Re. Galveston

Below find your comment left on my talk page, followed by my reply:

"" Hi! I found this discussion: User_talk:RJN#Why_are_you_.22freezing_out.22_anything_referring_to_Galveston I know that the name of the metro area has changed. It used to be Houston-Galveston-Brazoria (1990) and later it became Houston-Galveston-Baytown (2000). Now it's officially Houston–The Woodlands–Sugar Land because the cities of The Woodlands and Sugar Land have grown immensely. WhisperToMe (talk) 08:25, 3 December 2013 (UTC) ""

My reply: Hi ! Actually you are wrong. The OFFICIAL designation by the United States government is the Houston-Galveston area. Please google "H-GAC" or go here learn the truth. BTW, it is NOT that (the near All-White) The Woodlands and Sugar Land areas have "grown" so, it's the fact the census was taken a couple of years after Hurricane Ike devastated Galveston which caused the displacement of more than 10,000 people ! The recovery is well underway and the population in Galveston is returning. LazLong Sr (talk) 05:48, 9 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

I have no idea what LazLong Sr is talking about. "Houston-The Woodlands-Sugar Land, TX" is the official name given in this document, produced just eleven months ago. You can't get more official than that. Nyttend (talk) 01:11, 10 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

Poster in Niujie St

Depiction of Jino (left) and Hui (right) people on a big poster in 2008

Here it goes! Mind you, the picture was taken in 2008; the poster, and the wall it used to hang on, are probably long gone, and a new high-rise building probably stands where the construction site was... -- Vmenkov (talk) 01:36, 13 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

My Proposed Film Articles

I saw you took an interest in my suggestion that Wikipedia ought to create entries about a few films and therefore created an article about Invisible Adversaries. Thank you very much! You might be also interested therefore to know that I have already submitted to AfC my drafts of the four remaining films about which Wikipedia still has no articles ([1]; [2]; [3]; [4]) from my original post you saw plus one more draft for another vey important Helma Sanders-Brahms art film ([5]). 46.116.250.15 (talk) 22:06, 14 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

Meanwhile, I have changed all the German titles of the films into their equivalent English ones in my proposed articles' texts. Could you please also change the entries' names accordingly? Apparently, only registered editors can do so. Thanks! 46.116.250.15 (talk) 17:32, 15 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

For your consideration, here's my Gods of the Plague draft: [6]. 46.116.250.15 (talk) 22:08, 17 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

Thank you very much for approving that one so quickly! Only one film ([7]) left to go now! 46.116.250.15 (talk) 22:46, 17 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

Thank you very much for all your invaulable assistance! 46.116.250.15 (talk) 11:47, 18 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

I've made a short edit request at a semi protected page. Would you be kind enough as to approve it? Thanks! 46.116.250.15 (talk) 13:46, 19 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

There's an original poster of Wings at that film's entry in the Russian Wikipedia (and what seem like alternative ones here and here). Could you please add one of those to the corresponding English article? Also, I've found what seems to be the original poster of Das zweite Erwachen der Christa Klages here (plus two images which I'm not sure are really posters here and here), what seems to be the original poster of Flügel und Fesseln here, and what seems to be the original poster of Die Berührte here (alternative version here) and would thank you very much if you could add these too. Since I couldn't find original posters for the following films, are the DVD covers of Unsichtbare Gegner (here), Unter dem Pflaster ist der Strand (here), Mein Herz – niemandem! (here), and Das Erdbeben in Chili (here) a legitimate substitute in your opinion? Thanks! 46.116.250.15 (talk) 18:38, 22 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

Thank you so very much for uploading the Wings poster! Someone else has meanwhile added Unter dem Pflaster ist der Strand's DVD cover to that film's article, so there are now only six left to go... Keep up the good work! 46.116.250.15 (talk) 19:07, 25 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

Thank you very much for uploading all these posters! Now the only thing left to do is to upload the DVD covers of Unsichtbare Gegner (here), Mein Herz – niemandem! (here), and Das Erdbeben in Chili (here). 46.116.250.15 (talk) 10:11, 5 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hello again. I have recently made three minor semi-protected edit request ([8], [9], [10]). Would it be possible for you to approve them? Thanks! 46.116.221.185 (talk) 18:17, 11 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

I have marked a section of the plot section (visible in edit mode only) where I want the picture. It reads: "[[Image:|thumb|As Singapore Sling’'s confinement wears on he regains his strength and takes a more active role in the games]]." Many film articles (see, e.g., Persona) use such frames for mere illustration, but if you believe it doesn't pass fair use then I guess no significant harm is done. Many thanks again for your invaluable assistance! 89.139.184.183 (talk) 15:39, 18 November 2014 (UTC)Reply
I have removed this mark for the time being until we'll see whether or not adding another picture is possible with regards to fair use regulations. 89.139.184.183 (talk) 17:50, 18 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

