editEditing the Page about the Norfolk Island Supreme Court
editHello,
I am writing to whomever ultimately reviews the editing for Wikipedia.
I am a Deputy Registrar of the Supreme Court of Norfolk Island.
On 11 December 2018, Justice Steven David RARES (of the Federal Court of Australia) was appointed as the third judge of Supreme Court of Norfolk Island. Justice Rares filled the vacancy left by Justice GILMOUR when he retired from the Federal Court on 23 March 2018.
Justice Rares has asked that the table on this Wikipedia page be updated to include him as the third Judge of the Supreme Court of Norfolk Island. I can provide you with a copy of Justice Rares formal appointment if you require this for verification.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any enquiries.
Regards,
Chuan Ng Judicial Registrar & Deputy Sheriff Federal Court of Australia NSW District Registry Queens Square Sydney NSW 2000 Deputy Registrar & Acting Sheriff Supreme Court of Norfolk Island Registrar Federal Circuit Court of Australia — Preceding unsigned comment added by Teng Chuan Ng (talk • contribs) 23:27, 15 January 2020 (UTC)
- Hello, Teng Chuan Ng. In order to place Mr. Rares in that article, we need a link to a publicly published news item or website (not social media or blogs) that we can cite as support. We need confirmation of the date, in particular. Please provide a link here so the chart may be updated.--Quisqualis (talk) 23:50, 15 January 2020 (UTC)
- This might work but it's a bit vague. [[1]] TimTempleton (talk) (cont) 02:36, 17 January 2020 (UTC)
Will edit as I found this page https://www.infrastructure.gov.au/department/ips/senate_order_feb_2019.aspx
Supreme Court of Norfolk Island, Judge, The Hon Justice Steven Rares, 6/12/2018 – 14/11/2023
Lent (talk) 06:03, 18 January 2020 (UTC)
Done! Tougher than I expected. My first edit of a transclusion as Supreme Court of Norfolk Island trancludes the table portion of List of judges of the Supreme Court of Norfolk Island and that table that needed rowspan="16" changed to rowspan="17" to add the additional categorized row. Included additional citations too.Lent (talk) 07:27, 18 January 2020 (UTC)
Problem editing a page.
editCan someone please tell me why I am not able to edit this page https://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geoff_Grist Thank you
Icuraj (talk) 01:27, 16 January 2020 (UTC)
- Apparently on Simple Wikipedia (a separate project), the edit link is labeled "Change Source". Try that. RudolfRed (talk) 01:36, 16 January 2020 (UTC)
- If that doesn't work, this is the Help Desk for that project: [2] RudolfRed (talk) 01:37, 16 January 2020 (UTC)
- fixing ping @Icuraj: RudolfRed (talk) 01:38, 16 January 2020 (UTC)
Thank you - I did try that and it didn't work. Do you know how I can move this page to the regular Wikipedia, not the Simple Wikipedia? Icuraj (talk) 01:41, 16 January 2020 (UTC)
- If your're Geoff Grist or someone with a significant personal or business relationship with him, you don't need to (and shouldn't). If Geoff Grist is notable, someone else will come along and write an article about him here, sooner or later.
- If you're not Geoff Grist or someone with a significant personal or business relationship with him, then:
- Create the page "Geoff Grist" here (in the regular English Wikipedia
- Copy and paste whatever you want into to this new article, from the Simple Wikipedia article. Don't save it yet.
- Go back to the Simple English article, and click on "Permanent Link" (it's at the left, down a little). This will change the URL in the URL box of your browser.
- Copy that URL.
- Go back to the article you are creating here in the regular English Wikipedia.
- In the Edit Summary field, type "Creating page by copy from" and then paste in that permanent-link URL you copied from the Simple English Wikipedia (It will read something like "Creating page by copy from https://simple.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Geoff_Grist&oldid=6778641
- Click the Publish Page button.
- If you're not Geoff Grist or someone with a significant personal or business relationship with him, then:
- The purpose here is to point to the originating page, so that the original writers can be credited for copyright purposes.
