editPhoto Request Template
editThe template reqphoto|in=Arizona adds the article to the category Wikipedia requested photographs in Arizona. It also creates a text box that displays Wikipedians in Arizona may be able to help!
I have recently changed most occurrences of this to reqphoto|in=Specific County, Arizona. A text box with this doesn't display the Wikipedians in Arizona... line. I don't know where this line comes from, or who can modify whatever template causes this, if it is possible to match on just part of in= (and of course in a general way for other states). MB 00:22, 10 August 2016 (UTC)
- Ok, the reqphoto template is rather complicated, but, I've figured it out. The text box
Wikipedians in Foo may be able to help!
comes from this line of code:{{#ifexist:Category:Wikipedians in {{{in}}}|'''[[:Category:Wikipedians in {{{in}}}|Wikipedians in {{{in}}}]]''' may be able to help!}}
In other words, it searches for a category "Wikipedians in Foo" and if it is there, it displays the text. However, I take it that the categories are not very area specific (ie, there is no category for each county). -- The Voidwalker Discuss 00:33, 10 August 2016 (UTC)- I was hoping there would be a way for it to display "Wikipedians in Arizona" by doing a partial match (with only the text after the comma). Is there a place to request this functionality be added? MB 02:50, 10 August 2016 (UTC)
- @MB: I believe I've coded the extra logic at Template:Photo requested/sandbox, with test cases at Template:Photo requested/testcases. I'll place an edit request on the template talk page so that an admin or another template editor can check what I've done and copy it to the live template. -- John of Reading (talk) 12:14, 10 August 2016 (UTC)
- Looks good to me, I just didn't know we had {{last word}}. Very useful to know. -- The Voidwalker Discuss 15:48, 10 August 2016 (UTC)

Would this work?
edit(Sorry for the bad title, I have no idea how to describe my question in it)
I have a question about redirecting and subpages. Lets say that I redirected User:MorbidEntree/ubx to User:MorbidEntree/userboxes. Would the subpages of User:MorbidEntree/userboxes be linked to if I used User:MorbidEntree/ubx? Example: Linking User:MorbidEntree/ubx/example when User:MorbidEntree/ubx redirects to User:MorbidEntree/userboxes. -- MorbidEntree - (Talk to me! (っ◕‿◕)っ♥)(please reply using {{ping}}) 05:41, 10 August 2016 (UTC)
- @MorbidEntree: That wouldn't work. Links go to the page written in the link. If the page doesn't exist then it becomes a red link. PrimeHunter (talk) 11:33, 10 August 2016 (UTC)
- @PrimeHunter: So in order for that to work, I'd have to make a redirect at User:MorbidEntree/ubx/example that goes to User:MorbidEntree/userboxes/example? -- MorbidEntree - (Talk to me! (っ◕‿◕)っ♥)(please reply using {{ping}}) 11:41, 10 August 2016 (UTC)
- @MorbidEntree: Yes. If there was a page at User:MorbidEntree/ubx/example and it was moved to User:MorbidEntree/userboxes/example then a redirect would automatically be made. Administrators have an option to move all subpages when they move a page, but it only works for subpages which exist at the time of the move. PrimeHunter (talk) 11:48, 10 August 2016 (UTC)

