Podtacular

I am working on creating a new page. I figured you might be interested in it if you know about the topic. I is about a popular podcast call "Podtacular". It was on the front page of Bungie.net and is well known throughout the Halo 3 community. Reply on my talk page if you are interested. Here is how far I have come along so Click.
AP Shinobi (talk) 22:53, 28 April 2008 (UTC)

After you dropped by my talk page I remembered I never got back to you about Podtacular... I don't know anything about the subject, but I'll take a quick run-through of your article-in-progress for copyediting and the like. xenocidic (talk) 14:14, 8 May 2008 (UTC)
k, thanks. --APShinobi My Contribs 14:15, 8 May 2008 (UTC)
Since it's inactive, are you sure it will still meet inclusion criteria? xenocidic (talk) 14:24, 8 May 2008 (UTC)
The article is less about the podcast, and more about the entire community. Plus the podcast is still going on, it is just in Video format and not audio. So it meets the same criteria as it would if the Audio was still going. --APShinobi My Contribs 16:04, 8 May 2008 (UTC)

Adoption

Thread starter.

Thanks. The internal link to the John Twomey cited in the reference is not me. I am the bandleader/drummer,not the manualist. This ref.should point the reader to the jazzprofiles page on www.jazzsight.com. Thanks getting the whole reference section back up. John Twomey Brookfield (talk) 03:31, 1 May 2008 (UTC)
My reply here.
Next Day:
Thank you very much for the help. I see the corrected internal ref. that you repaired. John Twomey Brookfield (talk) 23:48, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

Thanks

For changing the adoption offer at Count3d. Mr. GreenHit Me Up 16:43, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

No problem. I'm trying to cleanup the category, so I'll be moving/fixing any I see. xenocidic (talk) 16:47, 1 May 2008 (UTC)
Need help? Mr. GreenHit Me Up 16:50, 1 May 2008 (UTC)
Sure. See Category_talk:Wikipedians seeking to be adopted in Adopt-a-user#Spring cleaning for how I'm going about it... I'm already into users who have not been active within the last two months, and I've got a lot of adoptoffers out there already, I'm afraid if they all accept I might have too much on my plate. What about you? Can you send out an offer to User:SpockMonkey , User:Letter 7, [[User:Chexmix53 ? and perhaps start in the 2nd column of the category for the other cleanup tasks I identified. xenocidic (talk) 16:52, 1 May 2008 (UTC)
People want me to stop offering adoption. Do you want me to offer for you? Mr. GreenHit Me Up 18:05, 1 May 2008 (UTC)
Hrm, that's ok. I'll take care of it =) Thanks for the good faith offer. xenocidic (talk) 17:40, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

Hey Jacob, I noticed you re-signed your comment on my talk page (that I already replied to above)

Just to reiterate, no, that's OK, because I'm afraid I've already got too many pending offers out there. I'm worried if they all accept I'd have way too much on my plate. I am going to try and see what can be done to clear the backlog of people seeking adoption though. Happy editing, xenocidic (talk) 18:08, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

Ok then iI'll move the requests from talk pages to main pages Mr. GreenHit Me Up 18:12, 1 May 2008 (UTC)
I just took a quick look at some of the ones on talk pages, and it looks like a newer user was adding adoptme templates to other user's talk pages, so that might not be a good idea! If you're looking for something to do, consider joining the link disambiguation project Wikipedia:Disambiguation pages with links. =) xenocidic (talk) 18:17, 1 May 2008 (UTC)
Jacob, since Letter 7 seems enthusiastic about you adopting him, perhaps you should go ahead and do so, and perhaps ask Diligent Terrier to be a co-adopter as suggested by the AAU criteria. xenocidic (talk) 00:58, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
I told diligent terrier and letter7.we'll see what happens from here. Mr. GreenHit Me Up 15:14, 2 May 2008 (UTC)

Adoption backlog

User talk pages linked from WP:Adopt-a-User/Adoptee's Area/Adopters (your user talk page is not linked from there for some reason). Cheers, xenocidic (talk) 20:13, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

Here's a manual one ;>

  • I'm happy to help with the backlog, but it will have to wait at least a month. We're coming into the end of the year at the school where I teach, and things are starting to get crazy. Once we hit summer, I'm totally there. – Scartol • Tok 20:24, 1 May 2008 (UTC)
No problem. I distributed this to about 160 people, so there should be plenty of adopters to go around. Cheers, xenocidic (talk) 20:26, 1 May 2008 (UTC)
  • Thanks for the offer, but I'm now busy with my A-levels and I already have quite a few adoptees, so I wouldn't take any extra unless when approached by the prospective adoptee. Hope my results are good and I can become actively editing again, and thanks for your enthusiasm to the project =] --Deryck C. 22:13, 1 May 2008 (UTC)
No problem =) Just thought I would shake the leaves a little to try and clear up some of the backlog. I left about 160 users messages, so we should have no problem clearing it up. Best of luck with school. xenocidic (talk) 22:20, 1 May 2008 (UTC)
Thanks and good luck to you too! --Deryck C. 15:39, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
Hrm, thanks for the suggestion. I sent it to any talk page linked from the adopter's profile page. Perhaps one way to target them more narrowly would be to move inactive adopters to a different page. I'll consider doing that if I ever use the same targeting method for a message of this type. Best, xenocidic (talk) 22:50, 1 May 2008 (UTC)
Hey, thanks for responding to this request. I just wanted to let you know I made a slight changed to your adopt offer to Hopiakuta to remove him from the cat (i moved the adoptoffer userbox to the main page and modified your comment to prompt him to accept on your talk page [1]). if /when he accepts, change the adoptoffer to adopted. Cheers, and best of luck. xenocidic (talk) 14:25, 2 May 2008 (UTC)

