You did a rename on this user to a name which matches an article in the encyclopedia, and the user is asserting he is the subject. Did you do any due diligence about whether the user is the subject? Does this need referred to VRT for verification? —C.Fred (talk) 17:55, 14 November 2022 (UTC)
- I did not. A quick google search didn't show all that many results, but I see this person is indeed notable enough to have their own article, thanks for pointing this out. Is this the bit you think is the user claiming to be the subject, or did I miss another claim? I'll note that the block in question was a soft block and I've been taken to task for imposing additional restrictions prior to unblocking in the past. I say that only to provide context here. What do you think are the next steps? They've had a pointer to WP:COI, do you think they should verify their identity, too? I'm not sure how to proceed. --Yamla (talk) 18:02, 14 November 2022 (UTC)
- See the comment below by an IP and a similar one today. The IP is asserting to be both the user and the subject. So either the IP is impersonating both, or the user is editing without logging in. —C.Fred (talk) 18:06, 14 November 2022 (UTC)
- Earlier today: [1] —C.Fred (talk) 18:07, 14 November 2022 (UTC)
- I'm borderline. The subject may be just obscure enough to let it slide without verification. I don't know that I'm seeing potential damage in this situation. —C.Fred (talk) 18:08, 14 November 2022 (UTC)
- (Happy to discuss over email, if you prefer) I would not normally push for verification in such a case. No offense to Ronald Baecker, who has certainly accomplished far more with his computing science career than I ever did. On the other hand, I certainly think identity verification could be helpful here, both to Dr. Baecker and to Wikipedia generally. My position is that verification isn't required here, but I hold that position weakly. --Yamla (talk) 18:16, 14 November 2022 (UTC)
- I am sorry if there is a misunderstanding. The Subject is Computers and Society. The author is RonaldBaecker. That is the same person ... me ... who is the subject of a Wikipedia page entitled Ronald Baecker. 2600:4041:79C2:6200:2D9A:ECD8:FA21:6B29 (talk) 18:04, 14 November 2022 (UTC)
- 2600:4041:79C2:6200:2D9A:ECD8:FA21:6B29, I believe you are asserting you are the person who controls the account, RonaldBaecker. If so, please log in to that account. Otherwise, we have to consider that there may be two different people involved here and that gets a bit confusing. --Yamla (talk) 18:16, 14 November 2022 (UTC)

