Strategic campaign

Hi! I looked over the article and it does not appear to be spam. However, it does appear to be pure original research. This still makes it eligible for deletion, just not speedy deletion. I couldn't really find any company/ organization the article was specifically promoting. I suggest proposing deletion or nominating the article for deletion instead. I hope this helps. Cheers! I re-added the spam tag (but left your prod) because it is promoting the creator's book. It may be declined, but I have no doubt that it is spam. As for the prod, it's helpful to include a reason for deletion so that the article's creator (and the reviewing admin) can see your rationale. TKAM

Hello. Our edits on To Kill A Mockingbird seemed to conflict for some reason, but I can see that we were both trying to revert the same thing. The red-linked user (and a few of the IP addresses) seem to be messing around with a certain paragraph. The user wants to repeat the paragraph and says that he's "fixing" broken links as an explanation. He also says "see talk" even though he didn't discuss anything at the time. Hi. You're right--I didn't notice what a mess this article is. It's under a lot of fire right now. The user Bongwarrior is an administrator, and he has already blocked one or more of the accounts that was causing trouble.

My advice: just keep reverting unconstructive edits and be sure to warn the users who made them on their talk page. Start by placing {{subst:uw-vandalism 1}} or {{subst:uw-vandalism2}} on the user's talk page. If the same user makes another unconstructive edit, or if on your first warning you find that someone else has already warned them for a past act of vandalism, place the next higher-level vandalism tag on their talk page. You can find all of the user talk warning tags at WP:Template messages/User talk namespace.

If a user vandalizes after recently receiving {{subst:uw-vandalism4}} or {{subst:uw-vandalism5}}, then go to WP:AIV and put their name on the list to be blocked. Also write that they were vandalizing after receiving their final warning. That should end the problem caused by that user.

Whoa... While I was writing this, all record of that edit mess on TKAM disappeared. I guess an admin did a huge revert on the page, setting it back to how it was an hour or so ago. I guess that's problem solved. But, at any rate, that's how you deal with the vandalism, for future reference.

It looks to me like someone was deliberately trying to sabotage today's featured article. (I don't normally assume bad faith, but in this case it's pretty blatant.) I'll be keeping an eye on it for a while longer. If you have any more questions, feel free to contact me on my talk page. Cheers!

But, yeah, I'd say that in this situation, the user you referred to in your initial post is vandalizing and needs to be warned and, if necessary, blocked.

Of course. Actually, he was blocked by Bongwarrior as I had suggested on "requests for admin. intervention", although that was after Nickbush and I had given the user several warnings.

Just to confirm it, I believe that our edits are not in any contradiction, so we shouldn't have to worry about it :). The user was only temporarily blocked, so keep your eyes peeled just in case. ~ Troy (talk) 19:55, 11 July 2008 (UTC)

Re:Admin coaching

I generally take a hands-off approach to my coachees. I give general guidelines to my coachees, encourage them to find admin areas that they are comfortable in, and work extensively in those areas. I don't micromanage, and act an adviser in cases in which my coachee needs aid. My three points I usually concentrate on are 1) civility and conduct 2) article writing 3) administrator areas. Someone needs to check all the wikilinks (which isn't that bad a job if you have the gadget called Navigation Popups turned on in your Preferences—you just hover your cursor over a wikilink to get a preview of where it goes). The wikilinks should all go to a real article, not a disambiguation page, and there shouldn't be more than one wikilink to an article per section. Images on Sarracenia

Hi there. You asked on my talk page about the images on Sarracenia, and I'm replying here.

• Image:Sarracenia purpurea - anatomical sketch.jpg has an old PD tag. That needs updating. The source is given as "Britton, N.L., and A. Brown. 1913". If we are lucky, there will be other images from that book, and you can copy the tags used on those. For example, Image:Britton and Brown Aster divaricatus.jpg - you could copy and adapt the PD license and tags from there. A more detailed example is Image:Rubus chamaemorus L. - cloudberry 02.png. I found these with this search, and you can look for more examples there. Sometimes you find a book might have had a special template made for it, in which case you could use that, but I haven't found that for this book. If you need more help updating this image, let me know.
• Some of the images, such as Image:Sarracenia pitcher anatomy basic.jpg, talk about using a vector (svg) image instead (in this case Image:Sarracenia pitcher anatomy basic.svg). I don't really know much about that, but read around and ask around and someone should be able to explain it.
• Image layout is very difficult to get right (I don't think I do it right), but WP:IMAGE, Wikipedia:Extended image syntax, and Wikipedia:Picture tutorial (this one is particularly helpful) may have some good advice. The bit from the peer review about not putting images to the left under headers is referring to sections such as Sarracenia#Botanical_history. The bit about text sandwiched between two pictures is referring to Sarracenia#Propagation. The best advice I can give you is to learn all the different tricks to placing and sizing and aligning images, and then to play around with things until you get something that looks nice.
• In general, though, too many pictures and not enough text, will cause problems. The more text you have in a section, the easier it will be to fit pictures in. Do remember though that if you don't 'force' the size of an image, an article will look different to readers that have different screen resolutions. So don't worry too much about image layout.