Adoption Offer

I've had a look over your adoption page and I see that you've been making some solid gains. I would like to offer to take up the torch - though I should warn that I am typically only quite active during "business hours" in the Eastern time zone (this message being an exception - I can't sleep ;>) - though I do poke my head in here and there in the evenings. If you would prefer an adopter who is more active during your editing times, simply let me know and re-add the adoption request to your userpage, otherwise, if you'd like to go ahead with it we can get started. xenocidic (talk) 07:23, 2 May 2008 (UTC)

Hi, I would like to accept your adoption offer. --FGWQPR (talk) 15:06, 2 May 2008 (UTC)

Question

Am I supposed to change it to adopted or is he? Thanks, Razorflame 16:36, 2 May 2008 (UTC)

It doesn't really matter who changes it, I just wanted to take you out of the "seeking adoption" cat. So you can go ahead and change it to "adopted" if you like, or I'm sure Useight will once he's back online. xenocidic (talk) 16:38, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
I've gone and changed it to adopted. Just wanted to let you know. Cheers, Razorflame 19:27, 2 May 2008 (UTC)

New Project

Myself and several other editors have been compiling a list of very active editors who would likely be available to help new editors in the event they have questions or concerns. As the list grew and the table became more detailed, it was determined that the best way to complete the table was to ask each potential candidate to fill in their own information, if they so desire. This list is sorted geographically in order to provide a better estimate as to whether the listed editor is likely to be active.

If you consider yourself a very active Wikipedian who is willing to help newcomers, please either complete your information in the table or add your entry. If you do not want to be on the list, either remove your name or just disregard this message and your entry will be removed within 48 hours. The table can be found at User:Useight/Highly Active, as it has yet to have been moved into the Wikipedia namespace. Thank you for your help. Useight (talk) 05:57, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

Thanks

AWB will show you the changes it's about to make before it commits them. If you need any help using AWB, just let me know. xenocidic (talk) 21:21, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the offer for help. I am pretty sure that I will need it. I have to wait for my dad to get home so that I can install the .NET framework before I can run it, but I am pretty sure that I will need to ask people questions about how it works both now and in the future. I already knew that it shows you the changes before you commit to them, but thanks for reminding me!
Some questions for you:
  1. What are some good settings to have on?
  2. When it says that it will go through every article in a category AND subcategory, does that mean that if I had it search through the category Category:Switzerland that it would also go through the municipality categories as well?
I'll probably have more questions for you in the future. Until then, Razorflame 21:27, 3 May 2008 (UTC)
As far as settings, it all depends on what you're looking to do. If it's just general cleanups and spelling fixes, then there's appropriate settings for that under Options. It's pretty easy to figure out. If you have it make a list of articles in C:Switzerland, then it will also get articles in Lists of municipalities of Switzerland but I'm not sure if it will pickup the Municipalities in that list. You'd have to make a list "Links on page"... Cheers, xenocidic (talk) 23:06, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

I'm cleaning up Category:Wikipedians seeking to be adopted in Adopt-a-user and noticed you're still somewhat seeking adoption (even though you seem to be a fairly experienced editor?). If you're no longer seeking adoption, consider removing the userbox from your main page. Cheers, xenocidic (talk) 15:45, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

Deleting stub "Marek Garztecki"

I initiated today an entry on a personality from Poland and your were VERY fast to delete it. Typical American approach - anything outside of Wisconsin (or wherever you live) is obscure. If you google the name "Marek Garztecki" you will get around 4000 hits, all serious information from many fields - politics, music, sociology, journalism. I think all articles start as stubs and are later edited and expanded. Kotoviski (talk) 21:31, 7 May 2008 (UTC)

The article didn't assert any kind of notability and I did in fact search and didn't find a single news article on the individual. P.S. I'm not American. If you had spent even half a second looking at my userpage before you launched your personal attack, you would know that. I suggest you look at Wikipedia's criteria for entries and ensure you assert notability in future article. Best regards, xenocidic (talk) 22:03, 7 May 2008 (UTC)

Retirement Calculation deceased page

(Re [3])

Hi Xenocidic
Well, that was a super-efficient deletion of my nascent article! About 20 minutes! I'm guessing that you thought it clearly 'under construction' and currently lacking online references, which is true.
I'll expand it and resubmit in the next day or two, probably. And then time you!