Can't speak Greek (or Spanish) unfortunately. I speak Hebrew, English, and German. PS: I'm not sure how reliable it is considered here, but this might help with all of his films. I have no idea where it's taken from (All I can see is that the short credits at the beginning of this clip do not mention Sarmiento). What I thought is that this clip can simpy be cited via the standard references system and that his statements could thus be used as sources when writing the articles. 85.250.146.10 (talk) 16:21, 1 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

I also found that the later is further discussed here, here, and here and briefly mentioned here and in this journal article while the former is briefly mentioned in this Ph.D dissertation. Finally, I discovered you can find even more discussion of both if you login into Amazon and search their titles in this book. 85.250.146.10 (talk) 13:07, 3 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

Alternative medicine

Not sure if you're still interested in this page (it's been over a month) but i've left a brief whinge that sums up the major issue. i.e the page currently uses a non-standard definition and because it's an emotive topic it's impossible to get it changed whatever evidence is provided. An FAQ wouldn't be much help as this is really the only issue. The page was in reasonable condition until Nov 2012 and since then some socking attacks have flooded it damage that's proved impossible to revert.Aspheric (talk) 17:25, 23 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

Bosnians in St. Louis

Hi. I was considering making an article about Bosnian-Americans in St. Louis. However, I thought it might be good to include information on Serbs and Croats as well, since there doesn't seem to be enough information for three separate articles. What could that be titled? History of the Balkan peoples in St. Louis? History of the South Slavs in St. Louis? Or would it be best just to include information on Bosnians? I'm not sure how to go about this and thought you might have some ideas. If not, sorry for bothering you. Solar-Wind (talk) 02:23, 28 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

Update: There are associations and other organizations for Bosnians, Croats, and Serbs. There is some overlap, but for the most part the organizations are separate. Many of these ex-Yugoslavs in St. Louis came during the 1990s as refugees. There are around 70,000 Bosnians in the city, but I can't find the numbers for Croats and Serbs. The tricky thing is that while many of the immigrants from Bosnia are ethnic Bosnians (Bosniaks/Muslims), some are Bosnian Croats (Catholics) or Bosnian Serbs (Orthodox). So while many are from the country of Bosnia, they may identify with Bosnians as a group or they may identify with their own particular Serb or Croat culture. The identity issue here is complicated, as to be expected with people from the Balkans. Solar-Wind (talk) 12:54, 31 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

Affirmative action in China

There is also a history of affirmative action in China for minorities. During the Qing dynasty, there were quotas for Miao, Yao and Muslim minorities on the Imperial examination especially after the 1784 rebellion by Jahriyya Sufi Muslims, (i'm working on the article about the 1781 and 1784 Jahriyya rebellions at User:Rajmaan/1781 Jahriyya Rebellion, Elman's books here are focused on the examination system in China and he is not a specialist on Muslims in China like historians such as J. N. Lipman or M. Dillon, he mischaracterizes the 1784 rebellion as a "Muslim separatist" revolt (it consisted of mainly just sectarian violence with no intention of "secession", like modern day sectarian violence in Iraq, as the sources at User:Rajmaan/1781 Jahriyya Rebellion show.

The articles on Miao Rebellion (1735–36) and Miao Rebellion (1795–1806) already exist so just link them there if you are going to describe the background.

There is a case in the Taizong Shilu during the Yongle Emperor's reign about Mongol military officers exempted from administrative work because of their illiteracy and still getting paid, so some Chinese pretended to be Mongols to avoid doing work.

These are secondary sources for the illiterate Mongols being exempted from work which you can use in the article as a citation, since the primary source (the statement from the Taizong Shilu) should only be used as a quotation.

Uyghurs in Beijing

The first Uyghur community in Beijing dates to the Qing dynasty starting in the 18th century, when the Uyghur leaders like Emin Khoja of Turfan allied and submitted to the Qing in order to fight against the Dzunghars in the Ten_Great_Campaigns#The_Zunghars_and_pacification_of_Xinjiang_.281755.E2.80.931759.29. The Qing then built a quarter for Uyghur aristocrats in Beijing near the Forbidden City and a community of them sprang up along with their followers.

Note that they weren't called "Uyghurs", because the name "Uyghur" was applied to these people in the 1920s, see Uyghur_people#Origin_of_modern_nationality. In contemporaneous western records in the 19th century, they called them "Turkish" or "Turk" (it was a common western habit to refer to all Turkic speaking peoples as Turkish until they came up with the word "Turkic" which is nowused in modern academia), and scholars today like Millward call them "East Turkestani" or "Altishahri" instead of Uyghur when referring to them before the 20th century, since calling them "Uyghur" would be an anachorism.

http://books.google.com/books?id=DpeQhJ3hcwsC&pg=PA301#v=onepage&q&f=false

The Kumul Khan Maqsud Shah continued to visit Beijing up until the end of the Qing dynasty, to perform the rituals of submission and vassalage to the Qing Emperor.