ArbCom 2022 Elections voter message
Hello! Voting in the 2022 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 12 December 2022. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
If you wish to participate in the 2022 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}}
to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:26, 29 November 2022 (UTC)
Administrators' newsletter – December 2022
News and updates for administrators from the past month (November 2022).
- Consensus has been found in an RfC to automatically place RfAs on hold after one week.
- The article creation at scale RfC has been closed.
- An RfC on the banners for the December 2022 fundraising campaign has been closed.
- A new preference named "Enable limited width mode" has been added to the Vector 2022 skin. The preference is also shown as a toggle on every page if your monitor is 1600 pixels or wider. When disabled it removes the whitespace added by Vector 2022 on the left and right of the page content. Disabling this preference has the same effect as enabling the wide-vector-2022 gadget. (T319449)
- Eligible users are invited to vote on candidates for the Arbitration Committee until 23:59 December 12, 2022 (UTC). Candidate statements can be seen here.
- The proposed decision for the 2021-22 review of the discretionary sanctions system is open.
- The arbitration case Reversal and reinstatement of Athaenara's block has been closed.
- The arbitration case Stephen has been opened and the proposed decision is expected 1 December 2022.
- A motion has modified the procedures for contacting an admin facing Level 2 desysop.
- Tech tip: A single IPv6 connection usually has access to a "subnet" of 18 quintillion IPs. Add
/64
to the end of an IP in Special:Contributions to see all of a subnet's edits, and consider blocking the whole subnet rather than an IP that may change within a minute.
Message
Message to Yamla: Hello Yamla! Remember the vandal from February-May of 2019, who vandalized the Man in the High Castle. User 69.65.90.61? Yes, that was me! I just want to owe a sincere apology, for edit warring there! It's not about whether I was right or not. I should've gotten the right sources. Anyways, back then I was in 7th Grade. Now I'm in 11th Grade, (High School Junior), and I live in Florida, East Coast, United States. I wasn't mature enough, to know what I could've used, to make myself right. Back in September of 2020, 9th Grade, during COVID time. I found Mapchart, where I can create new maps. April of 2021, I found Pixlr, where I can edit my pictures online. It's a great software! Everything I do is always of good intention, and I only tried to improve Wiki, back in March 2019, 7th Grade, when I was editing the Man in the High Castle. But whether or not I was of good intention, I made a mess, and turned Wikipedia into a battleground, when I could've just used my common sense, and have just used Mapchart and Pixlr, which did exist back in 2019, but I never knew them. But I could've found them, and have made good use of them! Anyways, I was thinking about returning to Wikipedia, and making good edits this time, now that I've matured a lot. My goal is to make Wikipedia better, not worse. Before I make any edits, I will first source the edit, before adding it. If they revert me, I will not fight back, and try to prove who's right, and who's wrong. All those times you blocked me, back in January-May of 2019, when I was in 7th Grade. It will never happen again. Because I'm a changed person now. As a Christian, I vow to do what is always right, and never what is wrong! From now on, I will be an angel to Wikipedia, and never again a demon! This is a promise! Please leave a message on my talk page, if you feel like replying to me! Thanks! ~ — Preceding unsigned comment added by 57.135.184.143 (talk • contribs)
IP User:24.21.161.89
According to this, back in August 2022, you blocked and declined the unblock request of this IP user for, among other things, in the editor's own words "offending gay people." I wish to draw your attention to the fact that this user has blanked out all the warnings on their talk page and made this edit on Respect for Marriage Act for which they were given a final warning by User:Wretchskull. Will it be necessary to go to ANI to apply for a SBAN or is there something you can do as an administrator about this? What do you suggest? I believe more vandalism and nothing but vandalism from this user is guaranteed and that waiting serves no purpose. Thank you for your attention to this matter. Regards. Kire1975 (talk) 10:04, 9 December 2022 (UTC)
- The original block was actually made by Ponyo, I just upgraded the block. But, yeah. I'm going to go block that IP address for six months for WP:LOUTSOCK, given that edit. Enough is enough. Thanks for letting me know. --Yamla (talk) 10:12, 9 December 2022 (UTC)
Block request
Greetings,
On the 12th of December 2019, you gave @Samlaptop85213 a final warning, then on the 13th of December 2019, you blocked him. I recently found this user named @Samtastic950, which appears to be block evasion. Like the original Samlaptop account, he goes by the nickname Samtastic, makes edits to Bop It and lives in the U.K. Please block this user.
- Sincerely, Benjamin Fazzio (PokemonFanboy) PokemonFanboy (talk) 00:56, 14 December 2022 (UTC)
- Seems pretty straight-forward. I'll go block. Thanks. --Yamla (talk) 19:31, 14 December 2022 (UTC)
Suspicious account
Hi there Yamla as you know already I am dealing with the user WazirMadan who I reported for edit warring and breaking revert rules 4 times I am pretty sure this user is also a blocked user by the name of Prince of Roblox [2] they have very similar edit patterns both like stating India in Infobox regarding food [3] as you can see the noon chai article is clearly a target of multiple accounts of one use Prince Of Roblox and the user WazirMadan has made the exact same edits on the page along with Removing Pakistan from articles related to food and Kashmir. How would I report them for being a banned user? Kmartdeeee (talk) 11:53, 19 December 2022 (UTC)
- You have already reported them at WP:ANI. Please let that play out. --Yamla (talk) 12:27, 19 December 2022 (UTC)
- Yes I will thank you just noticed they are likely to also be a sock of the user I mentioned above and the frantic reverts on article on Kashmir is a give away I hope admins address it quickly as they have reverted 5 times now. Kmartdeeee (talk) 12:43, 19 December 2022 (UTC)
Seeking advice
Hi, Yamla. How are you doing these days? I hope this won't take much of your time, but I'm in desperate need of advice. I didn't want drama so decided against posting my concern at ANI or similar place. However, I believe I am being wikibullied and wikihounded by a certain user. If you take a close look at one particular discussion at my talk page, I believe you will get a clearer idea of the nature of my problem. Please, advise me on that. Thank you! I have sent you an email asking for help, but the problem concerned has now been solved, so feel free to ignore it. I'll send a fuller explanation in another email, but I'm posting here so that if you see this first you won't waste time on checking everything in my first email, only to then find out that you didn’t need to. Seeking Intervention
During last couple of days, there have been multiple attempts to delete the content added with citation to reliable source in the Wikipedia Page on China-Pakistan Economic Corridor. A registered user was unblocked per WP:ROPE, seems to be more inclined on deleting the content rather than modifying/improving it. The user talk page conversations revealed that you had previously declined the unblock request. Even though the recent edits on the article appear nonconstructive, I am consciously avoiding calling this incidence as Vandalism. However, just a few days back, on 16 Dec 2022, another blocked IP address user deleted a major portion of article. These cases are highlighted in the article talk page.
Going through the history of article page vis-à-vis user talk/contrib and coming across a pattern, it gives rise to suspicion of Socking. Is there any way to confirm this? The registered user has deleted critical views, warning comments and notices from others on his/her talk page. This seems to be a repeat offender. Does this behavior of deletion and violation of WP:PRESERVE warrant any further action? Anand2202 (talk) 06:01, 5 January 2023 (UTC)

