DYK for KDCD-TV
On 19 April 2024, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article KDCD-TV, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the planned sale of a Texas TV station was the subject of a lawsuit more than seven years after it closed for the last time? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/KDCD-TV. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, KDCD-TV), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.
Hits Radio (UK)
With reference to the 2021 RfC on the Greatest Hits Radio station rollup, I note that the same thing is now happening with various Bauer CHR/Hot AC stations being rolled up into the Hits Radio brand. Someone enthusiastic is already going around moving these to the Hits Radio titles, e.g. Hits Radio Staffordshire & Cheshire rather than Signal 1. I'd support the same thing as happened with Greatest Hits - i.e. the scope of these station articles stopping at the point of the Hits Radio rebrand, to preserve the history of each unique station. I don't, however, know how to do an RfC so would appreciate any assistance! Flip Format (talk) 11:37, 13 April 2024 (UTC)
- @Flip Format The problem I am having with applying this consensus is that the GHR rollup led to the axing of a lot of local programming. This rollup is not doing that. Is that a correct assessment? Sammi Brie (she/her • t • c) 06:31, 14 April 2024 (UTC)
- As far as I'm aware, and I'd defer to those who are more enthusiastic about the Bauer-verse on this, there are no changes to programming at these stations at this time, it's just a change of branding. However, the stations have already had most of their local programming removed - all except a single morning show, and not even that in some cases where even that show is now shared (e.g. in the case of Radio City (Liverpool) and Rock FM). I'm not sure that these stations in their current state are worthy of articles - but their previous incarnations certainly are.
- My preference would be for the articles to primarily discuss the stations as they were and their histories, including some very significant stations such as Radio City, rather than to focus on their dying few months where they are mostly functioning as network relays. For many of these stations, there is enough material out there to produce separate articles on, for instance, Radio City as a local station (1974-2024, when it lost its local morning show) and Hits Radio Liverpool, which might be an acceptable compromise.
- A complicating factor is that there are changes to regulation coming down the line within the next 12 months which will permit stations to drop even the single local/regional show that is currently being broadcast - once that happens, these stations will probably be subsumed entirely into a single Hits Radio program. There are people out there who seem very enthusiastic about the Bauer changes, to the point of moving these articles to new titles even prior to the re-brand, but I'm keen that we don't lose the stations' histories. Flip Format (talk) 09:12, 14 April 2024 (UTC)
- @Flip Format The name change might be as good a time as any to establish the cutoff then. I would argue that given the limited local output post-name change, "Hits Radio Liverpool" (for instance) as an entity is not standalone notable, especially, if it's likely that a national breakfast show will soon be permissible. I know that in the last couple of years, Newspapers.com through WP:TWL has increased its UK holdings, which might make it useful to write the pre-internet histories of a lot of these stations. Sammi Brie (she/her • t • c) 21:30, 14 April 2024 (UTC)
- I'd agree that there should be a cutoff at the point where these stations re-name themselves, which I believe is this week. Radio City, for instance, is clearly notable on its own as the main commercial radio station in Liverpool for 50 years, without needing to be attached to an article about whatever is currently on 96.7. There can then be a general article about the Hits Radio network, with mentions of the local morning shows - I don't believe this network produces enough local programming to make the individual stations notable. I don't know, however, how to action that in the context of other editors going around moving articles to "Hits Radio [area X]" names and subsuming the often lengthy histories of these stations into articles about needle-waggling Hits network stations.
- I have access to the Entertainment Industry Magazine Archive via ProQuest, I'm not sure if this is included in TWL. It mostly deals with TV and movie topics, but has a good archive of Broadcast (magazine) from 1960-2000 which has reasonable radio industry coverage for much of the histories of these stations. I also have access to LexisNexis which has good national newspaper archives for the UK, but what I'm missing is local/regional press, which is where a lot of stories about these stations will exist. Flip Format (talk) 10:37, 15 April 2024 (UTC)
- You are probably talking to the only other person on the project who has access to this ProQuest module (which is not in TWL), Flip Format, but for its very valuable US publications (a shadow library has Broadcasting quite complete, but no Variety or Hollywood Reporter; conversely, ProQuest's Radio & Records run is kind of terrible). I wonder if I might actually be the single largest user of ProQuest IDs on the encyclopedia. I feel like Newspapers.com is rapidly taking in a lot of UK publications, especially in recent months; it might be worth your time to learn how to clip from it as it is available through WP:TWL. I am simultaneously putting a post in WT:WPRS to get the ball moving. I am a little tied up with some RL projects and my US TV station work. Sammi Brie (she/her • t • c) 05:45, 21 April 2024 (UTC)

- @Sammi Brie I could not find much info on promotion, aside from Swayze going on The Tonight Show to promote it, but that seems pretty standard for actors promoting their movies so I didn't include it. I also added a few lines to Filming about the director being pregnant while filming and Spielberg offering to step in at one point, but if it sounds too much like IMDb trivia, I can delete it. Also added images of the actors in the Reception section. Spectrallights (talk) 22:45, 5 May 2024 (UTC)