- I don't know if Geoff Grist is notable enough to have an article. Probably not. So the article'll just get deleted in that case. Herostratus (talk) 02:47, 16 January 2020 (UTC)
- @Icuraj: As Herostratus said it will probably be deleted. None of the references are sufficient to establish notability. Please carefully read WP:NPERSON, and then if you think I'm wrong, please make an explicit case that the subject is notable on the article's talk page, describing how at least two of the sources or new sources you find each meet all five of the requirements. That may be enough to convince interested editors to not nominate you article for deletion. We delete about 200 articles per day. -Arch dude (talk) 03:27, 16 January 2020 (UTC)
Thank you so much. Cheers. Icuraj (talk) 03:58, 16 January 2020 (UTC) Sorry, another question. How do I permanently delete this from the Simple Wikipedia? Icuraj (talk) 04:39, 16 January 2020 (UTC)
- @Icuraj: I know this sounds strange, but the simple Wikipedia is a separate project with separate policies and administration, so you will have to ask on their help desk. -Arch dude (talk) 05:14, 16 January 2020 (UTC)
Okay, thanks again for your help. Cheers Icuraj (talk) 05:16, 16 January 2020 (UTC)
- @Icuraj: You may be able to find an alternate home for this article. I'm not familiar these but take a look at WP:OUT. -Arch dude (talk) 05:19, 16 January 2020 (UTC)
Thank you! You've been very helpful - much appreciated. Icuraj (talk) 05:21, 16 January 2020 (UTC)
Initial description for 'Kangaroo Island' page needs to be re-written
edithttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kangaroo_Island
The first description for this (as well as the quick-view description) isn't as it should be. I thought I could re-write it but I think it'd be better for someone more qualified to do so. Just wanted to let you know! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2404:4408:404D:FB00:FC7C:A8E1:31A9:82A7 (talk) 06:22, 16 January 2020 (UTC)
- I've reverted the vandalism to Kangaroo Island. If it was committed by you, stop doing such things or you'll end up being blocked. Deor (talk) 06:32, 16 January 2020 (UTC)
Recent edit was marked as pending changes? (As autoconfirmed user)
editI recently made edits to the page Reptile and for some reason the last edit was made pending changes. While this isn't much of an issue, I thought it was strange, as I am above the registration and edit count threshold. Is there some threshold of multiple edits to a single article that marks an autoconfirmed user's edits as pending changes? Rauisuchian (talk) 07:34, 16 January 2020 (UTC)

Footnote linked to ad, not reference
editCan you please advise how to remove the following footnote which is linked to an ad, not an actual reference?
Thanks! Dianna — Preceding unsigned comment added by 144.94.0.4 (talk) 10:01, 16 January 2020 (UTC)
- Hello Dianna, I have removed it and added a 'citation needed' template; for future reference you just open the source and delete the ref as a whole just as you would any other text. Leave an explanatory edit summary and tag for a ref (which may not always be necessary). Eagleash (talk) 10:19, 16 January 2020 (UTC)
Can watermarks be on images that i make?
editi'm generally curious if i can have watermarks on my pictures that i can make and upload onto this site when editing. <- [🔥] Dengmothy (talk) 14:57, 16 January 2020 (UTC)
- @Dengmothy: WP:WATERMARK is ambiguous. It says no watermarks that would hamper free use. This may be interpreted to mean that you may watermark, but the watermark cannot assert or imply any restrictive license. I think you should ask that question on that policy's talk page. But is there some reason to use a watermark instead of metadata? -Arch dude (talk) 17:45, 16 January 2020 (UTC)
Duncraig Castle
editI would very much appreciate it if you could amend the address you have listed on wikipedia. It is not Duncraig Square, Duncraig Castle. The correct address is:
Duncraig Castle Plockton Ross-shire IV52 8TZ
Many thanks Suzanne Hazeldine [Owner] — Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.35.241.174 (talk) 17:11, 16 January 2020 (UTC)
- There is no address listed in Duncraig_Castle. Where are you seeing the problem? RudolfRed (talk) 18:40, 16 January 2020 (UTC)