Follow-up regarding Giles

Greetings, Since our discussion on Giles I have a feeling that maybe most of the primary biographical sources regarding him are still offline/in Chinese? Apparently his chair in Cambridge was renamed in honour of Joseph Needham in 2008 to Joseph Needham Professorship of Chinese History, Science, and Civilization, the current holder being Roel Sterckx. Maybe Sterckx is the best person to query about the available sources regarding Giles, Other eminent sinologists and he himself (Sterckx is definitely notable enough to deserve a GA/even FA). I am guessing that if we ask Sterckx about the potential biographical sources about him, he will not turn us down? (Which academic will not want to see his own page on the front page of Wikipedia!!) What do you think? Solomon7968 07:46, 3 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, User:Fowler&fowler first suggested me to email Michael Witzel directly for references for the article Wales Professor of Sanskrit. Perhaps if we can ask people like Sterckx or Witzel directly then they may help upload their respective University manuscript collections to Wikimedia Commons. That would be incredible! Solomon7968 08:47, 3 February 2014 (UTC)Reply
P.S. I just emailed Roel Sterckx asking him to point sources about he himself, the Joseph Needham Chair and about Giles. Solomon7968 18:35, 16 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

Feedback on Education in Deming

Hello WhisperToMe Your article on Deming education I found very good but you see Deming not only gets students from Columbus but also from Palomas Mexico they get kids there as well. Nikkey Shimbun

Sorry, but I've never heard about it. Albeit, it doesn't prevent me from doing a research about it in Brazilian media :) I can tell you if I find something. Cheers, Gabriel Yuji (talk) 03:37, 17 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

Well, information on it is somewhat sparse. I could find two reportage on Folha de S. Paulo that mention it:the first stress how São Paulo Shimbun (ja and pt) and Nikkey Shimbun are dealing with the aging of its reader. The other talks about how foreign language newspapers are "surviving" in Brazil. Both are recently (2013), and contain helpful information such as a bit of about the history (the first) and its circulation (the second). I don't know how it helps, but a program Conexão Brasil Japão (Brazil-Japan Connection) interviewed Nikkey Shimbun's president in 2003. You're probably wondering why an interview isn't useful, but the news only reports he will be interviewed but sadly don't contain details about it. I also find two articles on O Estado de S. Paulo: one about Toshihiko Nakabayashi who charged Diário Nippak, Nikkey Shimbun's predecessor, and other about Jornal Nippak, its version in Portuguese language. A Globo Esporte's article asserts it distributes an award for sportspeople. Sorry, but I couldn't find more anything; I tried Editora Abril, Universo Online and Globo.com's publications (which englobes virtually all Brazilian magazines and sites). Other major Brazilian website, Terra Networks, only returns blog entries. I also unsuccessfully tried to search on other nation-wide newspaper listed here. Gabriel Yuji (talk) 04:16, 17 March 2014 (UTC)Reply
Ah, I've just remembered to take a look at Folha and Estado's collection databases ([18], [19]), but again nothing. At least, nothing relevant on Folha I had zero response, while Estado led me to the two same news I've already mentioned and an article that mentions on its footer that it was also published in Japanese on São Paulo Shimbun and Nikkey Shimbun due to the relation Banco América do Sul (the reportage focus) has with the Japanese colony in Brazil. Gabriel Yuji (talk) 04:30, 17 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

Japanese international schools

Hi, WhisperToMe. Hm... do you know the names of these schools? I can try but I think a random search for Japanese schools in Brazil would hardly result into something relevant. Gabriel Yuji (talk) 19:24, 17 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

Well, I've just researched about "Escola Japonesa de Manaus", and only could find an Universo Online subsite news about it. I've found an article about the São Paulo school. There also minor mentions from other (hardly-notable) sources: [20], [21], [22], [23], [24]. There is some coverage from Jornal Nippak (what a coincidence!): [25], [26], but nothing so useful. Both Japanese in New York and Paris are very interesting articles, and very well done. São Paulo may worth a similar article since it's the city with the highest number of Japanese in Brazil. Sincerely, I have not too much interest on it, but if you want some help I'm here. In the case you find a source in Portuguese and don't understand it can help, but I hardly can help too much. Proposed deletion of Legendz

The article Legendz has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No claim of encyclopedic notability is presented. See WP:N. No sources are cited. See WP:RS and WP:V. This article appears to rely heavily on original research which is not admissible on Wikipedia. See WP:OR. A Google search failed to yield any RS sources on the first ten pages of hits. Please expand this article to include material backed by reliable and verifiable sources that establish its notability, or it may be deleted.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Requests

The request page in the Portuguese Wikipedia is this. It is divided by topics. For the school, Education is the right place. Japanese in São Paulo maybe fit on Brazil or International relations topic. The newspaper is more difficult to fit into some topic there; maybe Brazil is the more suitable, but there is also "Other" where it can fit. Stub sorting

Hello WhisperToMe. Thank you for tagging an article as a stub. I noticed that you used the {{stub}} template. In the future, it would be greatly appreciated if you could sort the article to a subcategory by using one of these templates instead. For example, you can use {{US-novelist-1960s-stub}} for an American novelist born in the 1960s. Of course, if you can't find a proper category, you can always use the {{stub}} tag and someone else will sort it for you, or you can propose a new stub template or category here. Thanks!

