Revenue stamps of Northern Ireland

Hi. I removed this link from the template as Northern Ireland should be dealt with in the Revenue stamps of the United Kingdom article I think. It could be split out if that article gets very large but it is still quite short. Philafrenzy (talk) 10:43, 10 January 2013 (UTC)

P.S. You don't have to keep blanking this page, you might find it easier to leave messages up so that they form a record of other people's comments and your replies but it is up to you. Philafrenzy (talk) 10:45, 10 January 2013 (UTC)

Inline references

I saw what you did with the references but the idea about in-line ones is that they are a bit more precise than general sources. So they should usually verify a particular point or fact in the article with a page reference from the book rather than general content. The way we have the Barefoot references now is not wrong, but it is no more helpful than just saying Barefoot was the source for the whole article. Hope my meaning is clear. Keep up the good work. Thanks. Philafrenzy (talk) 22:09, 10 January 2013 (UTC)

Revenue stamps template

Are you no longer intending to do those other countries? I hope you will, because if it falls on me it will take a long time. Thanks, Philafrenzy (talk) 16:51, 20 January 2013 (UTC)

I still intend to do them, but I am currently a bit busy so I don't have time to do all of them now. Xwejnusgozo (talk) 17:00, 20 January 2013 (UTC)
I understand, there is an unlimited amount of articles that could be done if we had time. Philafrenzy (talk) 17:06, 20 January 2013 (UTC)

Malta

Nice work on the inline referencing. I removed the 2 column tag until the reference list is longer. You might want to consider using http://www.webcitation.org/ to archive pages included in references in order to prevent link rot. There is nothing sadder than a well referenced article where the original references are all dead and nobody archived them. Philafrenzy (talk) 18:51, 22 January 2013 (UTC)

Revenue stamp template

I removed some of the places inside the UK from the template as it is getting too crowded. Unless you are going to create proper separate articles about, for instance, Gloucestershire or Ely, then we don't need to add them to the template which I think should be restricted mainly to separate countries, not sub-divisions of countries like counties. (There may be a few exceptions). Philafrenzy (talk) 12:12, 20 June 2013 (UTC)

Revenue stamps of the United Kingdom

Please note that Alderney, Jersey, Guernsey and Isle of Man are NOT part of the United Kingdom, even though the Barefoot catalogue includes these places. I removed your content in the above article in that respect. They certainly could have their own articles if you have enough detail. Your contributions in respect of those places is still in the history if you want to create the articles. I note also that the UK article seems to be turning into a list. This project is not a catalogue so there is no need to list every type of revenue ever issued for each country. A general discussion of the main types is more helpful for the general reader. Thanks. Philafrenzy (talk) 10:35, 23 June 2013 (UTC)

Underprints

Could you please elaborate on your use of the term underprint in the article Revenue stamps of the United Kingdom? I am note sure that I understand what you mean or that the term is being used correctly. Thanks. Philafrenzy (talk) 10:40, 23 June 2013 (UTC)

They were printed on paper which already had the wording (eg CUSTOMS) printed on the paper before the embossed stamp was impressed on top. The term "underprint" is used in Barefoot for these as well.
I will have a look at what he says. Thanks. Philafrenzy (talk) 11:20, 23 June 2013 (UTC)
I found what he says and agree with your use of the term. I also created the article Underprint for good measure. Philafrenzy (talk) 00:51, 29 June 2013 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Barefoot Catalogue

The article Barefoot Catalogue has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

As this article stands, it clearly fails WP:GNG and seems promotional. Please provide independent, reliable sources for this to show this topic is notable.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. French Algeria

Hi Xwejnusgozo. I think that the proper way to proceed is to provide reliable sources for your statements. Moreover, the infobox is supposed to summarize the contents of the article. If no sourced mention to such a fact is provided within the body of the article, it's weird to include an unsourced and unmentioned fact in the infobox unless proper sources are provided. Am I missing anything? Best regards --El extranjero (talk) 14:37, 11 November 2013 (UTC)

Gibraltar

Hi there. Just wanted to thank you for your Gibraltar-related philately articles  . There's a small list of Gibraltar-related philately articles to be created here in case you're interested in giving any of them a go.

I've just had a read through your articles on the different periods of Malta's history which I've found very interesting (my mother is Maltese). I never knew Gozo had been independent for 2 years!

