Remember a Day Darryl Read pages

Dear Team/Editors There seems to be a problem regarding the Darryl Read page I created, this page has been established here for three years, and has been adjusted in firstly creating it to Wiki criteria. In the last week, we have been continually harassed by LondonClanger and an administrator called Michig , with pages we created (Crushed Butler, Tiger (the group), Darryl Read, Remember a Day which LondonClanger requested to be deleted as well as multiple adjustments over a years period to all pages mentioned. He has sought the help of Michig, to sanction a deletion, and Michig has then gone on to try to question the Darryl Read page already established with you for 3 years, and get us to supply - in my opinion unnecessary; further sources and citations. I cant help thinking that both LondonClanger & Michig are using intellectual sabotage methods for other reasons other than improving articles for Wikipedia. In this aspect, I should like to register a complaint, regarding both LondonClanger and Michig - for misuse of administrative powers here on Wikipedia. Please check their talks and edits - especially LondonClanger's over a considerable period of time on (Crushed Butler, Tiger (the group), Darryl Read, pages. I am trying to communicate and resolve everything with Michig currently, but felt it now necessary to get further help from you on all. I see from your other posts that you ,CatWizard777, are Darryl Read and his publicity rep, Clive Zone. Please read Wikipedia:Conflict of interest. As it says there, you are strongly discouraged from creating articles related to Darryl Read or from editing them directly. If you would like to make changes to these articles, you should propose the changes on article talk pages.

There is no sharing here whatsoever or people working for Darryl Read's publicity. I used to be Mr Read's publicist 12 years ago, but am no longer. I made the page from knowledge I collected over the years of Mr Read's extensive career, and felt that I could archive some history into the Wiki encyclopedia. Appears a lot of mudslinging and vitriol is being thrown my way by CatWizard777. All these accusations are wholly unwarranted and inaccurate, and others border on being rather abusive. Thankfully, I have a thick skin and it’s all a water off a duck’s back to me (nothing better that mixing metaphors...). For the record I merely commented on WP:Articles for deletion/Remember a Day (2000 film) and my recommendation re: WP:Articles for deletion/The Orange Illusion was reviewed by other editors. I’ve not recommended any other deletions – Michig has commented on Darryl Read and this has zero to do with me. There are several issues with conflict of interest on articles edited by CatWizard777 and I’ve been attempting over time to rewrite/update/copyedit where possible with a neutral tone – clearly something that CatWizard’s PR team (as it appears a few people use this login) have taken umbrage with. Your points have been taken a were over a year ago when you started to make adjustments to all of Darryl Read's connected pages, an example was to insistently change the name of Tiger (the group) to Tiger, or Tiger band. I featured the name Tiger (the group) - to differentiate it from other bands with similar names, or not confusing it with the animal. You have constantly tried to remover detail from the pages connected with Read, that have been three years in standing on Wikipedia. You seemingly have dabbled with all the Read's connected pages, and yes made some corrections, but mainly have tried to cut out detail of quality. I can only think that when and editor continually tries to cut out works, or make them appear trivial - that they have some sort of grudge. All this in your persistence has created waves, and got pages finally deleted. So, no mudslinging - just fact! I am now working in a friendly way with other editors here to rectify the whole situation, especially with Remember a Day and existing work of merit, back from the workspace, as well as other edits - now necessary on other of Read related pages. May I suggest you review the policy on linking within articles - that may help clear up your misunderstanding re:Tiger and why I make the changes I do (perhaps another editor can also point out the methodology). I'll continue to edit any article where I see imrovements can be made - all are made with the best intentions for readers. I do not have any conflict of interest with the articles and I edit hundreds not just ones that mention Mr. Read. It's clear to me, and I'd say most editors, that your violations of the conflict of interest policy has potentially had a detrimental effect on articles and led to Michig posting the necessary warnings. Miching did this and not me (though I support his comments wholeheartedly). There is no conspiracy here. There is no "intellectual sabotage". It's just editors and interested parties doing what thousands of editors do on a daily basis - improve Wikipedia for everyone. I dare say you'd like to have a lenghty ongoing rapport about "your pages" but please remember you don't "own" them, they are in the public domain for anyone to improve. If you want to challenge an update, but all means do so, discussion and talk pages are there for that purpose. Collaboration and understanding are the way to go and I'm all for that - I suggest you join us on the ride. As for deletions, new articles that add little to Wikipedia are challeged and removed. French-German or German-French? Dutch-Belgian or Belgian-Dutch?