WikiProject Merge

I am thinking that we should merge Wikipedia:WikiProject Mexican-Americans and Wikipedia:WikiProject Latinos. I have no idea how this works, and since both are fairly inactive (i removed the inactive tags for my editing, but it would be nice to have more people to consider them truly active), I dont know if its worth bothering. If we did, i think the best name would be Wikipedia:WikiProject Hispanic and Latino Americans, and it would be a subproject of Wikipedia:Wikiproject United States, as MEXAM is now. I dont know if we could create the MEXAM as a task force/subproject of WikiProject Hispanic and Latino Americans itself. Since you have done some editing in these areas, any thoughts? you can respond here, i will watch your page.Mercurywoodrose (talk) 05:12, 10 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

Re from my talk: I was referring to Harvard Oriental Series (new article). Most of the volumes are translation of Sanskrit/Pali works, but some of them are original monographs. There should be Wikipedia article for all of the original monographs. Sources about Arab and African immigrant groups to Paris

Salut!

I've started articles on the Chinese in Paris and the Japanese in Paris but I've had trouble finding sources in English about the Arab and African groups in your city. Do you know of any good French sources about them?

Thanks WhisperToMe (talk) 14:26, 1 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hi,
I have no information about that. I can only say that there are some chinese in Paris, specially near large shops such as Galeries Lafayette or Printemps. I see them every day. Good for business. Some japanese. And russians. But there are too much arab and african people who lived in Paris. Yes, one century ago, France occupied their countries. It was colonization. But they are free since 60 years and they are unable to manage themselves. Most of their countries are dictature where a few people keep all the money. So they went to France, their former colonizator. Do you know that in France, socialist government started the AME Aide Médicale d'Etat (=governemental medical care). Every stranger in France, including those without any passport is freely cared. Soon, they will be the only people in France who can care. I am in despair... --Tangopaso (talk) 19:37, 15 April 2014 (UTC)Reply
Hi,
Sorry, but I am not interested by this subject. And it is a very sensitive one, because some people think that there are too much strangers in France. Other one that strangers people in France make France lucky. It will not be easy to find objective and neutral documents in France about that.--Tangopaso (talk) 16:08, 19 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

Question

Hello. I am going through the schools and the districts in Kansas on Wikipedia and came across Unified School District No. 365. I was wondering what your thoughts were on moving it to Garnett USD 365 to match other school district articles in Kansas here on Wikipedia? Most of the district articles on here have the USD # on here and thought it would be more recognizable. I plan to add an infobox and expand it a little more. Hope to hear you thoughts on it! Koreans / Metro Detroit

Thank you for requesting/creating those articles on the school district! I appreciate it, excellent idea.

On an unrelated note, I noticed that you created this category (Category:Ethnic groups in Metro Detroit) and I had previously created this category (Category:Ethnic groups in Detroit, Michigan). Should one be merged into the other? Thanks.

One more thing. I saw that your article on Ethnic groups in Houston includes a section on ethnoreligious groups. Since Copts and Sikhs are both ethnoreligious groups, would it be a good idea for you to mention them in that section? Just a suggestion. Solar-Wind (talk) 23:12, 4 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

Wiki Loves Pride

Hi Whisper. Thanks for creating the article about LGBT culture in Houston. In case you are not aware, there is an upcoming campaign to improve coverage of LGBT-related topics on Wikipedia, culminating with an international edit-a-thon on June 21. See Wiki Loves Pride 2014 for more information. If you are interested, you might consider creating a page for Houston, along with a list of LGBT-related articles that need to be created or improved. This would be a tremendous help to Wikipedia and coverage of LGBT culture and history. Thanks for your consideration, and please let me know if you have any questions! --Another Believer (Talk) 15:23, 9 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

  • Thanks for your suggestions. I went ahead and created the following page: Wikipedia:Meetup/Houston/Wiki Loves Pride 2014. I added the community center. Please feel free to add your name to the list of participants if you are interested in contributing to this campaign and/or add other articles needing to be created or improved. Perhaps someone will propose a time and location to meet for a Wikipedia meetup. My goal is to work on articles remotely and upload images related to the LGBT community in Houston. Feel free to spread the word about this project! Thanks again, --Another Believer (Talk) 15:54, 11 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