Re:Simple English Wikipedia

Hiya SunDragon. You're right that there are a lot of templates to be created, but in my opinion, Simple needs more articles. Looking at your userpage, I can see you're interested in video games--this is an area where Simple is lacking. If you head over to the page on how to write articles in simple english, you'll find instructions on how to write articles on that wiki (there are a few different rules and policies). I would begin by picking your favorite video games, finding the articles on the English Wikipedia and checking to see if there is already an article at Simple. If there is not (chances are there won't be an article yet), you can create the article yourself using simple english.

Hi. I 'm sorry it took so long to reply but... I had to sleep. Great thanks for the advice. You're right about Badagnani. I think I already have improved that. The edit summary of my bot is becoming more detailed, I added a message to its page and I give editors a head up. See for example [1] [2] [3] and many others. When the incident with Badagnani occurred I was more inexperienced since by bot had just started working.

As an addition to my answer Q6 and as a reply to the neutral votes, I added this. Do you think is ok? Can I go and improve my answers? I tried my answer honestly, like in Q4. Since I've never read the policy about photos for living people and never used it, I think I had to tell it.

Yeah, sorry I haven't gotten to that yet. I'll get cracking on that soon. Right now I'm working on the sock-puppet case you submitted to SSP (SSP and vandal-fighting are my main specialties right now). I posted my findings and proposed solutions there. I found out that it's not so much a sock puppet case as it is a conflict between editors. Or at least I think I could solve the problem better by trying to resolve the underlying conflict. After I'm done with this case, I'll start going through those Iraq citations next.

Actually, Q6 is the one about non-free photos and Q4 is the one about the hangon tag. I think it's pretty good, but you might ask someone else for the question about the hangon tag, because I wasn't sure how your response was shaky in the first place. As for the other question, I think it would be a great help if you would look back at image policy and expand your answer to the question about non-free photos. I think it would help to settle the uncertainties of a few of the RfA-goers. It was nice to admit you didn't know, though. (So far, the neutrals and opposes have mentioned Q1, Q3, Q4, and Q6 in their comments.) I'm glad my comments helped you. I look forward to working with you in the future. 1. The table for points has too much empty spaces since there is only 1 person guessed it correctly. Could you please delete the empty spaces?

Well, the plot has run away on us again, for one. I also think we could use more info on the development, including a paragraph on "Black Day", a major turning point in the movie's production where Disney nearly shut down production of the movie and forced Pixar to lay off a large number of its employees and relocate to Burbank. Then, of course, a good copyedit to make sure the article runs smoothly.

I also think the article needs more pictures, though I don't know where we would get them. Right now it only has two.

I re-added the spam tag (but left your prod) because it is promoting the creator's book. It may be declined, but I have no doubt that it is spam. As for the prod, it's helpful to include a reason for deletion so that the article's creator (and the reviewing admin) can see your rationale. TKAM

Hello. Our edits on To Kill A Mockingbird seemed to conflict for some reason, but I can see that we were both trying to revert the same thing. The red-linked user (and a few of the IP addresses) seem to be messing around with a certain paragraph. The user wants to repeat the paragraph and says that he's "fixing" broken links as an explanation. He also says "see talk" even though he didn't discuss anything at the time. Hi. You're right--I didn't notice what a mess this article is. It's under a lot of fire right now. The user Bongwarrior is an administrator, and he has already blocked one or more of the accounts that was causing trouble.

My advice: just keep reverting unconstructive edits and be sure to warn the users who made them on their talk page. Start by placing {{subst:uw-vandalism 1}} or {{subst:uw-vandalism2}} on the user's talk page. If the same user makes another unconstructive edit, or if on your first warning you find that someone else has already warned them for a past act of vandalism, place the next higher-level vandalism tag on their talk page. You can find all of the user talk warning tags at WP:Template messages/User talk namespace.

If a user vandalizes after recently receiving {{subst:uw-vandalism4}} or {{subst:uw-vandalism5}}, then go to WP:AIV and put their name on the list to be blocked. Also write that they were vandalizing after receiving their final warning. That should end the problem caused by that user.

Whoa... While I was writing this, all record of that edit mess on TKAM disappeared. I guess an admin did a huge revert on the page, setting it back to how it was an hour or so ago. I guess that's problem solved. But, at any rate, that's how you deal with the vandalism, for future reference.

It looks to me like someone was deliberately trying to sabotage today's featured article. (I don't normally assume bad faith, but in this case it's pretty blatant.) I'll be keeping an eye on it for a while longer. If you have any more questions, feel free to contact me on my talk page. Cheers!

Of course. Actually, he was blocked by Bongwarrior as I had suggested on "requests for admin. intervention", although that was after Nickbush and I had given the user several warnings.