When there's a person who holds both French and German citizenship/nationality, do we refer to that person a French-German or German-French same goes for a person who holds Dutch and Belgian citizenship/nationality I know I already found it somewhere here in Wikipedia but I can't remember where. I would probably say "Franco-German", because "Franco-" is a very well established prefix (like "Anglo-" and "Sino-"), but I know of no rule either in Wikipedia or generally that forbids "German-French" (or indeed "French-German"). --ColinFine (talk) 19:30, 15 January 2012 (UTC)

How do I add names to a list on the above Category page? [1]. There are at least a dozen reknowned Flemish Authors, that have articles, two of them Noble Prize winners, that are not listed. I see you added Category:Flemish people to some people who were already in Category:Flemish writers. We usually don't duplicate like that. See more at Wikipedia:Categorization of people. I don't understand how it is ok

That you will put one company into the wiipedia directory but a company of the exact same genre gets deleted. if this is the case I want to know why. and you can guarantee if this is how you do business here I will not be donating nothing to your website or to your pockets. So I want to know why this is what happened. And no I did not do the article myself. Here is the page

We do not have articles about every single company in a branche/genre and that is not our goal. We have articles about companies that are considered to be notable; and they are considered notable because they have received significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject. The deleted article read so much like an advertisement made by the company that it made me cringe. I find it hard to imagine anybody could write that stuff without having the goal of advertising the company. The article creation was the only edit by the author. I looked at some articles linked at Comparison of online dating websites. None of them resembled the deleted article the least bit. PrimeHunter (talk) 00:43, 16 January 2012 (UTC)

There is no such thing as a "Wikipedia directory"; in fact, we explicitly declare that "Wikipedia is not a directory service"! We try to have articles on the more notable members of a category; but on a planet of over seven billion people and rising, we can't cover them all. Moving images from Commons to en.Wikipedia

Some images were mistakenly uploaded to Commons and are now under threat of deletion due to there being no freedom of panorama. I would like to move them to Wikipedia so they can continue to be used in articles here under a claim of fair use (and with suitable rationales of course). If the image was originally uploaded here, then contact the deleting admin, explain the issue and ask for undeletion. If there is no response, then list it at Wikipedia:Deletion review. No, the image was not uploaded to en.Wikipedia first. It was uploaded straight to Commons. The uploader is not very active at all and, apart from a brief flurry of activity in November, has never returned. Can I simply upload it to en.Wikipedia as if it was my own, then change the name of the author to the original uploader, or is there a better way to do this. Suicide Article

I am a complete novice and don't know how to insert what I propose into this article. Please assist.

Suicidal people are highly likely to be viewers of this page.

Please insert a warning or helpful note/links regarding suicide prevention or mental health at the top of the article. Something bold and colorful that is easy to see like a big picture or button or other attention-getter. The idea being that rather than just inspiration or confirmation of a method to die, one may also see words of discouragement from suicide and some links to mental health info. "Hey click here to find someone to talk to about suicide" with the link being a suicide hotline etc. I don't know what would be appropriate considering the broad use of Wikipedia, but hopefully you get the idea. does wikipedia have a policy against links to newsreels?

I linked to some newsreels in the US government's FedFlix database at archive.org but a user deleted them as peripherally-related.