This article may be of interest to you. --Gibmetal 77talk 2 me 11:21, 13 February 2014 (UTC)

Vassallohistory

Hi! Nice work on the auberges! However, I don't think you should be using the vassallohistory site as a source here - as far as I can see, it just copies chunks of stuff from elsewhere on the web, without attribution or references. Apart from making it an unreliable source for our purposes, that also raises concerns about copyright (see WP:COPYLINK). Regards, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 09:49, 27 February 2014 (UTC)

Hi, I saw that in some cases it was directly copied from another website, eg. Auberge de Bavière and Auberge d'Italie. However for some of the others, eg. Auberge d'Allemagne it seems to be the only resource. This is especially the case with the demolished Auberges. Best regards, Xwejnusgozo (talk) 11:26, 27 February 2014 (UTC)
Yes, that may be, but is not in itself a justification for using it. The reasons for not using it remain valid. I get a good number of hits in this search and at least one useful one (Mifsud 1907) from this one. I'll add another reference from JSTOR in a minute.

Xwejnusgozo, although you said you thought Drmies's edits were fine, the issues raised had to do with the article as it stood after those edits. These are fixes that need to be made. In particular, the ones raised in the comment I related from Nikkimaria: the incorrect source citing, the need for a copyedit, and a bit of close paraphrasing. I hope you can take care of these soon. Thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 14:11, 5 June 2015 (UTC)

WP:Intertranswiki

Hi. I invite you to this project. It's not specifically for translating from other wikis, but it is to address systematic bias, Malta very much a part of that. I was wondering if you could pick a topic and finding 10 missing Maltese article to add to the stub focus as the next round. Perhaps monasteries or something? I stubbed Monastery of St. Scholastica which you may wish to expand.♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:06, 8 June 2015 (UTC)

@Dr. Blofeld: I'm not sure I understood what the project is about. Do I have to pick 10 articles in the Maltese Wikipedia, and then translate them into English? If so, I can try (but the number of articles on the Maltese Wikipedia is very limited - I intend to sometime try to create more articles there, but for now I don't have time.) Best regards, Xwejnusgozo (talk) 20:36, 9 June 2015 (UTC)
Not if Maltese wikipedia articles are poor. It's basically a missing article project, so any missing Malta articles are welcome. Can you like me 10 missing Maltese churches or forts or something?♦ Dr. Blofeld 07:37, 10 June 2015 (UTC)

@Dr. Blofeld: Here is a list of 10 Maltese fortifications that still need an article:

With the exception of the Falca Lines article on the German Wikipedia, I don't think these articles are covered elsewhere. Is this OK? Best regards, Xwejnusgozo (talk) 15:51, 10 June 2015 (UTC)

Yes. Can you create some of the articles on the general ones and I'll try to do the last few?♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:57, 10 June 2015 (UTC)

@Dr. Blofeld: OK, I'll try to do at least some of them today. If you have trouble finding sources for the batteries, I'll try to help (the National Inventory of Cultural Property of the Maltese Islands is a good start - particularly the list here). By the way, the Vendôme Battery I'm referring to is the one at Armier Bay (35°59′22.3″N 14°21′12.6″E / 35.989528°N 14.353500°E / 35.989528; 14.353500) since other batteries/redoubts (such as Dellija Redoubt) are also sometimes referred to as "Vendôme Battery". Xwejnusgozo (talk) 16:06, 10 June 2015 (UTC)
Thanks, I'll add them to the board then.♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:08, 10 June 2015 (UTC)
Excellent work on these. BTW, I see most of the Maltese municipality articles are not exactly in the best shape. I wondered if you'd be interested in helping restart/rewrite a few and even going for a WP:Good article on a few of them?♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:17, 23 June 2015 (UTC)
Would you and Ipigott be up for getting the capital city Valletta up to GA status?♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:20, 23 June 2015 (UTC)

@Dr. Blofeld: Thanks :) I'll try to write the article on Pinto Battery sometime this week. I know that the municipality articles need a lot of work (in fact I already tried to improve some of them - Dingli, Mdina, Santa Venera and St. Paul's Bay come to mind). For now I want to focus on the fortifications (there are still a number of articles I intend to create), but when they're done I'll try to improve some of the articles on the municipalities, particularly the larger ones and the cities. In the meantime, I'll try to gather some sources for the Valletta article. It would be nice for it to be a GA, since there are only 4 good articles on WikiProject Malta. Xwejnusgozo (talk) 21:29, 23 June 2015 (UTC)

If Xwejnusgozo can take the lead, I can help out a bit with Valletta (although I've unfortunately never been there) but I don't want to have too many irons in the fire all at once. My priority for the time being is Jean Sibelius which now seems to be coming along quite well. Once we have managed to get that one up to at least GA, I can begin to spend more time on cities. I seem to remember Dr. Blofeld recently raised the possibility of bringing Copenhagen up to FA. That would certainly be an interesting assignment too. And I have not forgotten our intention to work on four more Danish cities (i.e. Randers, Kolding, Horsens and Vejle) so that Denmark's ten largest cities are all have GA status.--Ipigott (talk) 06:56, 24 June 2015 (UTC)

Palazzo Dragonara

Please revert name of Dragonara Palace article to Palazzo Dragonara. Academically it should be referred to its original name and then other names should be added and explained in the article. I wrote this in the first entry paragraph. I will be writing some article on places which start by 'Palazzo' since when being built. We cannot change a name when someone changes the original name. Just in case a new article should be written. Reference to the palace as 'Dragonara palace' started after world war two and the language problem after indipendence. See also Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Malta) and Palazzo Parisio. They have two different articles for a reason. They are at the same site but one is a palace with its history and the other is a ministry which may move over time. They are not the same thing. Continentaleurope (talk) 10:55, 23 August 2015 (UTC)Continentaleurope

Continentaleurope (talk) 10:55, 23 August 2015 (UTC)
@Continentaleurope: I moved the article as per WP:COMMONNAME. The palace is usually referred to as "Dragonara Palace" not "Palazzo Dragonara", so the more common name should be used. Similarly, Auberge de Bavière is no longer referred to by its original name "Palazzo Carniero", or Fort St. Angelo is no longer known as the "Castrum Maris", and their Wikipedia articles use their common (but not original) names.
By the way, I'm not saying that all articles on palaces should use palace rather than palazzo (eg. Palazzo Parisio is never referred to as Parisio Palace, so its article should use "Palazzo Parisio" and not "Parisio Palace").
If the name "Palazzo Dragonara" becomes more popular over time, then it is perfectly acceptable to use that name on Wikipedia.

This feature will have no effect on your editing, and is simply intended to reduce the workload on new page patrollers. For more information on the patroller right, see Wikipedia:Autopatrolled. Feel free to leave me a message if you have any questions. Happy editing! Swarm 20:44, 8 September 2015 (UTC)

Malta Dockyard

I don't know what your current plans are, but I'd really appreciate it you could put your considerable map-making skills on a map of Malta Dockyard. I'd most like to see where the various drydocks and quays are, mainly during the WW2 period, but an older map would be cool as well. I've enjoyed working with you on your last two GANs; I'd be happy to review any new ones if you ping me about them.--Sturmvogel 66 (talk) 23:37, 17 September 2015 (UTC)

@Sturmvogel 66: First of all, sorry for not replying earlier, I had not seen your message. I don't know a lot about the dockyard, and I'm not that familiar with the Cottonera/Corradino/Marsa area. However, I'll have a look around to see if I can find some information regarding the docks, so I can make a map showing their locations. Xwejnusgozo (talk) 19:30, 25 September 2015 (UTC)
No problem, I know how hard it can be to keep track of everything. Whatever you can do would be appreciated.--Sturmvogel 66 (talk) 19:32, 25 September 2015 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Navy of the Order of Saint John, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Kingdom of Armenia. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Thanks, request

Hi! Thank you for your work on Palazzo Parisio (Valletta); I hope the rewrite will soon be moved into place (I can't do that, but have asked for it to be done.) Nice work! So … I wondered if perhaps you'd like to look at doing the same again, for one or more of Palazzo Parisio (Naxxar), Dragonara Palace and Villa Parisio, all listed at WP:CP for the same reason. Even a very short stub with a couple of proper reliable sources would be better than nothing, and could always be expanded over the years. If you don't have time or the inclination, no problem, I'll try to do something about them next week. Regards, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 22:18, 30 September 2015 (UTC)

@Justlettersandnumbers: Currently I don't have a lot of time to write new articles, but if I find some time, I'll try to rewrite them. Best regards, Xwejnusgozo (talk) 22:40, 30 September 2015 (UTC)
@Justlettersandnumbers: Talk:Villa Parisio/Temp is ready, and I'll continue work on Talk:Palazzo Parisio (Naxxar)/Temp and Talk:Dragonara Palace/Temp as soon as possible :) Xwejnusgozo (talk) 18:23, 1 October 2015 (UTC)

Flags

Hello,

I need to know if some of the municipal flags you uploaded are free to use for country data templates, particularly those of Kalkara and Paola. Thank you.