Cajuns and Creoles in Texas

Hello again. I have noticed that there are a number of Cajun and Creole people in Texas, including in the Houston area. I was wondering if creating an article on them would be a good idea? Given the cultural similarities should there be one article for both Cajuns and Creoles or given the differences should there be two? I was considering creating the article(s) myself, unless you would be interested in doing it. If an article or two are to be created, I'll leave it up to you who should do it. Of course, I could start one and you could contribute to it. Thanks. Solar-Wind (talk) 13:43, 13 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for the response, it was helpful. There seem to be enough sources for an article on Cajuns in Texas, but there are fewer sources on Creoles. So, I think for now it would be best to focus on the Cajuns. Hopefully, I can begin working on an article about them sometime within the next few days. Korean community in Mexico City

Thanks for your interest. So far I didn't find any information about the # of Koreans that live in Pequeño Seúl. I agree with you that as the article expands and more information is available, a separate article about the Korean community could be created. At the moment I don't have an interest in doing so, mostly because I am not able to find a lot of resources that tell me anything new. It is still very general information and mostly about the businesses that are there, and not about the people themselves.Keizers (talk) 16:17, 26 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hi, Whisper. Since you're concerned with how the use of problematic sources may impact an article's "good article" status, I though you maybe interested in a discussion I'm trying to establish in the subject-related, (currently) featured article Hispanics in the United States Marine Corps. It needs some work on its sources. Any help is welcome. --damiens.rf 18:18, 2 June 2014 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of Colegio Monteverde

The article Colegio Monteverde has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No mention of the Cancun or Santiago colleges in their city articles, so no justification for dab page entries, so no need for dab page.

PamD 19:05, 2 June 2014 (UTC)Reply

The school page is about the history of the school. I can summarize it. The school had been established as a girls' junior high school (6-8 grades) in 1961-1962 (Levent Kız Ortaokulu, where Levent is the name of the neighborhood) After a new building was built the classrooms were transferred to the new building during the winter vacation of 1968 and the status of the school was redefined as the high school (Levent Lisesi). The name of the school was further changed to Etiler Lisesi in 1981. I hope this helps. Nedim Ardoğa (talk) 17:53, 9 June 2014 (UTC)Reply

Oriental languages

Japanese in Ohio: if I remember rightly, Japanese is one of the foreign language options at Benjamin Logan High School, which I would have attended had I not been home schooled all the way through.

Chinese: can you muddle your way through a little Chinese? The image I linked in the discussion, File:Honda in Washington Township.jpg, appears in the Chinese suburb article, zh:郊區. I asked for help at their Help Desk, zh:维基百科:互助客栈/求助, but my original English doesn't seem to have helped, and the Google Translate attempt at Chinese doesn't seem to have been understandable, because nobody's been able to help. Could you remove the image from the article with an appropriate explanation in the edit summary?

Thanks a lot for the explanation and the removal; now I understand somewhat better why this would be done. I never imagined that the name would be confused this way! "Plausible" obviously doesn't mean the same to me as it does to you. :-) I wouldn't consider a misspelling to be material for a redirect just because it appeared on one menu. I would be looking for examples of that misspelling occurring in an article, or for there already being a link pointing to that spelling. I don't think most of these new ones fall into the category of "likely misspellings". But I'll leave them. Deb (talk) 09:28, 23 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

Arabic Wikipedia and Rami Tarawneh

Mr. Tarawneh is definitely influential in the Arabic Wikipedia and he was and still is a positive influence to its growth. I truly believe Mr. Tarawneh thinks he is the pioneer in promoting its inception. However, my research into the history of the Arabic Wikipedia have documented proves that there was a group from ArabEyes who volunteered their work to take a leadership role in managing the Arabic Wikipedia long before him. I have provided these sources in the article. Many old timers in the Arabic Wikipedia, whom I have approached, confirmed my findings.

Few days after I presented my findings to the Arabic Wikipedia community, Mr. Tarawneh approached me claiming he was the actual pioneer and that the ArabEyes volunteers were insignificant. Obviously, I asked for any validations to this claim. He could not provide any reliable proof except for an anonymous message from a person requesting assistance to work on the Wikipedia. There is no indication that that person have asked for any leadership role. Mr Tarawneh claims that he was that anonymous person. To me, this is not a reliable claim especially that other documents proves otherwise. The article on Wired was published two weeks after Mr. Trawneh approached me. In the article, Mr. Tarawneh himself claims he was the pioneer and there is no indication that author of the article did any validation. To me, this is not a reliable source I would use to contradict the reliable evidence I have.

The other information I have omitted from the Wikipedia article was the information about the security services which is irrelevant to the topic of the article.