For example, on the Shasta Dam page, I added a link to a newsreel which included the inauguration of the Shasta Dam

The Wikipedia guidelines on external links apply to all kinds of external links. If Binksternet (talk · contribs) is correct in saying that the film only covers the topic trivially, then the link does not belong as an external link. If the film has something useful to say about the dam, then you could perhaps include that in the article and cite the video as your source. Yes, that's the key point. Does the newsreel film say something useful about the dam or is it fluffy "news lite" material without lasting value? I removed the link because I determined it was the latter. If something can be saved from the newsreel I would be more than happy to see it cited as a source for a good fact. Twinkle

Normally, while nominating a page for deletion, I use twinkle to do the needful. But I have noticed that in certain non-protected pages, the option does not appear next to "Add to your watchlist" and "move page". I am using the vector skin right now. location of ram mandir, Peterborough

I visited the list of Hindu Temples in England & found the Ram Mandir Peterborough is in South West region. It should actually be in East Midlands according to the regions specified in the list. I will appreciate if the error is amended.

Audio files autoplay

I think it's fairly obvious that UnittMD is asking how to accomplish an editing related task (or indeed if it is even possible) on Wikipedia. That is exactly what this page is for. My answer is just a guess, but I think it would be unlikely for audio files being auto played in articles to be considered acceptable. fredgandt 17:39, 15 January 2012 (UTC)

To my surprise, I did not find a discussion of this issue. I may not have searched thoroughly. I would expect this to be discouraged, under WP:ASTONISH.

If it hasn't been discussed, it may be because the preferred way to include an audio file is with {{Listen}}, which doesn't seem to have an autoplay option.

Thanks for the support guys. I wasn't aware of Listen, which comes close to offering a solution, but currently lacks autoplay. It is UK law, Disability and Descrimination Act (DDA)*, that web sites are required to be ‘accessible’ to the visually impaired (amongst others) . I think Wikipedia should encourage compliance by ensuring an <audio> feature is made available on each and every page that is created. The HTML5 <audio>autoplay feature would seem a very simple route to compliance.

Somewhere in amongst the many Wikipedia guidelines and policies I read about site accessibility re concerns of "taking control of the reader's browser" and how it was not the correct thing to do. I hope not. While disability provision is a good thing, having the page autoplay any audio file that happens to be linked on the page is a bad idea. Luckily, the practice seems to be restricted to adverts, but I really find a web-page that plays some background music very quickly becomes obtrusive and very annoying, to the extent that I prefer not to visit again. Some articles have an audio version. People who need audio, generally have access to screen reader software. Auto-play would be a vandalistic nightmare. Rich Farmbrough, 05:48, 19 January 2012 (UTC).

Expansion needed tag

I need a tag to put in the header of a page to state that the article needs more expansion. The article isn't "missing" info, it just needs additional writing (for example if the article is about a certain drug and there's an overview of it, we need to add adverse effects, side effects... etc)

So the tag {{missing information}} isn't exactly what I'm looking for --Abderrahman (talk) 18:56, 15 January 2012 (UTC)

Uploading a new version of an image

Say I've found an image already on Wikimedia and I want to upload an edited version of it under the same filename - as has been done three times in today's featured image, for example. How is this done? I definitely knew before but it's slipped my mind. Another option that I often use is to visit the non-English Wikipedia (es.wikipedia.org in this case), find the article there, then see if there's a transwiki link in the bottom of the toolbar to the left of the screen. can't find submission

I cannot find any where the article which I submitted on Jan 14 2012 --> Lincoln University School of Law. I know, at a minimum, that the references need to be inlined. I now realize that I should have put it on my watchlist.

Secondly, how can I find that page which contains several lists of article types: those rcently accepted, those recently rejected, those that need additional work, those that were miscategorized?

The article is at User:Slidhome/H.T. Lockard‎. Besides a watchlist, you also have a tab at the top of the page labeled "my contributions" which would allow you to find this easily. There are no rejected and accepted articles exactly. There are articles which are brand new which have been submitted in the main article namespace; there are articles from that list that have not yet been patrolled; there are articles which have been looked at and left unmarked; others that have been marked for deletion under differing process (speedy deletion, proposed deletion or taken to articles for deletion); there are articles that have been tagged for maintenance in various ways (including as uncategorized [I don't think there's a category for miscategorized]): and there are articles like the one you created which have been drafted a subpage and await review before being moved to the mainspace.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 22:46, 15 January 2012 (UTC)
