Editor of the Week
Editor of the Week | ||
Your ongoing efforts to improve the encyclopedia have not gone unnoticed: You have been selected as Editor of the Week in recognition of your great contributions! (courtesy of the Wikipedia Editor Retention Project) |
User:Prodraxis submitted the following nomination for Editor of the Week:
- I would like to nominate User Tails Wx for Editor of the Week. They can be seen doing virtually everything from countervandalism, AfC, CSD, NPP, cleaning up copyvios and more. Their mainspace work, especially in weather and current events related articles, is solid too, with 4 DYKs, 3 GAs and several In The News nominations. In short, they are an excellent content creator and a vandal fighter at the same time. I wouldn't be surprised if I see them with a mop and bucket one day. This nomination was seconded by Edward-Woodrow
You can copy the following text to your user page to display a user box proclaiming your selection as Editor of the Week:

- Whoa–a surprise! Of course, I'm still thinking about the mop possibility. Thanks, @Buster7, @Prodraxis, and @Edward-Woodrow for promoting, nominating, and seconding me as Editor of the Week! Tails Wx 12:10, 14 October 2023 (UTC)
- Congrats Tails! You've come quite a long way in such a short time. By the way, I recall you once were looking at bringing Hurricane Henri to FA status? If you do eventually bring an article to WP:FAC, I would gladly help out with a review if you give me a ping! The Night Watch (talk) 02:10, 16 October 2023 (UTC)
- Hiya, @The Night Watch! Thanks! Yes, I was looking at bringing Henri to FA status, but now I'm more focused on 2013 Midwestern U.S. floods to FA status, and I've requested a peer review on the article for FA potential. Of course, you can leave feedback there, otherwise I'll give ya a ping once the article becomes a FAC. :) Tails Wx 02:19, 16 October 2023 (UTC)
- Also from me. Congratulations for the award Tails! You've joined Wikipedia a year before I did and you've greatly helped Wikipedia from anti-vandalism work to successfully nominating several articles for good article status or ITN. (If I'm correct), I remember encountering you for the first time back in November 2022 when I was dealing with a sockpuppet, who was adding poorly inserted images. (You were known as "Sarrail" then.)
- I'll gladly support your adminship if you decide it in the future. Oh yeah, I thank you once again for helping me revert that "chaos" that happened a few weeks ago on my talk page. 🛧Midori No Sora♪🛪 ( ☁=☁=✈) 03:16, 16 October 2023 (UTC)

- Congrats indeed, as all the other editors above has said. To be frank, Tails, you have been one of the editors I have looked up to and aspired to be like back in the days when the dinosaurs roamed Earth and I used to be called "Shadow of the Starlit Sky". Excellent mainspace work combined with top-notch maintenance and accurate patrolling - Wikipedia needs more editors like you, and that's why I nominated you for EOTW in the first place. #prodraxis connect 14:08, 17 October 2023 (UTC)

Question from IridescentBackrooms (20:42, 22 October 2023)
Hello, Tails. I will be mainly focusing on science (mainly medicine and relating categories) and politics/history. The main thing that I think I will need help with is knowing how to make articles more neutral and with writing summaries. Any ideas on how I might be able to do that? --IridescentBackrooms (talk) 20:42, 22 October 2023 (UTC)
- Heya, @IridescentBackrooms! For the neutrality on articles, see WP:NPOV, where it explains on articles having a neutral point of view. For writing edit summaries, you can check out Help:Edit summaries for an overview on writing edit summaries (I believe that’s what you’re talking about.) happy editing, and hope this helps! DYK for 2023 Louisiana wildfires
On 25 October 2023, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article 2023 Louisiana wildfires, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that officials said this year's Louisiana wildfire season includes the largest wildfire in the state's history? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/2023 Louisiana wildfires. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, 2023 Louisiana wildfires), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

- @Tails Wx I am almost done with most of the Wx/CVUA/LuxembourgLover, however I have a question. I have seen two 1 2 act of vandalism that are the same, within one month. What is the best way to deal with this? This is a common act of vandalism on the page. LuxembourgLover (talk) 01:29, 9 September 2023 (UTC)
- If it's a common act of vandalism on the page, I would go ahead and warn the user vandalizing the page with uw-vandalism1. However, I honestly might've gone ahead and warned the user for adding unsourced content since, well, how did a "decisive Oklahoma victory" occur? I'm not sure how it's a joke either. Plus, only two of the same disruptive edits on the page isn't convincing me to determine that it is a common act of vandalism on that page. I'd say if the same four disruptive edits occur on a page, then, in my opinion, is a common act of vandalism on the page. Tails Wx 01:47, 9 September 2023 (UTC)
- Should I change the warning to unsourced content? I just thought it was a joke as the article never mentions that anyone won, also in the past people added "decisive Oklahoma victory, texas lost 1 bridge and dignity." Overall I do not understand the history and old edits. It is a really messy page. LuxembourgLover (talk) 02:21, 9 September 2023 (UTC)

