Newsletters
Hi, thanks for the update, but could you please consider sending the newsletters as collapsible templates like, in the way that most other projects do? (I have made the suggestion before). Thanks.--Kudpung (talk) 00:49, 16 August 2010 (UTC) |}
- I will bring this up with the organizing team, but unlike other projects, we do not send out many newsletters, only when we have a drive. The newsletter does act as a kind of small advert for others who may visit a member's page. Therefore, there is a preference for it to be seen and not hidden. But I will ask the team to consider this. If it is causing you problems, you can collapse it yourself or just delete it. Cheers. - S Masters (talk) 03:09, 16 August 2010 (UTC)
- I only brought this up because although my project only sends about 2 newsletters a year, but the first one I sent (it wasn't collapsed), I received a dozen complaints. After having long messages from GOCE placed by bots (sometimes even duplicated) on my talk page, I can see their point of view.--Kudpung (talk) 03:35, 16 August 2010 (UTC)
- So far, I am unaware of any complaints. Probably because as copyeditors, we love copy! :-) But I will discuss it with the team. Thanks for your feedback. - S Masters (talk) 04:17, 16 August 2010 (UTC)
- No, you probably haven't had any complaints, but you know how touchy some people can be. I must have been unlucky and sent my newsletter to a bunch of particularly touchy§ ones ;) --Kudpung (talk) 05:51, 16 August 2010 (UTC)

Belated note
I don't think I told you I quick failed/delisted the article on The First Flight, which you had promoted to GA class. We discussed my strong doubts about it quite some time ago. Regards Hekerui (talk) 21:32, 16 August 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks for letting me know. At the time, it appeared to fulfill the conditions required for a GA, however, things can change and it can be demoted if appropriate. Cheers. - S Masters (talk) 07:20, 18 August 2010 (UTC)

Ocean Shores has resigned
Ocean Shores, lead spot checker, has resigned. Please visit the talk page of the September 2010 GOCE Backlog elimination drive and help me work out who will replace Ocean Shores as our lead spot checker. The Raptor You rang?/My mistakes; I mean, er, contributions 17:10, 17 August 2010 (UTC)
- We never really had this position before, so I guess we will just revert to what we were doing before, unless someone wants to do this job. I know that we did a lot more checking with the first drive but we mainly assumed good faith for the last drive. We could carve this up between all the coordinators and do it randomly. 10% for each person is really a lot of work. - S Masters (talk) 03:41, 18 August 2010 (UTC)
- I think you really just need to check each participant twice. Problem participants should then be watched more closely. ɳorɑfʈ Talk! 04:38, 18 August 2010 (UTC)
- Yes, I agree. - S Masters (talk) 04:40, 18 August 2010 (UTC)

Thanks from the GOCE
Thank you very much for signing up for the Guild of Copy Editors' September Backlog Elimination Drive! The copyedit backlog stretches back two years, to the summer of 2008! We're going to need all the help we can muster to reduce the backlog to a manageable size. We've set a goal of clearing all of 2008 from the backlog, and getting the total under 5000. To do that, we're going to need more participants. Please invite anyone you can to join the drive! Once again, thanks for your support! If you have any questions, contact one of our coordinators—ɳorɑfʈ Talk!, The Raptor You rang?, or SMasters (Talk). |

Goodbye and resignation
I am retiring because I have a lot to work on in real life. Due to this I must also resign from my position as co-coordinator. I understand if you're frustrated; we've already had one user leave. But I just want to let you know, retiring from Wikipedia is one of the hardest decisions I have ever made. I've been thinking about retiring since the beginning of this month, in fact. I might return next summer, but I might not. Until that date, goodbye. The Raptor You rang?/My mistakes; I mean, er, contributions 13:46, 28 August 2010 (UTC)
- I'm sorry to see you go, but it's important to sort out one's priorities in life, so I completely understand. All the very best in everything, and do come and say hi when/if you're back. Cheers. - S Masters (talk) 16:07, 28 August 2010 (UTC)
Wikify Drive
Since you signed up for the September 2010 GOCE event, I wanted to invite you to participate in a similar event: the September 2010 Wikification Backlog Elimination Drive. In case you didn't know, "Wikification" is the process of formatting articles using Wiki markup (as opposed to plain text or HTML) and adding internal links to material. Barnstars will be awarded to participating editors. Thanks!

Copy editing award?
WP:REWARD says to contact you for a reward for helping clear up the backlog. By my count, I've cleared 32 48 articles since August 16. How about a little love? :) // Macwhiz (talk) 17:39, 29 August 2010 (UTC)
- Can you please provide me with the names/links of the articles? The articles must come from the Request Page of the GOCE or they must have the copyedit tag on the article, and you should have copyedited it to a stage when you can remove the tag. If you have done this, then it will count. In addition, you might be interested in joining the GOCE's September Backlog Elimination Drive. Lots of barnstars there up for grabs. Look forward to receiveing your list of articles. Cheers and thanks for all your hard work! - S Masters (talk) 03:01, 30 August 2010 (UTC)
- Sure, here you go:
