Surely there are books about this sort of thing. Dream Focus 01:31, 11 May 2013 (UTC)
We have found a few sources for House Do'Urden and House Baenre, but we need some more. Useful sources may mention either or both of the houses, or any of the characters listed on those pages such as Liriel Baenre and Zaknafein Do'Urden. They are all characters from various Forgotten Realms novels, so they might be mentioned in book reviews for the books they have appeared in. BOZ (talk) 02:29, 14 May 2013 (UTC)

Are you planning on contesting it?A Quest For Knowledge (talk) 14:53, 14 May 2013 (UTC) - BTW, that was the only source I can find. Unless there's sources in foreign languages, it probably doesn't meet WP:GNG. A Quest For Knowledge (talk) 14:58, 14 May 2013 (UTC)

- If you are contesting it, why aren't you just removing the CSD? Anyone can decline a CSD except the article creator. Or are you guys under some sort of restriction? Gaijin42 (talk) 15:19, 14 May 2013 (UTC)
- I've never contested a speedy delete before. I'm unfamiliar with the process. I assumed an uninvolved admin would make the decision of what to do next. Anyway, it looks like someone removed the notice. A Quest For Knowledge (talk) 15:33, 14 May 2013 (UTC)

- Anyone can remove a speedy delete notice, except the person who created the page (or in some cases the primary editor if they aren't the same person). You only have to "contest" the speedy via text like you did if you are the creator. If you think the speedy was inappropriate but it still deserves possible deletion attention, its courteous to replace the CSD with a PROD or AFD, but that is not mandatory, and whoever did the initial speedy nomination often does. Once removed the same speedy nomination cannot be replaced. (for the notability reasons etc. Copyright/vandalism/etc can be reapplied I believe) There is some confusion about if a different nomination reason can be applied or if all are invalid at that point. Gaijin42 (talk) 15:56, 14 May 2013 (UTC)

Everything on the list has referenced sources backing it up. Some sources for a few of the many entries are now in question on the talk page. Dream Focus 15:13, 21 May 2013 (UTC)
- So what do you want the rescue squad to do for you? If the sources already exist, it really just seems like you're here to WP:Canvass for some arguments in your favor, which is not the proper use of this list.--Yaksar (let's chat) 16:02, 22 May 2013 (UTC)

- If people question some sources, then help finding new ones would be useful. Also finding books from throughout the ages talking about polymaths, or referring to people on the list as one, helps prove they should be there. There is a Category:HIV/AIDS_in_literature showing some books with their own Wikipedia articles already. Currently the list has a problem with non-notable entries. If anyone wants to do some work on this, I think the article could be saved. In its current state however, not much chance for that. Dream Focus 16:27, 26 May 2013 (UTC)

Interesting one this... I noticed the deletion nomination on Wikipedia:WikiProject Scotland/Article alerts and it caught my attention because I had been to see the band a couple of times in the late nineties and bought their album (no idea where it is now). To be fair, the article was in terrible shape and looked like it had been written by a band member or fan, and has thus been dismissed as a vanity article about a "Myspace" band. This is a Scottish band that did at least one UK tour and one US tour (or at least played a series of dates in the US), as well as a BBC Radio Scotland live session. They should satisfy WP:MUS in spades.
That said, I'm having difficulty locating online references, presumably because they broke up eight years ago and these things have a shelf life. I've found a review in an old copy of Is This Music, a couple of paragraphs in a book The Great Scots Musicography, a mention in ShortList magazine (probably trivial: the guitarist is asked about a hotel they stayed in during their US tour) and I'm aware of a review in The Courier (a fairly major newspaper in the East of Scotland, has a larger circulation than the Scotsman or Herald). There should be more, but it's proving elusive. Any suggestions? Catfish Jim and the soapdish 15:26, 29 May 2013 (UTC)
Some have mentioned the list just needs sourcing to prove those on it are "pundits". I've added some already. Help would be appreciated. Dream Focus 17:27, 3 June 2013 (UTC)
- That misrepresents the delete arguments. I cannot see a single one of the 12 delete votes currently posted which says "the list just needs sourcing to prove those on it are "pundits"". Which votes are you referring to? The thrust of the deletion arguments points to the vagueness of the inclusion criteria - sourcing is hardly an issue. If you are going to call for action here, at least be accurate in describing the issues, please, before inviting people to spend time "solving" a sourcing issue that does not address the problem. Begoon talk 18:57, 3 June 2013 (UTC)
- Some people did mention the lack of references as a problem. Read through the AFD discussion, that appears multiple times. Anyway, too late now, its been deleted. Dream Focus 21:17, 4 June 2013 (UTC)
In my opinion, the article should be salvaged and saved. One problem is that "pundit" is a horrible title that rubs many people the wrong way. However, the article should be focused on mainstream broadcast media commentators, which has been an important part of TV cable news in the US since the 1990s. The article should have been called "List of political commentators", which now links back to "Pundit" (really??!!!). Crtew (talk) 10:23, 4 June 2013 (UTC)
- We have Category:Political pundits with six subcategories in it listing pundits. Kind of odd people are more tolerate of categories than list, since list can have references. The other article nominated at the same time, List of pundits in the United States, was rather well referenced for its entries. Dream Focus 21:16, 4 June 2013 (UTC)

- Unlike the other article, this case got 130,000 people to sign a petition. If anyone in Canada remembers news coverage of this, please mention any politicians that made a comment on it, or any new laws that might be created based on the petition. This church has received far more coverage than is required by our notability guidelines. In addition to the two books and eight newspaper articles currently cited in the article, a quick Google News search reveals plenty of potential sources for this article. Any help in adding them would be greatly appreciated. Neelix (talk) 15:27, 13 June 2013 (UTC)
- It has not received "far more coverage than is required by our notability guidelines", and that observation has been made at its AfD and related ones also authored by User:Neelix, not just by myself. The citations given are non-notable community feature/advertorial copy, plus self-referential books apparently by congregation members, used to back up completely non-notable content that is entirely promotional in purpose, and all related to the Tara Teng article which though she is notable (Miss Canada) the body of the article and the endless over-citations are about trivial content that are WP:UNDUE. Neelix obstinately continues to claim that non-notable citations are somehow notable because he says so, but given the "nesting" of these articles, which are all over-written and spam-like and in Teng's case UNDUE content in extremis, and their very recent creation and sole authorship by Neelix, this posting here is an attempt to WP:POLL support for his cause.....and yes, it's a cause, and that implies other things. The articles are SPAM, NOTNEWS, LOCAL....and very like COI, though he denies this, though circumstantial evidence to the contrary abounds on Talk:Heritage Grill and Talk:Five Stones Church, which are part of this "nest".Skookum1 (talk) 17:15, 13 June 2013 (UTC)

In past AfD nominations, it claims to be supported by numerous reliable third party sources which was why it survived those nominations yet nobody got off their backsides to deal with the article's problems, which made the article a sitting duck for AfD, I doubt this article have ever progressed from being more like a statement for a student society, hence why I referred it to here. - I read through the four previous AFDs, and apparently since they are the oldest ski competition in the world, and they get coverage for this, they are considered notable. Dream Focus 14:28, 15 June 2013 (UTC)
Article was in a bad state indeed when nominated, I started to refactor/add content and refs it to make it suitable. This is in line with stuff like Timeline of inventions. I feel this can be successfully rescued. --Cyclopiatalk 17:18, 16 June 2013 (UTC)
Sorting through all the book results for her, and looking for news articles that aren't hidden behind paywalls, is taking some time. If anyone wants to help, just click some random book results and see if they say enough about her to count, then check to see if those books are considered notable enough to matter. This is up for deletion again by an editor who didn't get his way last time, and is claiming that the only reason it was saved last time from deletion was because of "being ARS canvassed". - WP:PORNBIO number 1, you just need to show proof she has been nominated for significant awards in her industry. Google her name and that of each award, or check the official website of these awards for her name. I searched for "Sarah Jessie" "nominated" "awards" and see some places claiming she was nominated for various awards, but nothing specific found yet. You'll have to do some searching. Thank you for your response. I'm not that good with using google or search engines. How do I go about this again? Herzlicheboy (talk) 19:36, 4 August 2013 (UTC)
- Just go to Google. Type in "AVN Awards" "nominee" "Sarah Jessie". You can also type in site:www.avn.com "AVN Awards" to search that website for its awards and see if she won anything. Keep looking around the results until you find something. I didn't see anything straight away, their webpage not well organized. You can also go to her official website at http://www.vipsarahjessie.com and click the contact button to ask her. I don't see her listing any award nominations on her site though. The nominator thinks that the "Wikipedia:Wikipedia is not a dictionary" policy is violated. In my opinion, the references however clearly show that the topic of the article is not only a word, but a notable concept, first known mainly in Japanese culture, then internationally. I have expanded the article to explain this, but more sources could be added to explain this even more clearly. Furthermore, WP:WORDISSUBJECT perhaps applies here. - We need more help with this article, since an AfD tag is now on the article. There is quite a bit of information about Circular arc hulls and the Swedish nautical engineer Fredrik Ljungström who invented them, it is just a question of creating appropriate references on the article to disprove the notability allegation.
- Given that our article on the Ljungstrom sailboat is largely concerned with the hull, and given that the hull design seems to have been used for nothing else but sailing boats, I would suggest merging the hull article with the one on the boat. A historical wordprocessor for the Amiga series of computers. Heated AfD full of suspected sockpuppetry and/or canvassing and/or Amiga fanboys etc., but underneath it all is an article which seems (from my more neutral point of view as someone who doesn't know much about Amigas) to have some potential, if editors can sort the wheat from the chaff in the recently added references, work them into the article properly, make it NPOV, and ultimately distill what exactly was most notable about this software. The software's author seems to be in breach of a few wiki guidelines, but I'd be inclined to say never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity and encourage interested parties to see if the article can be fixed regardless of how other editors have behaved. Silas S. Brown (email, talk) 19:53, 24 August 2013 (UTC)
- My name is Michael Haephrati and I am the creator of this software and the editor of some of the contents of the article (especially the latest). I made some mistakes along the way. I certainly have a lot to learn, but I do wish to learn and find the Wikipedia platform extremely fascinating. I indeed canvased once, trying to get the attention of other Amiga fans offsite. I then revised my post and apologized in my Talk page. There aren't any sockpuppeteers in the AwD page. I looked at the changes made by Mr. Silas Brown. He removed a link to my personal blog and placed sources form reliable news papers and magazines. I accept these changes and am happy for the help I have received here. The article indeed looks better now. I would appreciate any help with this article in the future. Thanks for giving me the chance to fix the flaws in this article. M. H. 20:24, 24 August 2013 (UTC)
- Remember, to find old magazines that have been out of print for a while, you just Google for their name, and look around for archives. - Its fine for anyone to ask for help getting an article into shape, finding better references, expanding it, etc. It is what we do here. Please assume good faith and don't make accusations against someone. Since there are thousands of cases of animal cruelty that are mentioned in the news each year, I don't think you can possibly list all of them. If someone could find cases that were notable based on them resulting in sufficiently large protest or petitions, or having elected officials pass stronger laws based on them, then the article would be valid for Wikipedia. This article isn't up for deletion, but in its current state it's almost begging to be. It was gutted earlier this year of a lot of unsourced and PR-ish content, but what was left behind fails to assert any notability or importance. My feeling is that those probably exist but aren't documented adequately in either the article or its history; perhaps the ARS would be willing to do some digging to find new sources or verify the old ones in the pre-gutting version of the article, so that the article can become an article again? Sorry if this isn't how you do things; I don't work in ARS-related areas usually but it struck me that you guys are good at dredging up sources, and that's what this article lacks. A fluffernutter is a sandwich! (talk) 16:40, 7 November 2013 (UTC)

There are several lists of this sort at AFD. This one has a good historical perspective but needs some help to convince the nay-sayers. Reading a fine source on the subject, I learn that "In 1640, the colony passed a regulation that a person should not be "allowed to brew beer unless he is a good brewer." Some brewers of good articles are wanted... Andrew (talk) 12:48, 18 January 2014 (UTC)
Declined prods
I've recently declined the proposals for deletion (prods) for the following articles.
I've added sources to the articles that demonstrate topic notability, have performed some copy editing and the addition of inline citations. The articles would benefit from additional improvements, if anyone visiting here is interested in helping out. Thank you for your consideration. Northamerica1000(talk) 14:19, 18 January 2014 (UTC)

- Phil Robertson GQ interview controversy (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs|google) AfD discussion
- Anyone feel like working on this? The constant editing on the Duck Dynasty page, and the Phil Robertson article, about this issue, caused one editor to simply make a separate page for it. Sorting through news coverage of this controversy to show how wide spread its been, not just a brief weekly coverage and then forgotten, and its effects on thing, would be useful. I haven't seen anyone list exactly what the interviewer asked to get the answers he did for the blacks comment, that necessary to take things into context. Anyone seen anything about that? - It's a 90 year old organisation put up by a newbie who's put more of an essay than something with sources. Should be savable even if it needs a rewrite almost from the top.
We don't often get images here but we ought to pay more attention to these as the bureaucracy around this is so unpleasant that few users master it and the encyclopedia suffers greatly as a result. In this case, the image is of author and preservationist Nicholson Baker who has written excellent accounts of his ARS work: How I fell in love with Wikipedia; Nicholson Baker’s Last Stand. The photo was taken by his son Elias and posted by the subject himself. That ought to be enough but we now have a busybody insisting on some hoop-jumping. But we also have a policy that Wikipedia is not a bureaucracy. What to do ...? Andrew (talk) 11:56, 9 March 2014 (UTC)

- The Scouring of the Shire (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs|google) AfD discussion
- Spoiler! When the hobbits of the fellowship return to the Shire they find that their bucolic home has been despoiled. Men hungry for power and motivated by malice have moved in to bully the good-natured population using talk of progress and "the Rules" as pretexts. Pimple Baggins is the nominal leader as it "seems he wanted to own everything himself, and then order other folk about". Those who protested were cast into lockholes or worse. But our valiant heroes defeat this evil and good sense is restored. Then to put matters right, "there were thousands of willing hands of all ages, from the small and nimble ones of the hobbit lads and lasses to the well-worn and horny ones of the gaffers and gammers." The users who have been contributing to this AfD thus far believe that Roger Cram is a hoax because they are unable to access the relevant newspaper articles, which are not available to the public online but only either in print or through subscription-only databases. If anyone has access to journal/newspaper databases such as Factiva, I would be grateful if you would search for articles about Roger Cram (the college professor, not the lawyer) and then attempt to convince the other users that Roger Cram actually exists, is notable, and is not a hoax. - Some didn't understand what "large aircraft" meant, thinking "large" was too vague. I added to the article: The Federal Aviation Administration defines a large aircraft as any aircraft of more than 12,500 pounds as its maximum certificated takeoff weight. [10] Most arguments come from the starter of the AFD who created a separate article Large aircraft last month, and people who don't understand the inclusion criteria. - Unreliable source
- Not third-party

- Maybe your tenacious editing behavior will become an argument to make. For example you respond to nearly every !vote and nearly always have the last word even if it means dozens of replies. Your arguments are often novel and non-standard like the nomination of this AfD. You are seemingly obsessed with this one article, to the point of being blocked at least once for 3RR. You constantly dissmiss and ignore arguments made by other people by citing a gobbledygook of essay acronyms, despite the very same essay Introduction says don't do that, and ignore other editors who try to kindly inform you about it. This AfD is further solidifying a base of people working against you, in part due to your poor behavior, which you probably can't see, except in its effects: lots of Keep votes. -- GreenC 21:38, 12 May 2014 (UTC)