The edits there seemed to be made in good faith, as I believe they were trying to add a movie that the subject had a role in. It's unsourced though, so uw-unsourced3 would be best should they continue to add the unsourced content. Can you provide a few links where the IP made "multiple edits just to remove them"? - @LuxembourgLover, I've reviewed the diffs.
- For the S. K. Misro article, I think the edits made there by the IP were made in good faith because it seemed to me like the IP was removing an unsourced film that the subject may have or not had a role in, and the IP also added a year for the film, which is fine considering that the film year is also in the film's article. However, they didn't provide an edit summary for the edit that removed the film–regardless, I think nothing should be done for now since I can't find a source that the actor played in the film that was removed.
- For the P. Sai Kumar article, seems like it's an addition of unsourced content–they've added a film without a source. Plus, the article about the film doesn't seem to mention the actor, so reverting it would be best as it doesn't have a source. And as stated above, if they continue to add unsourced content to articles, especially to BLP articles, then the uw-unsourced3 should be warranted. Tails Wx 17:44, 11 October 2023 (UTC)
- @Tails Wx If you could look at example 11, User:The Banner and User:149.101.1.117, have been doing that a lot, and I could uses a second option. I have never see two users so focused on one user. Also User:Murray Hewitt NZ Consulate came out of nowhere created an account days ago just to comment on one of my talk pages. I could be over reacting and by asking you this they will probably probably see this they will get mad at me, they have been directly watching my contributions. All I want is another option and I am not trying to be mean or launch a personal attack. LuxembourgLover (talk) 15:23, 13 October 2023 (UTC)
- If you start looking over our edits, then please also look at his edits. Especially regarding to WP:CIR and the use of spell checkers. The Banner talk 16:08, 13 October 2023 (UTC)
- Hi there, @LuxembourgLover and @The Banner! I've looked over the edits on Lake Conroe and determined that the IP's edit summary is correct here. LuxembourgLover, I suggest, if you haven't, read WP:CIR. Sorry, but I'm not sure what you mean here is "well-sourced" since the sources about the claim failed to verify the information and didn't mention the "Coast Guard base".
- Also, Google Maps is not a reliable source, per this edit. Additionally, please don't say here "No source", since there is a source for the subject living in that area further in the article. If you have any further questions, feel free to ask! Tails Wx 20:41, 13 October 2023 (UTC)
- @Tails Wx I also want to ask for a second option on what seam to be watching my contribution, is this allowed? Anything I can do so I can edit in peace? I fell like I am more than cable of making edits without three people watching me, I also don't need a account who was created one day ago coming onto talk pages supporting the other side, if you asks me its an alt-account or a friend of the editors. LuxembourgLover (talk) 22:49, 13 October 2023 (UTC)
- I do not want to sound mean or disrespectful, he could and is most likely a editor who just so happened to join theses discussions after joining. The whole discussion most notably on the Lake Conroe is falling apart so could uses some help or just a tip on how to fix it. LuxembourgLover (talk) 23:01, 13 October 2023 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker) – edit histories are open to viewing by all editors. If there are problems with someone's editing, there's nothing wrong with other editors looking at their edits. Please find three examples of good faith but unhelpful edits, and three examples of vandalism. You don't need to revert the example you find, and I am happy for you to use previous undos in your edit history if you wish.
- Please do so when you have time available! Tails Wx 20:29, 25 October 2023 (UTC)

- Listings on category pages are sorted on each wiki for that language using a library. For a brief period on 2 November, changes to categories will not be sorted correctly for many languages. This is because the developers are upgrading to a new version of the library. They will then use a script to fix the existing categories. This will take a few hours or a few days depending on how big the wiki is. You can read more. [5][6]
- Starting November 1, the impact module (Special:Impact) will be upgraded by the Growth team. The new impact module shows newcomers more data regarding their impact on the wiki. It was tested by a few wikis during the last few months. [7]
Future changes
- There is a proposed plan for re-enabling the Graph Extension. You can help by reviewing this proposal and sharing what you think about it.
- The WMF is working on making it possible for administrators to edit MediaWiki configuration directly. This is similar to previous work on Special:EditGrowthConfig. A technical RfC is running until November 08, where you can provide feedback.