want to start a article abour a medical association ISVIR
editHi Friend
This is Dr Balaji , i want to create a profile of our organisation ISVIR (INDIAN SOCIETY OF VASCULAR AND INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGY).The Indian Society of Vascular & Interventional Radiology (ISVIR) has been floated to provide a platform for exchange of information regarding catheter-based radiological procedures. ISVIR was formed in Trivandrum on November 9, 1997. The objectives of the society include a planned growth of CVIR in India, providing a forum for exchange of views and information, formulating guidelines for performing and documenting interventional radiological procedures, streamlining the availability of devices in different regions, creating opportunities for certified training programs in CVIR, evolving guidelines for medico-legal aspects of the practice, creating public awareness with respect to interventional radiology, and helping the fledgling subspeciality with turf battles.
PLEASE HELP ME HOW TO DO IT. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Drbalaji777 (talk • contribs) 06:54, 10 August 2016 (UTC)
A Wizard is available to walk you through these steps. See the Article Wizard.
Thank you.
- Before creating an article, please search Wikipedia first to make sure that an article does not already exist on the subject. Please also review a few of our relevant policies and guidelines with which all articles should comply. As Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, articles must not contain original research, must be written from a neutral point of view, should cite reliable sources which verify their content and must not contain unsourced, negative content about living people.
- Articles must also demonstrate the notability of the subject. Please see our subject specific guidelines for people, bands and musicians, companies and organizations and web content and note that if you are closely associated with the subject, our conflict of interest guideline strongly recommends against you creating the article.
- If you still think an article is appropriate, see Wikipedia:Your first article. You might also look at Wikipedia:How to write a great article for guidance, and please consider taking a tour through the Wikipedia:Tutorial so that you know how to properly format the article before creation. An Article Wizard is also available to walk you through creating an article. TigraanClick here to contact me 08:26, 10 August 2016 (UTC)
- Drbalaji777, it might help to realise that Wikipedia does not contain profiles. Not one. What it contains is articles, based almost entirely on what people with no connection to the subject have published about it. --ColinFine (talk) 12:33, 10 August 2016 (UTC)
Referencing errors on Frederick Woodward Branson
editReference help requested. Hi
I get an error message on a page i have edited but can't work why, please help.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frederick_Woodward_Branson
References Cite error: The named reference Jones was invoked but never defined (see the help page). Thanks, Paulboll (talk) 07:57, 10 August 2016 (UTC)
- The problem arises from this edit, where you added
<ref name=Jones/>
but without having defined the reference named "Jones". In the error message the words "help page" are in blue to indicate that they are a wikilink, in this case to Help:Cite errors/Cite error references no text. --David Biddulph (talk) 08:46, 10 August 2016 (UTC)
Gadgets function erratically
editIs it possible for any admin to look into my preferences and see why Twinke, ProveIt and various other of my gadgets are now functioning erratically, despite being enabled? ProveIt, in particular, now displays <Proveit-edit-tab> and <Proveit-add-tab> whenever opened. Kailash29792 (talk) 08:39, 10 August 2016 (UTC)

Any way to mass purge articles?
editI recently made a big edit to the Dehradun template and now the articles that it is transcluded onto need to be purged so the change is shown on them (the pages are rarely edited). Is there any way for me to purge the cache of all those pages en mass? Or do I have to go to each one and purge them manually? -- MorbidEntree - (Talk to me! (っ◕‿◕)っ♥)(please reply using {{ping}}) 12:50, 10 August 2016 (UTC)
- @MorbidEntree: Just wait for the job queue to update the articles automatically. If you didn't fix a big problem like gross vandalism then there is no rush. PrimeHunter (talk) 13:00, 10 August 2016 (UTC)
correction to article on Sue Bird
editIn the Wikipedia article on sue bird it states that her father is an Italian born Jew. This is factually incorrect. Her father, Herschel Bird, was born in Brooklyn, New York. In addition, the family original Russian name was Burda not Boorda as stated in the article. This information also needs to be corrected. How do I accomplish this? I am a family member and am well acquainted with the correct information. Thank you for your assistance. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Winchester10 (talk • contribs) 13:53, 10 August 2016 (UTC)