Keith1952 (talk) 13:49, 8 May 2008 (UTC)
Hi Keith, yes, it was removed as part of the new pages patrol. What I would suggest is, if you want to work this into a decent Wikipedia article (firstly I would suggest you try and incorporate the information into say, Retirement planning) but if you think it needs its own article, work on it in your userspace first, and then you can copy/paste it into the mainspace when it is a complete article. (To edit your userspace, just go to User:Keith1952 or say User:Keith1952/Retirement calculation Thank you for not getting discouraged at the quick removal of your article, and feel free to let me know if you have any further questions or concerns. xenocidic (talk) 13:53, 8 May 2008 (UTC)
If you are working on a page add the underconstruction template. Or go to your user page located here: Keith1952 and make a subpage to work on it like I did here: AP_Shinobi/podtacular so it cannot be deleted. Then you publish the page once you finish it. Of course this is speculation because I never saw the actual article. Also note that articles needs to have reliable independant sources, notability to be on wikipedia, and have enough info to be on wiki. --APShinobi My Contribs 14:10, 8 May 2008 (UTC)

Athlete notability

Thank you for your comment about the "athletes notability" on the talk page of Miller17CU94. Yes, competing at the highest level, this is the point. So I do not know why Mr. Barker failed and was deleted. Maybe you are interested to have a look here: [4]. I really tried to do my very best to find out as much as possible... Kind regards Doma-w (talk) 18:17, 8 May 2008 (UTC)

No problem. I'm just not sure that someone is going to come looking for these articles, so many years after the event that seemingly makes these athletes notable. A one-sentence article that isn't likely to be expanded just doesn't seem like a worthwhile investment of your diligent editing skills. And that AFD would seem to set a precedent to delete most of them. Anyhow, happy editing, xenocidic (talk) 18:25, 8 May 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for your answer Xenocidic! Still I hope that somebody will bring up Mr. Barker to a deletion review... Kind regards Doma-w (talk) 08:21, 9 May 2008 (UTC)
I saw your comments regarding some of the issues on the obscure athletes who have competed at the Olympics. The WP:BIO guideline is the one I always go back to as reference and as defense in case of issue. I agree with in the need for information, but all we can get out of it is the official Olympic reports. Again, thanks. Chris (talk) 20:28, 8 May 2008 (UTC)

Prima facie

For the record, I don't think it can be correctly used in the circumstance of admin coaching is obvious power hunger, but then again, it can't be correctly used for self-nom equals power hunger. It's really been a misuse of the term from day one, which I'm actually quite sure Kurt is smart enough to know, but it's always really been used for a certain effect. My question to Kurt was trying to establish whether he would be automatically opposing candidates who were admin coached in the future. Unfortunately, I'm not sure that Kurt actively follows discussions that he has participated in... Gwynand | TalkContribs 19:10, 8 May 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for suggesting I create an account. I have taken your advice and done so. Formerly 82.46.93.158 (talk) 19:38, 10 May 2008 (UTC)

Clever username but it might be against policy. Not sure! Happy editing... =) xenocidic (talk) 20:37, 10 May 2008 (UTC)

My username

If my username is against policy, what should I do to fix it? Should I create a new account? Formerly 82.46.93.158 (talk) 20:50, 10 May 2008 (UTC)

I'd probably advise changing it to something a little easier to remember, just go to WP:CHU. Cheers, xenocidic (talk) 23:51, 10 May 2008 (UTC)

GTa characters

Its not about being spoiled, its what purpose does it serve to list what mission a character is introduced in and what mission they die in? Theres necessary info and then theres just being a douche to anyone who wants to check up on a single character.Darkwarriorblake (talk) 02:46, 12 May 2008 (UTC)

That's what an encyclopedia does. One should not be using Wikipedia to 'just check up on stuff' if one does not want things spoiled. xenocidic (talk) 11:26, 12 May 2008 (UTC)

I am planing to buy a X box 360 Elite. I wanted to know if this one needs a memory card, and also if this one could play X Box games? --Lbrun12415 23:41, 13 May 2008 (UTC)

The Elite comes equipped with a 120 gb hard drive, and therefore, you will not require a memory card. It will play original Xbox that are on this list. Hope this helps. xenocidic ( talk ¿ review ) 00:00, 14 May 2008 (UTC)
How much space is a 120 gb ? and does it come with an HD wire? --Lbrun12415 00:06, 14 May 2008 (UTC)
120 gigabytes is plenty of space. Yes, it comes with an HDMI cable. See http://www.xbox.com/en-US/hardware/x/xbox360elitesystem/default.htm for the full details. Best, xenocidic ( talk ¿ review ) 00:07, 14 May 2008 (UTC)