-NG

@Jerome501: I don't think that they can be used in the country data templates since the images are non-free use (I didn't create the images, they were taken from the Flags of the World website). If someone else uploads a free version of the image, then it should be OK to use it in the template. Best regards, Xwejnusgozo (talk) 19:43, 11 November 2015 (UTC)

ArbCom elections are now open!

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Photos

Are there any photos that you wish me to take? Is there a requested photos list? Continentaleurope (talk) 19:53, 6 December 2015 (UTC)continentaleurope

I will see what I can do. I am paying attention to copyright issues when writing. Palazzo parisio in valletta gave me permission to use the site 'wording' but have no idea where to upload the permission. At this stage we dont need it. There is one specific mistake in it. The palace passed to the british first as a post office then to the maltese goverment. Can bring photos of valletta. I uploaded several photos of palaces and houses in Valletta. Note most of the article I suggested are of important interest. Only few buildings are modern with reasons to suggest them. Also I have uploaded pics on Villa Guardamangia and Augerge de Castile]]. Remove any which you dont like or see fit. Continentaleurope (talk) 20:25, 6 December 2015 (UTC)

Please note this should be Category:Recipients of Midalja għall-Qadi tar-Repubblika - "Recipients" not "Recepients"

Health in Malta

I'm happy to put a short summary in the main article. But I think health merits an article of its own, which I hope to elaborate. Though assistance would be very welcome.Rathfelder (talk) 14:32, 20 December 2015 (UTC)

@Rathfelder: It would be great if you can write a short summary :) I agree that healthcare in Malta merits its own article; unfortunately I don't know a lot about the topic and I don't think I have any books etc about it. However, in the (probably distant) future I intend to create/expand articles on historic hospitals in Malta. I recently created the articles Palazzo Vilhena and Lazzaretto of Manoel Island which both served as hospitals, so there might be some useful info in these articles which can be added to Healthcare in Malta? Xwejnusgozo (talk) 14:49, 20 December 2015 (UTC)
Good. I know very little about Malta, but there is quite a lot of international comparison literature, so we can approach the topic from different points of view. Rathfelder (talk) 14:53, 20 December 2015 (UTC)
@Rathfelder: I'll see what I can do to improve the article. There seems to be some basic information here. The Ministry for Health website also seems to contain useful info. Best regards, Xwejnusgozo (talk) 15:13, 20 December 2015 (UTC)

Testaferrata Gate

Can you help determine which name is appropriate for Testaferrata Gate. On the time of Malta it is said that the door is known as gzira gate or door and officially named Fawwara Gate, but less reliable sources named it Testaferrata Gate for the family who built it.

  • @Continentaleurope: The gate does not seem to have any official name since it was privately built (unlike the Hompesch Gate etc), and the Times of Malta source is just a letter not an article. I personally prefer Fawwara Gate, but I can't really offer an opinion since I didn't even know that the gate existed prior to reading the article. Do you know what the locals call it, or are all four names used? Xwejnusgozo (talk) 22:09, 28 December 2015 (UTC)
  • thanks. Also I dont mind if you find time to improve the article. As you can see my work is very simple while you have much experience in writing here. You wrote very good articles. I uploaded many oics lately which may become in use for some articles i suggest to write about. Thanks again and by the way HaPy HoLiDaYs !!! Continentaleurope (talk) 22:27, 28 December 2015 (UTC)
  • If I have time, I'll see if I can find some more info to include in the article. By the way, your work is very good, and it is definitely improving. Considering that you have edited Wikipedia for less than a year, the quality is impressive. Your latest articles are much better than some of my earlier ones (such as Emvin Cremona and Auberge de Bavière which I wrote 2013-14). Your pics are also very useful in illustrating many articles, some of which had been missing photos for years. Awguri u s-sena t-tajba :) Xwejnusgozo (talk) 22:57, 28 December 2015 (UTC)