- IP editor, what you are seeing is a "mashup" created by Google, based on results of a Google search for "Duncraig Castle". Google calls it a Knowledge Graph, The text is straight from Wikipedia, but the rest is a compendium from other sources. Highland Council may have 1 Duncraig Square as your mailing address, for instance. You can notify Google about this problem: here. Normally, there is a feedback link at the very bottom of the box, but the one I saw wasn't working.--Quisqualis (talk) 21:00, 16 January 2020 (UTC)
Does focusing almost exclusively on fighting spam and out-of-article-space vandalism count as a WP:SPA? --MoonyTheDwarf (Braden N.) (talk) 17:43, 16 January 2020 (UTC)
- I would consider it a species of wikignoming, a benevolent obsessive trait. --Orange Mike | Talk 19:19, 16 January 2020 (UTC)
- SPA is generally a derogatory term. It's not the same thing as having a particular area of interest, even a seemingly obsessively specific one so long as it's productive. GMGtalk 19:28, 16 January 2020 (UTC)
- Moonythedwarf, I would say an SPA is usually trying to push a POV or make COI edits. They are generally WP:NOTHERE, unlike say a vandal fighter, who is looking to help the encyclopedia as a whole. CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n!⚓ 00:19, 17 January 2020 (UTC)
Super Bowl Handover Ceremony
editAfter The Super Bowl LIV Game is Over The Next Day Which Is Feb 3 that's the day of the Super Bowl Handover Ceremony. The Miami Super Bowl Host Committee will then Hand it over to The Tampa Super Bowl Host Committee if that is true. 68.103.78.155 (talk) 21:03, 16 January 2020 (UTC)
- Is this about an article? If so, please discuss on that article's talk page. If not, what are you asking? RudolfRed (talk) 21:30, 16 January 2020 (UTC)
I Was looking foward to NBC carrying Super Bowl LV But that has been traded to CBS And That makes me mad and guess what i will not watch Super Bowl LV on CBS. Because the game was traded i will now wait until Super Bowl LVI. 68.103.78.155 (talk) 03:22, 18 January 2020 (UTC)
Where to issue a query on why a user was blocked?
editI am poking into why User:Combo_Panda was blocked, and am unsure where to ask/have the block reviewed. --MoonyTheDwarf (Braden N.) (talk) 21:23, 16 January 2020 (UTC)
- @Moonythedwarf: From the user's talk page, the block was issued by User:Bbb23. You can ask on that admin's talk page, but I'm not sure if they will discuss another user's block with you. RudolfRed (talk) 21:28, 16 January 2020 (UTC)
- @Moonythedwarf: I think Yunshui's response to their second unblock request, on which you also commented, is spot-on. In the end, WP:CIR is not just about technical and English skills – editors have to be able to work collegially with other serious contributors. This user's actions have clearly demonstrated a problem in that area that can only be fixed by time and life experience, I'm afraid. —[AlanM1(talk)]— 10:58, 17 January 2020 (UTC)
- AlanM1, Yep, I noticed that very quickly after making this, during my own personal review. MoonyTheDwarf (Braden N.) (talk) 14:57, 17 January 2020 (UTC)

Sichuan Yi Babel Templates
editCurrently the only language template that exists for the Yi language is native speaker. I am not a native but would still like this babel categorisation. I also have no idea how to make new babel categories. I can provide translations for all texts if required. Can someone help please? Stan traynor (talk) 22:33, 16 January 2020 (UTC)
- @Stan traynor: It seems to be that you need to create the {{User iii-1}}, {{User iii-2}}, {{User iii-3}}, {{User iii-4}}, and {{User iii-5}} templates. If you click on one of these redlinks, it will take you to a new editing page to create the new template. You should copy the source from {{User iii}} (choose edit source, select all, copy, paste into the new template, make sure not to save the original one from which you copied). Take a look at the diff between {{User zh}} and {{User zh-1}} or {{User es}} and {{User es-1}} to get an idea of what changes to make. Post back here if this isn't clear or you get stuck, and make sure to ping me with {{Re|AlanM1}}. —[AlanM1(talk)]— 19:13, 17 January 2020 (UTC)

- Have you tried turning your device off and on again? We can't offer any more assistance than that since this sounds like a problem with your device rather than a problem with Wikipedia. – Thjarkur (talk) 00:49, 17 January 2020 (UTC)