Userbox page move

(Re [6]) Thanks for the quick resolution! xenocidic ( talk ¿ review ) 15:04, 14 May 2008 (UTC)

Okay, the deed is done. User:WrestlingManiac/Userboxes/Blues_Brothers has been moved to User:Nehrams2020/Userboxes/Blues_Brothers. The former still redirects to the latter, but I can change that if you want. Useight (talk) 15:05, 14 May 2008 (UTC)
I tagged the former for speedy, since no one was trancluding it anyway. Looks like wrestling fan was just goofing around for whatever reason. P.S. I didn't notice that Nehram2020 was an admin before I started all this boldness, otherwise I would've just suggested he do it. anyhow, alls well that ends well. Thanks again. xenocidic ( talk ¿ review ) 15:07, 14 May 2008 (UTC)

Just FYI

I was bold and migrated User:Nehrams2020/Userboxes/Blues_Brothers from the prankster who moved it into his userspace (so the page history could be restored). I hadn't noticed you were an administrator when I started this boldness otherwise I would've just dropped you a note. Anyhow, hope I didn't step on any toes. cheers, xenocidic ( talk ¿ review ) 15:18, 14 May 2008 (UTC)

Thank you very much for helping out with that, I had forgotten all about it! It had occurred before I had my administrator tools, and was going to fix it eventually, but it slipped my mind. Again, thank you, and keep up the good work. Happy editing! --Nehrams2020 (talk) 17:13, 14 May 2008 (UTC)

WP:HAU

Hello again. The Highly Active Users project has gone through a complete revamping per popular demand. We believe this new format will make it easier for new editors to find assistance. However, with the new format, I must again ask you to verify your information on this page. I attempted to translate the data from the old version to the new, but with the extensive changes, I may have made some errors. Thanks again. Useight (talk) 04:30, 16 May 2008 (UTC)

Status updating code

(Re [10]) I have no idea how your code works. It took me forever to figure out Status Bot and SoxBot V enough to get it working as it currently is. Does every user need to create a User:Xenocidic/infobox/status equivalent with the same code in it along with a User talk:Xenocidic/infobox/status equivalant as well? You're still using User:StatusBot/Status/Xenocidic as well. I'm horribly confused as to how it works and I don't want to try to make these changes for all 80 people listed at WP:HAU/NA (not to mention at least another hundred for the other continents. What I'm trying to say is, your stuff looks useful, but I don't know bots at all and it would take me forever to figure out what I'm supposed to do/change for everyone to get it working. Plus it would make the instructions at the bottom of WP:HAU go from 3 to 5 steps or something. If you want to implement it for everyone, go ahead (and change the instructions to tell users how to do it themselves), but we've left the realm of my expertise, so I'm not going to try it. I don't want to mess up what I already got working. Useight (talk) 15:35, 16 May 2008 (UTC)

Statusbot(SoxBot V) Time

In regards to your response on SB V on Sox's talk page, how exactly do I use the template?— dαlusT@lk / Improve 16:40, 16 May 2008 (UTC)

Just modify your LCARS indicator to use the output provided by {{Truestatus}} as a switch. Documentation provided at the template. Let me know if you need further explanation. xenocidic ( talk ¿ review ) 16:52, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
Presently Truestatus would report you as : {{Truestatus}}
I went ahead and made some changes for you - [11] and [12]. Now if no parameter is passed by "User:Daedalus969/Status" it will use truestatus, or you can still pass the "busy" and "wikibreak" parameters. You might want to change the Truestatus parameters (see template documenation), but presently they will show "online" when statusbot says so or you've edited in the last 30 minutes, "recently online" when you've edited in the last 2 hours and "offline" when you haven't edited for two hours. Hope this helps! xenocidic ( talk ¿ review ) 17:08, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for the help!— dαlusT@lk / Improve 17:19, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
No problem. Happy editing, xenocidic ( talk ¿ review ) 17:21, 16 May 2008 (UTC)

Actually, there is one more thing. Would it be possible to slightly alter the bot so that when I am active, This page is blanked, and when I am marked as recently online, it saves the page with the text busy?— dαlusT@lk / Improve 17:28, 16 May 2008 (UTC)

I don't actually run the bot, but I believe this will accomplish the desired effect. best, xenocidic ( talk ¿ review ) 17:42, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
Hopefully it will. Either way, thanks for all your help. I really appreciate it.— dαlusT@lk / Improve 17:45, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
Rather this will. Blank when truestatus says online, otherwise, busy. yes? xenocidic ( talk ¿ review ) 17:45, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
Yes. That is it. Hehe.. that page confuses me just slightly. Again, thanks.— dαlusT@lk / Improve 17:49, 16 May 2008 (UTC)

There appears to be a problem with my statusTab.— dαlusT@lk / Improve 22:34, 16 May 2008 (UTC)