Re:Admin coaching

I generally take a hands-off approach to my coachees. I give general guidelines to my coachees, encourage them to find admin areas that they are comfortable in, and work extensively in those areas. I don't micromanage, and act an adviser in cases in which my coachee needs aid. My three points I usually concentrate on are 1) civility and conduct 2) article writing 3) administrator areas. Someone needs to check all the wikilinks (which isn't that bad a job if you have the gadget called Navigation Popups turned on in your Preferences—you just hover your cursor over a wikilink to get a preview of where it goes). The wikilinks should all go to a real article, not a disambiguation page, and there shouldn't be more than one wikilink to an article per section. Images on Sarracenia

Hi there. You asked on my talk page about the images on Sarracenia, and I'm replying here.

• Image:Sarracenia purpurea - anatomical sketch.jpg has an old PD tag. That needs updating. The source is given as "Britton, N.L., and A. Brown. 1913". If we are lucky, there will be other images from that book, and you can copy the tags used on those. For example, Image:Britton and Brown Aster divaricatus.jpg - you could copy and adapt the PD license and tags from there. A more detailed example is Image:Rubus chamaemorus L. - cloudberry 02.png. I found these with this search, and you can look for more examples there. Sometimes you find a book might have had a special template made for it, in which case you could use that, but I haven't found that for this book. If you need more help updating this image, let me know.
• Some of the images, such as Image:Sarracenia pitcher anatomy basic.jpg, talk about using a vector (svg) image instead (in this case Image:Sarracenia pitcher anatomy basic.svg). I don't really know much about that, but read around and ask around and someone should be able to explain it.
• Image layout is very difficult to get right (I don't think I do it right), but WP:IMAGE, Wikipedia:Extended image syntax, and Wikipedia:Picture tutorial (this one is particularly helpful) may have some good advice. The bit from the peer review about not putting images to the left under headers is referring to sections such as Sarracenia#Botanical_history. The bit about text sandwiched between two pictures is referring to Sarracenia#Propagation. The best advice I can give you is to learn all the different tricks to placing and sizing and aligning images, and then to play around with things until you get something that looks nice.
• In general, though, too many pictures and not enough text, will cause problems. The more text you have in a section, the easier it will be to fit pictures in. Do remember though that if you don't 'force' the size of an image, an article will look different to readers that have different screen resolutions. So don't worry too much about image layout.

Re:Simple English Wikipedia

Hiya SunDragon. You're right that there are a lot of templates to be created, but in my opinion, Simple needs more articles. Looking at your userpage, I can see you're interested in video games--this is an area where Simple is lacking. If you head over to the page on how to write articles in simple english, you'll find instructions on how to write articles on that wiki (there are a few different rules and policies). I would begin by picking your favorite video games, finding the articles on the English Wikipedia and checking to see if there is already an article at Simple. If there is not (chances are there won't be an article yet), you can create the article yourself using simple english.

Hi. I 'm sorry it took so long to reply but... I had to sleep. Great thanks for the advice. You're right about Badagnani. I think I already have improved that. The edit summary of my bot is becoming more detailed, I added a message to its page and I give editors a head up. See for example [4] [5] [6] and many others. When the incident with Badagnani occurred I was more inexperienced since by bot had just started working.

As an addition to my answer Q6 and as a reply to the neutral votes, I added this. Do you think is ok? Can I go and improve my answers? I tried my answer honestly, like in Q4. Since I've never read the policy about photos for living people and never used it, I think I had to tell it.

Yeah, sorry I haven't gotten to that yet. I'll get cracking on that soon. Right now I'm working on the sock-puppet case you submitted to SSP (SSP and vandal-fighting are my main specialties right now). I posted my findings and proposed solutions there. I found out that it's not so much a sock puppet case as it is a conflict between editors. Or at least I think I could solve the problem better by trying to resolve the underlying conflict. After I'm done with this case, I'll start going through those Iraq citations next.

Actually, Q6 is the one about non-free photos and Q4 is the one about the hangon tag. I think it's pretty good, but you might ask someone else for the question about the hangon tag, because I wasn't sure how your response was shaky in the first place. As for the other question, I think it would be a great help if you would look back at image policy and expand your answer to the question about non-free photos. I think it would help to settle the uncertainties of a few of the RfA-goers. It was nice to admit you didn't know, though. (So far, the neutrals and opposes have mentioned Q1, Q3, Q4, and Q6 in their comments.) I'm glad my comments helped you. I look forward to working with you in the future. 1. The table for points has too much empty spaces since there is only 1 person guessed it correctly. Could you please delete the empty spaces?

Well, the plot has run away on us again, for one. I also think we could use more info on the development, including a paragraph on "Black Day", a major turning point in the movie's production where Disney nearly shut down production of the movie and forced Pixar to lay off a large number of its employees and relocate to Burbank. Then, of course, a good copyedit to make sure the article runs smoothly.

I also think the article needs more pictures, though I don't know where we would get them. Right now it only has two.