As I have said earlier, Mr. Tarawnah has a lot of deeds to be proud of contributing to the growth of the Arabic Wikipedia. But being the pioneer it is not one of them. I hope this clarifies why I made the changes. --AboluayTalk2me 01:44, 12 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Before I take it to the talk page, I'd like to discuss it further with you one last time. My information is verifiable and it is based on publicly published correspondence between Wikimedia and ArabEyes, the history of the Arabic Wikipedia discussions, the Wikipedia logs, the users talk pages and many other neutral secondary sources. None of them are from primary sources. All of these sources contradicts with the claim of leadership roles mentioned in the Wired article. Can you explain further, please, the confusion in my argument. Appreciated.--AboluayTalk2me 03:33, 12 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
I see. No, I haven't approached Wired and maybe I should. I will educate myself further about the English Wikipedia policies and approach you, although I hate to be a lawyer (I hope you are not a lawyer ;)
Until then, here are some suggestions to go forward:
  • The phrase "Contributors encouraged him to start an Arabic Wikipedia" is incorrect. The Arabic Wikipedia was started by the Wikimedia German User group by mandate of the Foundation and was not initiated by any Arab individual.
  • The phrase that starts with "By 2005, there were fewer than 20 contributors" till the end of the paragraph should be incorporated into the sentence that starts with "However, in 2005..." this will give more meaning to the flow of the history.
  • In the sentence, "Therefore Tarawnah and other..." I suggest to replace it to say "The volunteers worked on recruiting new users". Choosing one name over others is not fair for the others.
Do you see these suggestions acceptable? --AboluayTalk2me 04:35, 12 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Kweilin Incident

Thank you. BTW I came across some English-language sources that seemed to suggest a Japanese Intelligence plot to murder Hu Yun, Chairman of the Bank of Communications, who was killed in the incident. But the sources are thin - behind Google Snippet, or a blog-like translation from a Chinese source. There may be better sources in Chinese but I don't read it. One possible avenue for expansion. Regards, -- GreenC 20:58, 20 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

And thank you bringing it to the attention of other Wikis, and supporting the seemingly controversial "shootdown", which I was afraid would happen and could flare up again. The sort of thing that drives literal-minded readers nuts but is the nature of language and writing of history. Would rather see more attention paid to the historical significance (for China, Japan, US and airline industry). The dramatic minute by minute sequence of events of the crash seems to grab the interest but is really the least important aspect (other than the fact it was destroyed). -- GreenC 16:31, 5 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

I don't know about Hu Yun because that was added by 65.78.12.78 .. who also did the Chinese version. -- GreenC 17:53, 5 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

Re: Sonom

Hi! Just have a few questions before adding the information. Was Sonom a "King" of the Gyalrong people (嘉绒人), or just a "Tusi" or chieftan of ethnic Gyalrong background? Sonom did not really declare himself a king. Theobald's chapter said Sonom was a lord-lama of Greater Jinchuan (instead of "lord-sama" in the current version), but I wonder if he is actually referring to Tusi of Greater Jinchuan (大金川土司/促浸土司). LGBT SF

Actually, i dont think you need to prove that lgbt cultur in sf is notable. its patently notable. what i was saying is that the sparseness of the current article doesnt itself show that the subject is notable to a reader, who would expect so much more even for a beginning article. Such a stub article as you have created would be better off as a sandbox page connected to your userpage, until it has enough information to be useful, and shows some of the depth and history of the community there. I mysel have wondered why no one had created this article before, but when i considered creating it, i realized it was a HUGE subject, and that anything i put together would be extremely limited. so i didnt even try. congrats for being willing to try. another option would be to add a subsection at San Francisco. I would also consider doing a keyword search here for all articles with both SF and LGBT in all their forms, and at least create list of all relevant articles. Again, my concern is not having a stub which doesnt begin to convey the full subject, which then looks too poorly writen and possibly turns off readers. good luck with expansion, and please consider turning it into a redirect to SF, and working on it at a userpage first. perhaps the LGBT wikiproject could help collaborate on a userpage draft you present them.Mercurywoodrose (talk) 19:49, 5 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

Mexico city portal

Im so much not a fan of closing debates when, say, only the nominator and the creator have discussed it, with maybe 1 or 2 others. If if matters to you, please feel free to dispute it or reverse the redirect. Im not going to worry about it. The truth is, if had any motivation right now, i might actually add content to it. i just have no motivation to do any editing. I do agree, of course, that if ANY city deserves a portal, its this one, along with paris, tokyo, nyc, rome and paris.Mercurywoodrose (talk) 17:48, 18 October 2014 (UTC) @Xaosflux: @Harrymph: Mercurywoodrose, the nominator of Wikipedia:Miscellany_for_deletion/Portal:Mexico_City, seems to not like the result after all. I want to say "no" and reverse the redirect and start work on the portal. What am I supposed to do here? If I just revert and add more content will I be seen as going against the result? WhisperToMe (talk) 22:49, 18 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Here's my recommendation if you want to build a new Mexico City portal: start it in a user sandbox. There is nothing inherently wrong with portals for large cities (e.g. Portal:Miami). Once you think it has enough content to be viable, the entire structure can be move to the primary Portal space. — xaosflux Talk 23:50, 18 October 2014 (UTC)Reply
@Xaosflux: So, will all components of the portal "move" when I move this portal from the userspace? Will it be complicated when I try to transfer the contents? How much effort should I put in until the portal is "complete"? Who decides this? I would say few people even know how to make portals and how it takes even more effort than writing an article. There should be a "stub standard" for an undeveloped portal where, instead of trying to delete incomplete portals, the community decides "it's a wiki, add to it!" WhisperToMe (talk) 00:00, 19 October 2014 (UTC)Reply
I'm not going to get in to the editorial aspects of this, however from a technical aspect, all the subpages etc will be able to move, and should be linked relatively (not directly) to the other pages to facilitate this. (See User:Xaosflux/Sandbox14 for example of relative linking). — xaosflux Talk 00:06, 19 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Indo-Canadians