Can you elaborate? xenocidic ( talk ¿ review ) 22:41, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
When I'm offline nothing appears in the tab. Usually there is a red message stating I am offline.— dαlusT@lk / Improve 22:43, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
Looks like I forgot to change the "out" switch to "offline". It should work now. xenocidic ( talk ¿ review ) 22:47, 16 May 2008 (UTC)

Sorry to bother you again, but something again appears to be wrong.. or something. You know, a possible problem. Anyway, it still has me marked as 'Recently online' despite the fact that I haven't been editing for more then 2 hours.— dαlusT@lk / Improve 05:32, 18 May 2008 (UTC)

While it seems to be working, the best thing to do would be keep these two pages on your watchlist: User:StatusBot/Status/Daedalus969 & User:StatusBot/Status/Daedalus969/LastEdit, that is what the template bases your status upon. Also remember there can be some delays in updating, based on caching. xenocidic ( talk ¿ review ) 13:49, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
Maybe it was just me.. Anyway, regarding the script again, you said earlier that my wikibreak and busy params will still work. Do you know how that works, because well, it does replace the text in statustext or whatever it changes(I forgot which area it modifies). Wouldn't it replace the script or something? But I was also wondering if the 'out' param would work too, when I just want to note that I'm gone right away.— dαlusT@lk / Improve 18:53, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
Sure thing, your User:Daedalus969/Status will still continue to accept a parameter (/StatusText|busy etc). you can even use "/StatusText|offline" (out was replaced with offline). just remember to clear the parameter for it to begin working automagically again. hope that helps. xenocidic ( talk ¿ review ) 18:58, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
(code removed)Here is the code for my status changer. Now, do you know a way to make it that when I click 'in', it changes the template to {{User:Daedalus969/StatusText}} instead of {{User:Daedalus969/StatusText|}}
That thing made my eyes pop out of my head. Sorry I only know a tiny bit of code =) Maybe ask the person who wrote it. xenocidic ( talk ¿ review ) 22:50, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

Re: HAU

(Re [13]) You're welcome. I'd kinda prefer to do it myself anyway, as there are times I come on to do a quick check of things and I don't always want the bot shouting to the world that I just made an edit when I really just want to head back off in about ten minutes. It does seem to be a lot quicker than it was though, the last status update it gave me was near-instant, it seemed. Hersfold (t/a/c) 17:18, 16 May 2008 (UTC)

Yea, I noticed your nifty little one-click-to-update thingee up there after I left you the message. Very cool. anyways, happy editing! xenocidic ( talk ¿ review ) 17:19, 16 May 2008 (UTC)

Quest9999's RfA

See, this kind of hostile retaliation is what I was trying to avoid in removing Tree's comment. It was clearly meant to be insulting towards Kurt, and it's been established many times that he should not be penalized for his opinion. With that being said, it could also be said that by insulting him, he violated WP:NPA and the general consensus on the matter.--KojiDude (C) 23:38, 17 May 2008 (UTC)

Kurt is entitled to his opinion, just as Tree is entitled to his opinion of Kurt's opinion. Since it wasn't a blatant personal attack, just a comment on the character of the action, I don't think it was appropriate to edit it. xenocidic ( talk ¿ review ) 23:51, 17 May 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, he's entitled to his opinion, but when his opinion is incivil/insulting, it doesn't do any good to keep it around.--KojiDude (C) 23:55, 17 May 2008 (UTC)
I suppose it's my opinion that calling an action is hypocritical is not insulting/uncivil. xenocidic ( talk ¿ review ) 00:04, 18 May 2008 (UTC)

(Re [14]) Technically it is, although when it was created, it wasn't ("WP:" was a fake namespace, and didn't automatically redirect to "Wikipedia:") I didn't create the redirect, though, and I'm not really worried if it were to get deleted. Ral315 (talk) 07:23, 18 May 2008 (UTC)

I've replaced your current status indicators with {{Statustop}} which will show you online for 30 minutes after your last recored edit, "recently online" for 2 hours and "offline" after 2 hours. Hope this helps! xenocidic ( talk ¿ review ) 16:52, 20 May 2008 (UTC)

No problem. The time periods can be tweaked with the parameters (if you so desire), as explained in the template documentation. xenocidic ( talk ¿ review ) 17:08, 20 May 2008 (UTC)
So {{Statustop|3600|1200|Cameron|offset=500}} would display me as online if I have edited within the last 20 mins and recently online if I have edited within the last hour? --Cameron (T|C) 17:18, 20 May 2008 (UTC)

Good idea! I hadn't thought of that. I just copy & paste the one from my user page, right? Or is there some kind of ritual I have to do?--KojiDude (C) 21:08, 20 May 2008 (UTC)
No ritual required, just the same code. If you want to change the functionality at all (i.e. the time periods at which it updates), you can add parameters, as explained at {{Statustop}}. Can't see exactly what's making it lose functionality, so I reverted the change. It the subjectspace restriction shouldn't be a problem as long as no one abuses it. Thanks for pointing that out. xenocidic ( talk ¿ review ) 18:23, 21 May 2008 (UTC)

declined CSD (Eric Castelli)

(Refactored conversation starter) Hey there, I thought the CSD might be declined, but I'm just curious... Will an a7 always fail as long as the article includes the words "X is notable because ...". I thought it might still be deemed non-notable (regardless of the weak assertion), because Wikipedia does not even have an article on the software that seemingly makes this individual notable. $50 follow-up question: should I have just tagged this version with {{db-copyvio}} ? xenocidic ( talk ¿ review ) 18:56, 21 May 2008 (UTC)

Depends on what they claim their assertion of notability is. This particular example makes a good case for notability. Once that happens, you are welcome to take it to AFD for further consideration. CSD is for blatantly obvious instances. If you have a question that it may be declined for speedy, do some research on it yourself and nominate it for AFD. if AFD deems it speediable, it often gets done. Chrislk02 Chris Kreider 18:59, 21 May 2008 (UTC)
Thanks. I'll have to delve deeper into the deletion policy. And the $50 follow up question? xenocidic ( talk ¿ review ) 19:04, 21 May 2008 (UTC)
Depends on how miuch work you want to do. You can always tag copy-vios for speedy. Or, if you wanna take some time, and you feel the subject is notable, you can re-hash the copyvioed information and cite where it was copy-viod from. Just depends on what you want to do, and if you feel the effort is worth it (I.E., is the subject notable enough to put the effort into it?). Chrislk02 Chris Kreider 19:06, 21 May 2008 (UTC)
I think the subject would fail at AFD due to lack of secondary source material which is reliable, intellectually independent, and independent of the subject (therefore, I won't take the time to rehash the primary sourced copyvio). Thanks for your time! xenocidic ( talk ¿ review ) 19:09, 21 May 2008 (UTC)

Adoption

Hi,

I recently signed myself up for adoption, i looked at your adoptor listing and it said you an avid video gamer (this i like).

So Xenocidic, Have you got room to mentor another wiki user? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Prom3th3an (talkcontribs) 12:34, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

I'd be happy to. I'll prepare an adoption subpage for you and transclude it to your talk page. This way we can keep all discussion centralized. Don't forget to sign your posts with ~~~~ =). Feel free to ask any questions you have, big or small. xenocidic ( talk ¿ review ) 12:39, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

Hello!

(Re: [18]) I gave him instructions on how to add the statusbot template... it's on my monobook.js anyways... I'm a JavaScript coder... Sure! Getting my IP and contacting it for abuse? lolwtf (some editors even said that) is pointless... All right, i'm going to change something so it's impossible to copy :P --Creamy!Talk 14:06, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

yea, i took a look at your monobook - there's a lot in there! (I still prefer statusbot's automagic statusing, I always forget to manually change my status). thanks for burying the hatchet. xenocidic ( talk ¿ review ) 14:07, 22 May 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, there's a lot, a modified version of Twinkle, a newpage watcher (one that doesn't use external software) and scripts to close AfD and stuff... The best feature is a graphical counter... --Creamy!Talk 14:09, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

Niko Bellic article

Hi! Thanks for the contribution you made to the sub page. Could you please include the info about the interview with Michael Hollick. I've tried to access the website but its not working and I don't know why! So if you have time, feel free to add the info to the subpage. JayJ47 (talk) 10:24, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

How can you say he's polish or russian?? His surname Bellic clearly says he's from balkans, so he's Serbian or Croatian.

Skorec89 (talk) 15:31, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

What I meant by that was, in game he is referred to as a number of different nationalities by a number of different people. So I don't think the argument that someone says "here come the serbs" was particular persuasive in proving his nationality/ethnicity. I also think what may have actually been said was "here come the serfs" (peasant servants), but I'd have to replay the game to check on this. xenocidic (talk) 05:14, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

I'm not pointing on "here come the serbs" but at his surname, it is obvious that he's Balkan origin, because most of Serbian and Croatian surnames are ended by "ić" (pronounced itch), and there are only minimum polish and russian surnames with this ending. It will be best to ask somebody who can speak well serbian and croatian both.

sorry for my bad english

Skorec89 (talk) 15:26, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

The problem with that (asking someone who speaks Serbian or Croatian) is that it constitutes original research. While a good many sources state Niko is Serbian, I've advanced arguments as to why I find them unpersuasive. Sam Houser, the executive producer of GTA IV, has stated Niko is from that "gray area of Eastern Europe", this is why I've proposed we leave his nationality as "of unspecific Eastern European nationality" -- to prevent edit conflicts between those who believe he is Serbian and those who believe he is Croatian. xenocidic (talk) 15:30, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

I suggest that somebody, who has the game (unfortunately i don't have it), should post an example of Niko's native language (for example e-mails of his mother), and leave it for further comment by other users. Maybe the wiktionary can help a lot.--Skorec89 (talk) 18:14, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