Using Wikipedia for promotion or advertising purposes: Promoting Bruce Nahin against consensus
There is no notice about not mentioning Bruce Nahin. Did you look at the edits? I mostly added books published about Chippendales. You have not addressed what I mentioned. 0mtwb9gd5wx (talk) 13:12, 7 January 2023 (UTC)
- You are free to make a new unblock request and another admin will review it. I very strongly suggest you review WP:GAB before doing so. --Yamla (talk) 13:22, 7 January 2023 (UTC)
Merging tempaltes of sockpuppetry and banned
Greetings, Yamla. I have made an edit on User:Cbauman12 to merge these two templates. If I make a mistake, please feel free to revert. For Template:Sockpuppeteer, you can directly add banned while using this template. Lemonaka (talk) 23:04, 9 January 2023 (UTC)
- That's a very reasonable edit. Thanks! --Yamla (talk) 00:11, 10 January 2023 (UTC)
Blanking
For what it's worth, I've always thought that was a silly policy. Removing the block notice doesn't change the block and anyone who wants to know the details can see it in the page history or the block log so if I spot a blocked user blanking their talk page I usually just ignore it. The drawbacks of provoking someone we want to go away don't seem worth the benefits of enforcing policy for its own sake. YMMV. Best, HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 14:31, 11 January 2023 (UTC)
- The obvious problem is if a user keeps on blanking their declines while continuing to make new requests, it's not immediately obvious and imposes a further burden on unblock reviewers. That was the case here (the unblock request came in through UTRS). I'm definitely not saying you are wrong, though. You bring up a very good point. A balance where they get to blank the declined requests so long as they leave the project, that'd work. That wasn't the case here, but it'd work. I don't see how that could be implemented, though. :( --Yamla (talk) 22:10, 12 January 2023 (UTC)
Concern about bias of a user
It seems that the user called Pngeditor has been misappropriating sources and twisting them to their point of view, for example in the Mercaz Harav article, before I reverted their edit it said that many of their students promoted Israeli settlements, where in the source it does not say that. They also wrote that the students were opposed to any territorial compromise which it did not say in the source. Salandarianflag (talk) 22:47, 12 January 2023 (UTC)
- That user was already blocked yesterday. --Yamla (talk) 22:55, 12 January 2023 (UTC)
Hunter b1107
Hello, I just stumbled across the TP of Hunter b1107 just now that was asking to be unblocked. Do we not offer 'second chances' around this sort of thing? It seems like they are interested in changing their ways at the very least... I don't know, just comes across as somewhat harsh to me the way the conversation degraded towards the end and the fact that they will now 'never' have a shot at getting their account back? TY — Moops ⋠T⋡ 17:39, 13 January 2023 (UTC)
- This user was offered a second chance. They were also told about WP:SO. They have a chance to contest their block in the future, though I'll oppose it. Obviously I won't be the reviewing admin in that case, though. --Yamla (talk) 17:40, 13 January 2023 (UTC)
- Oh, I take it back, they weren't told about WP:SO. However, they were given a future path toward being unblocked. Repeatedly. --Yamla (talk) 17:41, 13 January 2023 (UTC)
- Moops, let me know if you'd like me to unprotect the talk page. I'm happy to do so, so long as you commit to responding to this user and so long as you can figure out some way to stop them making repeated, pointless unblock requests. --Yamla (talk) 17:50, 13 January 2023 (UTC)
- Yamla, I was not vested and am not going to commit to looking after them or anything like that. If you want to unprotect their talk page, maybe, but if it seems truly pointless and you believe they will only senselessly waste everyone's time, then leave it be. TY — Moops ⋠T⋡ 16:27, 16 January 2023 (UTC)
Month-old unblock request with no response.
Greetings,
My name is Gtgamer79 and I am writing to respectfully request that my unblock request be reviewed once again. One month ago, I was blocked for "copyright violations" and, in my initial unblock request, I was asked to answer five questions regarding copyright. I provided thorough answers, but two of my responses were deemed incorrect and my request was denied. Since then, I have submitted a new unblock request with even more detailed and accurate information, but have yet to receive a response.
I understand that there is a wait list for unblock requests, but I have been closely monitoring the Requests for unblock page and have noticed that numerous requests have been reviewed and responded to, even if they were posted just days prior. I would greatly appreciate it if my unblock request could also be reviewed, as I believe it to be straightforward and easy to understand.
I am eager to return to contributing to the free encyclopedia and would greatly appreciate any assistance in this matter.
Thank you for your time and consideration. 118.137.86.143 (talk) 13:41, 19 January 2023 (UTC)
- If your unblock request is not sufficiently convincing for any admin to take action, you should rewrite your unblock request. I will not be reviewing your request as I have already declined an earlier request from you. Note that evading your block, as you have done here, is a terrible idea. --Yamla (talk) 13:51, 19 January 2023 (UTC)