I mentioned the issue with editors' conduct there because I wanted to point at it being an obstacle for constructive discussion about article's content. Continuing conduct discussion there and additionally clogging that article's talkpage would not be productive, so I will reply to that part of your comment here, if you don't mind.

  1. Straw man - Somebody who don't AGF might see your reply there (diff) as some kind of straw man fallacy. I pointed to several different issues:
    • wrong tag
    • issue with comments of both editors, including yours'
    • and your creation of new article contrary to valid objection of other editor)
      • You ignored my first two objections and defended only the third one defending your position without presenting any policy based argument:
      1. A - to show Skookum that you are not ignoring rest of the province you created POVFORK instead to resolve dispute by reaching the consensus. I think that this explanation of yours is insult to common sense.
      2. B - to demonstrate that topics are distinct. Same insult as A. Another editor objects to your point of view, but you still implement it to demonstrate they are wrong.
      3. C - same as B.
      4. D - even more insulting for common sense than ABC
      5. E - this is your only policy based argument. BLP. Which I never mentioned and I think is completely irrelevant in this case. Will you please be so kind to address the first two issues I pointed at?
  2. Bibliography. Presenting the bibliography does not authorize anybody to impose their point of view contrary to objections of other editors.
  3. First step: Actually, your first step was not presenting the bibliography. Your first step was provocative snide patronizing comment "Oops. I didn't mean to imply that I'm of Indian heritage. I'm not of Indian heritage. Nonetheless, I have a revelation that you may be interested in. Let's discuss a lovely thing called WP:GNG." and you continued with similar tone throughout the whole discussion.
  4. Precendent: I don't think there is such a thing as the "precedent" at wikipedia, which is probably the WP:OTHERSTUFF type of argument.
  5. My desire At the end you ask me if "I want" something to be done. You even italicized "you want". Why? I don't see any reason for such attitude which I find inappropriate. I don't want anything. As I explained in the first sentence of my comment "I came here based on the request posted by WhisperToMe at Wikipedia:WikiProject Ethnic groups." Not because I want something. I might be completely wrong here. Wikipedia is based on collaborative efforts. Maybe some other editors will convince me that I was completely wrong, by presenting valid arguments. I just presented my honest opinion based on your post at Wikipedia:WikiProject Ethnic groups and I don't have anything else to add to it for now. All the best.--Antidiskriminator (talk) 11:48, 23 October 2014 (UTC)Reply
  • I am disapointed with your comment. To make matters worse, you formated it as a list so somebody could be mislead to believe that you actually addressed my concerns point by point. I love when somebody prove me I was wrong. Unfortunatelly that is not the case here:
    1. Number 1 refers to your straw man alike reply in which you completely ignored other issues I pointed at (i.e wrong tag) and replied to one of them, without any policy based argument except completely irrelevant BLP. Instead to acknowledge this, you implied that my comment number 1 is actually a POVFORK accusation and instead to address my concerns from comment number 1 about your straw man alike comment you "sucessfully" dealt with point 1-A.
    2. Number 2 - Bibliography - not addressed at all.
    3. Number 3 - You blame another editor for your problematic behavior, adding flag waving fallacy on top of it. The worst possible reply.
    4. Number 4 - Same as bibliography. Just because you pointed to otherstuff and proclaimed it as precedent does not authorize you to impose your point of view contrary to objections of other editors. Expecially if that kind of argument was unconvincing for other editors. No doubt you have heard about WP:DR.
    5. Number 5 - In discussion about merger I think your comment about "my desire" was not appropriate, whatever your intentions were. I think I gave clear explanations for my opinion about your conduct and I don't have anything to add to it now. All the best.--Antidiskriminator (talk) 18:13, 23 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Jimfbleak - talk to me? 07:06, 5 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