Another editor has suggested a different solution here. xenocidic (talk) 18:28, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

I didn't knew that there is a talk page for an article. I'm still new here... It can happen to anybody. :D--Skorec89 (talk) 18:41, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

Yes, have fun reviewing the lengthly debate about Niko's nationality, it is also at Talk:Grand Theft Auto IV. I tried my best to come up with a "neutral" solution (being "Eastern Europe", since Serbia is included in that over-arching term), but it seems this is still unacceptable to some editors =). Anyways, feel free to drop by if you ever have any other questions! xenocidic (talk) 18:44, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

That's called patriotism... If I would be serb I would behave similarly like others who argue about it, so you can only accept it.--Skorec89 (talk) 18:50, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

Hey, thanks. I've been trying to overhaul my page (since it was still just a bunch of text from what I typed in as a new editor), and I've got a couple editors to chip in, so it'll probably still change a lot over the next few days. Useight (talk) 14:52, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
No problem. One suggestion if you're going to keep the black background is to span-style the links so that they're bold red (or whatever font colour you settle on) the dark blue is tough to read on the black background. xenocidic ( talk ¿ review ) 14:55, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, I've noticed the blue is hard to read against the black, but I couldn't figure out how to change the color of links. I was thinking maybe I'd just change the background to a light red and make the text black. Useight (talk) 14:59, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
Here's an example of how to do it. I'm not gunna lie though - I'm not a fan of the black background, so your other idea would be best =) xenocidic ( talk ¿ review ) 15:02, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
I ended up changing the color scheme completely. Still a work in progress, but what do you think so far? Useight (talk) 15:46, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
definately better than the black, but now it makes the blue links hard to read (lol). make the links bold-black, or lighten the blue. xenocidic ( talk ¿ review ) 15:50, 23 May 2008 (UTC)

Templates

Do you know how to make a template? I already have the text and everything written down, I just want to put it in a template to make it more acssesable. Mr. GreenHit Me UpUserboxes 16:50, 23 May 2008 (UTC)

Is it a single/personal-use template, or something that others might have use of? If it's just for yourself, just create it somewhere in your userpage space, then you can subst it or transclude it when you need it (i.e. User:Xeno/welcome). If it's something everyone might use, then create it at Template:whatever it should be called. xenocidic ( talk ¿ review ) 16:53, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
(P.S. I found what you're referring to, if you look at the welcome thing I linked above, you can see how to trick it into encoding your signature). xenocidic ( talk ¿ review ) 17:00, 23 May 2008 (UTC)

Not sure if you're still seeking an answer to your question, a subpage is a nested page, for example User:Electrical Experiment/sandbox would be a subpage. Many people use subpages to keep their main userpage to a manageable size. xenocidic ( talk ¿ review ) 17:16, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

Admin Coaching

Hey there Xenocidic, I've looked over your edits (per the Editor Review) and think you can be ready for a run for RfA in about a month or so. If you are still interested in having me as a coach, let me know and create a coaching page User:Xenocidic/admin coaching. The first thing that I'm going to do is ask you to answer the 3 questions asked of admin candidates. I picture this being an easier/higher level coaching as you are all but ready without the coaching. If you accept, please realize that there are some people who are currently opposed to coaching a may vote oppose for no other reason than you went through coaching. But I think the benefits outweigh those few possible opposes.Balloonman (talk) 06:57, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

Done. and don't worry, I've weighed the benefits and the detriments of admin coaching and I agree that it's far more beneficial than a handful of opposes. xenocidic ( talk ¿ review ) 15:52, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

User:The_Vandal_Warrior/Userboxes/GTA_IV_fan

Why did you move this into the template space? Per userbox migration, non encyclopedia userboxes should be in the userspace. Furthermore, did you ask Vandal Warrior for permission before moving his userpage? xenocidic ( talk ¿ review ) 18:37, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

I didn't know that is should be under "User name of userbox" and not "Template: User name of userbox". Well, I didn't know this at the time. I created the rest of my userboxes that way, but I forgot about moving the other one. I don't have The Vandal Warrior's permission, because the user is not active. I though I could "steal" the userbox without anyone knowing. Sorry about that. I won't do it again. Meaty♠Weenies (talk) 18:56, 26 May 2008 (UTC)
Non-encyclopedic userboxes should have the syntax User:Meaty Weenies/name of userbox. Please see WP:UBX and WP:UBM for more on this. Best regards, xenocidic ( talk ¿ review ) 18:58, 26 May 2008 (UTC)
So is Template:User Cornish ancestry okay? That's what I used for all my ancestry userboxes and I used Template:User ICC for people who attend/attended Ivybridge Community College (ICC). Meaty♠Weenies (talk) 19:02, 26 May 2008 (UTC)
Those userboxes should be ok, since they're somewhat encyclopedic. Just keep in mind any "silly" (for lack of a better word) userboxes like "This user likes GTA", "This user likes pie", "This user wouldn't mind being slapped with a rainbow trout" should be created as a subpage of your userspace. If you're not sure, ask me, or err on the side of caution and put it in your userspace. Happy userboxing! xenocidic ( talk ¿ review ) 19:05, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