Thank you! - Today's TFA, Felix M. Warburg House, was written by Vami_IV and Epicgenius, introduced: "This article is about another of the great houses that once lined Fifth Avenue in New York. Specifically, this is the mansion of Felix M. Warburg, a Jewish financier who ignored fears of anti-Semitic reprisal to his decided to build himself a big Gothic manor in the middle of New York City. Although the Warburgs no longer remain, their legacy does: the museum is now the home of the Jewish Museum (Manhattan) and the building largely survives as they left it. Kansas City Spanish TV Stations
Hello, so I has a question about KGKC-LD and KUKC-LD, the Spanish-language television stations in Kansas City. Is there any sources available for the stations? Because I would expect, that while it may be difficult than say, KMBC, or KSMO, KUKC-LD and KGKC-LD has the potential of some WP:GNG. (Also, I'm really bad at putting sources, so yea...) mer764KCTV5 / Cospaw (He/Him | Talk • Contributions) 00:12, 12 June 2024 (UTC)
- Each has issues. KGKC is very recent, but it's a station that requires research simply because it is a Telemundo affiliate. KUKC has some material, but its pre-Univision on-air history is a giant question mark aside from one 1998 article that only muddies the water further. I do have a KUKC question you might be able to answer, @Mer764Wiki. The Bridge News sale did not include the Univision agreement. Are they no longer broadcasting Univision now that Bridge owns them? Sammi Brie (she/her • t • c) 00:36, 12 June 2024 (UTC)
- KGKC-LD is yes, pretty recent but the Telemundo can get into some GNG. KUKC, However, is an whole different story altogether. Also, I don't think it's airing Univision, anymore. It's probably airing NewsNet now, since it is owned by Bridge News now. (Even then, it needs an updated article, KUKC-LD's article was last updated 5 months ago.) mer764KCTV5 / Cospaw (He/Him | Talk • Contributions) 00:44, 12 June 2024 (UTC)
- @Mer764Wiki Is it possible to check, please? Sammi Brie (she/her • t • c) 00:46, 12 June 2024 (UTC)
- I checked on the article on KUKC and online and there's a small mention on NorthPine for the sale of KUKC and WUMN-LD, its sister station in Minneapolis–Saint Paul, Minnesota. It mostly focused on WUMN but it mentions KUKC. ([1]) mer764KCTV5 / Cospaw (He/Him | Talk • Contributions) 01:04, 12 June 2024 (UTC)
- I was hoping you could see the station over-the-air, @Mer764Wiki. Sammi Brie (she/her • t • c) 01:40, 12 June 2024 (UTC)

KQTV, KMBC and Bing Crosby??
Okay, so this is actually kinda weird. So according to the article for KQTV in St. Joesph, "Midland Broadcasting was headed by singer-actor Bing Crosby and previously owned KMBC-TV in Kansas City", which is weird because unless the in the Northwest (KPTV in the 1950s and KXLY-TV for a few months with someone else), or in L.A. (Formerly owned KCOP-TV, also in the 1950s), I don't think he had a role in owning stations, definitely not in Kansas.
But I was looking at the article for KFRM in Salina, Kansas, and it said that Midland Broadcasting (who owned the station and KMBC-AM-TV was founded by Arthur B. Church, before he sold them off the the Cook Paint and Varnish Company in 1954.
So I have an question, who really ran Midland Broadcasting, Bing Crosby or Arthur B. Church? mer764KCTV5 / Cospaw (He/Him | Talk • Contributions) 00:06, 13 June 2024 (UTC)
- @Mer764Wiki Well, it's Bing, but they didn't own KMBC-TV. The owners owned a station in Miami, Oklahoma, and were Crosby, Kenyon Brown, and George L. Coleman. They purchased the KFEQ stations for $700,000 in 1955. I've fixed the article to add a citation on this. Sammi Brie (she/her • t • c) 00:21, 13 June 2024 (UTC)
- Huh, interesting. I guess the St. Joesph/KQTV Midland Broadcasting Company is different from the Salina, Kansas–Kansas City, Missouri/KMBC Midland Broadcasting Company. mer764KCTV5 / Cospaw (He/Him | Talk • Contributions) 01:39, 13 June 2024 (UTC)

Your recent revert to WSNS-TV is unacceptable
"Essaness Theaters" on its own is too cryptic of an explanation for this station's callsign, and there is no article on Essaness Theaters that gives a clearer explanation for that name. -- Denelson83 19:39, 2 July 2024 (UTC)
- @Denelson83 I instead went for a footnote. Essaness Theatres is a redirect, but I also see it as Theaters in some non-WSNS-related sources. It likely is a candidate for an article. One note: while many articles are still un-updated, bolding pieces of acronyms to spell them out is against the Manual of Style at MOS:ACRO. Sammi Brie (she/her • t • c) 19:56, 2 July 2024 (UTC)

But also appreciation! I don't think said anything at the time—completely ignorantly—and promptly forgot. But I never thanked you for reviewing and cleaning up a GA of mine ages ago. That went beyond the call of duty, and represents the spirit of Wikipedia distilled. Thanks ever so much! ——Serial Number 54129 14:59, 21 July 2024 (UTC) |
- I appreciate it a lot, @Serial Number 54129. Clearly you had not expected to have your article reviewed while you were out on wikibreak, and I figured this would just sit too long if not done. Sammi Brie (she/her • t • c) 15:05, 21 July 2024 (UTC)