I'm a little staggered by a request for deletion and the virulent rash of tags out of the blue. There appears to be little application of WP:AGF here and I certainly did not intend to contribute to or create an advertisement. I've added information, always cited, wherever I've managed to dig it up - and spent quite a lot of my own time on this article (and others about the UAE, often suffering from similar neglect). If it requires cleanup, that's fine - although I thought I'd been at pains not to create a hagiography - it was a sketchy mess that totally contravened WP:BOLP when I first came across it. So what's a good way forwards? Alexandermcnabb (talk) 08:49, 5 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

Help on an article

Hey WhisperToMe,

I'm wondering if you had any advice on how to improve this draft for Mochi Magazine, an online publication for Asian American young women. I'm reaching out to you since you've really expanded articles related to Asian Americans. I feel like it's a notable influential media source, although I'm having a hard time finding secondary sources on Mochi. Maybe you could give me a few pointers on how to craft a solid more neutral article.

Thanks for your time, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Mochi_(magazine)

Hi I know it's been a few months since I reached out. However, I would appreciate your help if you could help me find sources. I'm having a hard time finding them and would love further help or tips. Hope you are well!Kathykpham (talk) 00:17, 22 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

I do not wish to upload it onto French wikipedia, because I do not appreciate the works of FMSH. They made a copy/paste from their website. Let them upload photo if they want to do that.
  • 3 Rue Castéja, Boulogne-Billancourt - Hotel where Deng Xiaoping stayed. The hotel has been destroyed. There is now there a recent ordinary appartment building.
  • fr:Renault_HQ.jpg and File:Renault_HQ.jpg. Recent (and nice) building. Please check fair use templates.

The first paragraph is a bit much, do you think maybe it'll look better if it was simpler with less sentences. I honestly felt it was good the way it was before but if it was going to be enhanced it should be cogent and make sense .... what's there could be better. And thanks for the follow up.

What's the similarity between Aeroperu and today's air crash

Besides both happening at sea? If we're talking aircraft lost for long periods of time or never found after crashing at sea, I could name Canadian Pacific in 1951, Varig in 1979, Northwest in 1963 , and more....William 22:13, 28 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hi! The Aeroperu jet had a problem with its puto static system (its port was covered by duct tape) and it became confused and crashed for that reason. It was found in the sea fairly quickly after the crash. In that sense it's like AF447 WhisperToMe (talk) 22:13, 28 December 2014 (UTC)
Transferred your comment here to keep the thread together. We don't know its Pitot tubes yet....William 22:16, 28 December 2014 (UTC)Reply
Excuse the intrusion. If you are talking about the AirFrance crash over the Atlantic, both involve an Airbus. Involved Petot tubes in that one. There are real issues with the automation and pilot competency. There were potentially problems as they get to the top of the craft's flight envelope. There was a great article in The Atlantic (as I recall) on the issue. Worth the read. It's on line. Sorry to butt in. Regards. 7&6=thirteen () 22:19, 28 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

AF447 is a flight few people have trouble recalling. I just put in links to 3 Pacific/Asia crash articles involving flights lost at sea. A Varig 707 in 1979, Northwest in 1963 and Canadian Pacific in 1951. I'm going to take my shower now, cook, and watch hockey. Not going to worry about wikipedia for a while....William 23:46, 28 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

Tarek El Aissami

Hi. I see you created Tarek El Aissami. The Gatestone Institute, a very serious think tank headed by former US Ambassador to the UN John Bolton says he was born in Lebanon. The article already has a reference suggesting he was born in Venezuela, however. Should I just change it? I would trust Bolton more tbh.Zigzig20s (talk) 14:28, 30 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

Are you able to find more references?Zigzig20s (talk) 16:06, 30 December 2014 (UTC)Reply
I guess we would need confirmation from the US embassy in Venezuela or State Department. Would you try to e-mail them? I am not a US citizen, so they probably wouldn't reply to my e-mail.Zigzig20s (talk) 16:20, 30 December 2014 (UTC)Reply
Well, if you read both the WSJ article and Gatestone Institute post I cited, you will see that his national allegiance is potentially contentious, yes. He sounds like a very strange man, especially from the WSJ article. It is possible, however, that the Gatestone Institute post is wrong (it's not not well written, which is surprising). How do you know Bolton is no longer with them? Their Wikipedia page still says he is their Chairman. (Update it if you are able to find a reference please?)Zigzig20s (talk) 16:52, 30 December 2014 (UTC)Reply
Given how weird he sounds, I don't really want to comment on his talkpage lol. (I don't want to attract unwarranted attention from weirdos). But I do think the page should be expanded--he sounds fairly prominent, attending high-level conferences, etc. Maybe you know other editors who would do a better job than I did. I just hope what I added will not be removed/censored. I usually try not to edit security-related articles on Wikipedia--frankly I don't think I am qualified for such serious topics. I use Wikipedia to relax and focus on historic buildings, polo, etc. I guess as Donald Rumsfeld once said, his birthplace is an unknown known!