Apology A Few Years Later
Hello. I just want to talk about my disgusting behaviour on the Alex Hirsch page a few years ago. I do not know why I did that but I just want to start new. Do you know if there is any way I can delete this account and make a new one. I frankly am not going to edit anything on that old page, especially not stuff like that anyway. I am more of a reader of Wikipedia rather than an editor. Tyler Michael Mannix (talk) 07:36, 20 January 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks. You are eligible for a clean start; WP:CLEANSTART has the details. Note you are also permitted to simply remove all the warnings, including the block notice and declined unblock request, from your user talk page if you wish. You are not blocked and haven't been for years. --Yamla (talk) 10:59, 20 January 2023 (UTC)

Re: Raymondskie's ban appeal
Sorry, I should have spoken up earlier. I had done some research, and while I don't have as complete of a picture as I would have liked, I was strongly inclined to support unbanning him. You had said you were going to ask for an unlock so that he could participate in the discussion, so I was waiting for an update on that front, and then became distracted by real life preoccupations. Do you know anything about that process? My main concern is that I don't want the stewards to decline an unlock appeal premised on participating in a ban appeal because a ban appeal isn't currently in progress; I'm not sure what their thought process would be. —Compassionate727 (T·C) 16:45, 2 February 2023 (UTC)
- Understood. You should leave a message on the user's talk page. I'd be okay with bringing it to WP:AN once again if they are able to get globally unlocked. Frankly, this is the first time I've dealt with both a ban and a global lock. --Yamla (talk) 18:07, 2 February 2023 (UTC)

On the unblock appeal the symbol(s) posted in the request links to a Wikipedia article explaining that those symbols translate to a pejorative term, whether this was intentional from the user I'm not 100% sure. Just thought I'd let you know. StarryNightSky11 ☎ 01:10, 3 February 2023 (UTC)

no idea what to do with those that remain. -- Deepfriedokra (talk) 09:49, 16 February 2023 (UTC)
- I'll take a pass over those either today or tomorrow and try to be decisive. If you have any thoughts for general approaches, I would love to hear them. One of my goals for 2023 is to smooth out the whole unblock process. --Yamla (talk) 18:01, 18 February 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks. Great. -- Deepfriedokra (talk) 23:34, 18 February 2023 (UTC)
sockputppet
Hi can you create this sockpuppet investigation for me Wikipedia talk:Sockpuppet investigations/18823 Croatia? It's very urgent 24.180.22.222 (talk) 23:42, 21 February 2023 (UTC)
- No, I can't. I obviously don't have any of the necessary information to file the report. --Yamla (talk) 10:41, 22 February 2023 (UTC)
Actually,
that description of me was pretty accurate. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ -- Deepfriedokra (talk) 10:44, 22 February 2023 (UTC)
- Lol. Sorry to hear it. :) --Yamla (talk) 10:46, 22 February 2023 (UTC)
Master?
Who is Minani227? I just blocked Justauser4581 as a sock of Minani227, but don't want to tag the account that way. BTW, I also suspect Templateor11. The only connection I have, besides the similarity in username, is that Templateor11 created a template (deleted by me), and Justauser4581 asked that the template be protected at WP:RFPP. Thanks for hopefully illuminating all this.--Bbb23 (talk) 16:12, 23 February 2023 (UTC)
- It's a WP:GOODHAND account to a bunch of throw-away vandal accounts (except I'm not convinced it's particularly good). Yeap, Templateor11 which I'll go and block. Some of the other vandal socks are as follows:

- Wow. I'll take a look later about tagging. If I do tag, do you have a preference as to suspected, proven, or confirmed?--Bbb23 (talk) 17:57, 23 February 2023 (UTC)
- Safe to go with confirmed for all of the above. --Yamla (talk) 18:12, 23 February 2023 (UTC)
- Based on your list, the oldest account is Hajimesuku. However, many of the accounts were already tagged per Category:Wikipedia sockpuppets of Lachskai. See also Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Lachskai, which happens to be open right now with a CU request. Because Hajimesuku is older than Lachskai, I continued tagging and/or retagging as appropriate and finished your list. There are, though, still accounts in the Lachskai category that I felt uncomfortable touching because they weren't on your list. Also, to tidy this up, I think we have to move the Lachskai case to Hajimesuku as the master. Did you want to look at the SPI report and see if the alleged sock is confirmed? I can make the request for a clerk to move the case, but your chiming in would lend some weight to the request. Thanks.--Bbb23 (talk) 18:52, 23 February 2023 (UTC)
- Happy to do so. I'll chime in later today (in the next four hours). Thanks for all your work here. --Yamla (talk) 19:01, 23 February 2023 (UTC)

Kodfounder, 20 upper et al
Where do I find the SPI for:
- Kodfounder (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · page moves · block user · block log)
- 20 upper (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · page moves · block user · block log)
Like Kodfounder, User:Real4jyy is focused on space articles, and like 20 upper, they seem to be editing to increase edit count. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 12:39, 24 February 2023 (UTC)
- There's no SPI, they were discovered during an unblock request over at User talk:Kodfounder. You are free to create one, though. If so, please ping me and I'll take a look. --Yamla (talk) 12:46, 24 February 2023 (UTC)

blocked IP address
Hi there! You declined to unblock my IP address on the basis that is a confirmed P2P proxy - this is not something I have myself implemented. It could be due to my ISP. Pls lmk how to address this so I can have my account unblocked please? I'm the regional ambassador for Art+Feminism in South Asia, so this is very inconvenient, as I'm sure you can appreciate! hope we can resolve this asap. Prm 1302 (talk) 05:06, 9 March 2023 (UTC)
- As you are able to edit this page, you are no longer blocked. For future reference, Template:Blocked p2p proxy has all the details. --Yamla (talk) 10:24, 9 March 2023 (UTC)
nmap
Thanks for pointing out the need for -Pn. I have not used nmap for several years, and when I did use it in the past I almost always did so via zenmap, where such matters are handled by the graphical interface, so I didn't need to take much notice of the actual command line options. Also what I did know about them I have forgotten in the time that has elapsed since I last used it. However, for some reason I can't install zenmap on my current computer, so I am having to learn how to do it all manually, and so far I'm at a very early stage of doing so. JBW (talk) 22:41, 10 March 2023 (UTC)
- No problem. Thanks for checking. I'm largely a command-line person myself. I'm surprised zenmap isn't working for you, though. My guess is you are on a non-Intel MacOS, but I'm often wrong when making such guesses. :) --Yamla (talk) 22:46, 10 March 2023 (UTC)
- I'm actually on Ubuntu. I have installed and used zenmap before on several computers running Ubuntu, without problems, but this time trying to install it produces a message telling me that I "have held broken packages", and I have no idea how to deal with that. JBW (talk) 22:56, 10 March 2023 (UTC)
my recent visitation
I used to feel jealous and less then because the LTA's never bothered me. Now I feel real. Now I feel seen. -- Deepfriedokra (talk) 09:29, 22 March 2023 (UTC)
- There are plenty of LTAs to go around! Pretty soon, you'll be getting your multiple daily death threats, too. Oh joyous day! I do wish I had specific advice to share for dealing with them, but it mostly just boils down to the 'I' part of WP:RBI. :) --Yamla (talk) 09:32, 22 March 2023 (UTC)
IP block
I saw your message on my talk page that I need to fill in the template field so that my block could be found. Can you please elaborate more on that? Marvelousola01 (talk) 13:29, 28 March 2023 (UTC)
- No need. If you are able to edit this page, you are not blocked. --Yamla (talk) 14:02, 28 March 2023 (UTC)
