towns did not remain a resident past high school. Thus, the heading there should be "Prominent Natives."

Finally, if there's a heading in the county article for prominent natives, would it not be necessary to collect that information from the articles for all the municipalities (including Pittsburgh) and include it? Seems like a formidable task that probably isn't very important at the county level.

As for me, I was born and raised in Clairton, south of Pittsburgh, and had a history with Westinghouse, so I've been reviewing articles on those and related topics.--NameThatWorks 15:33, 28 June 2007 (UTC)

Prominent Residents 2

Thanks for the response. I think "Notable Natives" is the best choice for all pages, since it avoids the issue of current residency. You didn't address the rest of the concern, however. Why list notable natives at the county level if you are not going to include all the notable natives from all the municipal articles within the county? Are there levels of notability that qualify for city, county, or state articles? Just wondered. —Preceding unsigned comment added by NameThatWorks (talkcontribs) 03:25, June 30, 2007

More on Notable Residents

OK, I understand your point. However, it seems as though someone like Andy Warhol would be listed as a notable native of Pittsburgh (Greater Pittsburgh Area or Pittsburgh Metropolitan Area), rather than Allegheny County. It's fair to say that Buchanan was the only president from Pennsylvania, but it's more likely that someone would find it interesting that Warhol is from "Pittsburgh" and not from Allegheny County. I don't think many folks know that Pittsburgh is not a county of its own.

I'll stand down now. It's your call. --NameThatWorks 04:59, 2 July 2007 (UTC)

Unclear Clarification

Hmm. This is where I'm really getting confused. In your most recent message, you say that you "would not have a notable native section in a county or especially a state article." However, in the article "Allegheny County, Pennsylvania" there is a notable native section near the bottom, which lists Andy Warhol and Dan Marino. As I said, either of those gentlemen might be mentioned in the context of being from Pittsburgh -- but probably not Allegheny County. Perhaps in more rural areas it might be appropriate to say that a person is from Bucks County, but I wouldn't do the same for Allegheny County. --NameThatWorks 20:41, 5 July 2007 (UTC)

Auto PR

Can you make sure J. R. Richard gets an auto PR before its PR closes. --TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/tcfkaWCDbwincowtchatlotpsoplrttaDCLaM) 05:49, 30 June 2007 (UTC)

Can the script be made available for personal use on my own page creations. Also, does WP:PR need additional persons to run the script for it?--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/tcfkaWCDbwincowtchatlotpsoplrttaDCLaM) 14:08, 2 July 2007 (UTC)
Can you tell what is wrong with my script at User:TonyTheTiger/monobook.js? It does not seem to be prompting me for auto peerreview.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/tcfkaWCDbwincowtchatlotpsoplrttaDCLaM) 15:24, 7 July 2007 (UTC)

Wiki Guideline Question

Hey Ruhrfisch, I have a question I wanted to run by you. I seem to remember reading a Wikipedia policy or guideline that stated someone should not edit a page with no reason other than to improve the speed of the wikipedia servers. Are you familiar with such a statement, and if so do you know where I can find it? Thanks. VerruckteDan 23:53, 30 June 2007 (UTC)

Uploading Multiple Images

I finished locator maps for all of the municipalities in Allegheny County (see Aspinwall, Pennsylvania for a sample), but I don't know the best way to upload them. Is there a way to batch upload images to Wikimedia Commons? I downloaded a program called Wikimedia Commonplace and it seemed like my images all uploaded, but I didn't see them when I tried searching for the on Wikimedia Commons. Also, User:Verruckte Dan commented that I should use a more distinct naming convention for the municipal maps, something like Map of Allegheny County highlighting <municipality name>. Any ideas how to change the names of 130 images quickly? Thanks, Skeetidot 21:09, 4 July 2007 (UTC)

State Capital Cities

I just modified this template. Do you see any mistakes? Or have a recommendation about how it looks? I changed it from just listing the state name, which made little sense to me, to showing the city name and the postal abbreviation for the state. Dincher 21:09, 5 July 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for checking the capitals. I corrected the Juneau redirect. Now we are up to 56 NC counties. I added Wilson, Vance, Warren, Hyde, Franklin and Nash. Oh yeah, NOW I understand the point in loading up on commons. The light was turned on. =) Dincher 18:49, 6 July 2007 (UTC)
Granville and Person Counties are done. Person County High School has the largest high school marching band I have ever seen. It looked like a major college marching band. Dincher 04:07, 7 July 2007 (UTC)
Orange County, I really wanted to make it orange =( is done so are Durham County, Rockingham County, Caswell County, Randolph County, Davidson County, and Guilford. This should get you closer to the big 1000! Dincher 17:52, 7 July 2007 (UTC)
Somebody has beat me to the punch on a few templates, thankfully, Surry, Yadkin, Forsyth were up and running I just changed the map. Also completed Stokes, Wilkes and Alleghany. Dincher 20:01, 9 July 2007 (UTC)

New York Locator Map

Ruhrfisch, another user has begun to place the Geobox template on New York state municipal articles. Would you be able to make a NY Locator map in the near future so it can be incorporated into theses articles? Thanks. VerruckteDan 15:33, 7 July 2007 (UTC)

Ruhrfisch, there's a small error on the NY map. Staten Island is colored as part of New Jersey and Manhattan is colored as water. Thanks. VerruckteDan 02:08, 9 July 2007 (UTC)

Commonist

Commonist works! Thanks, Ruhrfisch! You can see my uploads here. Hopefully they won't be deleted until I have the chance to get them all added to their municipality articles! Skeetidot 17:53, 7 July 2007 (UTC)

Beaufort County, NC

Hey Ruhrfisch, the blue for the water on the Bueafort County highlighted map Image:North Carolina Map Highlighting Beaufort County.PNG is the wrong shade. Thanks. VerruckteDan 23:38, 7 July 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for fixing the color! Mistakes happen when the user is color blind. Dincher 04:49, 8 July 2007 (UTC)

New York locator map

Thanks. Sounds great. Since I'm still learning how to use images and the geobox, could you give me an example of how to use it? Maybe you could add it to the geobox in the Pittsford (town), New York article? Truthanado 04:56, 8 July 2007 (UTC)

My emulation of White Deer Hole Creek

A long time ago, when I was congratulating you on that article, I told you how I saw it as a model, eventually, for Moodna Creek, a similarly short but locally important tributary of the Hudson. Well, as you can see, I created the article and got it on DYK (and I got pictures of both the source and mouth in there :-). Have you been able to hike up to the WDHC source yet?)

Anyway, just thought you might want to be able to see what your work inspired. I see, in the near term, a potentially for a GA nom at least. Daniel Case 18:43, 8 July 2007 (UTC)

Colors

Thanks for the link to the article about colors. It was pretty interesting. I really don't think that color blind is the right word for me. It's more like color confused. For example. I have 50/50 shot of identifying blue or purple, can't see red on green or green on red, or so I have been told. Here is a silly question about orange. Which came first, orange (colour), orange (fruit) or one of those Orange nobles in Europe? Well I didn't look before I linked it the answer is in the articles. More county nave boxes soon. The New York Locator Map is cool. Might I suggest another locator map for the New City Metro Area? Dincher 04:02, 9 July 2007 (UTC)

Eighty

Well we have completed 80 NC counties so far! Just 20 to go! Dincher 05:24, 11 July 2007 (UTC)

Thanks again for all the maps and for telling me about the Burke County mistake. I fixed it. I'll finish the rest of the nave boxes soon, hopefully. School starts back next week!! Ohhh Noooo! Dincher 20:48, 11 July 2007 (UTC)