removing an account
editHow do I delete an account?Sross510 (talk) 15:14, 10 August 2016 (UTC)
- You don't. You may be able to vanish your account, but that's not guaranteed. Ian.thomson (talk) 15:17, 10 August 2016 (UTC)
- (edit conflict) It is not possible to delete user accounts, as all contributions must be assigned to some identifier; either a username or an IP address.
- All Wikipedia editors have the right to leave Wikipedia for good (ie, permanently). The usual way to leave the Wikipedia project is simply to stop editing. Your contributions remain in Wikipedia. If you wish to resume editing at a later date, you can simply start again by logging into the same account. Old accounts that have any significant edits are almost never deleted or recycled to new users.
- If you decide to make a fresh start and do not wish to be connected to a previous account, you can simply discontinue the old account(s) and create a new one that becomes the only account you use. Discontinuing the old account means it will not be used again; it should note on its user page that it is inactive— for example, with the {{retired}} tag —to prevent the switch being seen as an attempt to sock puppet.
- Editors seeking privacy per their right to vanish can have their accounts renamed and their user pages and (in some cases) user talk pages deleted. Pppery (talk) 15:18, 10 August 2016 (UTC)
Transclusion time sensitivity
editHi if some article content is transcluded using a template then whenever the revision history is viewed, the transcluded content always shows the current content of the template, rather than the content when the revision took place. Are there any rules as what type of content should/should not be transcluded like this in templates? CalzGuy (talk) 15:16, 10 August 2016 (UTC)
Underwood International College
editHello,
User Eciffociu (uicofficE -> UIC Office) has copy pasted long sections of copyright content into the article "Underwood International College" without quotation marks.
Also, the part "Controversy" has been vandalized by for example making untagged changes. The wordings have been changed into more general such as from "UIC" to "Korea" and therefore changed the information to be unrelated to the article.
Kailliak (talk) 15:46, 10 August 2016 (UTC)
Addition: User Eciffociu's (UIC Office) username implies that the user has a Conflict of Interest (COI) and therefore should be restricted from modifying the page. Kailliak (talk) 18:08, 10 August 2016 (UTC)
- Kailliak It appears that Underwood International College is going to have the copyvios permanently deleted from the article history, and I've reported the user for username violation. Joseph2302 18:27, 10 August 2016 (UTC)
Page created with last name lowercase
editHi, my colleagues and I created a Wikipedia page for our client, Ralph Echemendia. We now have noticed his Display Title has his last name lowercase. Is there any way to get this issue resolved and have his last name edited to display "Echemendia"? Thank you!
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ralph_echemendia — Preceding unsigned comment added by Juliana.gu (talk • contribs) 16:44, 10 August 2016 (UTC)
- Your problem has already been fixed by GB fan. However, you should not be creating articles about your clients, as you would have a conflict of interest Pppery (talk) 16:47, 10 August 2016 (UTC)
- Does read rather like a CV. Would be inclined to add the template {{Like resume|date=August 2016}}, Wikipedia:Wikipedia is not the place to post your résumé and put it up for deletion, despite LAT giving him his 15 minutes of fame. Apart from that, he seems non notable. Paid Editing issues plaguing us again! And they ask 'us' to solve their editing short-comings out for free. Linkin is the place for his PR people to post this sort of self promotional material but not here.--Aspro (talk) 15:59, 11 August 2016 (UTC)
Chhinnamasta: using quotes in reference (efn) causing error
editAfter using quotes in reference causing error in {{efn}} in {{notes}} template in the article. Please help.--Redtigerxyz Talk 17:00, 10 August 2016 (UTC)
- @Redtigerxyz: This is the phab:T22707 software limitation again. Apparently, if you try to use
<ref>...</ref>
tags inside {{efn}} definitions inside a {{notes}} block, then (1) you can only use one pair of<ref>...</ref>
tags, and (2) the note containing that reference must be placed first in the {{notes}}. The software is very fragile in this area, making it too easy to break an article. -- John of Reading (talk) 17:16, 10 August 2016 (UTC)

Entry for Leon Ware , Edgar winner
editRE: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Edgar_Allan_Poe_Award_for_Best_Juvenile_winners The LINK of the children's book writer, Leon Ware, is INCORRECT, going to a songwriter of the same name in the wiki entry: The writer of the Edgar award winning children's book is my late uncle, a different LEON WARE'...he is NOT the songwriter, so do not link the Leon Ware children's fiction writing of Edgar fame to the songwriter, as is currently linked.
Thanks you.

Page Deleted
editIn June I created a Wikipedia entry for Hedges Middle School. It was immediately marked for speedy deletion. I don't understand why as it was deleted as it was virtually a mirror copy of the one created for my old school (Ness Middle School). I am not sure what I need to change or how to do it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Riddyville (talk • contribs) 19:34, 10 August 2016 (UTC)
- I'm not sure it is possible, unless there is something that makes that Middle School particularly Notable within the area and beyond. Middle Schools tend not be considered WP:Notable enough and I don't think that the Ness Middle School or for that matter the Ecole Golden Gate would particularly pass Notability either. There are no references or for that matter links outside the school system itself.Naraht (talk) 19:45, 10 August 2016 (UTC)
- Also to note that other stuff exists is not normally a useful argument on Wikipedia. There are over 5 million articles, and at least some of them would be deleted if they were created today — they slipped under the radar when they were first published. — crh 23 (Talk) 19:52, 10 August 2016 (UTC)
- It was deleted under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion as promotional. It also repeatedly referred to the school as 'Ness'. The article title has been blocked from creation (would require an admin to remove the creation block) but if you go through the Article For Creation procedure that won't be a problem since it will be created in the drafts workspace and you can edit it until it is ready to go live. (Article for Creation procedure is described in the welcome message on your talk page.) RJFJR (talk) 16:50, 11 August 2016 (UTC)