This is because my account was created on July 14, 2006, though I've only been actively editing since January 2008 (starting right around the first "hello world" entry). As such the RfA nom really only addressed my "active" time (I did do a bit of work back in 2006, but nothing major). Hope that clears up the confusion =). xenocidic (talk) 14:43, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

We haven't really done much at all, as FGWQPR has been fairly inactive since I came on board. See User:FGWQPR/adoption. xenocidic ( talk ¿ listen ) 21:52, 1 June 2008 (UTC)

Your RFA comments

Your comments here reminded me of my own RFA, which had a final tally of 70-1. Useight (talk) 15:41, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

89 days? You couldn't have waited one more? sheesh - are you open to recall? ;> xenocidic (talk) 15:47, 29 May 2008 (UTC)
Actually, I really was planning on waiting one more day (December 2nd would've marked one year since creating my account and I thought that would be a good way to celebrate), but the RFA page looked like this and I just had to ruin it. :P Useight (talk) 15:51, 29 May 2008 (UTC)
wow, no RFA's running? people must have been x-mas shopping. xenocidic (talk) 15:54, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

Looks like your RfA is goin good.Keep up the good work.Mr. GreenHit Me UpUserboxes 15:56, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

re Wikipedia:Requests_for_adminship/Dihydrogen_Monoxide_3

(Re [20])

Thank you. I fixed it. Oops! Bstone (talk) 22:40, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

no problem. you might also want to delete the errant neutral. xenocidic (talk) 22:41, 29 May 2008 (UTC)
I deleted the errant neutral, as the bot was picking up duplicate voters. xenocidic (talk) 23:04, 29 May 2008 (UTC)
FYI, we generally don't delete !votes---even duplicates---unless they are inflamitory and clearly made in bad faith. We'll even leave vandal !votes on RfA's. What you should have done is indented the duplicate with an explanation. That way it avoids any appearance of gaming the system.Balloonman (talk) 23:14, 29 May 2008 (UTC)
Gotcha. I just thought because it was the exact same vote, just put in the wrong section, it should've just been moved altogether rather than left behind. P.S. You might want to restore the neutral on my RFA that was changed to support. Here is the diff. (Dupe vote restored) xenocidic (talk) 23:18, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

Thanks!

Thanks for catching that peculiar bit of vandalism on my Talk Page! Ecoleetage (talk) 19:49, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

No problem. They used a deceptive edit summary to attempt to disguise their action. The IP has been blocked for 2 years as well. xenocidic (talk) 19:50, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
Some people need to get a life, truly! Say, how can a character like me help Wikipedia fight vandals? Where can I go around here to keep track of the digital miscreants who muddy up the various pages? And when I find them, how can I report them? Thanks! Ecoleetage (talk) 19:59, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
I typically find vandals by looking at my watchlists, as I have your talk page on mine at the present time. Before I was granted rollback ability, I used Twinkle to easily roll back the vandalism. When you feel the need to report a vandal, you can do so at Administrator intervention against vandalism. (Twinkle helps to automate this process). Let me know if any of these needs explained further. xenocidic (talk) 20:01, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

Oh, that is good to know. I've heard about Twinkle, but never installed it. I also have Rollback rights, but never used that, either. I hope you don't find my Talk Page too boring! If you can, keep an eye on that GP75 guy's page that we talked about on Keeper's page earlier today. I want to make sure that no one is going to bait him to lose his cool (and his account, for that matter). I've already told people to back off from fighting there, but I'd appreciate an extra set of eyes to ensure this will work properly. Thanks again! Ecoleetage (talk) 20:09, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

Don't worry, I already had GP75's talk page on my list due to an Adopt-a-user concern (see his archive 1). He does need to stop using Wikipedia as a Myspace and focus on improving the encyclopedia, though. xenocidic (talk) 20:13, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
Agreed. Let me try to get him in that direction. Thanks! Ecoleetage (talk) 20:15, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

thanks!!

For catching my errors on the RfA. And good luck to you - Her Pegship (tis herself) 05:30, 31 May 2008 (UTC)

No problem - good luck. xenocidic (talk) 05:31, 31 May 2008 (UTC)

Re: Confused

(Re [21]) You are right -- I meant to write WP:RFC/U. Thank you for pointing that out; I've fixed it now. — xDanielx T/C\R 19:07, 31 May 2008 (UTC)

no problem! cheers, xenocidic (talk) 19:08, 31 May 2008 (UTC)

G'day mate

Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Xenocidic I nominated B jacob (talk) 19:42, 31 May 2008 (UTC)

Well, technically you didn't nominate, you just added your support. But I thank you all the same. =) xenocidic (talk) 19:45, 31 May 2008 (UTC)