November Articles for creation backlog drive
Hello Tails Wx:
WikiProject Articles for creation is holding a month long Backlog Drive!
The goal of this drive is to reduce the backlog of unreviewed drafts to less than 2 months outstanding reviews from the current 4+ months. Bonus points will be given for reviewing drafts that have been waiting more than 30 days. The drive is running from 1 November 2023 through 30 November 2023.
You may find Category:AfC pending submissions by age or other categories and sorting helpful.
Barnstars will be given out as awards at the end of the drive.
October thanks
my story today |

Thank you for improving articles in October! - Today, it's a place that inspired me, musings if you have time. My corner for memory and music has today a juxtaposition of what our local church choirs offer. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:20, 20 October 2023 (UTC)
- @Gerda Arendt: no problem! That’s an impressive-looking image there—wonder if there’s a storm brewing behind those leaves and trees. ;) And nice work on Hans Steinbrenner (sculptor)! Tails Wx 20:59, 20 October 2023 (UTC)
- There was no storm that day, but it was extraordinarily hot (well, compared to when I grew up, - getting almost normal now). - Towards the end of the month, I thought of Brian Bouldton, and his ways to compromise, - with musings about peace there, - feel free to join. Hevenu shalom aleichem. Today is Reformation Day, and I believe that reformation is a work in progress. -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:02, 31 October 2023 (UTC)

I could use your help!
Hey there @Tails Wx, I am currently working on a draft called Draft:Effects of Hurricane Charley in Florida, but I can't do it alone! so I was wondering if you would be more than willing to help me, I would deeply appreciate it! The reason I am asking you is because I heard you helped Hurricane Henri and some other articles to become good articles! Thanks:-) MrLegacyVideoMaker666 23:12, 31 October 2023 (UTC)
- Sure, I might start working on that whenever I have time to do so. Tails Wx 14:12, 1 November 2023 (UTC)
- Ok,thanks :-) MrLegacyVideoMaker666 23:12, 2 November 2023 (UTC)
Those are the only reliable sources who had find. Can you help me to search for others? Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.13.89.71 (talk) 08:10, 1 November 2023 (UTC)
- If no other reliable, independent sources with significant coverage of the subject exists, then the subject is not notable and suitable for Wikipedia. I did try searching for English and Japanese sources, but none of them seem like references for passing notability guidelines for actors and biographies. Tails Wx 14:21, 1 November 2023 (UTC)
- (talk page watcher) I suggest checking out the Reliable Sources custom Google search engine which will only show you results for sources that have been deemed reliable by the community. ― Blaze WolfTalkblaze__wolf 14:22, 1 November 2023 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker) Another note: There is an article about her on the Japanese Wiki, 村松 美香 however, its completely unsourced, so that won't help expanding the article. I've searched the Japanese web but, most of the sources I've found are likely not reliable. 🛧Midori No Sora♪🛪 ( ☁=☁=✈) 14:41, 1 November 2023 (UTC)
- I've added more info with the sources in the description of those edits "History". Can you create that page? 193.207.146.130 (talk) 22:32, 2 November 2023 (UTC)
- I won't accept the draft (if you publish it for review) nor move it to mainspace until the subject passes notability guidelines and is referenced as stated above and per the draft reviewer's comments. The draft hasn't been improved much since my decline. There's still unsourced content as another reviewer mentioned, and the references in the draft (I doubt new ones have been added since my decline) do not pass notability guidelines stated above. Tails Wx 22:49, 2 November 2023 (UTC)
- I've added the sources requested in "Life". 95.239.125.208 (talk) 11:32, 4 November 2023 (UTC)
- Better, but the draft's subject still doesn't meet notability guidelines for biographies and other notability guidelines as stated above. Tails Wx 14:24, 4 November 2023 (UTC)

You should know that a surname article is not a dab
You created Talk:McRae (surname) with {{WikiProject Disambiguation}}... but actually this is a surname page, which is a very different genre of page than a disambiguation page is (although I understand that they do look superficially similar). I fixed this instance but you should try not to make similar errors in the future. Duckmather (talk) 03:18, 6 November 2023 (UTC)
- @Duckmather Ah, thanks for catching that, that was a mistake on my part! Tails Wx 03:21, 6 November 2023 (UTC)
