Just a heads that I've declined the speedy deletion nomination of Jotun Ibérica. Please note that G1 does not apply to material that is not in English. Rollback

edit

I have granted rollback rights to your account; the reason for this is that after a review of some of your contributions, I believe I can trust you to use rollback correctly by using it for its intended usage of reverting vandalism, and that you will not abuse it by reverting good-faith edits or to revert-war. For information on rollback, see Wikipedia:New admin school/Rollback and Wikipedia:Rollback feature. If you do not want rollback, just let me know, and I'll remove it. Good luck and thanks. –Juliancolton | Talk 05:08, 4 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hi, SpaceFlight89. Although it's not a rule and is not compulsory, it would be best if you can provide an edit summary for edits like this. Since it's a removal of another editor's comment and a new contributor will find it hard to understand why you did it, it's best if you can explain you reasons for it briefly. Cheers. Whacking with a wet trout or trouting is a common practice on Wikipedia when experienced editors slip up and make a silly mistake. It, along with sentencing to the village stocks, is used to resolve one-off instances of seemingly silly behavior amongst normally constructive community members, as opposed to long term patterns of disruptive edits, which earn warnings and blocks.

Example

edit

Whack!
The above is a WikiTrout (Oncorhynchus macrowikipediensis), used to make subtle adjustments to the clue levels of experienced Wikipedians.
To whack a user with a wet trout, simply place {{trout}} on their talk page.

If you simply blank an inappropriate page, it stays there in the edit history. If you tag it for speedy deletion (as vandalism, as an attack page, as a non-notable person)the creator gets a warning and shortly thereafter an administrator will likely delete it. In cases of vandalism or the posting of inappropriate content, a warning should always go on the offender's talk page. It ratchets them towards getting blocked. Merely blanking gives them a pass to continue the conduct. Thanks. Edison (talk) 17:43, 14 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

UW-Vandalism templates

edit

Hi SpaceFlight, I appreciate your combat against vandalism, but I would urge you to be a bit more wary when issuing "final warnings" to editors. This one, even though it came after an earlier warning, is too harsh--jumping from 1 to 4 is probably not the best assessment of the havoc wreaked by the IP (who only made two edits anyway). Also, I would urge you not to replace an older warning by another editor with a new one, since that makes it harder for editors and administrators to see quickly what damage was done and if and how the user has been warned (I had to go through the history to find User:Black-Velvet's earlier warning). Thanks, and keep up the good work, Drmies (talk) 16:05, 22 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Sorry I don't know why huggle removed Black-Velvet's warning, may be an edit conflict—SpaceFlight89 16:07, 22 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hi,

I added an external link to a page that you deleted. The relevant Wiki page was Depression.

The link was to a pdf on Depression in the site bio-identical-testosterone.com.

The link went directly to the pdf so the site was not displayed (there is a guidleline about links to commercial sites but this goes to the pdf not the site so the site is invissible to anyone clicking the link which I think is okay with the guidelines) and the content of the pdf is very relevant.

The site actually has a great number of other pdfs on a whole lot of medical conditions and I thought they would be useful to Wiki visitors under the various medical conditions they mention.

Can you please help me understand how these links are determined to be spam?

Thanks, Doreen. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Bridgey D (talkcontribs) 10:05, 27 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Young Republicans

edit

Thanks for jumping in to help with this article; looks like we're dealing with one or more people on a Sprint PCS card with an clear axe to grind and just enough grasp of Wikipedia policies to project his or her own actions onto us. At what point does the article become a candidate for temporary semi-protection? Cheers, WWB (talk) 13:23, 5 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

One should also be mindful of WP:3RR in the case of the multi reverts done to Young Republicans. Lantrix ::Talk::Contrib:: 13:35, 5 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
Also a good point. As SF89 points out on my Talk page, the anon user has now vowed to "check this (page) every waking hour to restore (revert) it if necessary." -- I've never gone through the page protection process and so do not know the details but, on the face of it, the YR article seems like a pretty good candidate. Hey there. Thanks for your vandal-fighting efforts. Regarding this editor - you might want to be a bit more "nice" in your first warning, such as a standard level 1 warning or welcome. These were their first-ever edits on the project, and sometimes a welcoming post with links to various policies and guidelines is helpful. I prefer WP:FRIENDLY myself, but your mileage may vary.
